Thread for Canadians, Good News - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

Unless you have already heard, Rogers Wireless as of DEC 5th, is carrying the HTC Diamond for 199.99 on 3 Yr Contract. Just ordered mine (previously had Hermes 200). I have a few questions;
1) Do i have to unlock to be able to flash or add radios and cooked roms?
2) What is the best radio for reception in Toronto?
3) Do i need a DATA PLAN to have the gps working?
4) What is the best BELT holder for the phone?
Thanks in advance!!!!

1) Yes you have to CID unlock the phone (not the same as sim unlock) to do this for free look at the stickys on the top of this diamond rom dev topic.
2) Radios aren't region based so the best radio for Toronto would be the best for everyone and every other region, you will have to judge them yourself (look at stickys for them)
3) No, its built into the phone, but unless you purchase a gps program like tom tom or on course, you will be forced to use google maps which requires a data plan if you want to use it outside a wifi area and on the road or you can use your service provider's software that requires either a fee per use or some plan ( I don't know the specifics for rogers)
4) Sorry can't help with that I don't use them.

Canadian Question.

Excuse me for being a bit of a newbie, but I am going over to the UK next week and I want to get an XDA II from O2 and then use it while in the UK (where I will be off and on over the next year or two a fair amount), but I also want to be able to bring it back to Canada (Calgary) and then get a Rogers Sim card and have a local number in Calgary as well as the one in the UK, and just switch Sim cards as I travel. From what I understand, this is possible using the unlock software posted on this forum, but I just wanted to clarify that I am correct in my assumption and that I will have full functionality of the XDA II in Canada (providing I pay for the services I am looking for, through Rogers). I have never had a GSM phone before (always CDMA thru Telus) and so I am not really familliar with it all - sorry. Also, can I just go into any Rogers reseller and purchase a Sim card (with the local number on it) and the services I want and then just pop it in? Are they all standard or are there any differnces between the Sim cards in the UK and Canada? (again - please excuse my ignorance when it comes to this technology!). Thanks in advance for your help!
Hi,
You have to unlock the XDA2 with the software on this forum
You wont lose any functionality
All gsm sims are the same (within scope of this thread)
Keep in mind that the XDA2 Software is customized for O2, ie. GPRS, SMSC, Voicemail and what have you got settings will stay those of O2.
You wil have to change those manually when going from one sim to another.
You might want to look at a dual sim adapter. This is a device you put into the sim holder and that can contain 2 sims itself. By switching off an in the XDA2 radio (=phone) you change sim. Advantage is you wont have to open the device every now and then.
I can recommend a dual dim adapter by the name of 'king of double card'. You will need type MAI-E. They are sold on eBay for approx GBP 6 by a guy called saintjoy0_3.

New User of the Touch pro II

Hey evryone
After a long search for a new mobile phone, and getting rid of my sony ericson cybershot i have chosen the new HTC touch pro II
The phone just looks amazing and i cant wait to get started with it.
Since im a total nub in the smartphones i have registered myself here in the hope to learn as much as fast as possible.
Since im unfamiliar with the software vocab like rom etc i was wondering if there exist any guide on this site that explains all the technical info.
Furthermore something i forgot to mention while ordering if the phone is sim- lock free, i think i read somewere it standard comes sim free, but maybe some1 can confirm this to me.
thx

hi welcome to the forum mate and don't worry you be fine. check out the tweaks thread by beast for some of the goodies already available for this device. check in HTC Blackstone/Touch HD forum for a comprehensive guide on the whole rom thing! basically the rom is the image file on your phone like a pc running windows 7. in phone case your rom is wm6.1. once hard spl is released there will be various people producing custom roms for your device which is in effect like upgrading from XP to Vista to Windows 7. there will be roms on offer from wm6.1(official) and wm6.5(currently beta) so you can customise your phone. currently we are waiting hardspl which is work in progress. all the tools you will need to flash your phone will also be available soon.
now at simlock issue. most people are reporting that tp2 come sim unlock from vodafone but the isue is that the phone will contain vodafone customisation and their rom. if you buy a debranded phone from an online stockist or from MPD it come unlocked and with generic software. this means that will be compatible with any network and phone will have HTC software on it. this means that you will be able to benefit from upgrades direct from HTC and not wait for the likes of vodafone to possibly release it. you will find that most software upgrades will be made readily available by HTC but the network providers seem to hold us to ransom.
Thanks for the fast reply
As for the branded story, i did order my phone from a provider called KPN, its dutch and it is part of a extension on my mobile phone subcription which was due. Im pretty sure it will come branded, but is there any way to find out if its branded or not by looking at the mobile and its software itself?
As for unbranding it, i already read that, when the hard spl is released, there should be no problem getting rid of the CID. Therefore the branded/ sim part can be taken care off.
the only thing im worried about, since im new to this, is the risk of ruining a prefectly good mobile phone, hehe. Is the risk high? However i have already seen proffesional websites advertising payed sim unlock/ something to do with a EMEI code which will returned with an unlock code upon payment.
Futhermore i was looking for the following answer about data usage. Since i travel allot within the EU my data usage abroad ( within eu) will form a cost on top of my monthly subscription fee. Are there programs that monitor your data usage? I just read that the price for 1 MB from july 1 in holland under KPN will go down from 7,95 to 2,95 <-- this is when you have a internet subcsription ( without 3,95).
I would like to avoid high unexpected phone bills, and i have the feeling that with the touch pro II, i want to go more online haha.
so for example watching a youtube movie or visiting websites (news items)
how much does this normally translate in data usage?
thanks in advance

couldn't say as i got unlimited data plan in uk and when i travel i use one of them cheap sims that give low cost everything. watching a youtube will defo increase data usage thus cost alot. if your phone is branded it will have your service provider marks stamped all ovber phone. if it is not it will be pure HTC. you will know straight away so don't worry. yep IMEI unlocking can be done remotely using data cable and connecting to unlock server or via order form thru site. for the latter you send your phone details including IMEI number which they send to HTC to get generate your unlock code which you receive via email. you will know when you receive phone whats what and then take any steps you need to!

Rhodium questions

Hey TP2 owners
1. How easy is it to unlock the TP2 from the original tmobile brand?
2. Will this be significantly faster than the HTC Touch 3G?
3. I want the TMOBILE version of the phone, so I can personally use my Tzones on their 3G network. If I unlock the phone (for hard spl purposes), would the 3G bands change? I may just stay with the original software if that's the case. EDGE is just wayyyyy too slow!
I'm planning to buy two TP2, but one needs to be unlocked so my wife could use it on AT&T. I don't want to pay an extra $50-100 just for an unlocked one, so hopefully it's easy to unlock.
Also, this means the 2x Touch 3G I have would be for sale with over $200 in accessories/extras
Thanks!
could someone please help me? I just got a TP2 for $273 sealed brand new on ebay
Congrats you got a good price.
Get rid of the stock ROM inmediately!
My 1st TP2 was a Tmob and on day 1 I got rid of it and performance increased!
Not hard at all. See below.
Possibly. There is a faster processor and better GPU acceleration, but a larger screen uses much more processing power.
No, the bands are a product of the internal hardware antenna, and HardSPL would not change them.
SIM Unlocking:
If you're a TMobile customer whose been a reliable subscriber for a few months at least, you can usually call T-Mobile Customer Service and say you're going to Europe and need it unlocked. You'll give your IMEI and they'll email the unlock code and instructions in a few days if everything goes well. Just make sure that you're on stock ROM when you do this, or else it won't work.
Alternatively, if you can't do that, I advise you to take a look at this program which will SIM unlock your TP2, as well as unlock it in other more technical ways.

[Q] Going International

I have an old verizon touch pro2, not my main phone anymore, went out of contract, upgraded to another phone.
I just HSPL unlocked it, and put on energy rom on it (Energy.RHODCDMA.29022.Titanium.Jul.06)
Anyways I'm planning to goto thailand and I want this phone to work on DTAC
What steps should I take to be sure the phone will work over there? Should I grab the Amazon 'T-Mobile Sim Card Prepaid Kit' to test with?
Do verizon people have to do: rhodiumw.htc-unlocks.com
(it was advertised as a world phone, but I dunno if that means the phone is unlocked)
And last question, should I flash the radio? it has 1.88.07WV
I don't expect I would have internet access were I'm going, just trying to bang this out now. Sorry for links like they are, member for a long time reading, I just don't post.
I would flash the newest VZ radio (2.37WV).
Also, as I understand it the SIM slot is only locked from US carriers - so if you want to use the device on a US carrier, you have to do the SIM unlock. However, (again this is how I've always understood it) if you just want to use it internationally, it should "just work". Just need to make sure you force it in GSM mode.
Thanks, I just updated the radio, hopefully its good to go... but I see they sell DTAC sims on ebay, so I'll grab one of those... as far as I can tell, I should know right away if I need the unlock code.

Importing S7 active to Europe

Dear xda
First off, I absolutely love the concept of this phone: strong, big battery, great hardware,... and I dont really mind touchzwiz (the way it is now).
I'm wondering if it interesting to import the s7 active to Europe or not. As far as my research goes, this is what i found out:
at&t has an unlock service via their website
íll have to pay import duty and VAT (is this also the case if I purchase a "used" phone?)
at&t's s7 active supports all bands, so no problem there
at&t has some bloatware which shouldn't be to much of a problem to remove
updates will suck big time, unless we get root and we update the rom ourselves.
If anyone has info about Samsung introducing the s7 active to Europe, please let me know.
Wondering this myself
Yes it will work. Relatives just went to Europe with 3 S7 Actives we got att to unlock as they were bought outright. Work fine on Wind and Cosmote carriers, and will be sold to friends before they return.
Package Disabler Pro works to disable samsung and att updates and bloatware without root.
Those 3 Actives will pay for mine; sometimes carrier exclusivity is a great thing.
Wondering about the import duty and VAT if I import a used phone.
Anybody know?
There's plenty of post on what to disable manually so no need to pay for an app as it does the same thing. If it's convenience you want then the app will help but there's plenty of post for all provider variants of Samsung phones on xda and reddit.
Import duty and taxes will always have to be paid. If you buy second hand make sure a proof of purchase is included otherwise they will charge the tax of a new phone. You can get a friend to take one home with him/her and they will not pay.
I've bought the S7 Active this week in Switzerland. The phone was unlocked already. Inserted the SIM card from my local provider Swisscom and it works perfect.
Only what I do miss: no BT SAP support.
Hiow did you manage that? Where/who did you buy it from?

No option to do software update with s7 active.
Hi anyone know how to get ota updates on the s7 active in the UK?
You don't. Updates need to be flashed from the sd card or with a computer via odin.
Hello
I've about the same questions for an use in France : how difficult is it, once received (supposively an ATT one unlocked), to update up to last android version oreo and is there a loss of functionnalities if not used in USA..?
Thanks in advance
Julien
I use it regulate in Italy (un-lock of course) Oreo 8.0 G891AUCS4CRG3, I'm looking for a way to improve reception, perhaps replacing the modem software with another modem software
Hello
Thanks @Matad1974 for your reply, so it's possible to use it in Europe without too much difficulties and loss of functions..? Which method did you used (OTA/KiES/Odin) ?
About reception isn't it because there are bands missing..? I've read somewhere using code #*#*4636*#*# you can choose bands, have you try ?
Thanks in advance
Julien
Hello, I bought it directly from the United States already unlocked, it works well, but the reception is a bit poor sometimes, where before with the same card took good, and when I talk to someone my voice sometimes is not very understandable .. because of this maybe changing the modem maybe it gets better.
With this code #*#*4636*#*# it does not do anything to me
I took a ride on the internet and I found this code, I try various settings code *#2263#
I can recommend it for european users as well. You lose some of the newest features I think, like Wifi calling.
Updating is pretty simple but a little inconvenient since the update does wipe all your data. There is a thread in this forum that can help you.
Also you should only buy from a thrustworthy seller, but that's just common sense.
(Changing bands can also be done with an app, for example "Network Switch")
