Vogue Upgrading Potential -- Video Drivers, WinMo 6.5 and the Future - Touch CDMA Windows Mobile ROM Development

Hi all,
I wanted to start this thread to answer some community questions regarding the Vogue. Thanks to very gifted individuals, new versions of Windows Mobile have been ported to very old handsets--including replacing 2002 on some old, old models with 6.1. Quite an impressive, and admirable, feat.
The release of 6.5 has everyone excited with the same anticipation that it will eventually be available for all pre-existing models as well. I'm hoping that others with more experience and knowledge in the field can actually comment on their thoughts and opinions.
Specifically, I've read some comments regarding available memory and video acceleration drivers which are a concern in certain contexts. Is the Vogue plagued by such concerns? Are there updated drivers for this handset?
Just looking for input from those with both the knowledge and the willingness to share it for everyone else to read. I know these questions are bouncing through every Vogue owner's mind, so your thoughts are appreciated.
If others have additional/related questions, please feel free to add them to this thread. Perhaps we can answer maybe questions all at once.
Thanks for your time.

I've stated this before, but I will say it again. Hardware video acceleration is not possible on the vogue, unless htc releases an updated display driver (DDI.dll). The Kaiser or Polaris drivers cannot be ported either, due to our ddi missing required functions.

So whats the bottom line here for all the people here who do not understand the tech Jargon.
1. Will windows mobile 6.5 eventually be able to be ported or not?
2. Is the only hope for any types of OS upgrades to our phones going to be to port to Android?

Wasn't there some hope that the release of the Verizon Touch Diamond would solve this problem since its hardware is more similar to the Vogue?

It's not. There will never be a driver for the Touch/Vogue. Ever.
WM 6.5 should work, but I'm not sure about the speed. We will just have to see.

I will port WM 6.5 once it is released officially. I'm not even going to bother with the ****ty half-assed partial betas in chinese.

NFSFAN,
Again, many thanks from the community for your work on ROMs--it's extremely appreciated, as is your insight. I believe the concern regarding Windows Mobile 6.5 running on MSM7200/7500 hardware has been laid to rest; 6.5 has been demonstrated running on various platforms (e.g. Touch), so I'm confident you'll be porting solid ROMs when the day comes.
Where I am left a little blank is in regard to 3D Acceleration. I understand that there is a lack of 3D Acceleration in the 7200/7500 series because there is no functional ATi Imageon driver. How is this negatively affecting the Touch, other than restricting TouchFlo 3D capability? Is it also affecting scroll speed and smoothness, for example?
This is particularly confusing because HTC released an 'update', which for most of us was the first native 6.1 ROM, which was supposed to enhance graphical and media acceleration. Was this akin to a codec that works better with their chipset, and not really true acceleration at all?

I think I'm just going to have to sit tight and wait for the official release and for NFSFAN to build us yet another wonderful rom.

WM6.1 official Microsoft release?

Is the WM6.1 floating around on the forums derived from official MS release? I searched the various posts as well as on google and couldn't find anything on that.
The reason why I ask this is because looking at the screenshots scattered around the forum I visually atleast, don't see any difference/improvement from our wm6.0
I own a Tilt and I recollect a couple of months back there was a lot of buzz around MS releasing some good enhancements and there was even a much different GUI that was shown in their smartphone platform on MS' own website to which people guessed that it may be coming in wm6.1!!?
Weren't there an official statement on MS WM site of the Tilt and a few select other phones getting the next version of W mobility center syncing with PC plus other enhancements to which all assumed that it'd be WM6.1 ???!!
Can someone shed some light here please! Thanks.
As to whether or not it is an official release, I haven't a clue. But, as to differences, I have noticed several on my HTC Mogul (HTC xv6800, Titan, whatever you call it). Most notably is speed: the device is *noticably* faster running the same problems, and I have run 6 or 7 different ROMs with WM 6 to compare against... it is by far the fastest. Also, on the titan voice command w/ bluetooth headset hasn't ever completely worked, as the verification never worked. All bluetooth functions on my phone seem to be working significantly better.
Other than that, there are a few changes... seems like it's automatically closing certain programs when they aren't used (notably PIE and Messaging) about which I have mixed feelings, but it does tend to make for better memory management...
so there are some improvements. I'm still identifying all of them, since I just flashed the new OS night before last, but there are some definite changes.
I doubt this is the actual WM 6.1 release promissed by Microsoft.
The official 6.1 roms would have some visual "improvements" because of the iPhone. Apple has taken the lead marketshare from Microsoft.
... i think (i might as well be wrong)
the pictures of the fancy shake and such wm version is not 6.1 it's 7 which will not be out untill 2009

i also read somewhere that visually, there is a big difference between the ppc and the smartphone versions of 6.1
yep windows mobile 7 is the one with the whole new gui and finger friendliness on it, but it wouldn't suprise me if they included a few bits in 6.1 just to keep i phone at bay.
Hope its not the official one...

I certainly hope that this isn't the official MS release as even though like you guys (taxilian) are saying that there is significant speed improvement and tweaks here and there, I'd much rather take some GUI improvements that will allow for more and more functionality with just fingers... I mean a stylus to go tap tap while walking in a park... come on dude!!

Are we up for the WM7??

hey guys..
this is just a precautionary question for guys who are planning to buy an artemis.
is this device really ready to handle WM7 ?
is there any person out there ready to prove that?
if its yes... its grt news and every one here wud love to know how wud that be possible.
because me using this device with the least programs installed and i am not satisfied with the performance.
its just not fast enough..
after checking out all the links based on the WM 7 shows amazing graphics and amazing applications..
so whats the ultimate answer?
people who have an artemis have to sell there device?
if yes.. which is the best one to opt for?
i know its lot of questions to be answered.. but i am very sure its gonna answer 100s of people who are planning to enter the PDA world
i'm relatively sure that all or most of the devices running OMAP 800 (i think thats the processor) will be unable to use wm7. besides, all the truly fun stuff (accelerometer) wouldn't work
WM7 won't run natively on any current phone. I'm pretty sure that some hacked versions will appear, for example, cooked wm6.1 ROMS with extra WM7 applications added. But too much of the stuff announced for WM7 relies on specific hardware and the corresponding drivers, so a full version is extremely unlikely, not only for the Artemis, also for more advanced productrs such as the Kaiser.

Tilt 2 and WM 7 ?

Hello everyone. Can I have some expert opinion please? Do we think that the tilt 2 which was just released last Oct. and I just got mine last week, will be able to support windows mobile 7? Do we think that AT&T will upgrade the OS when it comes out? Being and owner of win mo phones since the 8125 first came out, I know how slow AT&T is to release updated OS's.
This is by no means an "expert" opinion. But the general consensus nowadays is that only the HD2 is confirmed to support WinMo7 and our TP2 will not.
But, consider this:
-WinMo 6.5 was not meant to be on the Touch Diamond.
-WinMo devices were not meant to run Android.
-Sense 2.5 was not meant to come to our TP2.
Yet all the above are happening thanks to the great minds of XDA developers...
I'm not an expert at all...
But it seems like it's one thing for W7 to be somehow cooked to run on the TP2, but another thing for it to run well, without excessive lag (for example).

This is a great point. Whenever someone dares to mention WinMo7 on the TP2, you get flamed and the spec impossibilities yelled at your face. But exactly my point about what people said "couldn't" be done!
It definitely won't be easy, but as long as the OS is cook-able, somebody will take on the task.
What worries me is though, WM7 may not be WM at all! Several reports told something about Zune OS being used instead, and being incompatible with any of the old applications. I hope not

The Zune OS is based off of the Windows CE kernel, which is also the base for Windows Mobile, so there wouldn't be complete incompatibility as some of the false rumors lead you to believe. There are a lot of blatantly false rumors floating around on even the most respected WM sites, so take every unconfirmed rumor you read about WM 7 with a grain of salt.
Though I would love Windows Mobile 7 on the Touch Pro2, I have to say that it's pretty unlikely it'll happen. First, to everyone who gives the example of WM6 running on WM5 devices and WM6.5 running on WM 6.x/5.x devices, the reason this is easy is because all these operating systems (WM5-WM6) run the same Windows CE 5.2 kernel. It's a lot easier to backport an OS when it uses the same kernel. Windows Mobile 7 is going to be based off Windows CE 6 or 7, and it'll likely take a hell of a lot of low-level work to get WM7 on the Pro2.
If you don't believe me, look in this thread at PPCGeeks, where some of the most technical people discuss this issue in more detail. It seems to me that we'll need a new everything, from the SPL and bootloader to new hardware drivers (since it's extremely unlikely that WM7 will support the Qualcomm MSM series considering the rumored WM 6.5.x and WM 7 coexistance scheme, where only 6.5 supports lower end devices and hardware like the MSM series).
I'm not saying I don't want WM 7 on the Rhodium, since I really do, but I am trying to be realistic here, so I'm gonna say it's likely no to WM 7 on the Pro2.
one guy from htc russia announced WM7 minimal requirements: 8Gb onboard, CPU1GHz,FM, 5Mpx,compass,G-sensor,3,6",WVGA.
but of course its not true
My Universal (2005) came with wm5!
Then upgraded to wm6, then to wm6.1 and I got it working with wm6.5
I´m sure the great chefs here will manage something so we can have wm7 for sure!

Windows phone 7 - FAQ (please read first)

I have created a small FAQ to address some common WP7 related questions, a little attempt to try to stop people from asking same questions over and over again. Maybe the moderators can put it as sticky?
Q: Can I run Windows phone 7 on my HD2?
A: No you can't! Microsoft have told multiple times that there won't be an upgrade for HD2.
Q: I have seen screenshots of HD2 running WP7, is it possible to run WP7 on my HD2?
A: This might have been a fake picture. And even if it's real there will be no ugprade coming from Microsoft.
Q: But on my HD2 box it's written I'll receive free upgrade to WP7!
A: Microsoft are writing drivers for WP7 devices so it depends on Microsoft and not on HDC. Microsoft said the HD2 won't run it!
Q: But the HD2 meets the minimum hardware requirements, can I run WP7 on it?
A: It's decided by Microsoft, it will NOT run!
Q: Recently a ROM of WP7 was leaked can you give me step by step instructions to put it on my phone?
A: Nothing was leaked. The only thing that happened is that someone extracted the emulator image from the new Windows phone SDK.
Q: So what? Can I run it on my phone now?
A: No!
Q: I downloaded the leaked ROM but I don't know how to run it!
A: There's no leaked ROM. Download the Windows phone SDK and run the emulator from your Visual Studio project.
Q: Now that we have the leaked ROM can I cook it on my Touch pro 2?
A: No!
Q: Can I simply put the leaked ROM in my kitchen with a little hacks here and there and run WP7?
A: There's no leaked ROM. And the emulator image is based on x86 CPU. Your device runs an ARM CPU.
Q: I seen the file structure is the same like in my kitchen. Give me step by step instructions to cook a WP7 ROM for my device!
A: No it's not possible!
Q: If we have a real WP7 device and extract the ROM can the great developers at XDA please out it on my HP IPAQ?
A: WP7 is based on a new kernel and you don't have WP7 drivers for your device. It won't be possible to run WP7 on any older device.
Q: But I have bought a brand new HD2 and they said WP7 upgrade is free!
A: If you don't have the WP7 drivers for HD2 then it's not possible at all!
Q: But the hackers at XDA can still do it?
A: Probably not!
Q: That sucks! I'll switch to Android.
A: Have a nice day, goodbye!

LOL @ half the FAQ being HD2 owners
Well it can't be taken seriously enough to be a sticky if it's an FAQ for idiots. Half the questions about an HD2 and the other half about a leaked ROM? It's humorous, but non-thick-headed people might have real actual questions about 7.
The picture was fake, not probably fake.. and that's not even necessary to say since the answer to the first question was NO.
Funny post though
Q: Can I run Windows phone 7 on my HD2?
There is no real information about upgrading the HTC HD2 at the moment. Rumors and the whole information over 60% - 80% is not real about WM7 on HTCH D2. The HTC can not disappoint so many customers because they will lose them as a result to lose million of money. The HTC will take the case very seriously. And from the other hand HTC and Microsoft have very good dealings they can't "destroy" this dealing for a WM Upgrade! Think about it.......
Q: I have seen screenshots of HD2 running WP7, is it possible to run WP7 on my HD2?
At the moment no.Maybe fake or early Beta Versions for HTC Corporations Beta Testers-Programmers......One God knows!
Q: But the HD2 meets the minimum hardware requirements, can I run WP7 on it?
The HTC HD2 hasn't any minimum hardware requirements the ONLY minimum hardware is graphic processor nothings else! (except the Microsoft decisions for 3 buttons etc..... ) The WM7 can't switch to no Graphics Mode from the settings (i just thought!) ??? We don't know!!!
Q: That sucks! I'll switch to Android.
Hey calm down!! You don't know if the information about upgrade will available for Nowadays HTC devices
Q: The above questions are really vague???
Yes with possibility up to 60%-70% the information are really vague.
Q: But on my HD2 box it's written I'll receive free upgrade to WP7!
Your answer is right at least 60%. If theres any disagreement between Microsoft and HTC. HTC would produce only Android phones no Wphones.
Q: But the hackers at XDA can still do it?
The problem always have a solution most of time. Maybe not hackers at XDA can't do it but another hackers can do it...... vague that!!

A better answer to that might be to point out that the HD2 doesn't meet the minimum hardware requirements.
It doesn't have a search button. Arguably it doesn't have a dedicated power button. It doesn't have a hardware camera button. It has only half a gigabyte of onboard flash, when the minimum amount needed is 8GB. It has an SD card reader which is banned on WP7S devices. There are also question-marks over whether it has the necessary "hardware scaler" (which apparently is distinct from the GPU) and, more seriously, whether its touch-screen is capable of registering the required four independent points of contact or only two.

Yes, it doesn't meet the minimum requirements, but people keep saying it does.
I'm not an owner of a HD2 device but even if I had one I wouldn't be so sissy about it. It's a WM 6.5 device and that's it. WP7 is a completely new chapter! It's meant to be a new OS and not only an update. And even if we already figured out what the kernel and OS structure is still somewhat similar from what we have now..... it doesn't change a thing!
Today I read the emulator is unlocked. Great! But in the next post I had to read the same nonsene again "Can I put it on my device now?"
GRRRRRRMMMMM!!!!
Why don't they just GET IT????
To be fair, another very frequently asked question is:
Q: lolz, why u wnt WP7S on HD2, it sux0rs, u r all idiots, no wun eva sed HD2 wud have WP7 n e way why don you all just sht up?!?!?! lolz
or words to that effect. The answer would be something like:
Some people feel that HTC implied that there would be a WP7 upgrade for the HD2, and that HTC has broken its promises. Most people, however, are more annoyed about the impact of the WP7 announcement on WM6.x.
When we bought our HD2's just a couple of months ago, no one could have guessed that WP7 would not be backwards-compatible with WM6.x - in other words that no WM6.x application would run on WP7. The effect of this is that, from the moment of the announcement, W6.x became a dead platform as far as commercial software development is concerned. Of course, hobbyist development will continue; but there is no longer any good reason for commercial software houses to produce new products or updates for WM6.x; instead they will jump straight to WP7S.
We are already seeing this with a number of major companies, for example Skype, Adobe (who have cancelled their FlashPlayer project for WM6.x) and even Microsoft (who have have recently announced a new version of Silverlight for the platform Symbian, but decided not to do so for Windows Mobile).
HTC must have known this would happen at the time the HD2 first went on sale, but conveniently neglected to mention it to anyone, which has made a lot of people angry. A free upgrade to WP7S might have gone some way towards compensating.

Very good all these, but Microsoft didn't ask HD2 owners if they want to run series 7 at them devices
Me and meny other owners we say NO, WE DIDN'T LIKE SERIES 7
We prefer our Leo like it is, with windows 6.5 or 6.5.3 and the HTC Sense which it is match more practical than the blue doors of series 7 and has better graphics.
We prefer to have copy paste, multi tasking, unlocked os, so as to put anything we want.
I had iPhone 3g and 3Gs before. I come back at WM because of these stupid restrictions, which they are only to make as to buy stupid apps from them stores.
If I must accept something like that, I prefer to original, I mean apple
MS the last years lost the most of the smartphone users. Only powers users continue with WM because of HTC no because Microsoft.
With series 7, they open the door for us also.
We are not at the them target plan, but they are not also at our plan.
The new users which they will come at the smartphones, they will have to choice between a new windows os and a famous iPhone os which after 3 years experience and millions sales will be better.
What you thing they will choice?
Microsoft made a big mistake. If they had an other way can win very easy all the disappointment iPhone and droid users, and after that the most of the new users which they will follow the new wave.
We will see after some months who is right.
Windows 7 --> EVO 4G
Forgive me for my ignorance on the issue. Based on the info posted here, I understand that one of the impediments to WP7-->HD2 is the lack of WP7 drivers for the HD2.
Then, is it safe to say that WP7-->EVO 4G will be in the same boat? Or will it be even worse off? Does it matter that the EVO 4G is an Android phone? Will that make it any harder to install WP7 on that device? Or would it present the exact same difficulties as installing WP7 on the HD2?

Developer needed: Custom WM 6.x ROM for HTC HD (will pay)

Hello,
I am posting a simple project request with a small budget in hopes that a Freelance Developer would be willing to take it on.
This project would be a good opportunity for some quick income.
My project is to build a custom ROM for my unlocked Windows Mobile 6.1 HTC Touch HD T8282 (Blackstone), for personal use.
The ROM will incorporate different aspects of the following WM HTC phones:
- HTC Touch Diamond P3700 (Rogers – Canada)
- HTC Touch Pro (Raphael) T7272
- HTC Touch HD (Blackstone) T8282 & T8285 (Telstra)
- HTC Touch Diamond 2 (Topaz) T5353
- HTC Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium) T7373
- HTC Touch HD 2 (Leo) T8585
I have done research on the XDA Developers website, and have the specifications I would like the ROM to include. Also, I have saved relevant “threads” which link to files and examples which I will upload to the project once accepted. I have also downloaded some of the key files (WM 6.1 cabs) and HD updates that I will upload as well once accepted. The majority of the files are already existing (somewhere) on the XDA Developer webiste.
I have not included updates of other HTC models (but can be found on the (HTC Worldwide site - support)
I have not included extracted oem cab files from the various HTC model stock roms.
I have not used the many other “developer” sites – the amount of information is over-whelming.
There is a YouTube link by XDA user starbase64 (German) - But I cannot post it - yet (I am a new user, 1st post) for a general idea of what I would like to accomplish:
As I do not have a programming background, I am not able to create the ROM myself, and that is why I must outsource my project. There may be additional components that are required, that I am not aware of, which I will defer to the more knowledgeable freelancer.
Currently, the shipped HTC Touch HD ROM does not support North American (Canada – Rogers) 3G speed (EDGE is max), whereas the Australian Telstra version (T8285) does support the same frequencies as North America. As all other specifications on both HD versions (’82 & ’85) are identical, I assume that the radio can be successfully switched, though I have not found a thread on the XDA Developer site showing so. This may not even be possible (therefore I defer to the more knowledgeable freelancer).
Also, as the HTC Touch HD T8282 is a Windows Mobile 6.1 phone, I would like to upgrade to WM 6.5.3 (or 6.5.5) while retaining the basic WM 6.1 GUI (not WM 6.5.x GUI), as I prefer the HTC TFlo3D shell GUI (again I defer to the more knowledgeable freelancer).
Finally, the “new” HTC Touch HD will require a compatible “HardSPL” (for flashing), which would the Freelancer’s responsibility to include in the project submission upon completion.
Communication for clarification/issues/concerns/modifications/etc... can be started once a willing freelancer has been accepted.

Why would this be a joke?
I would like a custom rom, and I can't do it myself.
Look up the post on Freelancer.com/ca...
I'm willing to "donate" (pay) $100 for the project towards the dev, or the website (if they prefer).
I just want a custom rom.
Here is a more my posting on the Freelancer.com / .ca website, if interested...
http://www.freelancer.ca/projects/Android-Symbian/Developer-needed-Custom-ROM-for.html
I am not a WinMo user, so cannot comment on whether the rest of your demands are available in other ROMs (though I suspect they are), but your phone does not 3G in North America as the radio hardware is different.
There are custom ROMs out there that will likely have everything else you require, and if you are willing to pay $100 for a custom ROM for an old phone, you might as well just look at buying a newer phone that does suit your requirements, then use a readily available custom ROM for that.

The reason why I would like a custom rom, is because I really like the HTC TFlo 3D, (and Sense)and have seen how it could be modified.
I am not really a heavy app user, however, I have seen apps being cooked into roms, which (please correct me if I am wrong), seem to increase performance as it's part of the rom.
I'm really not a fan of the newer Android phones, as some of them are a little "too flashy", and don't have WMLive, or WMOffice included which I rely on.
Over the last few months I have seen some of the amazing custom roms possible, however I have not found one I want personally.
That's why I'm asking an XDA developer with no success..
Regarding the Radio for 3G on the Blackstone T8282. According to the specs (found on the HTC site), nothing differs from the T8285 Telstra apart from the frequency capability. Since the "radio" is software, why would it not be just as inter-changeable as any other piece of software?
Your feedback is greatly appreciated, as is any one else's.
Of course, TouchFlo 3D already comes with the device, but anything else that is new (like from Sense) would have to be ported over.
A built-in app is merely just one that comes with it; there is no performance difference.
When you say too flashy, what do you mean?
The radio isn't just a piece of software, it is essentially the firmware that the radio equipment runs. However, we refer to the firmware as the "radio" because there are differences and optimisations for different networks, for example.
The problem is that the phone is so old, and you'd probably not end up with a great experience running all of this new software on it. The age also means that there won't be much support for it.
You really would have a better experience buying a new phone, I'm afraid; you can find better alternatives for software that you use, and any mobile platform out there now is far superior to WM; WM is very much an old OS that has been taken too far.

Hi again Mr.L,
What I mean by "too flashy" is that I find the newer HTC Android phones have the clock, plus the weather (in the clock), plus the weather animation on the homepage. Also, the clock is now the circular analog, when it was the "flip clock" that's become HTC's "signature". Plus the whole "pinkish" look isn't my thing.
I really like this (YouTube link below) rom created by XDA user starbase64, however when contacted, he informed me that he is focusing his efforts on 'droid dev.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jjCNIZcM5s
Mr.64 has manged to combine TFlo3D with Sense on an HD.
That's the kind of "look" I like.
The things XDA users (and sights like it) create is just AWESOME.
I searched this kitchen thread from him, but there are no images for me to see if it's the video rom (plus then link goes from XDA to rapidshare - in German)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=460822
Regarding performance: I have read threads where the post-er has created a new rom that has newer, and sometimes more "things" than the original oem, and their cooked rom is producing better ram usage, is faster and better battery performance. I figured that this is related to the app being built into the rom, rather than added / installed after.
Regarding radio: The radio is firmware..? How is it possible that people can upgrade their radio with newer oem radios? (some being from a different build of the same phone)
That is why I wonder if the T8282's radio can be substituted with the T8285 Telstra. If the phone is able to upgrade the radio, shouldn't it be able to support any version of the radio found in different builds (of the same phone)?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Blackstone/Radio_Flashing
**Though I noted that radio is dependent of the rom build.
Regarding new phone: Unfortunately, I disappointed that "Balmer" made WP7 generic and HTC can't add any (well, "Sense")
I was contemplating the iPhone (mainly for the apps, and fluidity), but the "home screen" sucks.
I still want something to look at.
More than likely I will BEND OVER and get a BB (Torch 2 9850/Storm 3), mainly cause everyone keeps asking for my "pin", but I've never been all impressed with BB in general.
RIM's problem isn't really them being behind Apple. It's more of them revealing (things in the works) too far in advance causing delays.
Apple just goes: BAM! Surprise! iPadX LTE!
You have to remember that with Android, there is a huge amount of customisability. The clock can be changed for a million other ones, etc. As for the pinkishness, that's just a background
The performance improvements will be down to the optimisations the dev makes, not anything else.
The radio is that you upgrade is firmware, which can be changed for improved performance. Radio firmware is also separate from the ROM, so you can change that to whatever you like. However, the hardware is still limited to whatever it is designed to support, it is different hardware.
To be honest, if you like Sense so much, an Android phone sounds perfect for you. Sense on Android is very similar to how it was on the WM devices, like the HD2. Do take a look!

Hi Mr.L,
Thanks for your feedback, it's much appreciated.
While I do understand 'Droid's customability (real word?), I'm really not to big on 'Droid. I really don't like the "version segmentation" problems they face (though, I've "heard" Google is becoming more strict with Honeycomb). Maybe in the future I would get an Android device, if one catches my eye.
You being in the UK is sweet for receiving the newest phones, and more selection.
There's not a big selection in North America, Canada even less than the US.
Regarding the radio firmware: How do you, (or anyone) know that the T8282, is different hardware than the T8285?
I cannot find a spec sheet showing any difference.
Regarding the rom request: Another reason why I made the request is since my device (HD) is considered "legacy", I thought it would be easier to cook, since many chefs already made dishes.
Even if i cannot get the 3G radio, I could still have something like what Mr.64 created.
I thought that there would be at least one Chef willing to "microwave" a dish for me.

The problem that people claim is there with Android is fragmentation of the specification of phones on the market; to the end user, there is no effect. In my opinion, it is a load of rubbish.
We do get everything first here!
The difference is that the T8285 supports North American 3G frequencies, while the T8282 supports the rest if the world's frequencies.
The problem is that the Touch HD is very much legacy; very few support it now as a result.
Unfortunately, I can't really help you much when it comes to ROMs; I have no knowledge of WM devices. All you can do is look at the Touch HD section of XDA (is there one?) and see what you can find.
But really, don't dismiss newer platforms just like that. You really need to try Sense on a newer device; it is a full experience on Android, not just a skin on top of the OS. You'd adjust easily, and it is very well done

My suggestion is to just update you phone... Would save you alot of time and money.

Yes, most likely I will be purchasing a new phone in the near future...
HOWEVER, regardless of new or old wouldn't any "customization" not oem require an XDA Dev (or like)?
That's why I figured why not "pimp out" my HD, and that will keep me satistified until I find something a really like.
***Question:
Can Anyone tell me how much work is involved in "cooking"?
Like man hours using an existing kitchen...
I assume seasoned Chefs like Mr.Duttythoy makes his own kitchen from scratch?
How long would it have taken him to produce one of his well respected roms?
(I have a post in the mod request forum referring to my lack of programming knowledge, and how programming knowledge is a definite requirement for cooking)
SO No, I am NOT able to cook for myself.

That would be fine, but as we've established, it is now a legacy device. You certainly won't find another dev willing to work on the phone for you.
The amount of hours that goes into these ROMs is...well, it really depends on what is wanted in the ROM. We're talking hundreds of hours over a period of time. A single ROM, from scratch, if anything needs to ported, again, tens of hours.

ARGH!!!
This is frustrating!
I've checked out the new Android phones coming out this month (Rogers - Canada): HTC Evo 3D, and LG Optimus 3D.
While the 3D is VERY appealing,... (the phone) NOT my style..
Microsoft threw some nails in the WM coffin in the last few weeks, with the discontinuing of the Marketplace, and My Phone. (The Live Mesh beta was sweet, but ended)
I REALLY wanted MY rom...
Can anyone reading at least give me a quote on how much ($)they'd be willing to make it for??
(Then I can better judge if it is worthwhile (cost))
**I'm not having much luck on the Freelancer site I mentioned either...
Right now, as it stands, IF I get a new mobile soon it would be the (BIG SIGH) Blackberry Torch 9860 (Monza) - the full touch BB.
But I'm not a BB fan!
(I'm not even much of a 'Droid') fan... **not trying to offend 'Droid lovers
I'm not a chef for the Blackstone (Touch HD), so I won't be able to help you make the ROM, but I can offer a couple of pointers.
1. As was mentioned, the 3G radio hardware is different in your device to what the US frequencies are. Yes, you can update the radio firmware, but this is only tweaking what the hardware can do and how it performs, i.e. battery performance, signal strength and so forth. 3G is frequency specific and must be taken into consideration before making a device purchase because the hardware cannot be changed without swapping out the main board. If you want to do that, then it would still be cheaper to get the other device.
2. You should ask about this in the device-specific forum that you want the ROM created for. Not many devs are going to regularly check this area. You would do well to either PM them or simply post this thread in the Blackstone forum.

Well what I would of done is went to the development thread find the latest rom releases and contact that developer for this project. I was bored so I went and did half of it for you . The latest I found was the Eneregy Rom series released July 4 which is close enough. NRGZ28 makes the Energy rom series, I would get ahold of him and let him know about your project and that you are willing to pay, maybe you might get lucky

Hi again Cajun Bob,
I WOULD have posted in the HTC Touch HD forum - but, I'm pretty sure it's against the forum rules... I asked a Mod, they "said" I shouldn't (not can't), so I didn't risk it - I know how you guys are with the forum/post ish
I have TRIED to contact devs via PM, but other than the mods, or really helpful types, the reply is nil.
I'm not sure how to request a thread move...
