Key lag - Keyboard lagging - HTC Excalibur

Hello guys,
I searched the forum and the entire net about this very special s620 problem. the keyboard lags. Means that keys are missed very often. There are some tweaks and work-arounds for the problem like installing an extra cab which adds new keyboard registry (values can be lowered). But those work-arounds just help a little. The problem stays. And that's such a pitty because the s620's hardware provides IMHO the best BB form factor for windows. Had before a i600 same factor, good keys, bad sound quality but no lagging at all with WM6.
So, it's strange that there's no fix, no ROM provide a lag free keyboard and just a few people complain about this problem (?)
The problem occurs often with spaces and double letters ("letter" would be "leter").
If this problem stays I am finally getting a Javelin.
Thanks for your help
mc

I don't have an Excalibur but try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=122116&d=1224133492 (don't worry, you can uninstall it if it doesn't work but it's worked for the Kaiser, Hermes and the Raphael)
and also under settings - buttons change the repeat and delay repeat rates. if you are missing letters then shorten the delay and increase the repeat rate...in no time you'll be complaining of double letters

Artemis users: Help me with my bugs!

Hi fellas.
Please check out my review on this device:
http://www.absolutesurf.com/articles/dopod_p800w/
Towards the end of the review, I have listed 2 bugs found. Can you also let me know if you notice such bugs? I'm particular about the standard input bug especially. Thanks!
Secondly,
Lets say i want to use the O2's or T-mobile's ROM, is that possible? Is there a way to flush out my ROM into an installer so that I can install it back in if I were to send the device to Dopod for one reason or another?
Nice review!
I have a Greek rom so that my input panels are somewhat different than yours (Greek keyboard and I do not have the T9 phonepad input). In general I have not had this upward-shifting bug. Ocassionally it has happened when I have activated the transcriber while on the today screen...but this has been the exception rather than the rule.
A small bug that bugs me regarding the input is the long lag when shifting from one input method to the other. I have considered installing calligrapher as a solution to this problem (as it has keyboard and transcriber together)...but I do not like to crowd main memory.
Thanks
Yes, shifting between inputs does lag a little. The phonepad I'm using is taken from this forum as well. You can simply install it.
I think I gotta hard reset my device and install other stuffs one at a time to determine the root cause. Just this little problem that makes the device imperfect..
Mask, nice write up, with ref to the car holder, are you sure it can't be bent? the one supplied with my P3300 looks the same and that can be bent (it just takes a fair bit of effort) - Mike

I can confirm that I do not have these issues on my HTC P3300.
I have also mapped the mouse pointer to a hardware button. When I click it when TomTom is running, the button reverts to the default (internet explorer) but TomTom already has a pointer for exploring the map using the scroll ball! Also I do not need to do a reset upon exit of TomTom. The button goes back to mouse pointer.
Did not see the shifting input panel when I toggled between keyboard and phonepad (also from this forum)
It could be model related, or Mapking could be the culprit here

Oh my!
Yes.. it bends! Initially it felt pretty hard and I was afraid I will snap it. Thanks for pointing that out.
As for the other probs.. I willbe doing a hard-reset.. and slowly install apps one at a time, to see what exactly is the culprit... Hmmm
After the hard reset, I still have the problem on the extreme bare minimum device!
Someone help me answer my ROM question pls.. I think I wanna change to a P3300 ROM. How is it anyway? Thanks!!

Auto Text or Auto Correct Applications

I've been using my Dash on the weekends at certain times instead of my tytn and I am desperately looking for an autotext or autocorrect applicaton. Basically, I do a tremendous amount of emails on my phone and this application allows me to type in three letters in an email like "mrq" and have it replaced with "meeting request" or "btw" and replace it with "by the way". I use Kai' autocorrect.net on my tytn and it lets me write emails so much faster.
the xt9 on the dash is an annoyance and does not perform the same function.
Qoolapps makes qcaps and qcorrect, but it only works on the motorola q.
Bumping this up to the top again. If anyone has any suggestions, please help. I really need this.
Bump here --- (AUTOTEXT solutions for WM5/6)
I have used Kai Autocorrect but recently it seems to have issues with some of the WM6 ROM's - can't pin it down so input on that would be great.
But also if there are any other options - it amazes me this is such a simple yet killer app for the BB .... example type bb = Blackberry .. type wm = WindowsMobile.... thxm = Thanks Much!
Not using mouse stylus and all that jazz just on the fly word conversion and completion with a self defined library of words. AutoCorrect again does most but has not been updated in a long time.
Thanks for anything ---
I am confused, too: used it on a Excalibur? I thought it runs only on PPC??

XT9 (DB edit) or Autocorrect alternative.....
Correct -
The issue is the WM6 Smartphone version and PPC versions differ in how they do Autocorrect - which for many is brutal pain..... the PPC version has in /windows a hidden file called autocorrect.0409.txt which can be manipulated to add/delete words from your dictionary and you can control it.
The Smartphone/WM6 since it uses ughhhl XT9 yada it uses a different DB which is apparently tough to edit - manipulate - to anything with.
As much as I wish the Smartphone worked like the PPC, I think I am hoping for a prayer here that won't happen - so I see only 2 options that would get us close to that:
1 - Some way to get control to add/edit change this XT9 DB
2 - An add-in app (which I have asked a Dev to look at but says its rough) to run resident and give us the same as what exists on the PPC/WM6 on the smartphone.
The sad part is all in all I could see the SmartPhone needing this even MORE since it's keyboards are usually smaller any anything to minimize keystrokes is key.
This is so sad --- Anyone that can help I would be so grateful. Even if there is some way to port some of the WM6/PPC ROM components over would be VERY NICE!!!

A call to all developers ... this is the only thing I miss from my BlackBerry ....
Someone must be able to amend either QCaps or MagicKBLite to work?

6.1, keyboard and another newbie problems

So, I got used Hermes cheap and it's my (almost) first PDA. So, I am kinda newbie and I ran to a few problems.
So, first of all, here's my biggest problem. I got a Hermes with different keyboard than in manual. I have used search and found a picture, so my keyboard looks like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=29735&d=1155484079
I tried various methods for changing my keyboard layout, but no success. I need a keyboard to type sms fast, however I should memorise all the characters or to use stylus.
Also, I am new to PDA, but I'd like to try some fast custom 6.1 ROM. I successfully flashed to 21109_Manila2D_Opera.rar, however I wonder if newer = better. What do you suggest for a beginner?
I think that these questions are quite often and you're probably tired of answering this. However, it would be great if you could help me with my problems.
Ok, here I am again. After a few hour sleep (I was tired from school), I found a solution.
I used JLAs dynamic build, which I can complement for being fast, stable and solid-looking. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446608
And I changed my keyboard layout to Swedish with advanced config. Now it all works fine.
Sorry to bother you, please delete or lock this thread.

[DEV][QVGA][UPDATED 05/13/2009] EzInput 2.0

INTRO
I've started this thread to port the EzInput Keyboard to QVGA resolution. The keyboard is now fully functional yet still has a couple of small glitches to be fixed in portrait mode.
I am doing all the testing on my elfin, so I cannot assure that it will work on other devices so you'll have to test it yourselves!
You can download it here:

for their hard work on the VGA port, since I have mixed parts of their ports to get this QVGA version working.
KNOWN BUGS
XT9 is not currently working: the keyboard seems to get the coordinates (size and position) of the VGA keys. E.g.: if you press "q", "a" or "w" the keyboard will write "q" on the screen, since the three letters are in the area of the "q" key in a VGA screen (double size).
Any help on this matter would be really appreciated!!!
XT9 UPDATE 05/01/2009:
I´ve managed to get XT9 working by replacing the xT9ime.dll of the EzInput 2 with the EzInput 1.5 dll supplied with the ROM I am using. The problem now is that I cannot change XT9 mode back to normal mode .
Anyway I encourage you to test this and see if we can get a solution to the XT9 issues.
To test it, just go to the windows directory, rename eT9ime.dll to something else (e.g. eT9ime.dll.OLD) and reset your device (this should restore the dll supplied with your ROM).
I´m waiting for your comments!!!!
VIBRATION/XT9 UPDATE 05/13/2009:
I managed to get vibration to work a couple of weeks ago, but I wanted to fix the T9 mode before releasing a new version.
I´ve been working on T9 and have not been able to find where the code responsible for calculating the key pressed (based on the coordinates) is.
OPTION A: If anyone is able to find such place in the code or just point me in the right direction, I´ll find the time to patch et9Ime.dll so that QVGA users can enjoy T9 in this keyboard.
OPTION B: Another possible option would be to patch the et9Ime.dll from ezinput 1.5, but the mappings of some important keys seem to be different (XT9/ABC switch for example), and also different registry keys need to be updated so that everything works as it should.
Sorry for the lack of feedback, but I need more time for fixing these issues since this is the first time I am dealing with SIP/IME/IMM and stuff and I´ve found it a little bit more complex than I thought it would be.
HOWTO
Additionally, I'm planning on writing a very simple "howto" to explain people what they can do to adjust/fix/change the layout of the keyboard.
PS: I cannot post any screenshot now, so if anyone of you can upload one I'd be grateful.
problem on XT9 mode, maybe is the key mapping, i dunno that
for example type q,w,a,s the result is --> qqqq
type e,r,d ---> www
thanks for your hard working
T9 issue
You're right (i did not test the XT9 )
I'll have a look at it.
Thanks
Nice
Just 2 questions :
- vibrate when keys are pressed : Don t work normal maybe ...
- Is there a way to change language to french? i see 40C file ...
ty
looks great, good to finally have EZInput for QVGA.
major bug I noticed it messes up the keyboard mapping..for example Caps does not function, nor does the light, just flickers on then off when caps is hit, I believe to turn caps on and off (at least for me) I would have to use function, which also works for function (if that makes sense) lol
also the function keys got incorrectly mapped, I will try the tilt keyboard fix, hopefully that will work, and you can post that Cab.
Minor Issue: no SIP image to open the keyboard on the phone. its a black square, hit the square to active SIP. Would be nice to get a cool new icon though ;P
other then that, I will continue to test this, because the spacing between the keys and the skin is very nice
Thanks for your hard work and the post
I installed this new version and the only major thing I see compared to all the rest of the one you have posted is that the SIP Icon for the Keyboard that shows between the softkeys is missing, if you press the empty space the Keyboard still pops up and is functional but the icon is gone.
thanks man. Work great
So I don't have the phone keypad...is this just a problem with me or does anyone else have this problem?
XT9 is off, but that's fine cause I don't find a need for xt9 on a full keyboard anyways. Though like I said in the other thread I wish there was compact qwerty, or at least I could have the compact qwerty from my other keyboard as well.
Thanks a lot! Im at school now, but as soon as I get home, I'll install this on my phone.
- Thanks, your job is really appreciated.
Great !!!
I've been waiting for this for sometime now and just say thanks for the Qvga version Just wondering if anyone is working on the xt9 bug, i have gotten accustom to using that but if not no worries still a great keyboard !!!
Well, this full qwerty is a huge improvement over the EZ-Input one. I installed the keyboard and used the full qwerty without any problems. HOWEVER, does the Compact QWERTY mode not work with this? Thanks.
Thank you man, you are awesome !
I don't have any problems with it, except the reported bug of the SIP Icon.
But the keyboard on my Elf is a bit slow without O/C. (WM 6.5)
I love this keyboard !
XT9 bug
I've been looking at the XML files, the kdb files and the ldb files and I still cannot figure out the place where the XT9 keys size/position (x,y,h,w) is defined.
Does anyone know whether it's hardcoded in a PE module or it can be configured anywhere?
BTW, I'm afraid Compact QWERTY is not possible for the time being...
Sorry if I'm repeating. If I switch to numeric and press a key and then go back to ABC then all the keys are screwed up and when I press them I get the wrong keys. Do others have the same problem?
littld, i'm not experiencing that behaviour, sorry

I have been trying to find this out too, I have looked everywhere and can't find the positions for XT9.
Side note, on all 3 previous versions you could use XT9 in ABC and it worked perfectly, but in the new version it just types normally in ABC and XT9 is still broke.

Yes, all 3 you posted in that thread. If set to XT9 all key mapping was off as I had posted in that thread and others. But ABC worked as XT9 without a problem. It was weird. But I am running the last posted version which I downloaded from sendspace and it works as described above. When I installed the one when you opened this thread also from sendspace XT9 key mapping is still the same, totally off and ABC just functions as it should, regular typing with no text prediction.
Hope that makes sense?

[NEED HELP!] HD TAKES TOO LONG TO WAKE UP -many missed calls..-

Till now i have found just about everything in xda! Even a similar thread for the same problem but no solution at all!
Thing is, my hd takes too long to wake up for an incoming call..resulting in missed calls all the time..Ring starts in about 3,5 tones..!!! It wakes almost instandly (backlight) but it takes a lot of time to draw the picture etc and THEN starts ringing..
[i am on MIRIS V18 wm6.5, using the default WM dialer with the sliders (not htc's one!) and csdev for autolocking after wake up]
I had similar problems in many roms, even 6.1 .. with the fastest one being 1,5 tone then ring.. Its allready too long for me! I have tried some tweaks, i am not using mp3 for ringtone, using instant ring from hdtweak and no ring delay setting etc..still no luck..
What can be done? I know that many users have the same problem, even with stock roms.. Its same for such a device to be able to do everything sooo sweat but not the phone function!!
So any special tricks?? (font, gdi cache etc settings?) i heard that with sktools and advanced configuration tool etc you can do actually much about that!
Feel free to post your experinces as well, hoping that someone can provide us with a solution or a worthy workaround..!!
I've got the same problem, always have to call people back. Mostly takes about 5 seconds before the answerbutton works, while ringtone is already pissing off the other passengers in the bus
I still think the slow buildip is caused by Wisbar Advance, I used the HD Tweak aswell.
Very Good POST yes you are right many peoples have the same problem i have the same problem!
So i try with HD tweak "Ring without delay" i try with Advanced config and etc Again the same really when someone ring me no matter from the ringtone or anything the phone start ringing after few seconds!
I make few test and what i saw is that if the phone is sleeping when someone call you take longer your phone to wake up and ring
then i try again with no sleepy phone, again ring with delay so i can say if the phone sleep he need few seconds to ring like 5 seconds if the phone not sleep he need 3-4 seconds But at all This is serious problem and maybe is time we to fix this!
I don`t see any point this device to be able to do so much things and we always to Upgrade them but the phone function that we use everyday to make us troubles!
I have this problem with the stock room when the phone was brand new, after i flash the phone with Davideuck V 5 have the same and now im with Davideuck v7 and again is the same ! so no matter what kind of room or radio version you use this problem is real... and really the phone ring with DELAY
Will be perfect if anyone can find desigion of this problem and our phones to start ring immediately without any delay !
Thanks
I have been struggling for months with well-known this 2-sec (far more than this !) delay. The HD tweak didn't work for me either. Furthermore, it has been reported that even if this setting is changed, it is self-reset after a soft reset !
The only solution I found is replacing the HD Caller ID with the WM default one. It is very ugly compared to the modern HTC one, but now my phone takes only 1 sec to respond, that is, wake up, show the Caller ID screen and start ringing.
This replacement can be done from the settings of the HD tweak.
Please let me know if this works for you ! I'm running stock ROM.
Yes if we use the default WM dialer the PHONE is very very fast and ring without ANY delay but its very UGLY so maybe the problem is in the dailer!
Like i say no matter what room you use yes its the same for me with the default WM and the phone just think faster than me
Maybe some programers must to chek this out why this heppand maybe the HD dialer is too heavy?
Yes,thats true! But i am using wm dialer, not htc's one!! Still far from fast..(although i am on wm 6.5 where the default wm dialer with the answering sliders looks awesome, its buggy and slow as hell..[because it needs that the phone is locked in order to run so])
So as i asked around in a major greek forum i have found out that 99% of hd users have the same issue! [that 1% doesn't give a s&@t !]
Here too..What can we do about it..?I am starting to think the 1,5 tone delay as acceptable value..[told you i am on 3+ right now!!] Does anybody know if windows 6.5 that lock with external programm [like csdev] on wake up take normaly so long? Ideas...?
it's always not a good idea to fresh new rom too often

That has nothing to do with the problem man..!
If we could find a way to minimize the load on wakeup!! (so the hd has nothing to load more than the phone function!)is it possible?
Like i told you with the default WM dialer with WM 6.1 the phone ring without delay and is like every normal phone so this mean that the problem is in the dialer..
I think that the HD dialer is too heavy or buggy and this is the reason why take so long to wake up.. the phone!
Maybe some programers must to chek this out what is the diference betwen the default WM dialer and HD dialer we all know what is the diference.. but i mean the diference not how they look like how they are made and all other litle codec files..
So maybe we can find solution to update the HD dialer to be fast as the default WM one..
No matter you are with WM 6.5 and etc.. because till the problem is not solved no matter what room you will use the dialers will be the same made from the same files..
to resolve this we need to know what exactly is the problem to be able to fix it!
Like i say i think that we can find answers in the DIALER but im not programer..
this is very true and this is a very good post gonna supscribe to instant email about it right now ... i think the problem is not only in the dialer i have a stock rom and i had the problem since the very first day but i got a greater delay after installing spb pocket plus while i am not actually using manilla anymore and even a greater delay after installing wisbar advance 3 ... maybe the solution would be in the processor priorities i dont know
So far, i haven't found any solution .
I already made the same post a few months ago :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3902624#post3902624
there's got to be a way guys!!
Some time ago, both sides recording was a total NO(!) for htc devices!! They say it was HARDWARE ISSUE and nothing could be done!(for over a year+) Then .. ICR and..voila! We even got tmc now! !
Is it possible to have the slugiest of all phones?? no way!
I think is a question of time we to find solution for our problem with the phone ringing delay!
Managed to get it to 1,5 rings in the same situation!( as i described before, no rom change etc..i was on 3,5 + rings remember!!)
I installed advanced config tool and played with the phone and performance settings.. performance almost set to max values..(font cache etc..)
Phone settings no delay, end key delay from 3000ms to 0 etc..(there are some settings there, so be sure to know what you are doing or backup first!)
Think i can get it to 1..!which will be extremely fast from what i experienced so far!!
Note: the improvements are for the second+ call after a softreset! The first one is ALWAYS slugish!!
Hi kostasalfa,
Mind posting your Adv Config settings? Thanks.
After long... long search I found maybe a solution:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0
Script value to av0pr
I'm going to test but it seems the true way ^^ (thx to AX3L)
D'rath
Ok .. not a "true" solution but got INSTANT ring! (before the end of the first tone!!)
As i said i was on wm 6.5 using the kinda buggy default lock etc...After my advan.config setting which was an improvement i did the following! Stopped csdev and so the deafult lock! I did go back to S2U2 !! (warning, important: set delay after wake up to 300 or better 400 ms!!) And then i tried resco contact manager!(again!) But there is a new beta free for all of you in their forum!( http://www.resco.net/forums/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=24957 ) Set it to HANDLE INCOMING CALLS! Soft reset.. and voila!! (install s2u2 in device..resco better in sd!)
As i said..not a true solution but i GOT INSTANT RING!!
DONT FORGET TO USE HD TWEAK TO REVERT TO DEFAUL WM DIALER, NOT HTC;S ONE!!!
Try abd tell me if it worked for you!
i use the new energy rom 6.5 standard hav no problems with ring time or receive any late calls or miss calls u guys must check out the roms before loading them
Thanks for suggesting to try Resco Contact Manager. The new beta version seems to have corrected the incoming call delay. So far, my HD responded just before the first ring ends. Still testing.

Good news! Resco did it i think..
(i may try the energy rom as wingtytn suggested but i dont think its a roms issue..Ps:wingtytn try to call yourself from another phone to see WHEN it starts ringing..if you got no issues i would lke to know!you use wm stadar dialer?etc!)
