Newbie Rom Advise - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

I'm looking for a new ROM and was after some advise.
I've been running the stock HTC ROM on my O2 Ignito since day one (O2 ROM is the awfal), and upgraded to the new release last weekend. But i'm now getting itchy feet (and have some spare time at work) and would like to try some cooked ROMs.
I'm after something that is fast + stable and is good for multimedia, web access and I don't want any fancy skins on TF3D.
Anyone got any suggestion?

Oh great - another high and mighty....
Shrekie_Bear a lot recommend Dutty's ROMs but i'm actually going to be removing it from my Ignito as there seems to be a few annoying bugs so im going back to official HTC.
Heres a link to the latest Thread for Dutty's Roms http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=411707&highlight=dutty
Hope this helps... it seems some are totally against helping but more into purposefully annoying new people round here...
Cheers
Paul

Anytime - good luck!

I have been using Shaks 3.10 ROM for some time now and have had absolutely no problems. My Diamond is in use 24 hours a day and for at least 8 of those hours is running TomTom. (incidentally, using TomTom v 7.910 with this ROM has almost zero lag). The ROM has recently been updated to v3.2 but as I am so pleased with the version I am using I have not switched. I have tried most of the WWE ROMs you will find here and this is the most reliable I have found.
The ROM can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462455
Hope this helps

i 2nd that. 3.10 great rom, no need to move to 3.20 yet

You arent gonna get good answers asking that.....
Everyone believes that the best ROM is the ROM that fits your needs better. For some Duttys might be great for some it might not (like me).
It all boils down to the personal choice and the "feeling" that you get form the ROMS.
Personally I am using Swtos V2.5 Almost Full. It is amazing.
I also recommend very good ROMS by Chef udK.
But once again its a personal choice. Thats why you will get crappy answers for a crappy question.
Start flashing and testing, you will eventually find the perfect ROM.
Greets.

unfortunately - there is no simple answer to the best ROM, you might want to check some great benchmarks by pietrucci here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406640
i keep moving from one to another every week or so
good luck!

While it may not have been said in the nicest way, cyron_at is correct. The best way to find a ROM for appropriate for your use is to browse the Diamond ROM Development forum, and read the first few posts of each ROM thread. By doing this, you will be able to determine if a particular ROM suits your needs.

Faria's ROM

I have tried at least a dozen roms from different cooks. I am not sure if I am correct on this, but Faria's super clean rom blows everything away. Don't get me wrong, I think there are decent roms out there like the black version. But in my experience it just this faria rom is in a different class. I am refering not only to speed, but to stability as well
I have noticed there is not much discussion around this rom. Is there something I am missing?

I have to agree I feel the same way. I have tested almost all ROMs cooked around here and, although all of them have their particular things, either good or bad, I have to admit that Faria's ROM felt the most appropriate for me.
I am really wondering if Faria is going to release a new version of his ROM or not. I would really be among the first to try it.
I dont remember why I have given up on his ROM, but i think there was a missing functionality. Other than that, it was the most stable/fast ROM I have tried. At least in my case.

A search for faria would have done the trick, anyway:

By the way, I was also statisfied with faria's clean rom and I used it before i moved over to JJ's Black Majik LE. I guess the performance is achieved by the slimming the \windows-directory.
Some more rom-cooks should provide a light edition and deliver extra apps as extra cabs, since I think, LE's got the best performance.
I would also have to agree, would like to see a loaded ROM too.
As saves me installing so much.
faria's super clean rom is by far the quickist and best rom, infact its the ONLY rom Ive run on my phone for over a month!!! Just a shame we not had anything since.

does anyone talk to him in private, PM or so?
Maybe he can reveal if a new Faria ROM is on the way. that would be cool...
I do know he is very busy with his "normal life" nowdays and as such think this is the reason why we have not seen or heard from him. He was a true star on the wizard scene back in the day, a true gentleman too. I hope someday he will grace us again soon
Faria's been out of commission for a little while, relocating his family. He DOES have priorities ...
We converse fairly frequently, whenever he can find a hotspot or my wife doesn't catch the texting charges, ehehe!
He is a great chef, a gentleman and is a privilege to be his friend.
I'm expecting him back with a vengeance, nobody cooks quite like Jose. And it'sal.ways worth the wait!
Peace, out.

thanks guys....I’m afraid I’m unable to cook anything at the moment, I’m still relocating to another island...plus I lost my laptop to a cup of coffee ...the dam thing is pretty dead not even the bios come up.
This weekend I’m doing the final move to the new island...then I going to get dsl again and probably another laptop.
As for ROMs...I have another 2 new builds, one of them was supposed to be released very soon but disaster stroke with the laptop...
a will release more ROMs in future including a Portuguese rom for the Hermes but first I need got get my life together, I’m sure you guys understand.
I hope that i will see you all soon.
Regards
jose faria
I have tried every Rom almost...Elf v2.1, Black 3.0,3.5,Shadow,Magik,Custel,lvsw vpg cingular, sleuth developer...i must say, sleuth/faria's have the FASTEST roms..as in delay time, screen positioning after the keyboard is slided down,etc...faria's takes the edge in speed..but I personally still run Black Magik as it is customized to the way I want it, I have to do too much stuff to faria's rom to get it to my likings, and it is very stable but I did have problems with some programs...anyways I am definately waiting for v2.0!! hope all is well soon.

Great news!
I am running your old faria's super clean with hexedited to support Blackberry connect. The only ROM so far worked with my home wifi setup without disconnects. Not experiencing any SODs also.
I hope your next ROM will be even be better, can't wait to flash it.
Faria's wizard ROM was one of the best when I was using the wizard. I am sure he is capable of doing the same for Hermes. We just need to give him time.

Advice On Rom Please

Hi guys im currently using the Athena @ the moment and no much choice in ROMS ive just upgraded the contract for my misses and got a o2 xda orbit will be running with Vodaphone Sim and a 1GB mico SD its a great phone and theres an amazing amount of ROMS on here she isnt as technically minded as me and i want a Rom thats Cool, functional and with a simple interface she's by no means stupid as uses mine every now and then but dont want a Rom thats buggy etc Any one advise a good simple stable Rom to use I Know its a personal choice but i would appreciate some advice... Thanks Guys
It's all a matter of preference as they are all good, except the official O2 ROM. Meschle's look the nicest and have some really good toys especially his new Vanilla (with cherry) release, but I personally prefer Tom Codon's Black and Blue series.
I'd would wait for his 4.2 release, but if you can't wait, then 4.0 is great. I tried 4.1, but the infamous 'storage card' bug did put me off a little. I try most of the ROM's, but I am getting counseling for this addiction.
thank you for the advice the touch and black and blue roms took my fancy so will probably try one of these... Thanks again

Mate having gone through pages on pages I can only see cherry referred to in POLL but it is closed, Please help
am I blind
or just mad
In this case 'cherry' means that Meschle took the original WM6 OEM rom, made by Microsoft and --instead of adding a lot of fancy and sophisticated progs-- just added the fresh versions of some really useful utilities (as he put it in the first post of the related thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332531 See the bullet points!)
So, it's a quite simple rom, but enhanced with his cherry picking amongst the wide variety of apps that make the usage of our Artemis easier and more effective.
At least I see this way... (I'm far from being an expert).
The official HTC Europe WM6 rom has just been released (see a lot of fresh thread abuot it).
So, if you are cautious (I am), I suggest you to flash your Orbit with this rom. It must be stable and more or less bug-free (but certainly there is no guarantee...)
And later you can switch to a cooked one, if you wish so.
But be aware: first you should run USPL! See thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311403

Opinions regarding The best WM 6.1 ROM ??

Hi Everyone,
Can you kindly share your opinions about the best WM 6.1 ROM out there please ? Is there a 6.1 cooked ROM which comes close to the ROMS Schapps produced ? Personally I would prefer a stable , fast and bug free ROM rather than a glossy one with a plethora of 3rd party applications.
I have tried the Starbase S64 Manilla 2d rom but after a few hours of usage realise that it is not one I could keep for long due to problems with stability , speed and memory usage and several language bugs (German instead of English in Calendar, Maps etc)
Cheers !
the only way
To come up with an opinion is trying every single one, and decide what fits your needs.
We have benchmarks that has been done by Veyka on the sticky. And I have come up with two of my favourites on my signature, until you have flashed every single one (and I may add a good flash takes time) you won't be able to come up with any opinion at all!
Edit also there is an FAQ thread on the sticky.
Cheers and happy flashing!
Flash flash flash and compare, There's not much else to say.
We all do different things with our phone, I like CRC's, other people like PDAcorners, the almostnaked and anryl roms are good as well!
There all good! Just aim for a lite rom if your looking for something empty.
Also dont forget to flash a shipped rom if your going between Bigstorage roms.

Hi,
If you have tried a few 6.1 ROMS please simply state your favourite. Or if you are just happy with any particular ROM share its identity with us. An exhaustive comparison is not necessary

the exhaustive comparison has been done right here.
Zocster is right, I have flashed many of the roms on this great site and the ones in his signature are top notch. although I really like MRH 8.4 sun shower as well due to its design and fit and finish. every rom is good though and I find it thoroughly enjoyable to test them out.

Ill retread my own work..
Myself, Im a CRC fanboy
PDAcorner if you like the icons
Dvha, good, fast, not always sure what they are upto though!
The newer chefs are as good as the pros in many respects!
Almost naked or Starbase64's new roms have TF2D in them! (Just as easy to cab install though)
Loaded roms are slower.
Bigstorage roms are faster but need more care.

Hey Guys,
I haven't been here in a while, and I havent had my TyTn in a while either (lent it to a friend for almost a year...i know, im such a good friend) Well I got it back and I want to upgrade the ROM to something new/cool/fast.
What would you recommend? Which ROM and by whom?
Thanks guys, I was glad to see that XDA developers is still here
welcome back...a lot has been cooked up in the last year! for starters check out these great chefs WM6.1 threads/posts for details: abusalza, dvh, crc, joshkoss, and there are others...
try more than one...happy flashing
hmm such old question, you must have patience of a saint!
They've come a long way, and you'll be hard pressed to go wrong with any of the following:
CRCinAU's version 13 stable: I've been running this for the last 6 weeks, and never had a need to move off of it. CRC's AutoUpdate application is awesome for trying new features.
Abusalza's PDACorner releases... Really fast, I ran V20 for a long time after MRV left the Hermes forum for a newer device.
Joshkoss's Haloween release... I love this thing. It's amazingly fast, simple and has all the primary features I need. (google maps, opera that's fast, Youtube, MSOffice, and all the config tools to make it work well)
I've finally started trying the NRBS releases instead of the Normal ones. What a performance improvement.
Go read the wiki some, to understand the new jargon and instructions, and then start with any of these guys work and you won't be disappointed.
Happy flashing

Suggest some speedy ROMs for my new Diamond

I've been using SwiftBL 7.5 Full and I must say I like that ROM a little more than Dutty 3.2. I got Dutty's ROM so far and I don't know where to start to look for some speedy ROMs. I'm not talking lite only, I mean anything as long as it isn't too stripped down. Let me start the specifics...
1. Full Bluetooth Functionality especially A2DP, Headset, AVRCP, and OBEX
2. Stripped to the bare minimum but functional as in no Getting Started BS, no T9 correction (it gets annoying when you do everything DIY), Help Center since this is the great and only source to come for help , Live this and that, and if possible PIE unless it will conflict with the whole deal like in regular Windows
3. Allow access to some of the most deepest settings around
4. Leaving the HTC stuff in, maybe tweaking TouchFlo a little more if possible.
I might seem to be too strict so tell me these things and the pros and cons relating to what I want in the ROM you suggest. Thanks and I'm glad to be a member here, hopefully not just a one-post wonder Keep up the great work guys.

seriously just read some threads and test the ROMS yourself. Nobody is going to care about what you want and find you a ROM to suit your picky list of requests.
everybody has different views on different ROMS, so what people think maybe fast, steady and perfect may not be in your case.
