JFv. 1.42 ADP1.1
JF just released the official version of ADP1.1 with the new features of RC33. Would the current versions of ADP1.1 themes work or is it going to be another who new redo?
I flashed over JFv1.42 and then tried to re-install a theme am now getting stuck at the G1 screen(fisrt splash). Im guessing that re-installing RC33 lite will just nullify the JFv1.42 update, right?
Im guessing theme user now have to wait for "JFv1.42 RC33 lite" in some cases???
You can remove the files which make the lite version lite by doing this:
-Go to terminal emulator
-Type
su
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
rm -r /system/media/audio/ringtones
rm -r /system/media/audio/notifications

Thanks Jack. I am applying the RC33 lite file as we speak. I have the JFv1.42 up in the top corner. I'll let you know how that goes. I think I might have made this thread prematurely sorry mods
Edit: after loading RC33 lite back on, the recovery utility flashed back to JFv1.41. To anyone who is looking to apply a theme after the JF update, you either have to the wait or apply the commands above to make the space.
Thanks again JD, if I follow the commands above will all stock ringtones/notifications be removed?
Is 1.42 worth it? or should I wait a bit longer, it seems that as of late every two days something new comes out.... I am happy with rc33lite141 so far..
for all the lazy people who dont wanna touch terminal, I'll release a lite version of 1.42 later tonight if someone already hasnt by then

Well my only thing is the ones that were actually left in the "lite" versions were the ones I actually used. I can definitely run the commands, but I'd like to use those stock notifications. I wouldn't want to take your time away from the final build of your theme .

After you mount the image you can actually navigate to the Ringtones and notifications and delete out the ringtones you dont want and keep the ones you do.

time to ALT+W and ALT+S...then bed lol
There is a way to use default ringtones and notifications and make the JF v1.42 RC33 into a lighter weight version! Just extract the system/media/audio folder out of the JF 1.42 RC33.zip on your PC or Mac and place it in your sd card. Just remember to delete all the system/media/audio folders in the phone system itself via file manager that you don't want (or do this... go to the terminal emulator and type "su" then "mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system"
then "rm -r /system/media/audio/ringtones"
and finally "rm -r /system/media/audio/notifications") so you don't have duplicate sounds when you choose your notifications from the list.

Thanks sino8r, that makes a lot more sense now
Do the themes need to be revised for this update or will they be fine the way they are?
All I did to apply the changes in 1.42 was fastboot flash the new recovery.img and boot.img (not even sure the boot.img was needed) the only changes noted were to the recovery mode to fix adb.
I guess everyone is obsessed with the update.zip method, no one tries the easy ways.
the only thing that changed on rc33 1.42 was that a new recovery image was added to allow adb in recovery mode. my rc33 lite already had that so if you have lite you don't need to flash to 1.42
ADP themes from before will not work after upgrading to JFv1.42
Just FYI

yes you did something wrong,
you typed
rm -r /system/media/audio
it should have been:

yeup, open the theme and navigate to /system/app and push it with adb to /system/app.
You should also be able to use the terminal. Copy it to your sdcard and open terminal
Code:
su
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cp /system/app/Launcher.apk Launcherold.apk
rm -r /system/app/Launcher.*
cp /sdcard/Launcher.apk /system/app
reboot
if for whatever reason that causes problems reflash your rom or boot in to the recovery console and type
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cp /system/app/Launcherold.apk Launcher.apk
reboot
for some reason, im haveing problems trying to get it to work, anything else i can do?
just tried to boot it up... its stuck at loading screen and loading graphics keep on flashing... nothing is done.
Users be careful when installing this theme... If it does lock your phone to the boot screen. Simply take out your micro sd card then and put it in a SD Card adapter and remove the theme, and copy a working one back on and then rename it update.zip and reboot your phone to reflash it.
can you port to 4.01.1.1 or whatever cy's newest experimental is??
Big ups to Drizzy for making such an awesome ROm.

actually it would be the recovery console because i do not believe that you can type "mount data" or "mount system" in the terminal and have it work, it will tell you the device or resource is busy.
also i use windows and i have adb.exe and AdbWinApi.dll in my system32 folder so i can use adb from any directory on my computer.
the working path is what appears by default when you open up command prompt (which for me is C:\users\david\ i use for adb commands do adb push desktop/what.ever [dir on phone] or adb push downloads/what.ever [dir on phone])
but as stated before drop the files into your tools folder and cd to your tools folder then adb push from there.

Anyone know if it this possible?

not like the animations from eclair . as far as i have been able to find this is only a eclair thing.

Not gonna work, 1) What the hack are you trying to do with that command and 2) He's on Donut, he needs eclair
Damn My eyes are terrible.
note to self:
READ BEFORE WRITE!!!!
on google donut builds, you're stuck with the android-logo-mask and android-logo-shine boot animations. on hero builds, you can use the animated gifs. on eclair builds, you can do the bootanimation zips. if you want to know how to do a standard google build boot animation without using adb, check the link in my signature. i made a full written + video tutorial on how to do it.
the other easy way to do it, is of course, metamorph. making the .thm files takes about 30 seconds and you can flash it without having to use adb, terminal OR recovery.
So how did Cyanogen make a custom boot animation for CyanogenMod?
exactly in the fashion shown in my video tutorial. its not hard.

Peace all,
t
his is less of a bug and more of a question… i think. I'm trying to install a custom theme for the HTC_IME MOD keyboard.
Here goes: I downloaded Myn's RSL2--the ROM is GREAT!! However, the HTC_IME MOD he uses is MANUP's (all black keyboard w/ green highlights)--which looks great---but its difficult on my eyes and I need something a little lighter. So i downloaded the regular HTC_IME MOD and attempted to open it in ASTRO and it only gave me the options of "launch" or "uninstall". When i tried to uninstall it said i couldnt do it---so i went through Titanium Backup and un-installed it there---now i can't re-install from ASTRO.
can anybody assist me w/ Terminal Emulator commands to PUSH this to system app?
I think the problem is due to the fact that Myn's original keyboard is baked into the rom, but i don't know how to re-install or install over this. Any help is appreciated.

Does anybody know?
easiest way would be through adb, but since you want to use emulator...
put the apk on the sdcard
go into terminal emulation
type 'su', it should give you a # prompt
Code:
# mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
#mv /sdcard/whateverthefileiscalled.apk /system/app/whateverthefileissupposedtobecalled.apk
#exit
reboot it. that should work. if not, it's probably because i've copied the wrong mount command. google it. keep in mind that system is on block four on evo

*EDIT* I got it working

There's a really simple way to prevent CyanogenMod from overwriting your custom /system changes during an update. Create the file '/system/etc/custom_backup_list.txt' with a list of files within /system that you don't want to be overwritten.
For example, to prevent CM from wiping out Swype, open adb shell and type this:
Code:
mount -o remount,rw /system
cd /system/etc
echo lib/libSwypeCore.so >custom_backup_list.txt
echo app/Swype.apk >>custom_backup_list.txt
cd /
mount -o remount,ro /system
If you use teferi's custom keymap, do this:
Code:
mount -o remount,rw /system
cd /system/etc
echo lib/libSwypeCore.so >custom_backup_list.txt
echo app/Swype.apk >>custom_backup_list.txt
echo usr/keylayout/vision-keypad.kl >>custom_backup_list.txt
echo usr/keychars/vision-keypad.kcm.bin >>custom_backup_list.txt
cd /
mount -o remount,ro /system
Then the next time you flash CM, your changes to /system will still be there. If you want to see why this works, take a look at /system/bin/backuptool.sh
Hope this helps
Thanks! This is great; now I can easily keep my Email.apk that doesn't require me to enter a alphanumeric password every time I want to use the phone.
CM probably needs to overwrite build.prop but I've been changing the LCD density in this file. Is there a way to use a seperate file to override the lcd density so that i can let CM overwrite build.prop but still maintain lcd density after a flash?
Whatever commands you put in /data/local/userinit.sh will run at boot. So in adb shell, type this for a density of 215:
Code:
cd /data/local
echo setprop qemu.sf.lcd_density 215 >userinit.sh
awesome! thank you!
Don't suppose you would know how to get the CM update to not install/auto delete after installation apks like ADWLauncher and wifi calling?
Thank you!
This may be the long lost solution to my Swype and Cyan Problems. The new Release Candidates are destroying my swype and not liking it's return after installing the new Cyan. So, if this can basically help me update without losing much, it's a god send. Especially the LCD density.
You're a genius.
Thank you.
Hmm, seems the issue is still persistent. Thanks though.
Should userinit.sh and custom_backup_list.txt survive the upgrade or should they both be included in the backup list file?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
If you look at the actual script, it seems that it ignores the backuptool if .installscript exists, and in practice, I've noticed that nothing gets saved when flashing via ROM Manager. Is this, in fact, what's happening, and is there a way around it?
