For people waiting for Pointui Home2 free(if there are any) its out, n its awesome! At last a great alternative to M2D etc. Infact I think its better. Check it out here.
Still takes too much RAM just like M2D. And I don't know but I feel that 1.51 was much better than Home 2, it just feels like all show but no go.
It seems neat, but like xPreSiDenT said, it takes too much ram.
Playing with it, I ended up with about 8 meg free, and if I open a spreadsheet, or anything that consumes just a bit of memory, it will close home 2. Kinda defeats the purpose.
I think it is a neat idea, we just don't have enough memory.
i try it!
is tooo much unstable i have to hard reset the phone one or two time per day!
because the fone freez!
isn't very good for me!

that's my problem too!
my phone freezes, it's very important for my having my phone right
for this reason i've unistalled pointui
I like their features and how it does it, but not for my phone
best luck for all of you mates
Tried it, hogged ram like a mofo, uninstalled. Now there is happiness back in the world.
It did look good and ran fast but the ratio of geek-goodness to app resource hogging simply did not cut it.
Its definitely cool. I think it needs a bit more work to become my HTC Home replacement.
Theres definitely bugs present (like how for the weather when you select New York it marks it on the map as being in the middle of Africa, or Los Angeles in the middle of South America).. but I'll keep a close eye on it

€dit: oops wrong fix but nice to know it too^^
Another fix from PointUI board from JSpeed
That is a very good assumption, however the problem (I suspect) is the change from hi-res to low-res. In World.cs there is a line that finds the size of the screen. for hi-res (VGA), it subtracts 180 from the width. in QVGA, it does the same. This should be 80 instead.
It looks like this:
y = GetTop();
x = GetWidth() - 160;
// Whack up the first icon
imgWeatherIcon1.Surface.LoadFromFile(imageFile1); // Load the appropriate image
imgWeatherIcon1.AutoSize();
imgWeatherIcon1.SetBounds(x + iOffset1, y);
// Position the control where it needs to start
imgWeatherIcon1.AnimateClear();
imgWeatherIcon1.AnimateFade(0, 100, 3);
imgWeatherIcon1.SetVisible(true);
Simply changing the 160 to 80 seems to fix this problem perfectly.

Is there going to be a section for the HTC Touch/elf soon? It was released yesterday. http://www.htctouch.com
I just ordered mine
Can't wait for it to get here.
OK, I have received my HTC Touch! It really is as amazing as it looks. Any questions or comments post here.
The only little problem I have had is the weather app. does not have a town close enough to me but I've solved that.
Here's what I did:
Go here http://www.accuweather.com/us-city-list.asp?zipcode=&u=1&partner=accuweather and find the weather page for your city/state/county. Take a look at the URL, on the end, you should see something like:
locCode=EUR|FI|FI002|HELSINKI|&u=1
(Helsinki is already in the weather file, this is just an example!)
Take a note of this.
The file we need to edit is read-only, and I can't see a way of editing it via activesync/windows. I just got a load of write-protect errors. I got a tool called TotalCommander, it's a freeware file viewer/editor for the PPC.
In TotalCommander, navigate to \Windows\ and open HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml
Once you're inside this file all you need to do is copy an existing entry and make sure you put in the corresponding weather data from the step above.
Ex.
<city name="Helsinki, FI" locationcode="EUR|FI|FI002|HELSINKI"/>

Questions...
indeed I have a lot of questions
first congratulations for getting this awesome device so fast. I think of buying it because it's nearly of the same size as my HTC S620 Excalibur smartphone but I have NO experience in PPCs...
So here we go
1. how is the battery life
(I know it will last a while until you can say something significant)
2. how much memory is available
(internal user Flash and RAM) - on my S620 I have installed nearly everything I regularly need on the phone since it has 66MB of user flash available)
3. Can you run TomTom on it?
4. any software issues with installing third party programs
5. how is the screen?
good readable in direct sunlight?
6. how is the screen protection?
Is it soft as a usual touch screen or hard as a mobile phone screen?
Is it possible to mount a screen protector without losing "touch control"?
7. how is the loudspeaker?
loud and clear enough for navigation in car?
8. Do you have the possibility to compare the speed with a standard smartphone?
That's it for the first - maybe to come more if I have forgotten something
Thanks in advance for your answers
and habe a lot of fun with your new toy
Hi!
I will try and answer your questions as accurately as possible, but bear in mind I have only had this device for a little over 12 hours, and I had to sleep at some point during those hours.
1. Battery life so far is good. HTC state battery life should be 5 hours talk and 200h standby and I think this is quite accurate.
When I got it it was partially charged. I charged it for an hour or 2 (while using it) and used it heavily after that, around 4 hours of bluetoothing, wifi and camera. This morning the battery is at 57%. I'm quite happy with that, considering I have not even given it even 1 full charge/discharge cycle.
2. 128MB of ROM and 64MB of RAM. 32.5MB Free out-of-box. It comes with a 1gb microSD but I've already upgraded to 2gb.
3. Yep, TomTom is one of the first things I installed
4. No software issues so far, but I have only installed a couple of games and Spb GPRS Monitor. My one gripe software-wise is that there is no 'Internet Calling', no built-in voip.
5. The screen is great. Really clear, crisp and readable. The WM6 image they have has cleartype (no tuning application, mind)
6. Screen protection is not great. The screen itself is flush to the phone, there is no recess like other touch-screen devices. While this makes it look great, and makes it easy to touch buttons on the edge, it also makes it very scratchable. Luckily the phone comes with a nice little HTC case. The case is a snug fit, not big or obtrusive, no straps, loops or anything. It is a spongy material with soft interior. I am not using a screen protector because the case will do just fine. The screen protector that's included with the device looks like it would fit well and go almost unnoticed but I am a bit reluctant to put it on because you already have to be very 'positive' with the screen to get it to react. This is by no means a bad thing, by the way. Overall, it feels good to use.
7. I have yet to properly test the loudspeaker. I gave tomtom a quick blast and from what I heard, I think it would be fine in a car.
8. Well I have moved to this device from a HTC hermes. Yes, there is a difference in speed but I personally dont find it a problem. I would consider myself a bit more than a casual PDA user (if that makes any sense). I use it for work, surfing, gaming and obviously phone calls/sms and I dont have a problem with the speed. I think this is possibly an unfair comparison however, as something that may take 5 seconds on a hermes could take 10 on the Touch -- but the hermes would have crashed half way
The only smartphone I have really had experience with is the N91. I found the N91 so slow I had to get rid of it. I'm keeping the Touch
Hope this has cleared a few things up.
VOIP
Is it possible to run programs like skype for VOIP on the HTC touch?
And how is the quality of the camera and music?
Thanks

Hi alanp23. Firstly congrats on your new HTC Touch. I love the flush look of this baby and would much prefer this over any i-phone wanna be PDA.
As your no newbie to PPC's, you'll undoubtedly be aware that you can overclock the TiOmap processor to about 240- 260Mhz without issue.
I found my old overclocked HTC Prophet outperformed my 400Mhz Hermes. Fancy that!!
Anyway...cut to the chase. I know you have hardly had your device for a few minutes, but would you mind making your ROM/extended ROM visible and seeing if there is a cab file for the Cube Touch software? If you are able to extract it and upload it here or to the Athena forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310459
This would be greatly appreciated by the xda community as we could try and see if it would be possible to run on other devices.
I doubt very much if it will run on the Athena, but we're all willing to give it a run.
What do you say? Up for it? Thanks if you are and I understand if you're not.
Either way, enjoy your new toy, it looks fab.
P.S. If your using TomTom and haven't checked out an alternative, you simply must have a look at the repackaged version of iGo My Way GPS software known as MioMap v3.2 with the Quicksilver Map. It's far better and more accurate than TomTom and much more configurable. Also, it takes up much less space on your device.

I can just see some of the programmers here hacking and improving on it somehow so the rest of us can benefit from it. That would be cool.

Seems to work fine in FF v3

works great
the touch movement is so smooth & light to use....unlike the touch flo with some on the roms

working great
Hi dudes, just install it, working great on Trinity. really smooth, amazing stuff, thanks for the great post bro.
yes i think many will be shocked at how good this home cab really is

The directories in the German WM6 version don't match.
For example directory "start menu" is "Startmenü".
The PointUI Software does not find the programs.

I have loaded it on my Trinity running AX3L 3.12. It all seems to be working ok except that the time won't change to 24hr mode and the dialer won't work in the call history. I've tried changing the region etc., it still dials and I get a message from my provider saying that it is not a valid number. If I go to my normal call history in Windows 6, it works as normal.
Also, touch flow doesn't seem to work proplerly outside of the Home environment. I have uninstalled my 1.41 touchflow because it conflicts with the Home app gestures. So now touchflow only works within the Home app.
If I go to Wifi settings, Home takes me to the GSM data connection settings, not Wifi settings. The battery icon at the top doesn't indicate charging, and although I haven't tested Home for very long, it may be a battery eater...too early to tell for sure.
For the first incarnation, this looks very promising.

Tried!
Works!
Lived 2 minutes.
Uninstalled!
I don't really like the touch things, neither flow not this.
Plus, it hung several times while I tried to set weather location for my city.
Also, I have my Trinity all black, this is nice, but blue.
i hope this will be available in android.. as as 1 of the gui!!... great..
Looks nice but is there any easy way to get into the contacts from this software?
Would be nice if one could change the colour of it too.
Revised version with a little more customization available for download already. these developers do listen!
Version 1.0 had some language issues.
Version 1.01b drained my battery within 1/2 day.
Best "Finger"-Software but not stable on the P3600.
have had it for 2days on my m700 working great very finger friendly battery nothing unusual to speak off the same as always and im using Schaps Wm6 WWE rom which by the way rocks
Great product and for free. Love it!
Definitely worth a donation to keep it free and updated
I really do appreciate the efforts of all those people working hard to make our Diamonds better. Here I'd like to post a list of things we could suggest to them. Even if we don't know anything about rom cooking or progamming, we could post our hopes and maybe chefs could get good ideas for their future works.
My personal wishlist is
- using touch-sensing ring for up/down/left/right moves
- tilting left/right to switch Touch Flo 3D tabs and for back/forward in Opera browser
- haptic feedback when using virtual keyboards
- adjustable keypad light timeout
ps sorry for bad english
It would be fine if someone figures out the problem with the static navigation mode
of the GPS chipset! Before the Diamond I owned a Trinity, which had also an Qualcom chipset, but worked rather perfect without any noticable lag...
I've tried almost every well known navigation programs, but they all lag like hell.
Reception although is very impressive, I always get a fix in a few seconds!

Think one of the most important is getting a 'today agenda' underneath the TFLO3D homescreen ...
So when swiping the clock upwards, a very rich agenda can be seen.
And changing/removing/reordering TFLO3D tabs
Put HOME in the middle

I second that. It'd really be wonderful if somebody could figure it out, the lags

also, on my old E6, i was able to hold the answer key to enable max brightness...
and hold it again to return it to original
is there any way i can do this, is there a program for keymapping for this or will this need to be put into the rom
the reason i ask for this option is that max brightness makes sunlight legibility much better...
Why not make your own rom with these things done. It's a bit much just making a thread of requests, the cooks are all normal guys with jobs and families or whatever like the rest of us, they work out fixes and make ROM's faster, but making a list of things for cooks to do isn't right in my opinion.

Not testing yet, i just install it, but looks prety great!

Runs and looks great, but things i dont like:
- Too much space at the buttom and
- i had to install it on the internal storage and not on the SD Card
But the rest is, as i said before, great. Good work i think.
Finally!
Looks and feels great - I think I would def upgrade to pro for unified messaging etc.
I am a happy bunny! Might just have to ditch touch flo 3d
Dont work for me Have a Swedish stock ROM.
runs great!!!
well it was running good until it locked up my device lol, soft reset time
I dont like it, something is missing
It looks really great and the animations are smooth. But it misses some features but I think they will come some time because it seems rather easy to write Apps for it. Not like Manila where you have many problems with adding your own stuff.

yes going to have to agree here. I am open to trying out new versions, definitely has potential with some additions and things you mentioned
No Thanks
I was a massive fan of PointUI v1 and had been looking forward to v2 being another huge step forward.
However, I have to say that it looks like a great big bag of crap next to TF3d (and I'm not a big fan of TF3d). Furthermore it seems to have limited functionality, is only a plugin and although it openly states it is a beta, the tone of the feedback in this site is distinctly mixed.
I think I would forgive the bugginess if it just looked better and brought something I thought was useful. But even the screenshots on PointUI's own site look poor quality.
Lastly, the 'Pro' version is paid for software - so how much? What will it do that Mobile Shell and WAD don't? Maybe the applet development will make it a must have...but it certainly needs a few good skinners on the case...
In summary...disappointed - just my personal opinion

You may want post what you've tried already so the suggestions that come through won't be plugins that you've already written off.
I'm currently in the process of testing SPB 3.0.1. Still not sure if I like it enough to replace TF3D as it doesn't allow total integration with my other apps...Resco contacts, sms chat.
I guess you are right.
For starters, I have installed SPB 3 and WM7 black skin..it is very good..not the best but good, I like it
So far I have tried:
×Throttle launch (not good, graphics were blurry, guess it is more for VGA , but could be OK for VGA device)
×PocketPlus (too much stuff, didnt like it)
×HTC Home (I dunno why, but I guess this plugin did something bad to my phone, it acted weirdly, although it provided informaton I wanted, I did a painful Hard Reset and after that everything was OK)
×SPB 2 (I used this for very long time, but I got bored from the graphics and I liked and hated Now screen at the same time )
×PointUI2 (this was freaking awesome, very smooth graphics, but I lack WVGA skins and applets, good skins were VGA only and I couldnt switch to my today screen, which I do sometimes to check how much have I called already)
×rlToday (this one could be great, but It was very small on my screen, I could hardly see the clock )
×this is all I remember what I have tried
Now I am using:
SPB 3
HomeScreen++ (I use this only as a Call Timer, but would like to use it wider, but dunno how , does someone have an advice how to get a MAX out of this prog?)
And I have Spb Wireless monitor and Spb Backup on my todayscreen.
Thats it. So I guess I have tried a lot, but still am not absolutely satisfied.
What I really wish for is something like Omnia today screen..Ow how I would like to drag and drop widgets...I know FEWidgets can do this but I dont like how it looks...
And what I would like to have mostly is somekind of desktop with Icons and stuff...ust like a normal PC....
Thx for replies guys.

how do you know which version is the right one?
are there any pics of the software in action somewhere?
Well it sounds like you've tried just about everything lol! You didn't mention Wisbar Advance Desktop I see. This is the closest thing I've found where you can have the look and feel of your desktop PC.
Check out Mallmans Vista Theme here > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=468153&highlight=Vista+Theme < Check out his site for more themes here > www.swampthing.net
Ow
You see, as I said I didn't remember
I tried WAD already, but again, some things are not to my liking.
I guess I am very demanding
thanks for your helps guys.
I guess I will stick with SPB 3 for some time.
Although Id like to make my own theme but dunno how.
I made a thread about this, hope someone will throw some letters in it
Thanks.
