Skinning of Android

Hi folks
I am thinking about skinning the Android, and I am starting to understand how to do it as we speak
I have discovered the correct files, and the only problem I am having at the moment, is lack of creativity >.<
Does anyone have bright ideas on how it should be?

Quite like the original skin with Android. The 3 screens allows me to add anycuts to the apps grouped by personal stuff, daily apps and then browser/net stuff.

Skin ideas
Look for the thread that talks about the G2... some interesting pictures there.

Basically the only things I can to currently to get it to look a like the mockups, is to change the icons to be more shiny.

Think I'll pass on this one.
I don't like the design on the X360 dash.
Perhaps the Wii though, I'll have to check it out when I get my Wii

I think it would be cool to have three tabs at the bottom for file shortcuts.
That way instead of having to put custom folders on the desktop one could just swipe up one of the three tabs.
Granted you can store many shortcuts on the side desktop screens. But, I like the swipe motion from the bottom better.
Also, I would love to see some different color themes. Maybe reverse the black/white of the window shade and made the app slider a darker grey.

What about making the icons transparent; like the blackberry storm.

please dont copy the iphone or xbox or whatever..i mean the color schemes are alright
but just make something pure eyecandy please..show us your creativity!!!

I'll have to pass on this one for the moment.
I haven't read so much in the Android Documentation yet, but my logic senses that this is some pretty heavy modding of both the graphics and the .xml files that control how things are setup.

This could be possible without any big fuss.
Transparent icons when inactive, and if pressed they become opaque.

I will try to sketch something while at school, and we'll see how it goes
Perhaps I will start something simple, such as just changing the icons and some of the buttons with some other icons. Just to get a grip of it

you know, something black and shiny like the diamond interface always looks cool
black, dark grey will always be slick..look at HTC Manilla interface for good examples..
let me kow if you need any photoshop help...i am good with the pixels (or so i think ) not with scripting though

Something with a wireframe / Tron / Neon look to it, with icons that look like japanese writing, but really have english text.

Yeah, I like black but I prefer dull black, especially since I have the Black G1 ^^
Some Photoshop help would've been great
A starter could've been just to make the standard android a lot darker, just to familiarise with how we can edit the settings
Will start on Tuesday probably, my girlfriend is visiting me from Norway, so I'll probably have other stuff to do this weekend

This will require root yes, as the only way I know of is to replace the files in question in the modified RC8 or RC30 image from JesusFreke.

the source is online you can get them from the git repo

unfortunately my mac os x is using non case sensitive file system so i cant git with android (adobe cs4 wants noncase sensitive for some reason...hmmm)...and my other computer is a windows box
can somebody help me out here? It'd be appreciated

hey guys... me and I3v5y
have been working on a ui for gaming on the HD... here is our template.... but as i do not have my HD with me nor does he... we need to find out how it works....
please post a screen shot and report problems.... the faster you do so the quicker we can get this project done....

no screenshots (you're asking us to post some, yet you're the developer)
a .exe (which to my knowledge wont work on mobile phones, i dont have a WM-powered mobile phone but i've read that install files are in .cab)
6 posts makes you think you're new and therefore many ppl won't download it and trust you.
so either its a virus and the-like or its real but you provided almost nothing that makes us think its 'real'.

so can someone give me a report on how it runs on the device???? and a screenshot?

The app runs smoothly on my HD (IT ram 1.14): see screenshot attached.
hey, apart the game: what about making it as a launcher too (as touchlaunch or M2DAppLauncher? it seems perfect! and those apps seems to be dead...

I tried your game and till now it works very well. The touchscreen reaction is very good. But on the top in the left corner of the slider is one litle blue line. I marked this with a red square on the second sreenshot.

ok i got demo 2 up and running,
let's say im at the home icon and want to go to stock. when i click on stock it shows the home icon. the sliding bar at the bottom wont go where my thumb is. it does follow the movement if i slide it over the screen (i hope you get what i mean)
also ermm the first time when im on a new screen it shows the icon for a very short time when i press the screen.

please post a screenshot i don't understand....

yes at the moment it is made for sliding use only.... so you willl have to drag the slider from tab to tab.....
Maybe you will see an actual game release tommarow... nothing advanced... maybe a tick tac toe game....
but I will get the helicopter game finished

ahh cool, when i release my finger it does go to that spot so it does work like that the slider is just not sticking to my finger on the spot i press the screen. can't wait to see a game on this it runs smootly

OK well the idea is to create games and applications that keep the manila style look....
so if you want to get to the settings portion of a game... you have the tf3d thing at the bottom of every app and game....

first of all, fantastic work. i have a couple questions.
1, is it possible to get this to use the manila resources so whatever theme we're using is also used by the game?
2, how hard would it be to port across a few emulators into this? while things like morphgear work fine, the are hardly finger friendly. i'm thinking running game on the first tab, list of roms on the second, maybe in the style of contacts or music player so case pictures can be added. and then settings on the third tabs. that sort of thing anyway. how feasable is that?
i'm personally of the opinion that the more things that have a unified look the better so i think what you're doing is great.

no, just find of get an idea and wing it actually. for this one I just took screenshots of vista and doctored them in photoshop

if you could change this start button to more like Vista one.

This theme made me switch from TouchFlo3D to WAD2. I did some corrections to better suit my needs. For example startmenu panel wasn't fading out when certain icons were tapped.
I managed to redirect messaging icon into sms/mms folder instead of main messaging screen but I have a problem with other icon. You designed My computer icon to open file explorer. I would like it to open programs directory just like windows start menu->programs link does. I can open /windows/start menu/programs in fexplorer by passing path as a parameter but it's not how I would like it to be. Do you know what command should be issued to achieve that? I googled for answer and searched xda forums but without any results. Something tells me it has something to do with shell32.exe but I'm a noob in WM world and I don't even know where to start.

Don't make the "my computer" change you desire more complex then it has to be Just go into author mode, delete the my computer icon. Next just click and hold where the icon used to be and select new>shortcut Navigate to the folder you wan to open. Select the button images you want (note my computer icon is in the \storage card\WAD_Icons\MALLMAN\Mallman_vista folder) You can select both images to be the same if you want or make it different on a press. THat should work for you

bug fix coming today guys. Hold out on installing this for a few until I post it.
Bugs:
1. launching windows media player from start menu closes the sidebar and it should be fading the start menu.
2. Launching My Computer from start menu doesnt hide the start menu
3. Launching Camera from start menu doesnt hide the start menu
4. Launching control panel from start menu doesnt hide the start menu

I tried to make a theme with the background I attached but I just massively fail at WAD.

Solution you suggested gave me the same results as opening fexplorer.exe with path to folder parameter but your way is more elegant, thanks . Nevertheless I treat it as a temporary solution. If I find out how to create link like start->programs has I'll share with it of course.
Speaking of bugs let me add one more:
Hiding startmenu panel doesn't hide shutdownmenu panel.

Yes I noticed that as well when I was adding some sounds to the theme. I will put another version out soon with sounds and that fix. thank you for your testing!!!

[THEME] Blackberry Storm for WAD2 by Mallman

First of all special thanks to the guys at Lakeridge Software forums for getting all the icons rounded up and laying the foundation for this. Also, this isn't an exact mock up because I personally think the storm clutters too many screens with the same icons over and over. If you want to change it then have at it

all i did was pretty much put my twist on his with some resizing of things and such.Shoot I say you build your own as well bro. Mine isnt purely Blackberry Storm, it is blackberry storm by mallman I don't like all of the BB out of the box so if you were going to make and exact duplicate then by all means continue your work.

yeah nothing touches WAD2 as far as the limitless customizations. I can honestly say that your imagination is the only limitation. And please do publish your BB themes for us. You may spark more ideas in my head Good luck on your tax returns. Im getting a CPA this year which is ironic since I work for INtuit (the company that makes TurboTax) and file for free. lol.

MALLMAN, loving the theme, like i mentioned over on swampthing. Since there is not alot of commenting on your forum, I decided to ask this here. Would anyone know where to find the icons for this theme? I know there are various icon packs around the forum, but i cannot find any that would go good with this theme.

If you're looking for he phone one then I have bad news There isnt one int he pack. i have tons of icons for this. Here are the ones I made so you can use them and link it in.
I have ported these in like you and I talked about, i also changed the weather icon to be much more attractive. Attached those too if youre interested. I have also added a couple of notifiers for missed calls (it is positioned the phone button on a transparent icon and an appointment notifier positioned behind the calendar icon. Finally, I have cleared out the calendar icon on the front so it always displays the current day of the month.
ANd yeah, there will never be conversation on swampthing like there is here lol. I couldn't afford the bandwidth if there were.

I have updated this by making a phone icon and updating the weather icon as well as tweaking the weather page a little.

Hi Mallman
i have installed into my HTC HD your "HTC Mallmans_15_Tab_Windows_Icons" and now when I start the system exit a lot of pop-up with "Failed to load skin".
I don't use TouchFlow3d, I use simply Today with many plugin.
Where is the problem into registry ? Where can I look ?

It looks very nice but requires paypal to download the theme!

I noticed ted's hero theme and drizzys hero rom use a different gmail icon. Unfortunately it still doesnt blend well in my opinion. But could someone combine the current MAIL icon with ted and drizzy's gmail icon?!?!!
Basically the mail icon mailbox with the gmail envelope hanging out of the mailbox a little bit?

the icon space may not allow for that and remain the same size as the other hero icons though. so maybe just the google G on the rightmost side of the mailbox as a secondary idea?

I really have no idea what im doing lol. I JUST downloaded gimp not too long ago and im learning as i go. I figured out just enough of it to do those images. Im sure somebody with real skills could make a better 1. Like 1 with an actual opened door on it instead of just erasing that part of the mailbox lol. My imaginations way bigger than my skills r with that program but ill keep trying. Glad you like it tho!

the actual mailbox hasnt been modded except to create a open look for the envelope because i wanted it as close 2 the mail icon as possible but i can try it...that shouldnt b hard! lol (still learnin where things r and how 2 use em)

Why not make a widget, like handcent sms uses one ?
An icon with a number in it, so you can see haw many new mails you have.
I think hero has this also ?
