BUILD YOUR OWN THEME
Ok folks, here it is, a change to make your own theme. As cool as I think I am, I bet you guys have some pretty good ideas for themes so Im making this a cooking thread for your own person recipes.
These are the ingredients I need:
- Build type, RC30 and ADP1 are preferred but I can make RC8 as well
- Icon pack, you can find any group of icons to use in an size, this means application icons, status bar icons, just anything you want but you have to supply it
- Image for the status bar in portrait and landscape.
So ya, I am kinda figuring this out as I go so post what you want made into a theme and I will see what I can do.

This is a pretty cool idea, though I suspect you're gonna get absolutely flooded with requests
If you need files sizes or types let me know or ask and Im sure a bunch of people can answer.
You do know there are requests for themes here.

i dont really have any real ingredients as you put it jus diff icons and use the gucci colors
Well I was hoping it would be more for the people who know exactly what they want and dont know how to put it together than just the people coming up with new ideas. So if you know you you want my carbon fiber status bar, with the silver status icons from Blue Star 5 and defaults icons with one of your own, I could take those things and make a theme out of them in like 30 minutes.
Just close this thread if you would rather me pick it up in the other thread.
What you stated is exactly what i had in mind. Ill pm with my "wishlist and icons" and we can go from there.

I really like your Karbon theme, id like the status bar just grey like deep black, your status icons , and this battery meter. is this possible?

The status icons from Karbon are great, just the batt meter change.

Im building it now, I assume you want RC30 right? And if you can get those icons as PNG files with transparent backgrounds it would be best, if not I can see what I can do.
And just to confirm, the status bar in a dark color will make it so you cant see the text, if thats fine its fine with me.
To respond to Mikey1022, would it also be ok to host them on a site like photobucket and link the pic in the post or would you prefer zip files?

I would just say use your own judgement. If someone will look at the theme and be instantly reminded of another one you pulled from you might want to give a lot of credit to it, but if it was just a platform to start with and its mostly your own creation I would just mention who the theme came from. Just think about it as if it was your theme being used by someone else. Personally its a huge compliment.
you are right perhaps the light grey status bar from macdroid would be better.

I am really contemplating dual booting fedora or mandriva, to better acquaint myself with this stuff.
Ya, I was going to do it with this one but it was way too dark until we can change font colors.

Just for everyone's knowledge, these icons are not my creation. I have collected them over the last year or so from different icon packs mainly downloaded from deviantart. this is mainly a personal theme, that i find appealing for me to look at.

Finally after much beta testing and making sure everything works as it should, I think I finally have a release version. The Auto Browser is enabled but you must remove the Browser.odex before using the browser to keep auto rotate going. To do this open Terminal Emulator and get root access, then type in rm /system/app/Browser.odex Again, I did not design the initial icons, I got the source for the icons from dene at www.superevildesign.com off his deviant art page, originals here: http://skm-industries.deviantart.com/art/CarbonSOURCE-PSD-87588028
who was kind enough to give me permission to use it for my theme.
Looking for ideas on the color of the status bar as well as a default wallpaper. All default icons have been replaced with this theme.

I changed the status bar, added 3 new wallpapers (3 variations of one design) notification date is now white, and changed the menu icons. These changes are only going into the new rc33 version, with the number of changes made, rc33 lite is needed or you'll need to have removed removed the media folder from system already

Icons look cool, i think i a lighter background would look nice.
For the notification bar definatlely something transparent.
yeah the background is one I had downloaded, would love some ideas for what to use as the default. and I like the idea of a transparent status bar with a lighter background, I would also like to make the icons on the music player larger somehow
i like the background, but i think you need to(well, you probably know) change the icons up top in the notifcation bar like battery and whatnot to match the theme.
I LOVE it!!!! Keep it up and release it!!!!! Please make sure that browser icon worksa for both reg browser and auto-rotate version from Koush. I've heard that it can be a problem somtimes. Overall it looks great. Can't wait to see it released.

Yeah, I use the auto rotate browser so it will be included in the release version for sure
You did a great job on the (dare I say) iphone-ish icons. It's too bad we can't make a truly transparent taskbar because this would look excellent with one.

dang that was fast! Not all the icons are ready yet, I needed it put into a theme to test out my apk files so I can see if anyone else was having the same issues I am. Anyone who tries this let me know if it causes problems with your phone receiving calls.

Thanks, can't wait to see what you come up with. wallpapers are my weak point I guess lol. When I first started with the icons I had a wooden one on there but it just didn't flow

looking for some opinions on icons
here are some icons I have been making started out with blackberry bold icons but started to make icons so here are the ones I made some still are like the blackberry bold but made them more brighter looking for some ideas and good opinions but not to go to far from the design

i like simple and clean and i have adobe photoshop elements i had for a good 10 years and i use paint.net and gimp but the icons i did in photoshop i have a hard time going to a new photoshop

Love em. You need to make a theme using these. Preferably a completely dark theme so that the icons stand out a lot.
I like dark backgrounds and I have started a theme I hope to have it out by Saturday.so far I have gutting good replies but my concerns are which my faves icon do you think I should use and do you think the settings looks ok the way it is or do you think the gear needs to be bigger or I was thinking no gear and add a wrench. oh decisions ineed to make up for my stargate theme lol
I like the myFaves icon with the people, but I don't use myFaves at all so my opinion on that doesn't really matter xD
Which icon is the Settings one? The one that looks like a Toolbox? I think that you should make the icon for that either a wrench or gears, but honestly the toolbox will be good enough to identify it since there would be text underneath each icon.

Changing Market app icons?
Does any one know if you need to do anything special to repackage a market app icon? I tried changing an icon for cinema player and signed it with the test keys and it wont install. it says it installed but it isn't.

The market icon is in vending.apk

I don't mean the market app, I mean apps from the market like cinema or shopsavy for example.
i get same error. I can change any of the app icons in the update.zip but when i extract an app with astro and update and sign, it wont install. I even tried the desktop install tool. No luck.
Someone correct me if i'm wrong but wouldn't you need access to that developers source code to do this.
Making this theme that i thought was pretty cool. started off with the background and everything else sort of fell in place as i went along Suggestions are welcomed. any help is good help. forgot to release . i think it still needs work hopefully will finish when not too busy

not suppose to be bold going to fix the icons again some are wider or smaller then others. Im doing them on photoshop cs3. Finish up the icons tomorrow so i can mov to other things. Lol impossible to make statusbar trans. I made it to blend with background to seem transparent
try switching the button colors make it mostly white with the squarish part white and the inside blaq that wud b awsome

lol i know i was hoping you'd be our Miracle or something and figure out how to do it
the status bar is not transparent. Its a mockup of a transparent notification bar by taking the top portion of the picture and laying it over with a glass finish and then using that as the stus bar. If you do it right and line it up perfectly it will look perfect

making the statusbar transparent is easy, it's just impossible to make the background go all the way up to the top of the screen behind it, so all you see is a black space at the top.

it looks freaking awesome, but being the critic i am, and after using fade to blue wich damnitpud still deems imperfect, i have a few minor suggestions.
resize the image you used for the wallpaper to make it a little taller, and then litterally cut the top few pixels to be used as the status bar, don't feel like cracking open my theme right now to see how big the status par png is but you know what i am talking about i'm sure, that way rather than the image getting more and more off as you go left or right of the center it would look a little cleaner.
also either the status bar backgound image is a little offcenter or the wallpaper is, i am not sure but the center line does not line up in your mockup.
and keep in mind that even if you pefect the status bar to line up with the wallpaper it will only be lined up on the center desktop and not the others.

i like the wallpaper being split in two because when you go to the left or right desktop it will only show the peace side or the war side, kinda cool. but just make sure the pic is lined up perfectly center.

Sorry if I'm being spamy. I would like to make few sujestions. I would like to the line on the wall papers gone... idk it just bugs me and also the batteery icon should be the color og green material it blends in a bit to much. Oh maybe put a hint of red from the summoning material. But even if u don't make these changes I still love ur theme

It doesn't work on JFv1.42, freeze on T-Mobile G1 Screen, that's my experience.
It works on jf. Rc33 lite. I'm runing it right now promise. Also if the dev reads reds this battery color is slighty off center.
it works on lite or regualar, if u removed the stock tones and notifications....i know the color is slightly off, only my second theme, so i am slowing down now and taking my time making them, i was over excited finally being able to make them....
I was just given u a feed little back. If this is only your second theme than I can't wait for your third. U are very good at this. This is an art and one in my opion you are very good at. Sorry if it came off like I was putting down your work. Take all the time you need to make this theme even better than it allready is.

This is for those with a 32A phone and is the Amon_RA 1.0.1H rom.
I hope i have done it justice porting it. I have added a couple of my own preferences and will be adding more. It is a VERY works in progress.... a very quick port. Statusbar is now black. havent updated other shots.
This is template size so you can easily update it.
Theme includes latest launcher from Cyanogen with 5 home screens and extra apps in drawer.
I have also attached a matching dxtop theme if anyone is interested.
If you like it donate to manup456. He worked hard on this and deserves the full praise for it.

To be absolutely honest with you; I think it looks horrific.

Don't worry, I won't use it. Disliking this theme doesn't mean I dislike everything he did. One should be able to recieve both positive and negative feedback. A solution to make this look more attractive would be disabling jpeg compression in your preview screenshots. Jpeg makes everything look horrible and blurred, especially hard reds, blues and greens. I'd start with enhancing that. Furthermode I'd not downsize the previews because that blurs the whole thing as well.
To state I didn't just suck the feedback out of my thumb:
You can barely read the battery status (looks like he modified the battery I did for my own theme).
The color for the background behind the time doesn't fit the other colors.
On the first screenshot you/he used 4-5 teints of blue... it's overly blue.
yeah i see your point.... didnt even look at the pics myself.... sorry about that... just stuck them straight in from what screenshot app took....
as for the blues- i see what you mean- never really looked at it that closely.....i did do the clock bgd colour though- with the same blue it was too dark to read clock properly and i was unable to edit services.jar to make it any other colour....tbh i think i prefer the different blues....is that an issue having too many blues? I am in medical field, not graphics....
i changed the battery on the black one so i could see it properly....good point.... i must have noticed that too.... or maybe it was coincidence i changed it.....
i prefer hero myself but occasionally i will try this- a bit dark for my likings though.....
thx for the feedback though- when i make one myself from scratch maybe i will get you to look over it- seems you have better eyes than me..... i really dont look that closely at it....

Maybe my critique was a little harsh, sorry about that
Too many teints of the same color can cause disharmony and the black and blue combination isn't the best there is... I mean, there is no variation in this theme. It's all black with a bit of blue...
To get you started: The blue you applied behind the clock is more purple than blue, try changing it to a more contrastive color like an almost white, and definately don't use harsh rectangles in a round shaped UI like Android Instead use rounder shapes, try Photoshop's rounded rectangle tool with a nice r. One of the things I do like about the theme is the "Android" text on drawn down statusbar in the 4st screenshot but it seems not to be entirely centered.

if you have Amon_RA's new recovery- 1.2.0H then you just stick the zip file on sd card, then go to recovery and select "Apply sdcard:choose zip". Select the one you want and off it goes.
if you don't have it, get it. In the mean time rename to update.zip and install via recovery as per normal rom flash.
