I know it's possible to make any song on your sd card into your ringtone but can I do it for message alerts and other notifications?

The wav file needs to go in the windows folder, not the ringtone folder.

Hey guys, does anyone know how to set the sms into my own sounds for P3300? I try many times but still do not know how to save the file under which directory.....help please...
you have to change the extension of the file and then should put in windows folder to access that file for sms
Thanks for replying, dude.
What should I change on the extention if it is a MP3 format? And where should I copy to?
Thanks.....
SMS tones need to have a .wav extension if I remember correctly, and placed directly in the windows folder.

Ok, so I have a sound I want to hear when an sms message arrives, and I converted it to *.wav and put it in the Windows directory. How do I replace this sound with the original sms sound?
edit:
I think I already know. Once you've put in the windows folder it automaticly is shown in the list where you can change you ringtone sound, incoming mail sound, etc.
Maybe this is a better way
Just install this application and you have done it

Just transfer the desired files from your PC to your device via ActiveSync. Place the files in the 'My Documents' folder.
Go to Start -> Settings -> Sounds. Then just change your ringtone and SMS message sounds to your newly acquired sounds.
or you can make a folder on your storage card for you ringtones and name it My Ringtones.

Thats what I did and it works like a charm...
for some reason i've never been able to change my sms ringtone to one that i've put in the phone. is there anyway to fix that?
For SMS, ringtones have to be in the Sounds folder. Not in your My ringtones folder.

...which is why I stated to place all tones in the 'My Documents' folder.
...but like mikey said. unless you intend on placing your ringtones (or any tones for that matter) on your SD card. the "\application data\sounds" folder is the best place to put any tones.... whether it be for notifications, ringtones, or sms tones
How do you change "new txt message" sound?
How do you change "new txt message" sound?
Tried moving it to the my documents folder with the ringtones and windows system folder, but the file wasn't recognized. Tried mp3, wav and wma formats.
Like to change the new txt message sound to something else, but not sure how to get it recognized.

Create /notifications folder on root of SD card. Likewise /ringtones if you like. Any mp3 or ogg vorbis file will then appear in the sounds menu.

It worked a treat thanks. However, I have bought a new 4gb HC micro sd card and wanted to transfer all my ringtones and sms alert tones. I created both a Ringtone and a notification folder and added my stuff. But only the ringtons appear on my phone, not the notications. What have a I done wrong? is it because Im now using a 4gb HC card? Why do the ringtones appear on my phone but not the notification?? When I browse my phone and the sd card, I can see both folders Help
On my SD card there appeared at some stage a folder called "Notifications"; try the exact name.

Firstly, I created both a Ringtones and a Notification folders for both my ringtones and sms alert tones. At first, I could only see my ringtones on the actual device. I then did a reboot and restored my device to factory settings, I then took my sd card out and formatted that. I created my folders again and this time, I could now see and use both my ringtones and notifications in my phone. However when I try to add new ones, getting to me phone through Moto helper, the new additions do not show up in my device, even though when I browse my phone's sd card, I can see them through Motorola MTP interface. is there any way to fix this? Has anyone else had the same problem?? Help
im on CNA 3.8 and I was wondering how to set a mp3 as a ringtone
Put the mp3 file in the sdcard/ringtones folder, reboot and you should be able to select it as a ringtone.

The built in memory is considered the SD card by default.
Use any file explorer app to create a ringtone folder if you don't see one in the root directory.
Eg.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop
Thanks

Hello again,
for "custom" I mean using an mp3 or wav file, so an audio file not present by default on the phone..
For calls this function is provided, it a pity it s not for sms.. but hopefully you know how to do that!
Thanks in advance
(my goal is to make phone to produce a long sound if a sms from a particular number arrives)

Dear @dalepl, here we are
I tried link you suggested but nothing: link explains how to customize ringtone for sms based on sender and that is perfect, but what I also need is to use a custom mp3 or wav file for that
Do you know how to make it?
Thanks in advance
If you download or create a custom notification .mp3 file, copy it to the notifications folder on the phone. It should show up under CUSTOM in the list of notification sounds available to be used.

I am using a Samsung S22 Ultra with Android 12. If I use MY Files (must have SHOW HIDDEN SYSTEM FILES turned on), I have a NOTIFICATIONS folder on the root of the internal storage. That is the folder my custom .mp3 files are located. When I choose notification sounds, those files show under the Custom header.

Thank you so much, that did the trick!
no custom header present, but after i copied mp3 file in Notifications folder mp3 file title is visible among the list of builtin notification ringtones! So just selected it and it s done
Thank again!

I googled a lot for this info but nothing, sure it s something very specific, but really I found nothing.
Thanks again
You need to update the title to reflect that a solution has been found.
oh sorry
what s the pattern to write?
Just add solution found in title. That should be enough.
