Hi,
I raised this question in another thread in this forum, but I think this deserves it's own thread, particularly for new users seeking a SIP for the Touch HD.
Could you please list other Keyboard / SIP's you are using with are WVGA compatible and support a DPAD ?
It's something I'm really struggling to find and I'm surprised there aren't any threads on it in this forum. I assume most of you are using the HTC standard one, but it would be good to hear recommendations (and perhaps your personalised skins) of other SIPs out there.
Thanks
Dark Knight
The fundamental problem here with SIP based DPads is that the phone isnt multi-touch so you cant do Up & Left at the same time for example. I am working on a G-Sensor based solution (see Virtual DPad thread) which works for some apps/games.
I can appreciate there may be a few applications that function better with multitouch with a DPAD. And it's probbably a standard need on games.
But how about just plain ole' Up/Down/Left/Right in an App.
Are there no other alternative SIP's out there ?
Touchpal have a virtual dpad and for my taste the best sip for Touch HD.

Hi DK, the app I use most frequently is Excel, so I wanted the same as you: a simple SIP with 4-way direction keys to navigate between cells. I tried all the keyboards out there and settled on Resco Keyboard Pro because it's skinnable. Link below has dozens of skins but I made my own in a couple of hours (based on ZoomBoard which is also pretty good) adding the arrow keys for Excel and my most frequently used punctuation for sms:

looks really great. can you post a link? because i can't find it on the resco-site.
Any chance you could place a cab of your skin? That's the best skin I've seen so far for the resco keyboard pro! I would love to have it!
Gotta say, since the recommendation in this thread, I've been loving TouchPal. It's very slick, looks very Manilla and supports additional functions with gestures (e.g. Press and Hold vs. Press and Drag Left / Right/ Up / Down).
However, my wifey was used to my old PocketCM keyboard, so I still want to use this SIP.
I've found that the standard PCM Keyboard in v0.21 scales well for WVGA. I'm seeking better skins for it though..

i too would be grateful if you could share your skin. i like resco, but need the virtual dpad.
I agree
no one wants to comment on the hd keyboard. I posted two replies on dutty's ROM series and one on Laurentius's thread. I just wanted to get a screen shot or some information on the keyboard. You know, one thing I saw is that Laurentius had a guy custom make EZinput in WVGA specifically for his ROM and they are not releasing to anyone I don't guess. But, I installed his ROM and didn't see any kind of good keyboard on it. I did see a blue "keyboard" but it sure wasn't wvga. Has anyone else installed either of these ROMs and experience something else? I really don't like the placement of the space bar in the landscape keyboard, otherwise i like the stock keyboard, i feel like the landscape keyboard could use the space a little better by placing the directional buttons on the bottom 4th row along with a newly placed space bar. I have tried PocketCM .14 with this skin I found. I think its for vga because it doesn't look too good and doesn't fill up the whole screen, its also grainy and doesn't have a dot on the keyboard, that is a very highly used button when you are using opera or txt, email or anything really. Ill post a screen shot of the landscape.
Guys,
I've been in conversation (over PM) with HTC Toucher. Hopefully, you'll be familiar with his many excellent Keyboard Designs.
I'm hoping he'll be able to develop something for PCM Keyboard v0.21+ in for the Touch HD (this version seems to have better support for WVGA).
I've pointed him to this thread and just hope he'll be able to develop something for us.
If a skin is released that skin is released that supports the Touch HD come out, please think about his efforts to do this just for us (he doesn't have a WVGA device) and consider donating to him.
Finger crossed!
Cheers,
Dark Knight
Thanks for this one! just downloaded and will test it hard core
updated
I found out that this pocketcm keybord and skin i found actually does have a way to use commas and periods from the main screen u just tap and hold the symbol buttons for a few of the most used symbols. although it doesnt have d pads, the ezinput does, I found out that the ezinput keyboard was the stock keyboard that I spoke of before. It does have dpads on both portrait and landscape. and its availble with most roms dutty and laurentius.
@blacksage - Could you post your skin here ?
I've messed around with the layout with 0.14 from yesteryear and I'm sure it would be possible to add DPAD to unused keys.
ive got a few things here
Ive attached the keyboard cab that I am using which is version .14, Ive tried the newer ones and I didn't get them to work nearly as well. I also attached a zip file containing three files. Two of them are .skin files to be placed in the program files/pcmkeyboard folder and the other one is a layout file that you should also put into the same folder program files/pcmkeyboard. You can try both skins with the standard default layout or change the layout from english to "eng most used" or something like that in pcm keyboard settings. I think I like them but, like you said you might be able to use that side space that is the difference between vga and wvga I believe. The main thing I like about it, is that the space bar is in the proper location. I think it could also use a little less vertical spacing to free up screen space in landscape. The alternate layout gives a period and comma on the main screen, I like that configuration better, but don't like the way that one sort of changes the layout of the keyboard in steps. Also I posted a screen shot of the landscape keyboard I had with Ezinput, just to make sure you have seen it. It has dpads in both portrait and landscape, kind of sounds like what everybody is after, just not me. I think it came stock with mine and also available with at least laurentius's ROM and maybe dutty's. Its nice for some, just not good for speed typists like me, lol. Also, I was thinking, you know the space that the pcm keyboard leaves out on the sides?, I'm not so sure that it would make a good place for standard typing keys, because of the weird stretch that you have to sort of do to get the the very edge of the touch screen while holding the device in landscape; sort of look at it and tell me what you guys think. I'm sure it would make a great place for dpads and other cool buttons! Let me know what you like and dislike and what you plan to do about it!

What, the link is down?
Did it get xda'd? lol
Been using it for a few weeks.. Skinable and very easy to type with. In fact you can just slide your finger around and let go when you see the key you are looking for highlited..
Another thing you should look into is PocketCM...

CONTACTS replacement!!! I like this even more then their keyboard solution.. Imagine the iPhone contacts slide you see everywhere, and you have pocketCM. One of the best features is the A-Z on the left side to quick jump.

How do you install this on hermes w/WM6? When I go into settings / input and change to PCM keyboard it says " Pocket CM keyboard has to be the current sip in order to configure it? what do I do?
Just click the little triangle beside your keyboard icon (bottom middle of bar) and select PCM Keyboard. That should do it...
i have been using the pocket CM k/b since yesterday and ts a quantum leap forward from any other k/b that is available. Its a must have for any Windows mobile user. It works on all PPC phones!
There is also a contact manager from the same author. You can use your fingers to scroll through and select contacts. I use that as well. It works great! It is called pocketCM. URL: http://www.pocketcm.com/index.php
I've installed it and it shows up in the list of available input devices but selecting it does nothing at all. The keyboard doesn't change visually onscreen and if I check the current input device it still shows the standard keyboard.
I can go into it's options and play around with things but if I change the Input Method to PCM Keyboard and click OK, it still doesn't switch over.
Running Schap's WM6 Pro 3.60a ROM.
Tried soft resets, tried installing to main memory and to storage.
Running 0.6 version.

What a bummer.
Too bad the Hermes doesn't have either a slide out keyboard, Block Recognizer, Letter Recognizer or Transcriber.

I don't think sarcasm is called for; this looks like a neat keyboard that works better than the stock one for those times that you dont want to slide out or use the stylus.

Strange, I installed it on my 8525 (see sig for ROM info), and it worked fine. Of course my fat fingers don't let me use it all too well... But then again, I have the same problems with an iPhone and even the slide-out keyboard on the Hermes. I actually find the Letter Recognizer to work quite well for me, but it's a matter of personal preference (I was a big fan of Graffiti on the Palm, but Graffiti 2 was abysmal.)

Is there anyway to make this the default keyboard? When i reset my phone, it goes back to the standard keyboard
I'm in love with this keyboard! I had downloaded and installed the first version a couple weeks ago and liked it enough to use occaisonally. I felt like it had great potential and just needed a little polishing. But this new version, .6, is awesome! Perfect. I'm gonna use it all the time except when typing sms with the palm threaded app. I'll slide out the hardware keyboard on my hermes for that.
As soon as someone fixes the palm threaded app so that the SIP keyboard doesn't cover up the text you're inputting, I'll use this new PCMkeyboard there, too. And I'll send a hefty donation to that person that fixes the palm app.
donation on the way to this PCM guy, too.
Does anyone know if this keyboard supports other languages' input methods?
Under the options, there's a select box for "Keyboard layout" which includes:
Czech
English
Francais
German
Polish
Russian
Spanish
INTRO
I've started this thread to port the EzInput Keyboard to QVGA resolution. The keyboard is now fully functional yet still has a couple of small glitches to be fixed in portrait mode.
I am doing all the testing on my elfin, so I cannot assure that it will work on other devices so you'll have to test it yourselves!

KNOWN BUGS
XT9 is not currently working: the keyboard seems to get the coordinates (size and position) of the VGA keys. E.g.: if you press "q", "a" or "w" the keyboard will write "q" on the screen, since the three letters are in the area of the "q" key in a VGA screen (double size).
Any help on this matter would be really appreciated!!!
XT9 UPDATE 05/01/2009:
I´ve managed to get XT9 working by replacing the xT9ime.dll of the EzInput 2 with the EzInput 1.5 dll supplied with the ROM I am using. The problem now is that I cannot change XT9 mode back to normal mode .
Anyway I encourage you to test this and see if we can get a solution to the XT9 issues.
To test it, just go to the windows directory, rename eT9ime.dll to something else (e.g. eT9ime.dll.OLD) and reset your device (this should restore the dll supplied with your ROM).
I´m waiting for your comments!!!!
VIBRATION/XT9 UPDATE 05/13/2009:
I managed to get vibration to work a couple of weeks ago, but I wanted to fix the T9 mode before releasing a new version.
I´ve been working on T9 and have not been able to find where the code responsible for calculating the key pressed (based on the coordinates) is.
OPTION A: If anyone is able to find such place in the code or just point me in the right direction, I´ll find the time to patch et9Ime.dll so that QVGA users can enjoy T9 in this keyboard.
OPTION B: Another possible option would be to patch the et9Ime.dll from ezinput 1.5, but the mappings of some important keys seem to be different (XT9/ABC switch for example), and also different registry keys need to be updated so that everything works as it should.
Sorry for the lack of feedback, but I need more time for fixing these issues since this is the first time I am dealing with SIP/IME/IMM and stuff and I´ve found it a little bit more complex than I thought it would be.
HOWTO
Additionally, I'm planning on writing a very simple "howto" to explain people what they can do to adjust/fix/change the layout of the keyboard.
PS: I cannot post any screenshot now, so if anyone of you can upload one I'd be grateful.
problem on XT9 mode, maybe is the key mapping, i dunno that
for example type q,w,a,s the result is --> qqqq
type e,r,d ---> www
thanks for your hard working
T9 issue
You're right (i did not test the XT9 )
I'll have a look at it.
Thanks
Nice
Just 2 questions :
- vibrate when keys are pressed : Don t work normal maybe ...
- Is there a way to change language to french? i see 40C file ...
ty
looks great, good to finally have EZInput for QVGA.
major bug I noticed it messes up the keyboard mapping..for example Caps does not function, nor does the light, just flickers on then off when caps is hit, I believe to turn caps on and off (at least for me) I would have to use function, which also works for function (if that makes sense) lol
also the function keys got incorrectly mapped, I will try the tilt keyboard fix, hopefully that will work, and you can post that Cab.
Minor Issue: no SIP image to open the keyboard on the phone. its a black square, hit the square to active SIP. Would be nice to get a cool new icon though ;P
other then that, I will continue to test this, because the spacing between the keys and the skin is very nice
Thanks for your hard work and the post
I installed this new version and the only major thing I see compared to all the rest of the one you have posted is that the SIP Icon for the Keyboard that shows between the softkeys is missing, if you press the empty space the Keyboard still pops up and is functional but the icon is gone.
thanks man. Work great
So I don't have the phone keypad...is this just a problem with me or does anyone else have this problem?
XT9 is off, but that's fine cause I don't find a need for xt9 on a full keyboard anyways. Though like I said in the other thread I wish there was compact qwerty, or at least I could have the compact qwerty from my other keyboard as well.
Thanks a lot! Im at school now, but as soon as I get home, I'll install this on my phone.
- Thanks, your job is really appreciated.
Great !!!
I've been waiting for this for sometime now and just say thanks for the Qvga version Just wondering if anyone is working on the xt9 bug, i have gotten accustom to using that but if not no worries still a great keyboard !!!
Well, this full qwerty is a huge improvement over the EZ-Input one. I installed the keyboard and used the full qwerty without any problems. HOWEVER, does the Compact QWERTY mode not work with this? Thanks.
Thank you man, you are awesome !
I don't have any problems with it, except the reported bug of the SIP Icon.
But the keyboard on my Elf is a bit slow without O/C. (WM 6.5)
I love this keyboard !
XT9 bug
I've been looking at the XML files, the kdb files and the ldb files and I still cannot figure out the place where the XT9 keys size/position (x,y,h,w) is defined.
Does anyone know whether it's hardcoded in a PE module or it can be configured anywhere?
BTW, I'm afraid Compact QWERTY is not possible for the time being...
Sorry if I'm repeating. If I switch to numeric and press a key and then go back to ABC then all the keys are screwed up and when I press them I get the wrong keys. Do others have the same problem?
littld, i'm not experiencing that behaviour, sorry

I have been trying to find this out too, I have looked everywhere and can't find the positions for XT9.
Side note, on all 3 previous versions you could use XT9 in ABC and it worked perfectly, but in the new version it just types normally in ABC and XT9 is still broke.

Yes, all 3 you posted in that thread. If set to XT9 all key mapping was off as I had posted in that thread and others. But ABC worked as XT9 without a problem. It was weird. But I am running the last posted version which I downloaded from sendspace and it works as described above. When I installed the one when you opened this thread also from sendspace XT9 key mapping is still the same, totally off and ABC just functions as it should, regular typing with no text prediction.
Hope that makes sense?

"Move over T9, here comes Swype
Swype works with an on-screen QWERTY keyboard like you have on the tablet version of Windows and on the iPhone. But instead of tapping letters out, you press your finger or stylus on the first letter, then, without lifting it, move it to the remaining letters in the word. When the word is done, then you lift."
Head over to the original thread to download the WVGA version...
Been using this for the past couple of days and I must say it's excellent! Doesn't quite fit correctly on 6.5.x as it overhangs the bottom bar, but doesn't make it unusable. Recommend looking at some of the tutorial videos on the Swype website.
Been using shapewriter for months myself and fairly happy with it, fits HD fine and I find it the quickest way of entering data. Using the stylus it is very accurate (95 - 100%), with my finger, not quite so accurate (50 - 75%) but good enough for a short SMS. Will give Swype a go and compare.

Absolutely love Swype on my HD, now hoping for German layout to follow soon. But with $5 million just received from Nokia and Samsung Swype should get up to speed soon! Android version in the works.
Tut on how to add custom word dic's and user databases in your language of choice: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5127650&postcount=3
Firstly I would like to say I love Swype !
What I have realised is that when sending a SMS with the HTC Messaging interface (6.5 ROM Dutty HG Leo R0), as I type a contact name with the original keyboard I am presented with a like of possible contact matches as I type more letters. Now with Swype, as I type the contact name it now longer presents a list of possible contacts like the original keyboard. Has anyone found a workaround for this problem.
the workaround is to type some letters then backspace one character... the list will then pop up. not sure why this is but at least there's a way.
I've just tried this and must say it is a very nice input method! Thank you for starting this thread and making this excellent software known
Hi,
I want to point out, this small (cab) found a rom for HD2 Laurentius26 (Thanks) link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044596, running on a HD MINI. It allows automatic rotation (landscape). I did tests on the main features of HD MINI, from start menu seems to work well. Obviously does not work perfect on home screen and dialer. is useful to me for example, in the Remove Programs screen.....
As Laurentius26 realized, would be nice to create for HD MINI, a dialer (phone keypad) to insert into a rom cooked .... combined with the cab autorotate.
hi, does it work in the sense? i mean for example in the music tab..does it rotate into landscape same as on hd2?
hi, I tried it now because I did not know if it worked, because I do not use Music tab.
It 'clear that they can not run those programs, which have no skin in the landscape. The CAB autorotate changes the (log system) on the instructions MANILA. I think! but inside 56KB adds nothing !!!!!
In fact, I think, Laurentius26 on ROM FOR HD2 added skins to PHONE DIALER to operate in landscape.
As I have said does not work with all programs in rom: dialer (phone keypad), etc. HOME SCREEN. . MUSIC TAB LANDASCAPE in fact it does not work with BSB Tweaks !!!!!
Do not be hard for something that is given for FREE!
First of all there are already a few threads which specifically discuss about this matter with different apps (Probably around 3).
As mentioned above, the problem does not lies on the AutoRotate app but Manilla itself so unless someone is willing to create HVGA landscape Manilla skin there wont be any landscape Manilla view for our HD Mini.
Considering the low activity of HVGA skin and app development, the chance is slim ....
In fact it is so Ahinigami. I cooked a Rom for hd mini. I'm looking at this work, an application that allows autorotate COMPLETE, to be included in ROM.
(As I said above) I opened this thread with the hope, too, that someone could make a skin for HD MINI laurentis26 as it did, at least for the telephone keypad.
But here it seems only .......... : download and install!
Update
And in fact sometimes life rewards bold .......
I was reminded that long ago I published a thread (TUTORIAL MOBILE MAGIC).
From that folder (attached to the thread) I managed to build a (cab package) and fully functional. I think I continue on this road ....
telephone keypad, is it the usual dialer we're using "cprog"?
If yes, it does support landscape mode ....
I just downloaded the dialer to pack kitchens.
then placed on ROM to HD2. but I just did download.
in the little free time I'm looking for a good rom to join HD mini. Now I'm considering O2_uk
anyway .... and now that I think I can do now a (cab package), if I can send you a private pm
UPDATE:
I understood the potential of HD MINI. I spent a little time,
and I made a special cab for PHOTON. is the dialer pad (telephone keypad) that I said above.
From the first test seems to work fine (I used MOBILE MAGIC) is enclosed SCREENSHOT 2/ 3 / 4. Thanks to Ahinigami to the stimulus.
removed in error
Hi.
Thanks for Auto-rotate
If you create a cab , please upload it ...
If you're planning to cook AutoRotate app into your rom, I suggest using simpler and smaller app specifically just for this purpose.
I've tried the cab you attached in the first post and it was quite buggy (Sense tab is not functioning properly such as alignment) and without any blacklist/whitelist feature.
On the other hand Mobile Magic (Beta) is a rich feature app but comes with larger footprint.
If you've the time, pls do try out ChangeScreen. It has a simple and easy to use interface and smaller footprint.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Btw, if you're planning to include AutoRotate app into your Rom, do you plan to allow just a few selected app such as Shell32 (Start Menu), dialer, and Sense (When possible)?
Some programs are not rotate friendly and will stop working properly once rotated so you should take this into account too.
Hi Ahinigami ,
ChangeScreen I tested (I did not know) but absolutely bad (on my rom). It should immediately crash and lock system. I could not even evaluate the memory usage when this program is resident in memory.
However, I'm working on another program, and I am considering just the memory used, depending on the version used the same program. In fact, the features that I want to achieve are: the fluidity of the graphics, speed, low memory but also the workers!
For the delay on the dialer cab I apologize! Patience!
But I do not eat with it! I do this for a hobby ...... but I also have my job!
For tonight than upload a new thread in the dialer pad and the cab to rotate + tutorial. Afternoon do the last test and upload!!!
I see, take your time .... Having a new developer for HD Mini is a good news itself for me.
There is nothing I can do for you but I could at least help you to try out your new app and rom when released.
Ahinigami Thanks!
is a pleasure for me to be of help! Experience together!

I hope good news .... for you ..... for you all.
Hola, great work you´re doing here
I´ve been comparing the Mini and the HD2 for a while now, and even though I´ve also achieved to rotate (force rotation) Manila/Sense, it´s not ported to landscape yet (7c60907d_manila, 22e41977_manila, 14394200_manila) and has never been. The fact is that we should have to decompile and mode some of the manila core files for it, assigning in those files the corresponding positions for the elements...
Now, if all you want to do is to be able to rotate everything else, that´s easier since a few reg entries will do that for quite some apps (see L26 rotation cab) OR by using a very simple and powerfull app like xHook or xtask. I use it on both my Mini and HD2 (yep, with Laurentius beta ROMs) and I can rotate "on demand" everything (except sense) by simply assigning the winflag softkey to the rotation of 270 degrees within xtask
Hi BHS_ Interceptor,
Thank you very much.
You gave some very interesting news!
I think it is the right way, ......
In fact that's what I'm trying to implement. From your suggestions, I will try to work .... because I want to get the final result that you wrote above. Well.

Hola Oregon, glad my post was useful. If there is anything else I can do, just let me know.
Btw, if you simply use the reg keys and also enable autorotate, the behaviour on the Mini will not suffer except on Sense. You would have to add a lot of exe´s to the white list and after installing new apps, some of this would have/need to be added as weel. Using xTask/xHook, you don´t have to worry about white list nor anything else, even about registry, since it rotates on demand what ever and when ever you press the set Key. You can also assign another key for it, but I like the win flag since we already have another one right below the softkey. If you replace the winfla icon with a "rotate" icon" then all looks perfect as well
Btw, on my HD2 (I´m also a member in Laurentius Platinum Beta team) I have assigned the button through the "build in" taskmanager Leo is using for the ROM...
Hi,
I know this is a topic that has already been talked about a lot, but after going through many pages in different threads and a lot of experimenting, I still haven't found a complete solution.
I am using a Tilt 2 using a Titanium Energy ROM and am looking for a solution for Hebrew input. I have tried 3 cabs so far: HD2_HebrewEnabled_v1.2", "HebrewHD2", and "Uniscribe".
I have discovered that some apps work better with Hebrew then others. Word, OneNote, Phatnotes, etc. have a cursor problem with all three cabs (the cursor stays to the right, and after typing has a "mirror" effect and if you try to place it in a sentence to select text or edit, it will not actually insert or select there but at a different point). Notepad and PhatPad do not have this cursor problem.
The first 2 cabs have a problem with mixed text (heb & eng) in Word, etc. Uniscribe has a problem always putting punctuation to the right even in Notepad (the first two cabs are fine with this in all apps).
Has anyone found a cab that solves all?
Thanks
UPDATE!
After doing more searching, I found another cab at this thread "forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=554802" called simply "Hebrew.cab" and it is actually better then the other 3 I had tried. It allows mixed text and does fine with punctuation, the only remaining problem is the cursor in Word, etc.
I also wanted to detail some other things I came up with in my research. To get Hebrew on the hard keyboard I am using AEk mapper. A while back I found a layout provided by a generous member (OSM or rbroudo?) and I made up my own phonetic layout, bec I found using stickers very impractical. I found that I could also set a different shortcut to the Home key, w/o interfering with AEK.
Acrobat Reader 2.0 works well with Hebrew and has a rich feature set, you just have to reverse your input when entering a search term.
Ulrich Grieve has a Hebrew Reader for viewing Palm text files.
I found an epub reader called "Freda" which also works with html that works with Hebrew. I found (on html at least) that the settings that worked are "Force Line Direction = RTL", "Force Word Direction = LTR" (I also set encoding to utf8 but don't know if that is necessary).
Perhaps this will be useful for you (if it's been updated for 6.1/6.5):

Thanks for the response
I checked the website and highest listed is 6.0 In any case my experience with that software in the past wasn't so great and I am looking for a free solution.
All in all, despite a few quirks, I am pretty happy with the Hebrew situation now. WP7 doesn't support Hebrew at all. Symbian doesn't have anywhere near all the options I mentioned in post #2, not does Maemo on the n900.
Does anyone know how well Android is doing?
Hebrew for Touch pro 2
Hi
I'm a newbe i would like to be able to read and write Hebrew for Touch pro 2
(not change any menu)
What files do i need to install (can you post a link)
(I tried installing Hebrew support only.cab file from the_dude
I get hebrew words but not RTL)
Which ROM are you using?
I found the attached .cab file to work very well with the "Energy" ROM (I use the Titanium with enhanced Mobile Shell), I don't know if it works as well with the stock ROM.
(see my earlier post #2 for more tips)
If it doesn't work well I could give you other links
