Wisbar Advanced Desktop 2 or Touch FLow 3D???
Ive had my HD for a week now and barely scratched the surface of this fantastic piece of kit, Im still running the bog standard HTC TF3D theme/homescreen, the thing is, the more WAD2 stuff I see, the more I like. I've checked out www.lakeridgesoftware.com and www.swampthing.net and I think Im going to go with WAD2. Just wondering what the general opinion is...pros and cons?
Thanks guys, great forum btw !
pros : you can do just about anything you want with WAD
Cons : steep learning curve I've found

Ok mate, thanks. Presumably by steep learning curve, it depends how far you are willing or 'able'(!) to go into it? There seems to be alot of info floating around here and other net forums.
Any more opinions?
I'm using WAD2 as of right now and love all the capabilities of the software. I agree that it is a steep learning curve but for us WM users, isn't that one of the pluses for owning these awesome devices? WAD2 outperforms TF3D as far as usefulness functionality.
The only thing I miss about TF3D is the weather animation...which I believe will soon be incorporated somehow in WAD2!
TF3D looks pretty to start with but it always seems to take me 1 or 2 taps/slides more than I would like to do what I want.
WAD2 lets me configure my home screen exactly as I want. I have my most common contacts, playlists, application shortcuts and notifications all in one place.
If you use Davideuck's ROM he also includes wkTask which works great for me alongside WAD2. I use WAD2 desktop mainly for notifications, agenda display, contact shortcuts and a few useful but less frequent application shortcuts. I use the downward swipe feature of wkTask to call up a launcher with my 12 most common shortcuts (which can be called up from anywhere). I'm sure you can install wkTask separately but I would recommend Davideuck's ROM as it's very stable and seems to fly along with great battery life.
Cheers,
David
Thanks for the answers guys, think I'll go with WAD 2.

Is there a way to keep theTouch Flo interface and just make WAD2 like a softkey shortcut on the homescreen of TouchFlo? It would be cool if I could switch interfaces on the fly like that

Do a search for "Second Today". I've heard that this program will allow something like this to be done... not quite sure how it work as I haven't tried it myself yet.

Hi guys.
Finally I'm moving from 5 -> 6
I think I'll go for the Schaps 4.31 or Shamanix.
I understand both of them misses Cube. Please let me know:
1. Is it useful?
2. Where do I get it?
Also, I understand that both come with TouchFlo which makes Tytn a bit like iPhone but it misses the finger-opereated virtual keyboard. Are there any alternatives to the virtual keyboard to be used with TouchFLo?

1) yeah the cube is useful, but still of course a matterof personal preference.
2) there a really cool link at the top of the page titled "search" and i'd recommend using that to find the cube. there are several different cubes and skins, you'll only know which you like best by searching around and trying them out.
as for on screen keyboards, i like pocket cm which you can get from the pocketcm website if you'd like to try it.
In my opinion the cube is over rated...
OK, it looks cool but provides little when compared to great home screen programs like ultimate launcher which also have cube & slide modes. (you have to experiment a bit with the settings) The cube is pretty rigid in terms of expansion.

i agree that the funtionality is kinda limited and honestly i don't use it all that much except to impress people with how cool it makes the phone look haha. that being said i still think it is useful, just more so to some people than others.
Slither has a great cube its also on youtube ...
Yup ... search is your friend.
Hello,
I use SPB Mobilshell 2. It is like HTC Cube but I found it better
Pointui Home 2 is Out.
Not testing yet, i just install it, but looks prety great!
http://www.pointui.com/
Runs and looks great, but things i dont like:
- Too much space at the buttom and
- i had to install it on the internal storage and not on the SD Card
But the rest is, as i said before, great. Good work i think.
Finally!
Looks and feels great - I think I would def upgrade to pro for unified messaging etc.
I am a happy bunny! Might just have to ditch touch flo 3d
Dont work for me Have a Swedish stock ROM.
runs great!!!
well it was running good until it locked up my device lol, soft reset time
I dont like it, something is missing
It looks really great and the animations are smooth. But it misses some features but I think they will come some time because it seems rather easy to write Apps for it. Not like Manila where you have many problems with adding your own stuff.

customization? not even unicode fonts
a thin layer of candy eye skin and after one touch...back to the old WM really, nothing to trade the tf3d for...uninstalled it after 15 minutes!

unfortunately none of that works. Even the folks on the forum are having problems. Looks like it isnt working correctly yet.... but it is still considered beta so ....... modding those files only makes all the weather disappear Guess I will wait on this one for a bit

yes going to have to agree here. I am open to trying out new versions, definitely has potential with some additions and things you mentioned
No Thanks
I was a massive fan of PointUI v1 and had been looking forward to v2 being another huge step forward.
However, I have to say that it looks like a great big bag of crap next to TF3d (and I'm not a big fan of TF3d). Furthermore it seems to have limited functionality, is only a plugin and although it openly states it is a beta, the tone of the feedback in this site is distinctly mixed.
I think I would forgive the bugginess if it just looked better and brought something I thought was useful. But even the screenshots on PointUI's own site look poor quality.
Lastly, the 'Pro' version is paid for software - so how much? What will it do that Mobile Shell and WAD don't? Maybe the applet development will make it a must have...but it certainly needs a few good skinners on the case...
In summary...disappointed - just my personal opinion

mmm
Yup aggred , instaled it .. and it was not as " smoth " as the 1.X, why have small buttons?.. why have news feeds?
I have a theme now for TF3D and it kinda looks goods... staying with that for a while .. sorry point guys
I quite like it, but it seems that I'm in the minority.
I've added my home town to the weather applet without any trouble at all, also local news in the today feed. Not sure why someone was having a problem configuring that. Pilot error?

You can get from here

try Mallman's stuff at www.swampthing.net

it also runs on WAD2
Excellent thanks for the links guys, very helpful.
Whats the big difference in the ifonz and swampthings software?
I mean there is one sitting there for free, or there is one where I would have to spend $15 on the WAD, then $2.50 on the program?

Thanks or the advertising lol. As for the freeware ifonz theme, you can certainly use this but you will need to mod it just a little. There are qvga and vga versions, not Wvga. If youa re looking for the most inexpensive way to get an iphone theme this is the way to go.... you will just have to resize the icons and such. Should work fine though.
Not sure what engine this uses because all of mine use WAD2. Looks interesting though. I would say try ifonz first and if it meets yoru needs you haven't spent a dime I am going to try it as well and see what i can do with it
ok i have downloaded the vga version and installed it. See screenshot. The only real complaint I have is that it runs pretty bad. Not unusable but the motions are not fluid. I think I see the files that make it work and it seems you could probably modify these files yourself to get better quality icons. The real benefit to using this is you save the $15 on WAD2. Of course anyone who uses WAD2 would probably admit it is the best thing since sliced bread if you want to customize your interface.
However, this is free and it pretty neat. I say give it a try before you do anything else. If it completely suites your needs then you are all set guys. For the record, i think it has a lot of potential. I will be toying with it a little in the future.
As the author of WAD2, i wouldn't recommend the theme above. There is a reallly good, high-quality iPhone theme for WAD2 by a user called "Torx" in our forums. It's not VGA (at least, not the last time I checked), but it is free and a better quality than the one linked to at the top of this thread.

agreed for the quality reasoning. I would recommend buying WAD2 for tha treason. I was only suggesting the above for the free factor. But, you get what you pay for.
Not greatly impressed with ifonz, so when i get some cash, will be buying WAD2 and the swampthing theme.
purchased!
Im very very impressed, good theme.
Just wondering how to link my own applications to each of the iphones on screen buttons?
For instance calculator, weather etc...?
does it run better with TF3d disabled?

yes it runs free and clear of TF3d, it is a total replacement for TF3D. You can change any of the links the buttons link too by tap/hold any spot on the screen that is empty. Select author mode. Now tap/hold the button you want to change and select properties. Select script. Edit the script. Enjoy You can also find this detail in the swampthing FAQ at:

Why don't you try it? It's a big cab and it has a limited (15 days?) trial.
I ran it a little on my TP and went back to touchflo, it is nice though, definitively worth trying!

The calender is WAY better than the Touch Flo, but other than that, it is just personal preference.
I think SPB shell is much better, due to the ability to customize. Pretty active community as well, meaning a steady supply of new widgets and customizations. Plus it's easy on the battery.
Definitely recommend the 15 day trial.
Since there are no custom roms for the CMDA version I currently use it. I prefer it over touch flow as you can customize it alot more and it uses alot less memory than TF3D does. It has a nice interface and it's fun to use if you get bored with TF3D or regular WinMo 6.1. If you are resourceful enough, you can use it for more than the trial.
tried SPB Mobile Shell,it's gorgous,of course it's better than Malina TouchFlo3D,I like it so much.
but i had to uninstall SPB Mobile Shell, the reason? it is not good at organizing calls and SMS,when there is miss call,SPB Mobile Shell only shows it for a while, then there is no indication you can see that there was a miss call.
this is terribly bad management.
IMHO it was worth it prior to TF3D as plain Windows Mobile 6 was pretty boring.
Now however its kinda like the old guy at the club.
I think touchflo looks nice and clean....BUT, mobile shell is crazy on the personnalization. ? 6 pages for personnalization + weather total of 17 pages with contacts and others .....I love it !
Take a look, it's sence la révolution v2 theme

Looking forward to that, I'm always changing and opened to new ideas !
Touch Flo has some serious usability problems.
Email and text messaging for instance.
If you want to check those it is a 3 step process most of the time.
SPB did a really good job making it basically a one touch method.
The eye candy is not as good and the calendar needs work but overall its faster to get things done with basically no lag.
The facebook integration IMO is better as well.
Worth the money.
I installed this theme and nothing is displaying correctly. Any ideas on what went wrong/ It seems like nothing is centered correctly.

I haven't had this issue at all. My notifications stay until I view them.
MS3 is always the first program I install on my phones. Love it, can't live without it. I live on the lifestyle screen, customized just how I like it.
I tried it a couple of days ago, and I guess I'm just getting old. There was a LOT of customization that you could do with it but I just didn't feel like going through all that to get it the way I wanted it. Out the box, I still couldn't get what I was looking for. I switched back to TF3D, but that's not to say that one is better than the other. It's really personal choice. I got pretty much all I need with a few tweaks and TF3D, but if I get bored, the Hero skin for SPB MS3 is looking really good.
Does anyone have any idea why when i install this theme it makes everything on my screen jibberish?

Well I'll keep it short .....
Recently devs here on xda released an app that would switch with the press of a button between Sense and Titanium....
Since the average xperia user's dream is to be able to have a separate panel for sense and one for titanium I was asking myself if smn into panel developing could develope two "FAKE" panels that by triggering the application would create the illusion of having two panels....
Like panel A >>>> triggers app>>>>triggers titanium
panel B>>>> triggers app>>>>>triggers sense
I believe it's doable and even easy but i dun ave the time to make it myself...nor i have the space on my HDD to install visual studio
Lemme know whatcha think guys !!
Cabs for the app can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5222980
WoW no one singe reply !?? ...ne body likes the idea ??
Whatever... guess i'll have to work this out myself...i'll have to learn how to use the panel dev tools first....if i achieve what i have in mind i'll share it
Good one
Actually your idea very good, just X1 user getting less now..

You're talking bout the one by sony ericsson requiring Visual Studio right ??
If yes i already downloaded both the panelizer and visual studio...I'm just waiting to have some free time and start on it....thedarkness which is the creator of the app shown his will to help create single executables ....so might be near...hope ppl find this interesting really, though i'll do it anyway cuz i like it
Just an EXE-panelizer's example cab. Only PanelManager\Panels entry should be edited.
However, I don't think it will help us.
It does seem like people are migrating out of Xperia and into other devices, but I am more thrilled about my X1 now than when I got it. X2 panels and task manager along with new possibilities for making panels (new Visual Studio panelizers) make this an awesome device now. Oh well, hopefully we'll keep some of the talent in the Xperia section because we still got some great rippers and chefs.
Anyway, yes is awesome idea. I used the Second Today HTML panel, and I made a customized one for myself, but ultimately HTML panels are a clumsy implementation.
I would be thrilled if you get get this done, but I believe you will have to do a DLL panelizer. I am pretty sure titanium is run through a DLL.
Just my two cents, since I don't code (I can only script), and have only made HTML panels (which I hate).
Good luck! I'll be keeping an eye out
would be really cool! I hope you'll get this to work mate, I really do!
any help?
hi there dark, im currently using TF3D detacher to switch between sense 2.5 and titanium on the latest valkyrie v5.5 and its lightning fast. It has seperate exe's for showing sense and hiding sense (i think. It has seperate shortcuts but im sure ive seen the exe before in program files or windows folder). I thought this might be of some help to you. Maybe not! Id like to switch sense and titanium via a panel too! Hope you can solve this, regards b
Hey DarkHalf - how's progress? I'm looking for exactly this kind of thing.
I also think this is a good idea! But I just don't have the skills to do it myself...
Im working on app that will allow you to simply switch between TF3D/Sense, SPB Mobile Shell and Panels.
Im trying to make it work on panel key, so there is one key that allows you to switch today screens.
Im working on your suggestion now.
Im trying to achieve with .NET program + mortscript from link you given.
Maybe i will release it soon, but there is lot of work to do because sense and panels dont like each other.

I think the mortscript should link to the switching app exe and then revert to the today screen, but most probably you've already thought of that
