Peoples,
There appears to be an issue with Spb programs and the latest WM6.1 builds.....what I would like to do is collate who has these issues, with what ever ROMs, and with whatever Spb programs (Diary, Plus, Backup, Traveller, etc).
If you have had any of these issues pop up please post here and I will supplement by posting to the Spb boards to hasten their repair!!
I know there are no issues with SwiftB ROM's to 7.5, and that there are issues with Duttys latest (for starters) and Spb Diary and Spb Pocket Plus....
Cheers and thanks
I've not encountered any issues. What does the bug look like?
The bug is such that the drop-down menus for changing the settings in the program do not work...they just show up as blank. I fyou have a D-pad you can motion up-down to select, but if using stylus when touching the box nothing appears and nothing can be selected.
Recognised issue by Spb how are attempting to correct....

I don't think you will if you are still using Panosha's simple rom...it only happens in the latest WM builds (AKU 1.4.3 or later maybe?). That ROM is based on 20273.1.3.3.... Still, if you are confirming that you dont see the problem, it will at least help identify exactly when it started, which build...
I'm using Dutty's V3.6 ROM and have the same issue.
Spb: "... issue noted and being resolved"
Thanks all for the replies to date....Have posted a few comments on the Spb Forums and there are genuine issues that are "going to be resolved in the next v.x release". When this happens no-one at Spb will say (except there was an indication that Spb Pocket Plus could be resolved in Dec 08!!)
Anyway, the Blackstone folk only have latest ROM build and they are suffering/complaining most and loudest, so we should see this resolved "soon".....
BTW, if you are an Spb Forum Member post away there to get the issue "elevated and accelerated" for resolution!!!
Same issue on official WWE-ME_2.03.456.2 ROM with Spb Diary and Spb Pocket Plus

same problem here with many 2.03 rom's.
Confirm, same Problem (dropdown menu) here too with original ROM 2.03
Same problem with official 2.03.
Just a little tip:
It is possible to choose from the drop down menus by pressing the first number or letter in the words in the drop down menu (you must knoe what is in the menu...). E.g. pressing 1 will run you through 1kB, 10kB, 100kB when choosing data.
Same problem happening to me in 2.03 in Spb Backup 2.0.1. (AKU 1.4.3)
*** SOLVED ***
use the new Spb Pocket Plus v4.1.0.Build.6599
tried and every thing is OK

SPB hat NOT updated SPB Pocket Plus as u mean!

I just upgraded to WM6 and I installed the same applications which were installed back when I have WM5. One of them if SpB Plus, whereby I put the RAM icon (for running program) at the 1st tab.
I noticed that after running the same applications I typically used back in WM5 (messaging, Pocket Information, SpB Insight, Phone Alarm, etc.), WM6 didn't release the memory back as much as WM5.
Example (after running the above program, then closing all of them - NOT minimizing:
WM5: ~21 Mb
WM6: ~ 18 Mb
I tried this about 4 times with 2 separate 8525, one running WM5 and the other WM6.
Forgot to mention: the file that seems to keep growing after opening/closing application is filesys, checked using MemMaid.
Anyone experienced this?
Which version of WM6 are you running?
I am using LVSW Edition (2007-03-15). I haven't tried the 2007-03-20 since I get really tried re-installing different WM6 ROM and re-installing the apps over and over again. Sooo.. I am waiting to see if other have the same problem with various version of WM6 before plunging myself for another 4 hours of reinstalling everything.

I was about to, but I held back because I want to ask if anyone, who have either the LSV or the Black WM6 ROM can tell me if they have the same issue, simply just by looking at the RAM level.
Not that I am lazy, but I have gone on installing ROM so many times it's just not fun anymore and hoping that someone can just post about the memory issue.
UPDATE: I found out that using SkTools "FreeRam" tool, I can free up the memory, but not by much (extra ~1-2 Mb).

well y dont you install the ROM... and use Task Manager to see how much memory each program is using... and do bechmark tests like every hour or so if your really worried about it that much...
Read my post above: installing ROM and re-installing everything is not a 30 minutes gig. Plus, a real testing will involve normal usage, not just running 1-2 apps and watching the screen.
I merely asking for the community assistance for those who have installed the Black version or has noticed similar problem.
Why are you giving me nasty remarks? TIred of installing ROMS?

calm down... im not giving nasty remarks...
was mierly suggesting that you try it out... and leave task manager running and open the applications you are worried about to actually see if it is releasing the memory or not...
i also am sick of flashing ROMs everyday... but thats how you get to learn about different ROMs and their flaws...
I would suggest bringing this to SPB's attention as you seem to have a difference with WM5 and WM6. If this is a must app for you, then until SPB updates their software to be more friendly with the yet-to-be release crossbow OS, you should probably stick to WM5... think of all the extra time you'll have left over to do other things than install and test... especially if it's not fun for you.
Since the first WM6 ROM was made available, I've received WM6 compatible released software from SBSH, Wisbar, CE-Star (Chinese), Conduits, and CodeCity.
Here's one example:
http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10476
We got our hands on the ROM before developers got their hands on the SDK. He got the SDK 06MAR and identified challenges posed by the new theme. 10MAR confirmed he'll a new rendering engine for the WM6 product t WBL. 16MAR released the update. Nicely done Chris.
And many thanks to the Chef's who continue releasing build improvements that address both shortcomings of the original ROM and additions that make some of the features more convenient.
Walshieau, many thanks to you also for your many informative and helpful posts and contributions to the XDA community.
Cheers to All

happy to try and help...
I don't use SPB anything, any after about a day or so, I get about 19MB free. A fresh soft reset, gives me 25MB free.
@darkjedi
If the task manager icon is present in the settings menu (go to start>settings>system(tab)>task manager) then tick the top two boxes and when you press the X button it will actually exit the program you are using. You may have many programs running in the background which you are unaware of, by soft resetting this clears the memory and the programs present are those on startup.
@lanwarrior
Version 0.2 of WMXL has a memory cache fix cab, not sure if this will work on LVSW but it is worth a shot, the memory usage improves after installing this, might be worth a shot....if all else fails perform a hard reset and then maybe flash a different WM6 ROM (Black v1.2 or WMXL 0.2??).
I'm actually using the HTC Task Manager, and am closing the apps. I'm using LVSW 3-15-07 ROM. It's working great. It's not really a complaint honestly, just a little annoyance.
I used to love SPB Pocket Plus mainly for its X Button app, Battery meter and quick launch on today screen.
I did find it used to chomp extra resources and every time I returned to the today screen there was always a second or 2 pause while the today screen plugin refreshed.
I've since switched to Batti, Scott Seligman's Launcher and the HTC Task Manager. Same functionality but way less on system resources and memory.

Thanks for mentioning alternates to SPB PP, which is a disaster on Black v 1.2, in my and other's experience. I am going to get them and give them a try.
I mentioned SpB plus because I use their memory meter to monitor the memory usage for the device, irrespective of the applications, SPb or not.
I am going to remove SPB Plus, but I think this is not the primary cause. I have SpB Plus running overnight with no other applications running (today's plug-in or messaging auto-connect) and the memory usage didn't change.
I think it's more of opening and closing applications, whatever they are.
Those who are using NON-SPB applications but monitor their memory using whatever you have, let us know if the memory usage decrease far more than WM5 over time when you open and close applications.

If you want to run SPB Pocket Plus, do not try Black edition. It has compatability issue. (I personally will not try any Black Edition again unless more than 10 people confirm the issue has solved.)
I need my phone device for work, can't be beta tester all the time...(more than 15 reflash on same Black Edition. Even the creator of ROM indicate the fixed, but he hasn'y really test it.... Personally, I like Black edition the most, but....)
I am currently running LVSW late edition, very stable. I am running OS only with more space edition. Radio 1.38.0.10 seems to enhance the battery life. Maybe I am using Black Edition's black theme.

Since these cooked WM6 roms available (Vanilla, WMXL, Black, LVSW, 3DES.1) are all based on early (possibly beta) versions of WM6 you WILL be beta testing them until we can get a fully stable version.
Its thanks to hard working individuals like Kyphur, walshieau, jasjamming, lvsw, olipro, pof et all ~(apologies if ive missed anyone out that REALLY should be mentioned) that these ROMs are getting more and more stable every time a new version is released, if you dont like using them then revert back to WM5. But dont go wragging on the authors just because software DESIGNED FOR WM5 doesnt work on them.
Id suggest cooking your own WM6 version as it may help you appreciate the work put into these releases....free of charge may i add.
Tried many version WM6 - LVSW Edition(2007/04/08), Black Edition 2.0, Dutty's WM 6 P....
Spb shell , spb pocket plus, going connect internet(3G-HSDPA), usb sync.. live messager.. cannot power on after suspend, freeze slide keyboard !!!
So read-up on these issues and fix it. Making a thread about it will only piss people off. These are try-at-your-own-risk. Christ. I'm running Black 1.2 and love it. Yeah, ALL ROMS have some little bugs. Things happen. What did you expect?
try it without spb shell and i'm pretty all your problems will be gone.
I ran spb shell fine on xda live .20 but after a while it starts acting up and freezing, so unintsalled spb shell and everything was back to normal. Now i'm on Black Pro 2.0 and don't have anything installed except batti, resco file explorer and softick card export and no problems at all... I'm too lazy and busy to reinstall all my apps back.
I know all people working hard on the OS. Many many thanks to them. but jz want be less freeze 1-2 times a day. But mine one.. 10 times a day @@" no problem no freeze on the auk3.3.3. I'm still looking more stable wm6 willing flash and flash again.. wm5 >> wm6 >> wm5 >> wm6 >> wm5 >> wm6 >> wm5 >> wm6 >> wm5 >> wm6 >> wm5 >> wm6 ..........
The apps you're using have been known to cause problems. Uninstall all Spb software and try it then. I had a similar problem. Also, make sure if you have a Storage Card that it's not a mess. Mine was and I think some of my SR problems came from there.

beside the problem "cannot power on after suspend", which sometimes happen, I have no other problems at all using black 2.0, I'm very happy with it. You can solve the suspend problem by turning off that option. I know its not the best as it won't save much batter but then everything goes fine, at least for me

Follow the steps in this guide:
http://www.mrvanx.myzen.co.uk/hermes_guide/Downgrade/
Before you attempt any downgrade to whatever rom version, I kindly suggest you (if you haven't done yet) to give a try at the latest lvsw rom (3.24.0.4) as, at least for me, it seems more stable than the black 2.0 with all the applications I use and I've installed (and they are a bunch) and most importantly it doesnt give me anymore freezing wireless problems.
And please let know how it goes.

I don't know if this is a solution for you mate, but X-button has known issues anyway.
I find that the issues happen if I activate the 'close progs with x-button' option ONLY, i.e. if I also activate the today x-button OR use 'press and hold to close' option - or both - I have no problems.
That said, I use Magic Button. Never experienced any issues at all with that and it's got a great interface. Only a few k in size too. Just my choice though.
This problem already reported. Install 1.5 instead.
anybody knows a working replacement for vbar with WM6? vbar itself isnt developped anymore i think... it destroys the design of the taskbar.
what i liked there: fast and easy taskmanager - and showing 2 microbars for batterystatus and memory. additionally it is always visible and accessible - not like xbar.
I thought someone should start a thread Window Mobile phone series because there is very little community discussion about them. They run off the 6.1 pro version. I personally have had a some success modifying my Traveler 127. i installed M2D in landscape mode thanks to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=488017 the only problem with the install with that i had to use Manila2D 1.00.1819.2926 build to get the interface itself to run but other than that, its great. i can't remember where i got that build but i still have the file and can upload if needed. But anyways I think these are great phones and with everyones help I'm sure they can be even better.
I really can't be the only person with one of these phones, can I?

Well unfortunately i have no idea how to cook ROM's, I'm really hoping by starting this thread that it will catch the eye of someone who can, also the more people that see this thread, the more people that may responed with new ideas, programs and interfaces that they have got to work on their Traveler.
The more we talk the more this thread stays on the first page of the forum and everyone gets to see it.
So thanks for replying, by the way what Programs or Interfaces have you tried on your Traveler 117
Hey buddy,
Actually, I didn't start to handle deeply this traveler.. I am really waiting for some good news about the resources to cook a new rom for it.. because I really don't like this current WM version.
If someone reads this and have access to this information, please post here.
Regards,
you should really the M2D interface i posted. I wasn't at all impressed with SPB Mobile Shell that came with my Traveler 127. So after about two weeks of hunting and trail and error (obviously not every second was dedicated to finding this, i do have to work for a living) I forund M2D interface (HTC Homescreen interface) which acts as a Today Screen Plugin for our WM6.1 pro devices. It's really slick and works with error. I also found an "touch and sweep" type that works with our devices that allows you to scroll like the iphone rather than using the scroll bar itself. I can post this as well if anyone is interested.
Cheers

SPB mobile shell is alright but I just find there are too many steps involved in simple operations. I have infact tried a registered copy of spb mobile shell 3.0 and still too many steps. that's why I use the M2D interface, fewer steps.
What I would really like is for someone to cook a WM6.5 ROM for these phones.
Cheers
I just bought a Pharos Traveler 137 and have already installed the Topaz Comm Manager onto it. I had to change the following registry key after installing it to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > HTC > Comm Manager > WLAN > DeviceName=98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}\UFMP1
I'd really like to find out how similar the device is to HTC devices as far as hardware and ROM similarity is concerned. I'm experiencing some skipping during playback of MP3s that wasn't cured by performing a hard reset. It would be nice to fix that.
Cook a rom for Pharos Travler
Anyone get extract the files from official Pharos rom to cook a WM6.5 rom?
There has to be more than three of us with these phones, come guys start talking!
Have had my 137 for just over a week and it seems to be a good phone but the old bugbear of BT voice dialling not working is here. Problem is MS Voice command can be activated by pressing your BT headset but the audio is sent to the device, not the headset. Anyone have any ideas to get it working?
ROM update
Pharos released a new ROM update yesterday. it is the same 20778 build of wm with a Pharos build date date of 6/25/09. not seeing a lot of changes, the double tap effect with single press is still present and it has been reported the blue tooth and voice dial problem still exist. hopefully now that a rom has been released for download someone will start thinking about cooking for the device. first we need HARD SPL!!!
FYI: A mod for Pharos stated in the Pharos Forum that they are NOT curently working on release of 6.5 for any traveler device. i hope this was some sort of mistake.

hey superman4545,
I am also looking for different options and I'm interested in your findings. If you could post them would be great. particularly curious of the "touch and sweep" option you mentioned. I myself have been using FTouchSL.
A couple of things I've installed...
1. touchpal keyboard (best word suggestion and correction options I've tried to date landscapemode is not the greatest could be larger)
2. PHMregedit
3. Opera 9.7 beta
4. s2u2 latest build found unlocking works smoother when on rawbuffer instead of direct draw but don't take my word as written in stone.
5. pandora with the "vga fix" (this could still use a lot of work but glad it plays)
6. garmin xt
7. total commander
8. FTouchSL
scrolling
i have attached htc scroll. after install navigate in the registry to HKCU\ControlPanel\Gestures\Touch\Disabled and set Decimal value to 0 and soft reset. now you will have htc kinetic scrolling that will not interfere with other programs such as pointui, mobile shell 3 of TF3D.

8. FTouchSL

Here you go, first download this build of the M2D interface http://rapidshare.com/files/149919545/Manila2D_1.00_1819.2926-xplode.CAB then just follow the instructions on the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=488017 But do not replace Backup file and do not do the reset defaults, and finally only install the rapidshare build, audio manager, album manage, and M2D config otherwise the interface will not loadand use these files and you should have no problems with the HTC M2D interface.
Enjoy!

Just wondering if this ROM update was for the Traveler 137?
Glad to see a thread here on this phone
I have had my Pharos 137 just about 24 hours now. What a *quirky* phone. I'm just starting to customize it a bit. Anyone else seen weird interactions with bluetooth accessories? It seems to have crashed my BT stereo headphones - they won't shut off or interact with anything, am waiting for the battery to die so I can recharge and see. (FWIW they're cheap Best Buy house brand - Insignia)
Pandora will work on this phone. A bit challenging to get it installed, still haven't figured out a graceful way to shut it down. Very cool having 3g speed for Slingplayer Mobile.
superman4545,
yes, the updated rom is for the Pharos Traveler 137.

i have attached htc scroll. after install navigate in the registry to HKCU\ControlPanel\Gestures\Touch\Disabled and set Decimal value to 0 and soft reset. now you will have htc kinetic scrolling that will not interfere with other programs such as pointui, mobile shell 3 of TF3D.

thanks for the cab jlavoie also thanks to you superman...
One quick question for ya jlavoie...or anyone that might know for that matter
the scrolling works great for everything except when reading a message in outlook I can scroll through inbox and other folders but not on messages themselves any ideas? I haven't found any reference to this in particular.
Using Pharos 137 btw...
thanks again!
Hi All,
First of all BRILLIANT website ... keep the good work up guys ... please bear with me with a few question that i have no idea about. Thought i'd put this all in one thread rather than 4 different ones:
1) Does it actually matter which cab file (i don't know what you call it ExtRom? please let me know what exactly you call it so it's easier for me to search for in the future) to use with which version of OS? Currently i'm on WM6.5 Build 23004 WWE R7.1 and i think i downloaded some can file from WM6.1 or something
2) Where can i find TouchFlo for WM6.5 Build 23004 WWE R7.1?
3) I installed the HTC Manila2d on my XDA iis but can not seem to find it any where, do i need to install something else besides this to be able to view the application
4) Most of the time when the backlight goes off on my XDA IIs, i press the power button to bring the screen back up only to find that the screen has gone white and then i have to reset my XDA a couple of times ... to get it working i have to make sure that i'm constantly working on some app for a good few minutes before i leave the screen light to go off
Would appreciate if you can help me with this. Many thanks in advance.
1. yes it most certainly does. if you had upgraded to wm6.1 and tried an extrom of wm6.5 you would probably be disappointed that some of the programs like internet explorer, office or wm6.5 specific stuff wouldn't work. the extrom is a bunch of cabs to install certain programs after a hard reset. that's why you should have a look inside the extrom and maybe google some of the cab names and decide, whether you relly need them or not. for example, if you never use java, mss, or pdf documents, leave jbed, arcsoft and adobe reader out of the extrom and save a lot of space on your device. in general, the rom chef gives a link to the extrom, fitting the rom best, but i think the last official extrom, released by a chef was with xplode's 21202. that is the one you want to take for the newest internet explorer and office and other useful stuff.
2. what? touchflo in general means... nothing. there are 3 aspects of touchflo: touchflo3d (=Manila2d), touchflo cube and sometimes touchflo is also referred to, when it comes to finger friendlyness and touch scrolling.
to be short, the touch scrolling is always on in wm6.5 and it is also quite finger friendly. about the rest... forget it.
3. you know, manila 2d is sooo 2008
manila2d is, as you might know, opticly comparable to an animated version of htc home with a bunch of extra features, and also, like htc home (or the above mentioned touchflo cube) it is improving the today screen of wm6 and wm6.1 devices. it might also work on wm6.5, but for that to be even remotely possible, you have to lose the titanium home (default today screen plugin of wm6.5, with the sliding and all...) so go to start->settings->today->items and unselect windows default and then manila might work for you, which still begs the question:
why would you want manila when you can have titanium?
manila is slow & outdated (if you ever even get it to work, most versions won't do on the BA), while titanium is new, modern, highly customizable, hip, trendy and most important of all, works extremely fast on the BA.
4. ok, assuming that you already checked the backlight and power settings, that leaves a few other things to check:
- does it also do the white screen, if you press the power button in the first place, to switch it off and then turn back on?
- did you do anything in the upgrade process differing from "the book"?
- did you try a hard reset? if you just upgraded, you have nothing to lose?
even more stuff would come to mind, but first post back if any of the things are done so far.

Hi Chef Tony, mate honestly i really do appreciate taking your time and explaining this what was once all french to me. Ok i totally get the idea of ExtRoms and Cab file. So assuming that if i use one of the 6.1 cab files on a 6.5 it should work correct?
Apparently i downloaded Manila2D from this forum, installed it but that didn't work ... i went to start->settings->today->items and unselect windows default and but it comes up as blank screen (home screen) and also i could see TouchFlo as an option and when i select that it takes me back to the home screen saying "Tap here to activate TouchFlo", no matter how many times i tap, nothing happens. So correct me when i say this, this TouchFlo which was showing up on the options is actually a Manila2D app right? I saw a video last night on youtube which said TouchFlo on XDAiis (sorry but can't find the exact link to it) and it looked something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJFBifvgSgA i mean the interface and the screen tapping.
As far as the screen is concerned, it never used to do this but since i've upgraded to 6.5 it has started to. I followed the exact same process what the book said because i'm the sort of a person who follows the book and nothing besides that ... besides i've hard rest it as well but that still did not help. Ok here's what happens (i think), when the device is battery powered, it will white screen when the device is not used for a few minutes (sleep mode or whatever you may call it) but it does not happen when it's on external power because it's always on any way.
in general an extrom from wm6.1 would work on wm6.5 flawlessly. but as mentioned before, the versions of the internet explorer and office changed dramatically. you should include the newer cabs there.
this tap here to activate touchflo is exactly the manila, and normally it should start up then, but as mentioned before, there is no guarantee, every version would work with the BA, but i had a version once, that worked in general, it was just a little slow and some features wouldn't work, which is perfectly normal. you should have a look at this thread and maybe try the versions given there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340932&highlight=iolite
also you'll find other neat stuff there.
if you really want manila as your GUI, maybe you should try a nice wm6 or wm6.1 rom, because manila is really sucking cpu and ram, and with most wm6.5 roms those resources are optimized for titanium and even with titanium switched off, they just consume more hardware than wm6.1 for instance. it will run better then.
but your last sentence there is confusing me. what exactly do you mean, when you say white screen? is it actually showing all white, with backlight, or is it more like the display is off, a pale grey without backlight? if it is the first option, it seems there is actually a tiny problem there, could be together with manila, back in the day, when i ran it, i experienced sort of a third boot splash screen with manila installed and the device would take forever to boot up, soft resets were a major buzzkill then.
if it is the 2nd option, then it is perfectly normal and you can go to start->settings->system->power and set the device to never switch off on battery power, but instead just switch off the backlight.
last but not least (ok, i should have written this above): the video you posted!
the first 48 seconds don't show any manila stuff, that is called s2u2, slide 2 unlock a keylock app, you can download for free, from another forum member here, called A_C, on his site here: http://s2u2.ac-s2.com/ (all credit to A_C)
i wouldn't exactly count on the photo and video function to work on a BA either, as shown about 1:20
at 1:50 the youtube app is not part of manila either, but you can download something like that here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=385227 or the official one here: http://help.youtube.com/support/youtube/bin/topic.py?hl=en&topic=20991
i really wonder what the last app was, he showed, since i don't have sound at the moment, i can't tell whether he mentions it maybe, but probably doesn't matter anyway, because you are not looking for a paint clone, but for a nice GUI
hope this could bring you a little bit further in getting your device customized. let me know, whether everything worked out as planned.

Hi Chef Tony,
Trying Titanium on Xplode's v7.1 but cannot get my normal Today plugins selected - Pocket Breeze, Device lock, Comms, and a Programme Bar.
Is there an easy way to do this? (In M2D customisation you can set the Today page plugins...)
Thanks.
the titanium blocks everything else.
when you go to start->settings->today->items you see, by default, there is a list of a lot of plugins, but the only one that is checked is the titanium home, there called "Windows Default" for instance date and time is unchecked, which does not mean, you don't see the time in your today screen as a clock is also part of titanium. if you decide to work with m2d or other normal today plugins, you need to uncheck Windows default and then you will have access to the old today screen with the static, yet small, list of items. and then you have the opportunity to use all your today plugins. if you want to use titanium home and have plugins for that look for "titanium plugins" or "chome plugins".
and the plugins of titanium can be monitored, sorted and (de-)activated in "titanizer"
all those things in " " can be found in the forum, just have a look in development & hacking section or use the forum search
