I used to have a HTC Touch and i connect to the internet using the update weather pannel, then i startup messenger and that left my ppc connected to EDGE all the time...
Now i updated to Touch HD, with what seems to look as a newer version of messenger, but now when i do the exact same thing messenger logs off after a short while with the message that i wasn't active so he disconnected and need to login again...
i searched the net, several people have this problem, i searched my regedit and only found this:
HKLM\software\microsoft\windows live\messengeridlesessionduratition
if i click it it states: 0
and i don't dare to play with this because i don't know what it will do
if anybody got a fix for the auto disconnect at idle time in messenger for wm6.1
it seems to be versions: 10.6.0042.1900 (about info in windows live)
thx for the help or info
I have the same problem....i have the T8282...WM6.1....has anyone found a way to keep MSN/Wifi connected for long periods of time?
I've installed HD Tweak and have changed the settings so that the phone remains connected to Wifi when it locks (ie. the backlight turns off)...
but it still disconnects when i leave the phone connected for long periods of time...I would like it to remain connected to msn even if i am not looking/using my phone....
Anyone found a solution?

hi guys,
Ever since I started playing around upgrading the software of my exec i'm having major trouble syncing it to my PC, When attached to my PC it accesses and says connected if I hover over the icon but the dialog box shows retrieving settings all the time. I cannot sync any PIM information etc but I can transfer stuff to my device but not from...
any ideas what I have messed up??
thanks
Spike
I had the same problem. If you look in setting, connection you can set the USB back to the standard system and not advance.
Have a look, and do not forget to do a soft reset for the change to be done correctly !
I bought my Hermes a couple days ago, and of course the first thing I did was get rid of WM5 for WM6.
The system runs great and I can actually read English, unlike Kanji.
One exception to my high praise is Internet Sharing... the TyTn ROM I flashed the system with seemed to come with a broken sharing app... no big deal, I went on the internet and downloaded it, installed it, and proceeded to watch it not work. The app actually DOES launch now, but when you press the connect button, it quickly cycles on, then back off in the matter of about a second.
If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.... I need tethered internet as soon as possible!
Thanks in advance.
Just a quick bump, anyone think they know why my internet sharing won't stay on?
Oh also, my phone tells me that it detected an unknown USB device attached to it and asks for the driver.. even when it's not connected to anything.
Problems with internet sharing
I also have problems with internet sharing on my Hermes (MDA Vario II) with WM6 Black Satin. Most of the times once I have disconnected from the internet and try to connect later it doesnt connect saying it can not connect due to some unknown reason. Only after a software reset does it begin to work again. Never had this problem on WM5 and have tried closing Activesync completely before reattempting a connection to no avail.
Anybody with an understanding of the problem or solution ?
Ive had an O2 Orbit for a few months now, and have to say its the best phone ive ever owned, I used to own an XDA Mini S.
However just a few questions.
1) My wifi disconnects all the time, literally withing 1-2 mins of connecting to the wifi, I have no idea why its doing it, DCHP is set up manually, and im using a Belkin N1.
2) Im using No Data to stop the GPRS from connecting when IE opens accidently in my pocket and ends up costing me £7 a month in bloody errors! But i was wondering with GPRS stopped will I not know if someone has sent me an MMS?
3) Is there a decent Music player that will play music off the network, at the moment TCPMP is the only one that works, but its interface does not really apply well to song playback.
4) Another annoying thing! It appears when I turn the screen off, it seems to disconnect the wifi (although that could be more 1 related), and also turns off the sound, so it means I have to have the screen on in my pocket if i want to listen to music!
Sorry for the multiple questions!
WIFI could be a number of things.....most important thought what ROM are you running? Are you still plugging along with WM5, If you are I strongly suggest you give Tom Codon's Black and Blue Version 3 a spin. This will probably resolve a couple of your issues and is rock solid stable.
IIRC having GPRS stopped won't stop notification of an MMS, I'm sure you will receive a standard SMS message to alert you that you have a message waiting for download, you will need to re-enable your GPRS to download it.
I use Pocket Lan to give me access to Network shares, and have found pPod a pretty easy piece of music software to live with.
Turning off the screen should not affect your WIFI connection, is your WIFI running at full power within the phone, as I along with many others have found that this is the only setting that makes the WIFI function useable.
Take a look at the WM6 Artemis thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=362 and read up on B&B3 from Tom, and BE VERY sure you have read the instructions and use USPL, the upgrade to WM6 is easy and will BLOW you away....

2) MMS is sent over O2 Active (O2 WAP) Internet Explorer will not connect to O2 over WAP so you can leave the settings for that available when you run a program called No GPRS. http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=40638&d=1180860606
4) When you press the button on the side you don't just turn of the screen, you put the device into standby. It works differently to your previous device in that respect. There is no work around for Windows Media Player as far as I know, WMP forces the screen to stay on on a dim setting. Take a look at Mortplayer as an alternative: http://www.sto-helit.de/index.php?module=page&entry=mp_overview&action=view It has settings that allow the screen to turn it's self off whilst in use.
Thanks for replies.
Ill have a look into upgrading to wm6 I was hoping o2 would have an official rom out by now!

hi again i have a problem with the phone.I upgraded the xda in win2006 but the active sync doesnt make a connection with the device everytime i try to connect it.i have active sync 4,5 and this version worked fine with my previous phone xda exec .so whats the problem in this? and do i need to install another version of active sync ?4,2 or something?thanks
problem with ActiveSync
I have pretty much the same problem, only mine is something like this: If I connect the BA to the PC first time, it's working, but if I disconnect it and try do plug it in again, it's not seeing my device. So sometimes I have to restart so that my active sync works again. I'm almost sure that my problem is because of the operating system on the pc witch is not in a very good shape.
ok any solutions what should i do?? the problem is still on active sync cant make a connection.

I have learned that I must turn off the BA between sync attempts. If I push the power button, wait a couple seconds then push it again and place in the cradle. Ever since I started doing it this way I get no timeouts/can't connects.

WM6 requires activsync 4.5 or higher so downgrading will not help. Have you ever been able to sync? Is this the same computer/activsync setup you used to upgrade the BA? One thing I have heard that people have done that has helped is to completely uninstall activsync, reboot the computer, then re-install activsync. Windows does strange things so it may very well help.
ActiveSync BOOSTER
Is there a way to boost up speed of Sync
Is there a any software or Cab file for it ?
Also want to know after we sync Phone
It keeps repeating to sync, is there a way to stop it ?
With removing the phone
Please Help
I cannot sync my calendar or inbox - properly. Some things sync others don't am not to sure why.
I installed xplodes latest wm2006, .NET 3.5 - all seems fine except for the syncing.
I uninstalled activesync 4.5, re-installed 4.2, then uninstalled ti and re-installed 4.5.
I tried syncing ONLY the contacts, then added the calender in options. (suggested in another post)
Still it is NOT WORKING - i really need the sync to work if I am too keep wm2006 ?
any other suggestions ? (help!)
Ok so my phone will only randomly sync using ActiveSync 4.5.
Most of the time it says its an unknow device. I also notice when I install the drivers, it registers as a Generic Windows Mobile Device.
Any fix for this?
Not a fix, but a work around. The general panacea for ActiveStink problems is to go to Settings> Connections> USB to PC> and uncheck Use Advanced Network.
What that does, as far as I am able to tell, is to switch to the old way of connecting the PPC to the PC.
Having a different issue with Activesync on my 8525 (Hermes100) since upgrade to WM6.. error reports "change on server" forcing a complete re-sync with Outlook; all "custom" settings, pictures, ID ringtones, etc. from the phone are lost... Get's frustrating as it takes time to re-config... it will go 1 or 2 weeks fine, and then without warning this message comes up, have not made any changes on the PC or config that would trigger this as far as I know... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..
