USB adapter. I just love the Elf phone. The only things I am disappointed in is that I cannot plug in a set of external speakers. I cannot plug in to the charger whilst watching a film as I need the socket for the headphones...
Does anyone know of an adapter to enable me to do this please? I could get one made up from the diagram, however I would prefer to buy a custom made one.
Roz
maybe something like this?

The Elf has only a USB socket, nothing else... No phono or whatever they call it... For me this is the only fault with a superb little phone.
Thanks anyway.
dont know about the elf but all other newer htc devices have a special usb connector which also carry audio
if your device came with a headset then yours do too
as they device dont support usb host so it cant use any usb devices
nm just saw my link was wrong :S

3Way USB adapter for HTC Touch/Elf
There is in fact a 3 way adapter available. I found it after a bit of a search. For some reason some of you seemed to think I was looking for a headset. The USB socket on the HTC Touch does not allow you to use anything else other than the supplied USB headset. however I want to use a set of Sony speakers for the sound to play MP3's and as I like to watch films in bed through ORB I like to be able to charge the phone at the same time. The process uses a lot of battery power.
The adapter I found has a stereo jack socket and 2 USB sockets the same as the one on the phone. So now I can plug in my head set and charger or charger and speakers in any form I choose.
If anyone else is interested here is a link where you can buy one for about £12.00 which includes postage: http://www.elitextreme.com/htcto31ad.html
The pictures show what I was talking about...

Oooops! sorry Rudegar I missed your post for it already.
HTC 3 way adapter
No Expansis do not carry one. The link I left earlier does. I have mine now. It is exactly what I wanted. Cost me £12.95. Well worth it.
OK, so this is *almost* what I'm looking for:

Does anyone know where to get an 11pin to 3.5mm adapter? One that *only* has a 3.5mm stereo output instead of having stereo+usb output?
Thanks.

Thanks for the find, but will it work even if it's for the TyTN and not specifically for the Touch?
And is it stereo as opposed to just mono?
i would asume that htc dont change the wireing of their miniusb connector flavour with each device it would serve no purpos and would cost alot for htc
i would asume that if stereo is in the miniusb connector when used for normal wired headset it would be using that converter
as it would serve no purpos for the converter to add the eletronics it would require to just take 1 channel and spit it in 2 without lowering the the volume to ½ because of the impedanc
can the evo do video output via rca cable? i.e. the red yellow and white?
It sure can!

I was also wondering about this. Does the cable work for the droid incredible work with a evo.
Heres a youtube with the incredible using the cable.

The droid incredible use mini usb and with the wirefly video, a htc act100 tv out cable. The Evo have micro-hdmi type D to hdmi. I not sure there a micro-hdmi to rca tv-out cable.

The incredible has a micro-usb slot too, just like the Evo
anyone try the incredible cable out with an evo yet?
not same connector.
It's a feature of the Incredible, not the EVO.
Besides, HDMI out better...lol
Yes, you can get a converter to go from Micro HDMI to HDMI to Composite, but they aren't cheap. The reason is that Composite is an analog signal and HDMI is digital. HDMI carries both high definition video and surround sound audio on a single line.
So, you're going to lose image quality and you're going to spend a fair amount of money (I believe) to convert the signal.
If you don't have a TV with an HDMI port, that would be what you need to work on, not changing the signal from the phone. All new devices use HDMI now, it's the standard.
evo RCA cable
I'm not sure if this thread has closed. I have a similar question. I had the touch pro and bought the factory wire that was usb to RCA (red, white, yellow). I have the evo now and need a similar wire. Reason being is i have my car navigation modified to accept a video source, but its input is the yellow RCA, not HDMI. Does anyone know if they will make a cable similar to the touch pro or if there is some kind of dongle or converter piece that can be used.
Thanks

i would like to do that with my evo too.
edit #1
actually, it want it to output google maps and pandora mainly, so maybe i'll have to wait for the final cyanogen rom and a hdmi to composite adapter...that doesn't sound like fun at all. Did we ever figure out if the micro-to-rca cable from the incredible even works for the evo? I would buy one just to find out...
google, here i come...
found one!
edit #2
this guy said he already bought the cable and "it doesn't fit in the evo's usb port". That doesn't really make any sense though, does it... Hmmmmm.
Maybe it does, i remember the port looked a little goofy on the droid inc. oh well, c'est la vie.
edit #3
man, i'm on fire today i guess. No one really cares probably, but here is the difference:
+ 1 for this.
The HDMI port is mostly useless for me. I use my video out on the TP2 for a screen in the car that my kids watch, or my projector (neither of which support HD).
One of the reasons I'm considering the EVO versus any other Android offering is because I actually use the TV out on my current phone, and most other phones don't offer this. But it appears that I'm no better off (buying a bulky composite converter is out of the question). This is soooo disappointing!
The incredible can do something the EVO can not?! tsk tsk...

lol come on now. My VCR has composite out, but that doesn't mean my blu-ray player should.
Hello Everyone..
I have found this website very usefull and would like to thank everyone for the great information given so far regarding HTC Touch Pro 2..
I have a HTC Touch Pro 2 and the details about its ROM version and Operating system are listed in my signature...
I have a SONY car mp3 car audio system inbuilt in my car.. It has USB support ------ but no bluetooth support.
I wish to use the car system as follows.. Say if I plug my HTC Touch Pro 2 as USB to my car system, then it should play the audio from my mobile.
At the moment, it does so, but my car simply considers my phone as a USB device..
But, my requirement is something different... Say if I play a video in my HTC Touch Pro 2. But I wish to use my car speakers for playing the audio of the ongoing video in my mobile.
Is it possible?
Like mentioned earlier, if I plug my mobile to my cars USB, it simply plays as USB device, where I have no control on my phone sound files. But I wish to use the car speakers for any video file that I play on my mobile.. Can this be achieved?
Looking forward for any kind of helpful information...
Or to be more particular with my requirement...
I wish to use my HTC Touch Pro 2's screen as video screen and use my car speakers for the sound output. Both can be connected via USB as my car system supports USB.
I do not have bluetooth in my car system.
Need a solution if this can be achieved..
Isn't there any solution to my request?
Only way I could think is to plug a male-to-male audio cable from your phone to your receiver's line-in jack (hopefully if it has USB, it also has a standard 3.5mm line in).

Excellent mate... Indeed it did the trick.. I now have mini home theater in my car
Too good man.. too good.. Thanks StaticMatt.. Wish I could add some kind of reputation to you
I have the Fuze and now the Tilt 2. The nice thing HTC created was the TV out feature. I found the right cable after a lot of searching, and I have my Tilt 2 in my Proclip mount, which is mounted on the dashboard, the cable runs from the mount back inside the dash, where the port connections split up for power and A/V out. I have power feeding the cable which keeps the Tilt 2 charging at all times and the A/V cable plugs into the back of my Pioneer AVIC D-3 and wala, anything I see on the Tilt is also visible on the AVIC, and all sound comes through the car audio system.
I have my slingbox mobile installed on the Tilt so I can connect to my satellite receiver at home and watch anything I want and also load movies on the 16GB microSD card. It has amazing picture quality and the sound is perfect. When a call comes in, the movie or TV pauses and resumes once the call is finished.
I really couldn't ask for more. It's especially handy when you are waiting for someone and you have time to kill, or you want to watch the latest episode of Glenn Beck at 5PM EST and can't get home in time. It's also nice for reading those emails and text messages while at a stop light because of the big screen on the AVIC.
Obviously, it's not a good idea to be watching TV while driving so anything over 5 MPH and the AVIC video display goes dark, but the audio keeps on humming!
Ahhh Life is good!

No problem
Hi Devs,
first of all, sorry for starting a new thread, but searched the forum and didn't find exactly that.
Like I've read, there is no audio over USB support built-in to our mighty Desire.
I tried a few different microUSB to 3.5mm jack adapters from ebay - even one declared as for HTC Desire. Checked the usb-pins-assignment also and it seems that HTC hasn't built in (or turned off) that function in opposite to some other manufacturers.
So will it be possible to write a rom or a kernel, that'll support that?
If it is possible, I would appreciate a few hints what I'll have to do, to get this thing working!
Thanks in advance!
Can I know why you need that? Is it for A/V out?

Its not possible to send analog audio signal over the usb since its a standard usb plug. Only the old htc phones with extUSB had audio, but its was a bigger plug with more pins.
On that note i dont get why you want to get audio from there, when theres a nice 3.5mm jack socket on the top of the phone.

Thanks for your quick answers!
Yes, since there are no music docks for desire I built my own and it has to be possible, other phones with microUSB have that function - why not ours?
I know the old extUSB plug from my magic, there it is no problem. But there must be a way to get this working! I think it is only a software and/or driver issue.
If you'll get a music dock you'll have to plugin the phone + jack everytime? ? ? Look on ebay there are a few universal docks over microUSB, but not working for the nearly best and most sold android phone on market?
Pls give me some hints if there is a way to do that - everything is possible!
Sent from my HTC Desire

Umm, well not really. Because who says that the USB port of your phone is connected the right way internally to actually SEND data over the cable/dock.
I have no idea on how to do it. Thats just what I think, but with Android, a LOT is possible

YEAH IT IS!
On Nexus one they built in extra pins for docking and audio over that works like a charm.
I'm having a few adapters microUSB to 3.5mm jack for Motorola,Samsung,Nokia...phones from ebay, but not one reaction from Desire
Maybe the adapter for Desire needs a Digital-to-analog converter to get analog audio out of the microUSB port.
But no technical details over that from HTC - does anyone know more about the microUSB connections on our Desire? Tried to get a technical manual for Desire, but no chance on google...
If there is no other solution, I'll have to disassemble my expensive Desire to get a view on connections and maybe some hints which IC is managing the microUSB.
Does any dev know what would be possible by modding a kernel or rom?
Thanks in advance!

im also looking for something like this, though i want digital-audio out. for example in my car, plug and play so i get spotify from my usb to my stereo and able to control spotify from my stereo. there is no problem for this if you use iphone, though id like to be able to do it on my htc.
any solution?
Ability to stream out the audio through USB would be something nice to have.
There's a guide online on how to splice a USB and 3.5mm cable to the Apple USB cord so that you can charge and play audio on ipod accessories, as long as you don't mind having USB and audio plugged in at the same time. http://www.erwanmace.com/2012/07/ipod-dock-android/
I'm waiting for Galaxy Tab 10.1 to be released in order to buy one, but I need to know is there any idea if there is a VGA adapter to connect it to TV via VGA and display presentations on TV. I know that there is HDMI Adapter, but for iPAD2 there is a VGA adapter.
I really appreciates your help

Im not sure that would work.
There are (at least) 2 specs for DVI - DVI-A (Analogue) and DVI-D (Digital) .
HDMI > DVI-D is possible, but AFAIK, HDMI > DVI-A is not, since the output device (your Tab) would need to support analogue signals. For the same reason, you wouldn't be able use a HDMI > VGA adapter.
Im almost certain that the tab does not support analogue timings but you never know.
If it's for work and you're not spending your own money, see if they will buy a converter box for "all those people" who need to use it That's the only way to be sure it will work.

There already exists a cable that plugs into the Samsung proprietary port that outputs an analogue signal through a composite video connector (and stereo RCA plugs for audio). Samsung reps have confirmed that this cable, released for the original Galaxy Tab, will work 100% with the 10.1v and 10.1 (by implication probably the 8.9 too).
Composite to VGA won't work as it has different timings.
Best you can do is something that converts HDMI to VGA by some integrated solution, e.g., HDfury - HDMI to VGA cable, see their forum. Unfortunately you need another extra adaptor to fit the propriatory Galaxy connector. Plus extra power supply for the HDfury (and probably for the Galaxy Tab as well).
This is a deal breaker for all teachers and students that often have to show their content over VGA beamer. Bummer.
@pibach -> thanks for your input, clear, concise and accurate.
I'm on the market for a 10"/HC tablet that has "native" VGA output capability (as in dock connector<->VGA) that would not require an external/powered adapter.
Anyone knows of such rarity?
I have a tattoo/Click, Desire, Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab, so I'm totally addicted to Android. But failing this basic pre-requisite for Corporate environment is a fail in my book and would force me to put my money on the iPad2 despite the shortcomings(including the no-jailbreak current status). Don't get me wrong, I have no trolling intention: I have simple business needs that must be met...
So if you know of any such HC tablet, please let us know.
Cheers,

And you are not the only one. I'm getting 10.1v tomorrow, and hoping that there will be VGA adapter available one day. But for time being HDMI will do.
I just bought one too and I'm really pissed off there's no way to use it for work
even the ipad can output vga :S
i was able to get "something" using HP's hdmi -> vga adapter
Unfortunately, green was missing. Could have been the cable provided locally. If someone is successful in connecting to a VGA projector, let me know.
[Even with proper colors, the need for two dongles and AC power make the GT unsuitable for presentations.]
Anyone knows if Samsung or a 3rd party is working on something?
i'd really like to know that too...
hdmi to vga adaptors
check out HDFURY, expensive but probably good quality
I ended up taking a risk buying a $40 one from chinabuye @ chinabuye.com/hdmi-to-vga-and-3-5mm-audio-converter
works fine, been using it to connect my media player to a comp monitor.
hi guys,
can anyone confirm that there is no official/unofficial available vga adapter for the gtab 10.1?
options that I have seen are those that typically require a separate power supply, which defeats the purpose of having a tablet for mobility purposes.
appreciate any advice!!
unfortunately no, and it doesn't seem samsung is working on it :/

wow.....that sucks.....
this really eliminates the Gtab 10.1 as a useful work/office companion since most enterprises still use vga projectors.....

exactly, I was planning to use it for presentations :/
Did anyone tried this adapter?
http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/computer/categories/cables/1/accessories/NP031AA%23ABA
It seems it doesnt have a power source, it would be portable enough if it was the case
Yes. I could get something on the projector. Colors were off. I didn't have the time to check all connections. But even if it were working, having to rely on AC to power the HDMI dongle makes little sense.
In a pinch, you may want to use http://app.mightymeeting.com/index.html . You'll need a local machine and decent internet connectivity, but you gain mobility in the room and might score wow-points. They have an android app but it doesn't work on honeycomb. You have to start the meeting through their website.
In real life it remains a risky proposition. I could get away with it (I teach. Easy to switch to local machine if something goes wrong), but would never rely on such setup for a conference or other high stakes presentation. I now routinely use mightymeeting with an iPad. MM can save a local version of the presentation file. Never failed. Extremely convenient.
