I wiped and reloaded my dash with RW 6.1 and synced my contacts from Dashwire. Strangely however, none of my contacts show up in the contacts list, but if I start typing a name the names come up. Also, when people call they are recognized. So where did my contacts go??
sounds like they are on the sim card and are hidden. Try this, go to Start>Settings>Phone>Call Options and see if the "Show SIM contacts" is checked.
If the above doesn't Solve your problems. You should of had backed up all your Contacts before doing the update.
Thanks for the quick responses.
gospeed, the "show sim contact" option is selected.
axiomkid, backing up is not the issue. 1. they are backed up on dashwire and 2. they are outlook contacts. the problem is not losing my contacts...its finding them on my phone.
Edit: I also just checked the 'Contacts Information' in the Sim Manager and see that I have 357 contacts. The SIM capability says 0/0. Hope that helps a bit more.
wow, that is strange! although I have never used that software I dont know where they could be "hiding"!
Any other solutions to the "hidden" contacts that do exist on my phone?
I somehow missed that we were talking about Outlook contacts, so my bad on the sim part...I use Outlook to sync my contacts so I am not sure about where they could go using alternative software- but have you tried to sync with Outlook to see if they somehow appear? Its about all I got! Wish I could help
I guess it will help if I gave the whole scenario. After reinstalling 6.1 I synced my contacts from Dashwire to the phone. Everything was fine. I then setup my Outlook email and did a sync and the contacts were duplicated. I could not find any solution to delete ALL contacts. So I d/l Jeyo Companion and deleted all of the contacts from the phone. I then synced again from Dashwire to test and now I am sitting with this current problem. I have been trying to delete my outlook account and start over, but I could not (disabled).
Hope this clears some things up. I am going to try and delete my outlook on the phone and see what happens.

Just updated to Black 1.2 earlier today. I've read some threads on the activesync issues with contacts syncing, but my issue seems a little different. When I sync my contacts only 4 of the 176 contacts in outlook sync. The 4 that do sync I think are the last ones that I put in my phone before upgrading to WM6. Is there something that I need to do in outlook to get the rest of the contacts to sync with the new database? Any help would be great. Thank you in advance.
I had to sync 3-4 times before all my contacts made it to my 8525. I have 450 contacts synced through MS Direct Push.
Jim
Ya I have synced it many times, tried reflashing the rom, tried other WM6 roms, hard reset and still nothing. On activesync it shows its going to sync all of the contacts but then quickly finishes and only the 4 same contacts every get synced.
Sounds like you M$ Outlook contact db is hosed. I had this happen last year. What I did was create a new contact DB in outlook. copy ovey all of my contacts. Then delete them out of the original db. Then copy them back. Worked for me.
Gave that a try and didn't seem to work, I just created another contacts folder moved all of them into it and deleted them out of the main folder then synced. (removed all contacts from phone, the 4 of them that is) Moved my contacts back into the main folder and synced again and still only those 4 contacts would sync, but I do think it had something to do with a corrupted db because any new contact I add gets synced and works, i just need to find a way to fix all my current contacts without having to reenter all of them. Thank you for your help!!!
I am using XDA 0.2 and is having no issues with contact sync - USB and Exchange. Even "Business contact Manager" for Outlook i working like a charm.
(Its a small CRM addon for Outlook -and the cool part is that it gives you an overview of all your email history - including mails - that you have with the contacts...NICE when using the phone for business)
Well - had nothing to do with your problem, just wanted to add a statement on BCM
I ended up fixing my problem the hard way by reentering all my contacts on outlook which would then sync with WM6 perfectly. Really wished just one of about 9 different methods i tried at recreating my contact db without manually entering them would of worked. Hopefully I wont have to do that again
Hi guys,
I followed a guide on here... connected then deleted all the emails off my phone etc..
But now I have no contact on msn / hotmail on my pc or my phone?!?!?!
AWESOME.
Anyway to get them back?
Thanks.
MSN Live contacts disappear.
Hi,
So sorry for this, it's has happened to me, it usually occurs when you connect your phone to PC and Sync, and by default ActiveSync is set to 'Export' so if your Outlook has no contacts, that means it exports an empty Contacts DB to your phone, in other words it deletes all your contacts off your phone, then when you connect to Windows Live and sync your contacts, again, that will further export an empty DB from your phone's contacts to your Hotmail contacts DB, which will further delete your contacts off that and that will result in losing your MSN contacts. I had to manually re-create all my contacts, it's so annoying, in the future always create a CSV file of your contacts as a backup, also the same on your phone, use a little freeware called PPC PIM Backup, to backup your contacts. To conclude you lost your contacts for good and you just need to start inputting manually, but be aware of the above in the future.
Regards,
I used my "ALLOW" list to restore the contacts...
good luck.
Been there, done that
Yep. Happened to me too. Luckily Adium had a backup of all my contacts so it asked if I wanted to add them all when I launched it after Live Messenger messed things up.
Hi, After using gmail to sync al contacts, calendars & mail & getting fed up with the way google handles contacts, I decided to untick "contacts sync" from googlemail on the phone, then hooked phone up to pc & sync'ed calendar & contacts. In doing so, I have somehow & very stupidly removed ALL my outlook contacts...I can get to my googlemail contacts but outlook is now empty of contacts...please tell me there's a way to get them back from somewhere! Thanks very much
Check the Outlook trashcan.
lol...what a doozy. In the mad flap I was in just didn't think straight. Thanks very much indeed for that. Is there a way I can stop this happening again? I only want Outlook contacts on the phone but happy to sync email & calendar with my gmail account. Cheers again, appreciate your help.
I also decided to remove all sync'ing from my google account- if you have done the same, then you shouldn't have that issue again.
Just to be on the safe side, now that you have your contacts back in Outlook, I'd suggest creating a back up of it (perhaps regularly), to a PST file or similar. Might to be wise to use an app to backup contacts/calender entries directly from the phone- Wave Secure as an example.
Cheers for that, outlook contacts backed up yesterday straight after restoring them back! Appreciate the advice though sh500
Just a quickie now though, I've made a "group" to send funny texts onto and while ome of the texts go to the mobile number, some are being sent to emails...again, anything really simple & dumb I'm doing here? I have set the mobile number as "primary" on all the group members but the phone seems to mix up the emails with the mob' numbers if the contact has more than 1 email address, 1 of which I set as primary too. Cheers again...
Hello All,
I just lost al my contacts from my phone. I was attempting to sync them to outlook but apparenlty the blank zero contacts from outlook got synched to the phone.. NOW I have no contacts wondering if I can retried them.. somehow..
Thanks
i think you cannot retrieve them anymore. they are all lost. at list mine was, coz i did the same thing!!! i forgot to check "change the item on the pc" instead of on the phone... and all contacts where lost. too bad. after that im using microsoft myphone as backup, and all the contacts are uploeded at their server and i can retrive them if something like this happen.
Hi all,
Today I ran into a problem with my phone, regarding synchronization of my contacts with Gmail. I wanted to share the problem and solution, since it is bound to happen to others.
NOTE: I have a Dutch phone, so when mentioning menu options and such I am bound to use the wrong terms.
What I did:
I came from a WM6 phone and migrated my Outlook contacts to my new Andriod phone. All went well, I had my contacts securely in my phone memory. Handy thing, it links all contacts with similar contacts from Gmail.
Since I do not use Outlook anymore (it now seems redundant) I worried about losing all my contacts when something happens to the phone, and wanted to migrate them all to Gmail.
I did this; downloaded an App (IuA Contact Backup I think), backed up the contacts and imported them into Gmail. After cleaning up the contactlist in Gmail it seemed to synchronize fine but it also made my contactlist slow. This is because it needs to link all contacts from different sources, which takes up a lot of processor speed. The phone contacts were now useless though, since they are all in Gmail.
So I decided to delete all Phone contacts. When I did this, I lost most phonenumbers (although they were still in my Gmail contacts). Then I noticed that synchronizing with Gmail had started failing, resulting in some drops of sweat and no clue how to restore it.
The error message was: "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." Apparently when I thought the contacts from Gmail had synchronized correctly, they had not.
What I did to solve this:
I started with a backup of all my contacts! If something goes wrong, I am not responsible for the loss of your contacts!
In Settings -> Applications -> 'Manage applications (?)' -> 'All applications' I went to something called 'Contact storage (?)'. Here I deleted all data.
After that, I restarted my phone (soft reboot, just use the on/off button with long-press and select 'Turn off'). When the phone starts again, it will start synchronizing with Gmail and all will be fine.
On various fora I found that Android does not like large amount of changes to the contacts in Gmail. If you delete (or change?) a lot of Gmail contacts before it synchronizes, I guess it cannot keep up with the changes and stops the process. This will not solve itself.
