Hi everybody. I just want to know if I can actually watch Youtube videos on Excalibur or it's an urban legend?
I'm using Ricky's v24 no opera version and I tried to follow the definitive guide (well, not so definitive) to watch Youtube videos (found in this forum using the search), I also tried Htc Streaming Media (a .cab file someone posted here) and none of them worked.
I use Wi-fi to navigate most of the time, since I don't have a data plan. My router has no blocking stuff (I disabled all for testing purposes) and I'm using Internet Explorer to browse m.youtube.com, but so far I got nothing but a "failed to find network" from htc streaming media.
So.... I really don't know what to do.
If anyone does, please, share your knowledge with me. Thanks in advance.
Easiest way is to use Skyfire it's free, also i use CorePlayer to stream of mobile YouTube.

I just posted a TCPMP player in this forum with all the plugins needed to play youtube and google video, search for that and youre good to go
Or you can always use Kinoma Free play... I been using this for a while and it is promising so far.

Dude... skyfire is the one.... How come such a software is not a hit? It's almost perfect.... I'm curious about it. I'll try to search for it later, but so far... what a great browser! the best experience I ever had. I wanna say thank you all, for all suggestions posted here, but I'll keep with skyfire.
I use skyfire, and it plays the youtubr videos, but without sound.. any idea?
I use a Program called Vtap. The Program is small and simple it searches youtube videos, myspace videos and more and streams without any problems. If you would like to give it a shot go to http://www.smartphonefreeware.org/download/vtap-0.143

I´ve tried TCMP and Kinoma before creating this post... both unsucessful, but Skyfire is the one.
But again, thank you all for your suggestions.

If that floats your boat. Skyfire is a memory hog, it has over heating issues (battery and processor) it will be ad supported (as soon as it is out of beta testing) so look forward to clicking through an ad every page click... na, not worth it to me.
Vtap
I use Vtap by Veevo. It not only shows YouTube but tons of other video on the web. Plays great!

I have to agree with Bupahs... TCPMP is definitely the way to go (if you aren't using Skyfire w/ a high-speed connection). I have yet to experience a player with more crisp, clearer playback than TCPMP. I found that the trick is you have to access the Desktop version of YouTube instead of the mobile version. The mobile version won't allow you to use TCPMP, but the other version will. How can you tell the difference between the two, you may ask? The mobile version will use a black background, but the PC (Desktop) version looks identical to the one you're used to.
I installed HTC Streaming Media and I access my browser through the Java application that should be on your phone (it came with mine) and go to youtube and I'm able to watch videos perfectly fine.

Now I'm not sure if these are versions that works on the dash but besides the one posted by technology which since he's banned all his downloads are closed, these were the only other ones I found.

If so could u tell me how to make it work?

thx for sky fire. the quality is not the best but it works
yeah I know but if they just make it 800x480 native not stretched it will be much better
This isn't rom related and should be moved out of this forum. Please try and follow forum rules when posting.

So?? doeas eny one know how to give sound to videos in skyfire??

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427702
It's a good soft.
just restart your device or just reinstall it it often shows that problem with almost every single people and another option before doing that u should carry out is go to setting advance option untick your hint to mobile device that should do i guess...
hope it works mate other wise only option is reinstall it and ya before and after reset.
its not working maby its cos i have duttys rom??:/
And tell me where on startup is this icon??
try mach 5, it's got the speed of skyfire (same technology) but with opera's resolution. It also sports a dedicated flash video player so youtube vids and the like will play without any problems (and look great when compared to skyfire).
Yeah its really really grate but its for cash:/
Skyfire
When it loads the home page and each time I launch a video I have an icon of a speaker to enable or disable sound. Do you have the latest version ?
Trying to watch a video on a website but it says that I need the latest version of Flash Player to view the video.
Any ideas on how to get around this ?
Cheers

What version of Opera are you using? My guess is it doesnt support flash. I am not sure if Opera 10 supports flash - maybe someone else can tell you.
Otherwise - check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544770
You downloaded core player - did you install it? What file extension are you trying to play?
Search for "fixOperaFlash" here on XDA. It allows Opera to play flash video and works OK (a little jittery and decrease page load times considerably).
Or better yet (IMO) give the new Skyfire a try (www.skyfire.com). Its much faster than Opera (on my CDMA TP2) and plays flash, silverlight, etc. VERY well.

Hi, just got my Desire
My problem is that I can remember seeing in videos about Android (or was it the iPhone?) that when I click on a Youtube link the Youtube app opens and I can rate the video etc and then return to the website.
But on my Desire the Youtube website opens and I have to click on the video and the "HTC Flashplayer" plays the video in bad quality.
Other example: On a website is the Youtube Player embedded and I click on the video. Again, the HTC Player opens and plays the video in bad quality. Now I have no chance to get to the Youtube site and rate or comment the video.
When i disable flash support the video isn't avaible at all. Is it possible to link the youtube videos to the Yutube app? I think I missed a checkbox or something... When I found a video I will post it here. Thanks for your help
Yep I posted a thread saying exactly the same thing a while ago, sadly there isn't anything you can do about it, it's one of those stupid decisions HTC have made.
If you root your phone and install froyo 2.2 however, videos will play from websites in the youtube app. But as soon as you install flash 10.1 beta you're back to the same problem, where it forces you to use the flash player instead of the excellent quality h.264 version. (in fact flash 10.1 beta is probably even worse than flash lite right now for playing youtube videos.) However if you do load up the flash version on froyo then tap on it, it does give you the option to open in the youtube app, but you have to load up the flash version first before it gives you the option.
When I disable flash in the options I doesn't see the video at all And in the options the HTC flashplayer say that he is 'No standard app' ("Kein Standard").
Isn't there a registry (coming from WM ) or something like that?
The only way for you to get such an option is to use a non-default browser. Like Dolphin HD. Using that, you do get such options when a YouTube link is clicked. Tragic decision by HTC, no doubt (although I don't have your limitation, oddly).

Hello.
I had the same problem (search the forum) but updated to latest Rom. Am using debranded Orange phone with T-Mobile sim card. Did OTA update, then WiFi stopped. Then installed full Rom using goldcard, didn't even get asked for a simunlock code (had used one previously). Now working! YouTube opens on clicking a link like on the Hero. Like it should.

@th3: Will try this. Is there a favourite browser (Dolphin HD?) like Opera on WM?
@Splather: Which ROM are you using now? Is Flash on other websites working? Is HTC Sense integrated? Are all other functions working?
Am I right that I don't need a goldcard with a unbranded phone?
EDIT: Okay... At the moment I got a system update from HTC...
EDIT2: Puuh...Wi-Fi still working =D
