WM2003 UGLY Phone Dialer Skin.. How to change??

Does anyone know how to change the skin that is on the phone dialer app for WM2003? I have an XDA I (wife's) and a MDA II, the default skin on 4.01 on the XDA I looks okay.. But that T-Mobile 1.60 upgrade OUCH.. Yucky Looking Pink and Green Skin. Someone please help me before my eyes burn out from looking at the dialer. :-D

How to change the phone skin manually
You can manually change the phone skin by overwriting the following files located on the \Windows folder of the Pocket PC Phone Edition device:

Just download a phone skin and copy the above files to your Pocket PC. Then reboot the Pocket PC to activate the new skin.

One additional piece of information: there is no .gif for a depressed number button. For unknown reasons, this image is stored as an icon resource inside a DLL.
I made DLLs with that icon for the "Candy Red" and the "Wood and Chrome" DesignLabs skins. These DLLs can be downloaded from http://www.tadzio.com/ppc/skins/TapResCandyRed.dll and http://www.tadzio.com/ppc/skins/TapResWoodAndChrome.dll , respectively. If you wan to create your own, take one of the above as a template, then edit it in a resource editor (VC++ works nicely).
To install such a DLL, copy it to the \Windows directory on your PPC, then change the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Phone\IcoFil to the name of your DLL, and perform a soft reset.

Whoooa!!! :shock: this is something really new!, lots of people have tried to figure out how to change this state, and now we know, this is great, Although I'm not a programmer I will try to play around with that VC++ thanks a lot!

use a resource editor .. heres the site so you can choose app ..

i suggest the Borland resource Workshop .. just dont know if it still there .. o compatible with winxpsp2
exescope is also great .. but a shareware
PS always make a backup of a dll .. sometimes .. resource editor causes the dll to be corrupted ..

some of the resouce editor only replaces or added the bitmap or image file use in the dll or exe, and it doesnt entirely create nor edit the image.. like the Resource hacker by Angus Johnson
thats why im suggesting the Borland Resource Workshop since it has that capabilities .. but since www.inprise.com no longer exist .. you can only use a resource editor that has that limitation .. to edit the image u will have to use an image editor like the windows paint or adobe photoshop .. or if it is an icon then an icon editor .. then replace the one included in the dll .. using the resource editor ..
but if you want to edit only the icon in an exe or dll for example the tapres.dll like the one above you can use an icon editor that can extract and automatically replaces the icon included in the dll or exe like in this link ..

i780PCSHK3 Upgrader VISTA Guide

As all we know we have been waiting official wm6.1 rom upgrade and mike-wasowsky named user made a big suprise! he gave us the links of wm6.1 roms for i780. I downloaded rom i780PCSHK3 and modified with an hex editor ( I would like to thank many time to melgurth to show how we can edit exe file ) then I installed rom yesterday night.no more problem during installation and phone is working very well. Now there is a mini guide how to do it;

2.) download an hex editor i preffered HxD as editor like melgurth and choose one of these exe files given above and at the end of last line at editor you will see the version of rom ( it is seen as i780CS) change it with your version ( mine was i780pdxhi1 so u will change that line i780DX) then save as you exe file somewhere on your pc. by the way
3.) Start exe file which is edited by yourself.the progress is shown at pc when rom download is finished then unplug your usb cable and power on your i780 wait for a while and there will come Language settings choose which language you want then system will be in that language
4.) as final, there is no operator settings in system tab it means you have to add mms and internet settings by manually.if there is a cab file for it can you share with us?

What is the i780PCSHK3 for language? I can't find any codes with CS? It's a provider customized?

yes it is belong to telenord telekom you can choose the language you want after rom installation process. and there is no operator logo or skin. just i needed is to have mms and internet settings of my gsm provider.because there is no shortcut to operator settings.you should enter it manually.i dont know do we have any chance to import a cab file from other version of i780 roms for operator settings?

My mouse stopped working... only DPAD with up/down works...
where could be the problem?

I have realvga installed. But it worked after some resets. so I don't think there is the problem located. Probably PQzII (for scroll buttons remapping)?
What I also noticed is that when I push an icon in a menu it scrolles to the bottom :/ only pushing longer on an icon it opens the tool...

.. try typing a COMMA (, .. the one on the righ side of the space button) - you will get a "ä" instead of the COMMA.. any idea how to fix this please?

Yes the XP Link seems to be out of order I mean what is the size there is no information of the file size. Keeps on downloading endlessly! Please upload the XP ROM to a downloading site and post the links. Benveq did you use the vista rom or the xp one? Which is better?

I have pda part as i780PDXHI1 and the Phone Part as i780PUHJ2 should I edit to i780DX or to i780PU ??????

Quick Guide
1. Download ROM from

2. Open the file (EXE) with winrar in a new folder
3. Open CSHK3_XP.EXE with HxD editor
4. From search menü: replace i780CS with i780DX (I used DX since I was using DXH1 as the PDA Part) save and replace CSHK3_XP.EXE file
5. Run setup.exe for the USB drivers and the other setup from unpacked new folder to install modem
6. Start CSHK3_XP.EXE (which you modified) and rom begin upgrading eboot+PDA+Phone. Detect Phone ( Tick mark all the components make sure device is charged fully and you have synchronised with active sync)
7. After upgrade completed and i780 restart set language and the device is ready
8. SPB Backuped up file from old rom insures you get the settings back.
9. Enjoy with new ROM and post any shortcomngs problems here.

Yes you are correct get this funny beahviour when try to type "," Any fixes any one????

Message and GPS button (always opens Meessaging) do not work correctly after remapping them...

Here is how:
1. Copy the manila file in question to your desktop (PC) or wherever.
2. Download Manila Editor over in the Diamond Forum (in "Themes, Software..." sub-forum).
3. Open Manila Editor and open up your manila file by clicking "Select Path."
4. Using manila Editor, export the image in the manila file as a PNG, or whatever format you like.
5. Use a program like Photoshop to change the color.
6. Using Manila Editor, replace the image in the manila file with the one you altered with Photoshop.
7. Backup your original manila file from your windows folder (i.e., copy it to your storage card or somewhere else).
8. Disable TFLO3D (setting-->personal-->today--> Items).
9. Copy your changed file into windows with total commander (or resco explorer).
10. Restart TFLO3D.

Cook another start menu icon into rom?

Hey guys!
Allright i know i have posted this in the blackstone forum but it dosn't seem like i can get any help there so now iam trying here .. It might seem like iam at a haste but i want to get my rom finished and this is my last issue before its ready..
I want to replace my start menu icon with one that i have made by myself.. However i can't make this work.. If i open the Shellres.192.dll file with Reshack and navigate to Icon -> 292 and replace the icon with my own one. Save the Shellres.192.dll file and sign it with msigner.. And then finally replace the one in my SYS\Base_DPI_192\Shellres.192.dll\shellres.192.dll file with the newly modified one.. it just shows my old ordinary start menu icon.. :S
What am i doing wrong here ?

There is a dedicated thread about customizing the taskbar here on xda.
I think you need to add the file including the land code. So you need to add 0409 for English for example.
You can easely check the file on your device before cooking.

Changed the shellres file in the sys folder, but then I had the original cooked in.
I copied then my own shellres file in the OEM folder at Operator Package.
If i cook the rom, then you get the massage, thet the shellres in SYS folder gets overwritten, by the own one from the OEM folder.
I used bepes kitchen to cook my rom.
For me this works great.
Maybe it helps

Hmm i think that if i do that BuildOS will just give me an error that the file allready exists instead of overwriting ? But should i then delete the one from SYS ?

And then finally replace the one in my SYS\Base_DPI_192\Shellres.192.dll\shellres.192.dll file with the newly modified one.. it just shows my old ordinary start menu icon.. :S
What am i doing wrong here ?

I've just read your message today, i don't know if it's too late for the answer or not You need to delete all Base_DPI_192\Shellres.192.dll folder (it's a module, the file inside is not really important). Then, copy your new file to Base_DPI_192 to have the new icon!

Signal Icon in Taskbar...help needed

Hi,
I have been able to replace all my icons in taskbar...but iam facing this wierd problem...
my signal icon remains default...doesnt change to the required icon set...
following is the procedure (which aint working for me):
1. Downloaded new CDMA_RSSI_PPC.dll
2. Go to Windows folder and rename the already existing dll file to dll.bak
3. copy the new CDMA_RSSI_PPC.dll to windows
4. Soft reset
then the screen appears as attached without any change. Please tell me whr Iam going wrong

I extracted the htc icon from another shellres and replaced the icon in the shellres from tsowen's icon set that I'm using. Once open in reshack you can see the start icon at Icon Set>4609. You can save the start icon from there (Actions>Save Icon group) and then replace it in the other shellres (Actions>Replace icon). I had to rename the old shellres in my Windows dir before it let me copy over the new 1 in Totalcommander.

i have been replacing all my dlls with the ones on that site u had mentioned...
i have replaced the ccma dll with the option2 for signal icon on post5...and it neither changes the signal icon nor does it change the start icon...whr am i going wrong...

The CDMA dll changes the signal icons for the CDMA network (I think). I don't have CDMA network, just GSM here. I guess you're the same(?) All my signal icons are in the shellres dll not the CDMA, so changing the CDMA dll does nothing for me.

There are 6 different signal icons in the shellres dll, and only 1 start icon. It's easier to get your signal shellres and swap out the start icon for a new 1, which is at icon group 4609
