I do not want to flash the whole ROM , so I used another way to fix the ADR LITE.
I extracted the exe. file of adobe reader LE from my diamond (2.09M instead of 2.01M of HD )
Tried two ways:
1. replacement of the original ROM's exe file. This worked but it ended up with failure in direct opening of the PDF files.
A grey screen will appear after the start of adobe reader lite. Then you will need to select your target file again by browsing.
2. copy the exe file into another folder, then renamed it as another name e.g. ADRLv25.exe.
If you start this ADRLv25.exe, then you can use reflow.
If you kick the PDF file directly, the original ROM ver will be started without a grey screen. But this ver has no grey screen.
Interesting - thanks, I'd like to check it out.
So what exactly do I have to do with the exe file you provided?
Do I run it in my HD and install it or does it act as a stand-alone app?
If something goes wrong, can I get the original one back?

You just need to copy and paste it can run it alone.
Try not to replace the original one on your rom.
Replacement will end up with failure in direct launching of PDF files. The program still works but you will need to open the file by browsing in the adobe reader lite manually.

Thank you both for your input!! I ended up installing the cab from "Prof. Yaffle" in the post above to have the uninstall option if needed.
It worked like a charm! Now I can open pdf files just like before (directly out of a folder) and then under Tools--View I can select "reflow".
This is a MUST HAVE for a Pocket PC!! I can't believe they took that out of the version of AdobeReader that is shipped with the HD.
I'm so glad I found this thread. Thanks for posting it guys!
I notice now that when I use fullscreen mode, I cannot get out of it. I used to double-tap (or tap and hold - I can't remember which) and I could exit fullscreen mode. Now, I have to press the HTC Home button to get out of Adobe Reader and then in the task manager I have to close Adobe Reader, then restart it.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Simplest solution without installing anything:

BTW: double-tapping is working fine to exit fullscreen....
Even better. Excellent find.
Thanks.

AWESOME - even better. Thank you for the link!
I uninstalled the cab I had installed earlier.
Did a soft reset.
Then I did the simple registry change (current_user/software/adobe/adobereaderle.25/ EnableReflow 0 to 1)
And now it all works perfectly. I have reflow and I can double tap to get out of full screen mode.
You know, it would be nice if double-tapping brought you both in and out of fullscreen mode. I wonder if that be done somehow.
But in any case - I'm so glad I got this sorted out.
EDIT: This tip should be added to HD Tweak (I already sent the developer a PM about it). I also added it to the wiki list of HD tips.
I have another question.
How come in landscape mode, when I use my finger to scroll, it scrolls like crazy regardless of how soft I flick? It's really hard to stop it and I end up losing my place in the text.
FYI - This happens whether in reflow mode or not.
EDIT: The only way to get it to work is to gently flick and immediately tap the screen once. I guess I can live with that.
Given the exceptional amount of RAM on a Blackstone, why not just go with Acrobat Reader 2.0? That way you get the automatic bookmarking. There's one wierd problem with AR2 - it can only read a single folder deep, I believe, so if you file your PDFs in multiple folders you have to move them around in order for the reader to see them. LE doesn't seem to have this problem. But honestly for me, it's far more annoying having to find my place again every time I open an old one.

reflow on touch cruise 2009
I have just replaced a touch cruise 2007 with a touch cruise 2009, and I have a problem with Adobe Reader LE 2.5. I used the Diamond version on the older phone, but 2.5 is pre-loaded on the new one. The new version does not have reflow and the installation of my cab produced an error message. I have tried the registry edit, but the registry key does not show a value for EnableReflow. I put it in and there is no effect after soft reset. Is the Touch Cruise 2009 ROM version different from the Touch HD?
Adobe Reader 2.0PPC (as available from the Adobe website) does not support WVGA devices - so it's next to useless on an HD. Adobe Reader 2.5LE for WinMo is a totally different branch, and each hardware manufacturer tailors it for their specific device (screen res, d-pad, etc.) so a version bundled with the ROM on one device is unlikely to play ball on others. 2.5LE is not available (legally) as a generic installer, it's supplied by Adobe to the OEMs under an ironclad license deal, ensuring the OEM only bundles a pre-configured image in the ROM. It's intentional, to stop people porting it without permission.
Foxit Reader works fine on the HD, but personally I don't like their menus - especially the lack of a "page X of X" text field like 2.5LE has at the bottom.
Adobe Reader LE 2.5 versus Adobe Reader PPC 2.0
I had wrestled with the problem in 2007 when I got my original Touch Cruise. I found a CAB for a LE 2.5 for the HTC Diamond, which worked pretty much flawlessly, including reflow. I replaced the Touch Cruise 2007 with a 2009 because the hardware buttons wore out, and I do want the buttons and the five-way wheel for one-handed reading.
Now the ROM version of LE 2.5 on the Touch Cruise 2009 appears not to have the reflow option at all. I have installed Adobe Reader PPC 2.0 and it reads and reflows tagged pdf files just fine as long as one opens the pdf file from within the application. If I open a pdf file from the File Explorer, Adobe Reader opens and exits immediately. Worse, Adobe Reader PPC 2.0 does not open pdf files in mail attachments correctly. It reports that the file is damaged, and tries to repair it. The repair fails and the attachment is unreadable. Interestingly, if I take the attachment back to the PC by ActiveSync, and open it with Adobe Acrobat, it looks fine, but Acrobat reports that it is now untagged...
Last problem is that, in the process, the file associations for pdf files has been switched to Adobe Reader PPC 2.0. Is there a freeware utility to set file associations?
file associations
I have solved the file association issue with Total Commander.
Still remaining is the problem with Adobe Reader LE on the htc Touch Cruise 2009. The ROM version clearly lacks the reflow. I have succeeded in installing another version of LE 2.5, both as a cab, and directly by copying the executable into another directory, and in both cases, I can set the file associations so that the new version, with reflow, is opened when I select a pdf file, either from a directory or from an e-mail. However, the program opens with a gray screen and stops. If I go to Menu --> Open, it does find the pdf files and opens them properly. Similarly, if I open LE 2.5 directly, it finds and opens pdf files normally. I assume the gray screen means the file open is aborted somehow, and it must have something to do with the simultaneous presence of the ROM version. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix this? There is a workaround for the pdf attachments: I just tap and hold the attachment and save the file. It then opens normally in LE 2.5 with reflow.
registry change
Hi everyone
Sorry to ask what may seem a basic question but I am not very familiar with my device yet.
I have recently purchased a TOSHIBA TG01 and I am willing to use the reflow on adobe le 2.5.
Having read all the above, may I ask the following:
What is called registry, and can one make a step by step description of the registry change process that enables adobe reflow?... I mean after having switched the phone on, what do I do to change that registry ?
Does this registry change enable the bookmarking in adobe reader le 2.5 ?
Many thanks
cheers

Hi!
I have a Dell Axim x50v (VGA device) running WM5 AKU 2.3, and would really want to have HTML support for email, since WM5 email client doesn't support it. I don't want to download any extra third-party application like Flexmail, but rather would like to know if there is some kind of a plugin for this native email client that allows HTML support.... I heard of WM6 and it's richer email client. Is there any way you can install WM6 email client on a windows mobile 5 device like mine? If not, is there any WM6 ROM that will work on my PDA? (Other things like viewing Internet Explorer Mobile in high resolution mode, or the new "calendar ribbon" would also be a worthy upgrade.)
.... There is a very slight chance that Dell will release an official WM6 upgrade considering how old my model is.... (it came out in 2004, being replaced by x51 models in late 2005).
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
For what I have read, you are basically out of luck.
You can't rip the email client out of WM6 since it seems to be very much incorporated within the OS. If you want to enjoy the WM6 email client you have to upgrade.
As far as if there is a WM6 I am not sure and since you have reached a HTC forum, well, have you tried a Dell site?

Quoted for the truth.
Outlook (PIM) depends on Shell, Shell depends on Coredll, Coredll depends on kernel. Bummer.
Like I said, there is no chance that Dell will be releasing WM6 upgrade for its handhelds, so visiting "aximsite" wasn't very usefull for me right now.
When you guys mentioned that the WM6 email client is very much incorporated with the OS, does the same apply with the Internet Explorer Mobile that now supports high resolution, or the Microsoft "MarketPlace"?
Is there at least a third-party HTML support plugin for the native email client, or is Flexmail the only solution for viewing HTML-formatted emails? (I would really prefer a "free" third-party application.)

Try Qmail IMHO the best email program and what is more important free
http://q3.snak.org/download/ take most up to date compilation from Nightly build section and don't be afraid about japanese page Qmail is in english! At the bottom of download page you'll find openssl extension for secure connections.
I can't properly download this "Qmail" program. If I want to download and install it through activesync by first of all extracting the zip file from the nightly build and then running the exe file, it eventually says "not a valid Win32 application" or something like that. In fact, i can't stand that official japanese website, cause i get that same message for anything i try to download from there.
Actually, i got a chance to see how Qmail works (looks pretty nice - it supports HTML, right?), but not necessary to use it. Instead of running it on a PC, i copied right away that zip file to my device, and installed Total Commander on my PPC. However, I had to extract each component for Qmail separately using the Total Commander. Really a disasterous download, if not even. It ended up opening the program, but never really saving it anywhere on my device. After a quick soft reset, there is no more trace of it.
So, SERIOUSLY, does anyone have an alternate cab or exe file of the latest nightly build for Qmail v3 that actually works, not links to that japanese website?
I think you don't get the idea of inslalling it it's not self installing program! unpack it on your desktop than move whole folder with all files (all dlls and q3u.exe) to some folder on your ppc, probably the best is storage card. You can copy files that way by opening activesync and than klicking on explore button there will be your ppc just like any other folder in normal desktop pc. Copy whole qmail folder to it and thats it, you can start qmail using totalcommander on ppc or later create some shortcut to program on today or in programs.
here is packed folder "Qmail" with all needed files unpack it on your desktop and copy unpacked folder with files to your ppc using activesync explore button! Sorry but I can't write it more simply This one works on my ppc as all other versions did!
http://przemek.nekla.pl/Qmail.rar
and one more thing here you can read somthing more about qmail and the power of this program! also how to set it up

Nice!!! I finally got Qmail installed on my device. Seems like it can do a lot more than just let you view HTML-formatted email. So, how well does it compete with the native WM6 email client?
Ohh, you guys never answered me about WM6 Internet Explorer. I find that IE that comes with WM5 takes very long time to open pages, or at least - fairly slow. (Doesn't work very well in the morning when you are in a rush, and don't want to wait for your PC to start up, and whenever it's ready to connect to the internet). Many WM6 reviews say that the WM6 IE is quite faster, supports AJAX, and especially more stable. (Don't know how to explain it to you, but when scrolling too fast the web pages, especially in landscape mode, at one point all the graphics and program icons become as if shattered with black, grey, green, red, ... lines -the images corrupted, that requires soft reset.) Not sure if this is an error, or if WM6 fixes it. That's why I was thinking of overwriting my current IEMobile with the Internet Explorer that comes with WM6. Or is it hard-coded, as well as WM6 email client, into the OS?
One last question. (sorry, if I'm bothering you guys too much.) Everyone knows that IEMobile of any kind does not allow multiple tabs. And i really would have preffered some kind of a plug-in, not a separate web browser, that allows it. I tried PIEPlus, but it also adds way too many features that I don't even need (i need a browser plugin that handles it as simple as possible) that only wastes more memory, and i think, slows down the IE even more. Any idea???
Ok, I know I was asking above lots of things. So, to make it easier:
1)Does anyone know how i can speed up my internet explorer mobile?,
2)And how i can fix that occasional screen error that occurs while browsing the internet that messes up my whole PDA?
So, um, can somebody help me?
Hello! Is anyone out there?
I'm really curious about how Office Mobile performs on HTC Touch HD.
As i tried it with HTC diamond i view doc file or pdf file in vertical way and can be ZOOMED easily. But when i tried it in horizontal way these two file types aren't zoomable ? Is it the same to HTC Touch HD. Is there any solution for it ? Can u show me your picture with the solution. Many thanx. That's the most important thing i really care about the HD because as u know it's very nice to browse web on HTC touch HD but is it the same to reading offline document (pdf and doc file i really hate to read in vertical way especially for pdf file)
I took some pictures of a pdf and a doc file, each in portrait and in landscape mode. I could zoom fine at all times in every mode. The Word doc is at 75% zoom in the pictures. For Word, you have the option of 50, 75, 100, 150, 200% zoom. I also included a picture with the keyboard showing in landscape, so you see how much screen it takes.
Keep in mind that when reading pdf files, there are two options:
1. If the file is "tagged", then it's text will reflow upon zooming. This means you don't have to scroll left and right to read a long sentence. It will just reflow to the next line, so you only have to scroll up and down. This is nice for reading, but the layout might be messed up depending on whether or not there are pictures, tables, columns etc.
2. If the file is not tagged, then it will look just like on your desktop pc. You'll have to scroll up/down and left/right to read.
I believe transferring a pdf through ActiveSync can (or will?) tag it in the process. I'm not sure, though. However, a pdf file transferred through normal copy and paste into a folder will not be tagged.
On your desktop PC you can also open adobe and select to view a file in tagged (=reflow) view. Just open a pdf, zoom in so that you can't see an entire text line from left to right. Then press Ctrl+4 or go to view--zoom--reflow.
I find that the search function in a pdf on a pocketpc is really slow. However, I must say that some of the pdf files I've tried it on are 700 pages long. I don't read them on my HD; they are more of a reference material.
I hope it helps.
EDIT: I FORGOT SOMETHING REALLY IMPORTANT..... Keep in mind that to rotate these files into landscape mode, you need third-party software like Gsen or Gyrator!
I noticed that there was no option for reflow on the Acrobart Reader LE built in my HD. However, I have found Adobe Reader LE Diamond version from the net and it can use reflow for all the pdf books I have tried so far. It has the option in both landscape and vertical orientations. One proplem I had was once you make full screen there is no way back. But still,it not a big deal. PDF performance has been increased a lot with this version and I have been reading huge sized boks since.
Micro olap chm reader is also perfect for CHM books and works very vell on HD
Correct, I don't see a reflow option in Adobe Reader LE on the HD either. I didn't know you had one on the Diamond.
As far as the full screen issue - when you are in full screen just tap twice on the screen to exit full screen mode.
Another suggestion is to convert your pdf file into an ebook. You can do it all for free. I have tried it out with MobiCreator and it worked okay except for any pictures and tables in the pdf. So, depending on the pdf file's contents and layout, you mind find it to work very well or only so-so. The nice thing about doing that is that the text will reflow quite nicely. Anyway, for someone who often reads pdf files on the HD, it would be worth it to give it a test-run. I'm sure there are other software options. I have only tried it with with Mobi. If anyone has any suggestions please post them. One downside here is navigation (unless you spend time creating a few navigation links).
Links:
MobiCreator (will work on Vista too)
MobiReader for the HD (download the second to last one on the list - name = "mobiread.arm.cab"). This allows you to read the created files.
I'll have to check Micro olap chm reader. I have some chm books I would like to load onto my HD. Thanks for the tip.
Thank you very much for your opinion. I'm considering to choose HD or Xperia but now I will buy HTC Touch HD when i go back to UK. Is there any recommend shop in uk which i can buy HTC Touch HD without contract? I found somepeople talk about www.clove.co.uk. Is it safe to buy there i mean in case my phone has any faults on design, software, screen ... Can i send back to the shop or i have to send it to HTC Europe warranty ??
I have tried double tapping of course Unfortunately, in this version with freeflow, it doesn't seem to work. Even if it cannot go out of full screen, acrobat reader le with reflow makes it ideal for reading and I cannnot really complain.
I am attaching the version with reflow but I really cannot remember from which forum/thread I have downloaded this and sorry about the missing credits.
Thanks for the tip regarding MobiCreator I didn't know it could convert from PDF as well.
Hi I was thinking of switching from Omnia to TP2 and use Opera Mini all the time due to its speed. Had anyone tested it on the TP2, wondering if the different screen res makes it differcult to read due to size or should it be better.
I just installed it in JBlend. The legibility is OK, although the default font size is a little small. The main problem is that opening or closing the keyboard requires you to restart JBlend, which is a royal pain in the neck as I often want to switch between landscape and portrait mode when I'm browsing.
This problem seems to exist with all JBlend apps.
Install JBed, works like a champ. Will thoroughly recommend it. Much better than JBlend.
On Jbed what is the font size like?
Are there no problems with keyboard as described with jblend?
I just installed the latest JBed and OperaMini now loads fine. The font is pretty small, but readable (by me, at least).
Does anyone know how to create a direct menu shortcut to a specific JBed application (e.g. OperaMini, GoogleMail, etc)? (i.e. without having to launch Jbed then select the app you want to launch). I'd also like to assign a different icon to each application, so that I can tell them apart purely from the icon.
Sorry for the obvious question: JBed? JBlend?
Are these some sort of Java runtimes that one must install on a WinMo device?
There's no Java ME edition in WinMO 6.1 by default?
I don't get why you wouldn't just use opera mobile which comes with it
Because until Opera Mobile 9.7 with Turbo ships, mini opera is several times faster with proper settings.
For the past 3 years I've used almost nothing but Opera Mini myself, instead of the full fledged browsers available (I have bought Opera Mobile as well and a Webkit browser).
It's just so much faster due to Turbo caching and fits my needs.
I suspect many others are in the same boat.

Thanks for the link.
So....following the instructions for jbed...I created a text file on the PC containing only the following line:
"\windows\jbed.exe -run s0_"
(with the quotes included). I copied this file to the TP2 and renamed it "OperaMini.lnk". When I run the renamed file it doesn't know how to handle it - I get the "Open with..." dialog.
Can anyone advise what I'm doing wrong??
itm,
I believe what you need to do, is create the shortcut file on your TP2 using a file explorer other than the stock WM one (at least on my Uni, it is not capable of creating shortcuts). I think you can either use the inbuilt function of the file explorer (i.e. paste shortcut or something like that) or create a file and change the file extension to .lnk (as you have done) Once the new shortcut file is created, you need to access the "properties" box of that file and in the box where it says something like "go to" or "link" you will need to paste "\windows\jbed.exe -run s0_" (with the quotes). You then save the change and should hopefully be ready to roll...
Appologies for the vague explanation, but left my Uni at home today, so can't physically go through the process on an actual WM device atm.
If you're still stuck after reading this, PM me and I'll try and walk you through once I'm home.

Hello,
Is anyone else using Microsoft Reader? I can't get it installed properly. The installation and activation run through OK but the progrm does not appear in the "All programs" list. If I go to the Microsoft Reader directoy and click on MsReader.exe it runs fine, activated and everything....? Is there a way to create a "shorcut" for a file to point at from the "Programs" tab?
Grateful for any help.
Cheers/McHan
How strange
To manually make a shortcut: browse in file explorer to the msreader.exe file, long press, choose "copy", browse to my device\windows\start menu\ programs, long press or right soft button, choose "paste shortcut". If desired change name (long press on item)
Brilliant, worked like a charm. Could not get it to work in File Manager, but in Total Commander... Many thanks!/McHan
Hello, I've installed the latest version of the Microsoft Reader and the instalation was successful. But I have a different question. How do you page in it? There are no key arrrows, touch interface doesn't work and the areas on the display which function for paging (beside the page number) are too small to touch them comfortably. So far I've found following ways to use it, but I'm satisfied with neither:
- use stylus to touch the paging areas
- open the keyboard and use the arrow keys
- install the AEButtons application to remap the volume keys (in this case the the whole system became unstable and furthermore I was not able to read holding the device in the right hand
Thanks for any help
Hi,
I am a fan of ebooks and have used many ebook reader program on many pda devices. Just as you did, I also installed MS Reader and have some observations:
1. Ufortunately Ms Reader is basically designed for d-pad pda's. That is to say, it is impossible at this stage, for this version to change the page via touch or slide movement on the screen.
2. Other than that, MS reader installs a font called "wingdings" for itself, which conflicts with Advanced Config and HD Tweak. That's the reason you see awkward characters in these programs. With my TYTN II, I could delete or rename the name of this font and continue using both programs. However, it impossible to delete or rename this font even via Total Commander in Touch Pro 2. Because this file is accepted as a Rom file by the operationg system. Therefore I had to uninstall MS Reader.
3. I use MobiPocket for many ebooks; it has many good options; though I should say it needs upgrade too. Please look at this thread: http://www.mobipocket.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16032
4. I use a different program for lit files; but I can't remember it's name now since I broke the LCD of my screen and trying to repair it nowadays You can see it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534883
5. Microsoft should develop a new MS Reader version or we should find a way to use cleartype in Adobe Acrobat somehow.

Yes, pretty much the ebook readers need a massive update.
One thread I found on the Microsoft Reader support site had one "semi-official" person saying they were working on a version for WinMob 6.1, but that was last year, and no further updates.
I found another thread that said that Microsoft had stopped support for Microsoft Reader.
So no idea what happens. I'm hoping hen WinMob 6.5 launches, there will be a proper touch-friendly ebook reader in the store, that can handle .lit files as well =)
eReader
eReader (fictionwise/barnesandnoble) is pretty sweet for commercial titles. And for non-commercial titles, manybooks.net brings gutenburg to the eReader format (as well as many others) without you having to do any conversion yourself.
I haven't used the winmo version yet (which allows you to purchase/dl books directly btw), but the old Palm version uses the dpad And the touchscreen for page turning, so I imagine it would use the touchscreen for the better supported winmo version as well.
If I had a library of .lit books myself, I'd consider converting it to something more universal.
Microsoft Reader now for WM 6.1
A couple of weeks ago Microsoft quietly introduced a new version of Microsoft Reader that finally works fully on WM 6.1. Long overdue.
Does this mean that they still see Reader as a viable product, and that it could be developed further in a growing and ever-evolving ebook marketplace?

A couple of weeks ago Microsoft quietly introduced a new version of Microsoft Reader that finally works fully on WM 6.1. Long overdue.
Does this mean that they still see Reader as a viable product, and that it could be developed further in a growing and ever-evolving ebook marketplace?

Thanks for the news; however MS Reader still sucks; I have set up and used the program for trial with many of my .lit files; but I came across some annoying features:
1. The program installs a font called wingdings.ttf for its viewing purposes; the problem is this font interferes with many programs including Advanced Config and Manila 2.5! In the previous version it was possible to rename and disable this file in Total Commander; however it seems as a ROM file now and it's possible to get rid of this nonsense font.
2. It's still very hard to turn page in devices like Rhodium, where you do not have the D-pad.
3. The funny thing is, there was an common bug preventing the opening of .lit files inside File Explorer; we could get rid of it with a small registry trick. You can see this bug here: http://forum.soft32.com/pda/open-reader-files-WM5-file-explorer-ftopict66047.html
The funny thing is that silly bug is still there LOL after all these years. I think Steve Ballmer needed to fire some more crew
Therefore I have uninstalled the program again.

Hi,
I'm looking for a DjVu reader running on the newest versions of WM (6.5.x).
I've found some pretty old projects:
pocketDjVu and DjVuCE
I'm going to try them tomorrow if they work.
But I would rather have a fingerfriendly DjVu reader that is made for WM 6.5 (or 6.1 at least, lol).
Any tips ?
They should support WVGA and 800x480 px.
Or perhaps there is a plugin for Adobe Reader?
Update:
I tried pocketDjVu and runs quite well on my 280xx build.
It works with WVGA and except for the option menu you can controll it with your fingers. Not perfect as it was made for WM5 but acceptable.
When zooming it makes a notification that there is not enough RAM for this size but it still works.
Please feel free to post other DjVu readers as there may be a better one .
Anyone else with experience to share in regards to WM 6.1 and application mentioned above or any other app suitable for opening DjVu files?
i tried one of the two programs mentioned above, but i couldnt get my phone to associate it with djvu files.
it would only say "this file is not associated with any...." etc..
+ when i tried to find it inside the program istself it didnt list any of the djvu files.
any tips?

nope, but i can assure you, that this filetype is useless on PDA's.
Let me say this again:
i am fanatic of collecting methods for opening as many filetypes as possible on PDA and that one is not suitable for that kind of devices. Maybe it was matter of size of files i tested, i am not sure about it, page loading was puren nonsense.
Now, what to do?
..i am struggling too. ideal situation would be converting djvu to CBR/CBZ, but...jesus, this would be nightmare.

quick thought:
did you try to add gsgetfile/tgetfile to your system(file requester changer, A MUST, imo)?
if i am thinking right, maybe that problematic software is just using default WM requester and it is just NOT searching inside of card subfolders. i do not remember what the problem was with these programs - you may try copying test file into /my documents to check, if it became visible(i know, ridiculous advice, but..).
otherwise, use total commander(PPC) for force-assigning filetype to djvu software - it may not work sometimes(it depends, if software can properly use %s's).
