I've had my O2 XDA Graphite for more than a year now but only just decided to get a MicroSD card for it. However, I have plugged it in, and when I go to file explorer I cannot navigate "up" from the device to get to the memory card, also when i try to download files I cannot save it to the memory card.... Can anyone offer any advice?
I thought it'd be like my previous smartphone where you just plug the card in and it should work. Occasionally the phone would not recognise it, until i rebooted the phone and then it would see it again, this time I have to remove the battery to insert the memory card, and then power it up with it plugged in and it still doesn't recognise it.
Can anyone offer any guidance.
Many thanks
Only thing i can think of is you have an SDHC card which your Graphite may not be able to read. What capacity is the card? Greater than 2Gb then it is SDHC, less and more likely not.
this is the one I went with - it's not SDHC, just Micro SD - I didn't think that would make a difference? If I go with the HC one should that work (obviously dont want to waste another £6!)
That one is SDHC. The fact it is greater than 2Gb in capacity makes it an HC one anyway, i think. Do a search on here for the SDHC driver CAB. I've never tried it but its worth a shot. Can't remember where it is, don't be surprised to find it in one of the device specific sub-forums. It should still work.

Hello,
I'm wondering if 4gb SD still works with our blue angel before i buy it?
I heard 2gb is working without any problem.
Thanks everyone!
Yes.
I'm using a 4GB SD card that I bought from Amazon.
thank you so much!
My Transcend 4GB card works like a charm. No tech problems whatsoever, and it's a little faster than my previous card as well (despite the speed limitations of the Blue Angel SD-reader).
But just so you know what you're getting into: as decadent as it may sound, I'm now facing a different kind of problem.
I've got about half of the card filled up with all the music I'll ever need, a TomTom map and the complete TLG (Thesaurus Linguae Graecae: every classical Greek text ever written, an invaluable research tool). Now the haunting question is, what will I do with the other half? 8)
No really, anybody got any tips? Are there any great programs out there that require a huge amount of storage space? I need to waste it on something cool or I'll explode!!!
:? I'm pretty sure this is exactly what Heidegger meant by succumbing to the inane obligations of new technological possibilities instead of using them as a means to an end... I wonder if a little "Gelassenheit" wouldn't be out of place here. So before you buy that huge sd card, ask yourself if you're ready to face the unfathomable existential void of about 2 gigs of leftover free storage!
Nah, just kidding, 4GB rules. Just buy it and don't worry about compatibility. Sorry about the rant. I've had too much coffee.

Now that might be a good idea.
A 1GB card would probably do me for everyday use, but I got a 4GB card to be used in my PDA and also as a USB drive by using it with card reader that is similar proportions to a USB drive - SanDisk MobileMate SD+ - fits on a keychain though I have to use an elastic band to stop the cap falling off. I need this so I can bring work home.
For everyday use I suppose I can fill it up with music so my PDA is more like an iPod. But I really need a large card when travelling - maps, scanned guide books and videos, music, podcasts to make the journey go quicker.
PDA as USB drive
Browsing through the forums, someone suggested using Card Export with a USB sync cable:
http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2/
to turn your PDA into a USB mass storage device - cool idea. Just downloaded a trial but transferring files is quite slow. Below is a quick test:
Card Export II with PPCTechs Lil' Sync Pro: 0.56MB/sec
SanDisk MobileMate SD+ Card Reader: 2.93MB/sec
It's probably because the "card reader" in the PDA is slow; I wonder if the BlueAngel supports USB 2.
Mini SD + Adapter + What to do with all the space
I've just (today) got a mini SD (2G) with SD Adapter.
The 1GB card was nearly full. (13Mb remains)
But the effect of the 2Gb... weird... or what?
Windoze XP Pro (SP2) declines to copy anything on to this SD + Adapter past the 1GB mark...
BUT...
BUT...
Microshaft's ActiveSync will??!!??
Mind you, it creates a funny looking directory list with loads of phantom file folders. But on the XDA, the files are all there, and beyond the 1Gb boundary, and they are accessible.
The card reader is one of those 50-in-1 usb jobs, with three extra USBs on the end.
Windoze File Explorer says .99Gb Used 913Mb left now.
I've yet to try this 2Gb + Adapter in my PCMCIA card adapter for my old Jornadas.
XDA now says 1019.46 in use with 913.63 free as well after copying my old 1Gb card and some 30Mb of docs I needed.
I hooked in here again to see if there was a simple fix for Windoze. Or indeed for our XDAs.
Even tried copying a folder full of txt, Doc, and PDF over to the card. When it failed on some nonsensical bad file error... which we know is wrong as the file is quite accessible on the PC where it was being copied from... we tried copying the remainder to another folder. It had a go at this and even put the copying screen with the files flying across... but they never went over and it soon failed on another error.
Getting back to your space problem... one of the things I use space on the XDA SD for now, aside from music mp3s, is audio books. I'd forgotten just how good it is to have someone read to you. Especially when it's someone like Tony Robinson reading Terry Pratchett.
Stick the XDA in top pocket, bins on, head back, and let the story take you.
We use a site which specifically caters for e-books and Audio now. I used to get them from the other more general download link sites, but this one is a bit specialised. It's called Wordhaven.
If you want a pointer to it, then please LMK.
After copying over an audio book I wanted to listen to (The Night of The Triffids, Unabridged 300 odd Meg) the XDA Settings/Memory/Storage Card reading became 1393.75 In Use, on 539.34 remains so I guess from one point of view... the XDA... it is working.
Files check out and play too.
It's just Windoze doesn't want to co-operate really with the file copying, but it still reads 1.36Gb on 539Mb remains in File Explorer.
Now why is that?
I was deliberately steered away from 4Gb for the XDA. After reading some of the accounts here I'm not too sorry we went for the 2Gb.
Does the fact that all cards we have seem to be formatted for FAT (presumably the ancient egyptian version) rather than FAT32, have anything to do with it... and why is NTFS not an option offered in Windoze format for cards??

This is very interesting since there is a new SD standard out there called SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity). From what I've been reading this standard support 4GB up to 32GB, and the old SD standard only supports up to 2GB.
What's more interesting the 4GB cards you guys are possibly referring to (?) are somewhere in between these two standards because it's too big for the regular SD standard but it's not SDHC. It's cool it still works though.
So is the 4GB card that you're talking about SDHC or "regular" SD?
They're regular SD cards not the HCSD ones, however technically since they exceed the 2GB capacity, they are no longer conforming to the SD specifications. I use the Kingmax M-Series ones without any issues.
has anyone used capacities of more than 4GB on their BA?
I have a big problem
I dont know how can I start ,, I will tell you
I bought sd card 4Gb from Ebay ,

Two things might be happening here:
1. Your laptop might be an old one that can't read larger SD cards. Lots of older laptops won't read anything over a certain size (e.g. 1GB). When they can't read it, they often tell you that you need to reformat it, just like you saw. Some laptops have a driver update. If not, you can always buy a cheap USB SD card reader.
2. You may have bought a fake sized SD card from Ebay. There was a spate of them formatted to display a bigger size than they really were. Probably this isn't the problem, because you formatted it from your BA.
no one got some ideas for me?

I've have an XDA Stellar for 17 months, with the same Sandisk 8GB Micro SDHC storage card all along. Some months ago, it suddenly stopped recognising the card, but my PC could read the card fine. I couldn't face another hard reset, soft resets did nothing nor did blowing air from a can into the slot.
A month later, I changed batteries (which wasn't unusual; I have two official batteries for when I can't get to a charge), and suddenly the card was recognised although I had to reload most of my programmes, but at least I could access them and most of my files again. I was too superstitious to change batteries again although that made little sense to me.
Last week, the card 'disappeared' again and nothing (even a battery change) will fix it. The phone is nearly useless to me without all my programmes on that card. Does anyone have any suggestions for a solution? I've found nothing that works and it's driving me mad. Thank you for any possible help.
hi
first of all i am not a professional but what i would do in your case is:
put the storage card in another phone
sync with pc/save files in a folder in pc like sd backup
buy a new card and put it in your phone you are using now
copy the items in your new card
i dont know if it helps try at your own risk (there isnt much risk)
No Storage Card recognised now
Finalforce111, thank you for your response. But I forgot to add that I had tried other cards when this happened and it won't recognise any, not even eg the one that came with Copilot. So no storage cards are recognised, although they were before.
But thank you very much for your suggestion; it is much appreciated.
I would like to say that your Card Interface is somehow broken,i´ve your lucky, its just a cold soldering place..
I have a Tilt 2, with an 8GB class4 micro-sd card. I used to have a class 2 4GB card. I'm currently running with the latest version of Nrgy's ROM, before that I was running the HTC updated rom and before that, the stock rom. From the first time I got this unit till now, I've had a problem where it will suddenly and for no reason, "forget" that the micro-sd card is there. Programs won't launch, because I install them all on the card, and I have to soft-reset the unit before it will recognize it again.
Is there any way to fix this permanently???

Is it after connecting the phone to your PC via USB, or completely spontaneous?
What brand of SD cards, and where did you buy them?
It does frequently happen after I connect the phone to my pc at work, but not always. The original card was a Kingston, the new card is by Transcend. Don't remember where I bought the first one, the one that's in there now was bought from Newegg.com. I also noticed that a soft-reset doesn't always bring it back...I have to eject the card, put it back in and then soft-reset the unit before it recognizes it.

You either have a bad SD card, or a bad SD slot. The former is far more likely, however. Try this out with another card. If it works with another card, then just see if you can exchange the card. If it gives you issues with another card, set everything to stock and do a warranty exchange.
Kingston in particular is plagued with counterfeit knockoffs, and its hard to guarantee a genuine one if you buy from ebay, or other places except the most reputable sources (such as Newegg). The counterfeit ones seem to have a variety of strange behaviours on the TP2, along with not having the advertised storage capacity.
Now, this doesn't explain your issue with the Transcend card from Newegg. I'm thinking a bad card, same as suggested above. You can also try a full format of the card, and starting from scratch.
I have a HTC EVO 4G which is supposed to support up to 32 gb memory so I purchased a 32 GB micro card on ebay a few months ago and come to find out, it was a fake. I bought another one and filled it up to about 29gb and it worked fine for a few days then it just stopped working and now the phone I had it in won't recognize it's in there nor will my laptop. The difference being that at least my computer sees that something is there but won't read it i.e. it says drive h: in computer when I put it in but says insert drive when I try to access it. Also, it starts to get extremely hot after a few seconds to a minute. My husband has one as well from the same company, the same brand and has 30gb of stuff on his and hasn't had a problem yet (this has been at least three months ago now). Before anyone says it; yes it is 32gb, I tested it before I put it in my phone (thus the fact that I had 29gb of stuff on it before it went screwy), yes it is in the slot properly or else it wouldn't even say H: drive at all and no, my card reader isn't bad and yes it is compatible with my computer and the card as it is what I used to put the stuff on it originally and it still works fine with my husbands 32gb card and all of my other cards. My computer works fine with his card and it worked fine with mine before it went bad. Now, all of that being said; is there anything that can be done or will I have to just buy a new one?
There are programs out there that allow low level access to the drives that windows does not.
Get ahold of one of them and see if you can wipe it and repartition it.
There has always been a problem with the eBay cards, that's why they are cheaper, because not all memory cards are created equal. Unfortunately, my guess is that this boils down to you get what you paid for. There really isn't much you can do other than try to format the card. My experience is that you have lost the data on that card for good, and that more than likely, the card is dead. Sorry, hopefully someone may have a better answer for you.

could you provide program names? I'm very interested in something like this.
Norton Partition Magic
Acronis Disk Director
Paragon Partition Manager
Those are all commercial packages, though. If you want something free, you can try GParted, a bootable Linux CD.
Anyone know of any tools to try to recover data on a card like this? PC doesn't recognize card.
For the longest time, I have been unable to use my 128GB Sandisk MicroSD card properly with my GN4. I have tried SD card fixes, foldermount, and messed with the platform.xml file as well. What I used to do back in the days of ICS/Pre KitKat 4.4.4 was take the SD card and plug it into my computer (via SD card adapter) and transfer the files I needed directly since it takes a while longer if I connected the phone to the computer. I can still transfer files to the microSD card if I plug it in, but they are not able to be read. This is starting to piss me off as I have a lot of music that I would like to store on the card. Anyone have anything else they can suggest?
I used foldermount last week - Some of the music files work properly, while some don't play and I get the message "unable to play this file."
I bought this card brand new and I'm hoping it's not "a bad card"

I also use a 128gb Sandisk Card, the "ultra" I believe. I never had a problem with it, I just came from the Note 3 and put it in the Note 4 with no issues. Is yours the "Ultra" also?
Maybe a bad card. I got 3 fake ones on eBay before I got a real one. I flipped out on the sellers and reported them. Each time I got a bad one I spent hrs copying data over to the 128. I would copy over around 20 gb, and another 20 and so on. When I went to look at the files that I had first put on there they would be gone. There are programs u can download for free. Just Google how to tell if sd card is fake. A fake card is really a 2/4/8/16/32 card changed to look and act like a 128 and once it hits it's limit that u don't know what that is, the earlier data that was put on the card, disappears.
Here is a link for a program I used:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730285
This happened to me back in Oct/Nov when note 4 was launched. I ended up paying $120 on eBay for SanDisk's highest r/w 128 gb card.
The first seller claimed he didn't know they were fake and promised to stop selling them if I retracted my bad feedback as it was the only bad feedback he had ever received. Once I saw they were removed from his selling list I retracted the feedback. The second and third sellers I was not nice to, did not even have to send them back the pos card. My response was something like refund my ****ing money now for selling me this fake ****ing sd card. Ten minutes later both had gave me my money back. Assholes. After I got a good one I had contacted the first seller again and explained how much trouble I had and the scam artists there are on eBay. I feel that he was genuinely sorry and had no idea. He also stopped doing business with who he was getting the fake cards.
This good card has been great, note 4 32 gb internal, 128 external, both full, zero problems.
Plug it into your computer and check if it's formatted correctly (fat32 vs NTFS). That might solve the problem. Don't quote me, but I think it needs fat32.

Yes it does need to be fat 32.
Also if is fake, u might format it, move data, insert in phone, and it says it's not readable and needs to be formatted.
Yes mine is the ultra version as well (in red letters on the micro sd card)

the two options are exFAT and NTFS. I formatted on exFAT and it seemed to be working just fine until today.
So I use my sd card as direct storage for when pictures are taken. I was at dinner today and took pictures of the food we ate. All of a sudden when I go to the Gallery, I see a black and grey image with an exclamation point for the pictures taken at dinner with the exception of one. I am wondering whether Samsung/Google is releasing updates that put the phone back into the main issue of not being able to R/W to the external sd card? I don't know what else could be the reason. I also tested the card to make sure it wasn't fake. SO DAMN FRUSTRATING!
Shouldn't have to format it. Already exfat when it comes. If it's real, contact sandisk with pictures of the card and it's serial number and a copy of the receipt. They will replace it.
