Hey guys,
first off im a newbie & i have trawled thru countless threads etc. I just bought a Telstra branded Diamond which id like to update to the optus rom (im with them). From wat i undastand, a hardspl is needed before attempting to flash a rom. Ive tried olinex signed, developer edition etc successfully. These are meant to enable u to flash any rom, but wen i try to add the optus or other official rom i get the invalid id error...
Wat am i doing wrong??? Thanks in advanced.
Have you unlocked it yet
Search here for the diamond unlocker utility if you haven't yet. I have a cdma Diamond from sprint but this site is mostly gsm so I'm sure you want to get the right unlocker, not sure what would happen or if the unlockers are different for gsm and cdma but they probably are. Hope I helped.
Unlocked?
It came unlocked from factory, it accepted my optus sim & has functionality. Is that wat u meant?

cid unlock is carrier id unlock basically you want to have your diamond cid unlocked before you flash various carrier roms on it. If it came sim unlocked than cid is probably locked to htc thus constricting you to official htc rom updates only.
cid unlock your diamond and than proceed with flashing other roms.
After more experimenting it worked! Found hardspl unsigned, flashed the olinex 1.93 version followed by flashing optus rom HA-ZAAAAAAAH
What optus rom?
Do you have a link to the optus rom that you used? Was it this one (generic AU)?

I called up t-mobile so I can unlock this dash and use it on cingular and it works fine now. My question is, is it also CID unlocked? I understand that it has to be app unlocked and cid unlocked for me to install the stock HTC rom on it.
Doesnt need to be app unlocked. Needs to be CID unlocked to flash a different ROM, also called super-cid. What yours is now is only sim unlocked, meaning it can work with another operator's sim card.
How would I CID unlock it or even find out if its cid locked?

The T-Mobile Dash comes CID locked out of the box (as do all carrier branded devices, and almost all unlocked devices). To install the stock HTC ROM, you'll need to CID unlock at a place like http://imei-check.co.uk/ for approximately $38.
FYI- with the recent release of WM 6 by T-Mobile, you probably want the WM 6 ROM over the HTC stock one, but hey- it takes all kinds, right?
Well im just asking because what if htc comes out with their wm6? I don't like the t-mobile branded everything haha. But yes I am enjoying the phone very much with wm6.

Thought I'd mention imei-check don't offer a CID unlock but a work around method to let you flash a different ROM. It involves hex editing both the nbf and the romupdateutility.exe among other things. Once the ROM is flashed when you put your sim in the device is locked (data crashed message about contacting your service provider) by their modified boot loader until you run imei-check's sim unlock utility again, which is why you need to pay the $38 for doing this.
ok, i just want to clarify a couple of things before i go and try an upgrade.
i have o2 uk wm5 xda orbit. from the link below

shows that the ROM/device (whichever) is UNLOCKED.
now is this sim unlocked or CID unlocked or does both mean the same, I have tried a Vodafone sim in my device and it worked ok, I want to upgrade to WM6 but i dont want to screw with my device as i use it daily.
can anyone tell me if i have a CID unlocked phone.
cheers guys.
All O2 Xda Orbits are SIMUNLOCKED, but there are CIDLOCKED!
CID Lock V SIM Lock
AFAIK....
CID Lock - means the device is locked to the ROM either by your carrier, if you have a GSM company provided/branded handset (e.g O2, T-Mobile et.c)
SIM Lock - means the service provider will not let you use the handset with another SIM card i.e if SIM Locked, you may not be able to use another service provider SIM on your handset.
I believe O2 now ship their phones SIM UNLOCKED (which is a great thing), therefore you can insert a T-Mobile, Vodafone, Orange et.c SIM into the handset they provided and it would work, however the handsets are CID Locked, so you cannot flash the ROM to another...unless of course you want to try pof's method.
......my 2 cents
joey jojo, I had the same dilema as you. Only difference is I "bricked" my phone by not planning ahead successfully. The best route I would suggest, from my own painful experience, is to pay the £20 to imei-check and get your Orbit CID unlocked first. That way you can flash away to your hearts content if/when a better ROM comes out.
The mistake I made is I flashed a WM5 HTC ROM using pof's method ( worked like a charm i must add ) to test if it would work. Everything worked OK. Then I went on to flash a WM6 ROM. What I failed to realise is that after the ROM is flashed the CID Lock is back in place and you need to then flash AGAIN with the USPL update before flashing to WM6. I failed to spot this and flashed my Orbit to Brick mode. Thankfully O2 have now repaired it under warranty, I have unlocked it with imei-check and now run BEPE's WM6 ROM with no problems at all. WM6 is SO much fater than WM5.
The choice is yours at the end of the day. Your phone.............hope this helps.

Hi,
I have recently purchased a HTC Touch Diamond. I purchased it from Orange UK on contract
My current ROM version is: 1.37.405.1 WWE
Ive tried downloading the ROM from HTC website it says device not supported
Can somebody tell me how to update to latest 1.93 ROM. Anyone here that has bought the phone from Orange UK
PLZ HELP!!
You need to install hardspl in order to install any other ROM than the carrier's stock ROM.
I have a Diamond on Orange UK contract which came with the same ROM.
You need to install HardSPL before flashing any ROM other than an Official Orange UK ROM. I tried the official HTC ROM however I much prefer Dutty's ROM as it yielded better performance. I currently use Dutty's 1.5 and will probably flash 1.7 when it is released this weekend.
How about teh offical 1.93 ROM will I be able to flash that
Can you give me the exact method you used also the hard spl version etc signed or unsigned
As far as I am aware Orange UK haven't released an updated Orange branded ROM yet for the diamond, so the only way to flash a new ROM, whether official HTC 1.93 or other 'cooked' rom based on the official rom is to flash HardSPL 1.4 first (unsigned). If you are not comfortable doing that (there are plenty of threads on the subject), then you will have to wait until Orange UK launch their version of an official HTC rom, probably complete with Orange branded TouchFlo 3D - yuck!.
I used the information in the WIKI useful which contains a link to the following site which gives step by step instructions -
http://www.modmydiamond.info/
You can download the latest European ROM from
http://rapidshare.com/files/1376163...igned_Diamond_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05_Ship.exe
Is this really the case, only way to flash is via hardspl?
I only ask because I have flashed mine twice now with official roms just by extracting the file and running it - worked both times without problems.
Tad confuddled...

Yes, it is. But is not a hard thing to do. Use Hardspl 1.40 (unsigned) and then flash the rom you want

No, you do not always need HardSPL, this depending if your device is CID Locked or unlocked.
Carrier Id or CID - commonly used in the form `CID-Unlocking`. If you purchase your phone (example) from Orange UK (Orange is the 'carrier'), your phone will only accept Orange ROMs or official ROMs (the carrier's ROMs or HTC). If you want to flash ROMs from other carrier, you'll need to CID-unlock your phone, so that your phone will accept other ROMs. This is where HardSPL comes in to play.

Gotcha.. Mine is SIM-Free so that will explain why it can flash without hard-spl then, at least the official roms as I've not tried another yet.
Will give it a try. Will contact orange first or go to their repair centres.
I have noticed the device does get hot with original orange stock rom.
I would recommend if admin makes this thread a sticky will help alot of people out
Newbie question and probably an obvious answer. I have installed HardSPL and upgraded my Radio with no problems. I am a wee bit nervous about a full rom upgrade. What will happen to my orange settings (voicemail etc) and if i were to restore my info and programs using spb backup will that restore everything

@Windoze9t8
So just to confirm, IF I was able to get the official HTC WWE ROM from their website i.e. "RUU_Diamond_HTC_Europe_1.93.401.2_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05", are you saying that CID Locked Orange UK HTC Diamonds would still be able to update using this *without* having to do the HardSPL update first?
Alternatively.. IF the HardSPL is required.. would I need the HardSPL 1.40 (unsigned) as mentioned above.. or should I be looking to use HardSPL 1.38 Signed as the Official Rom has "signed" in the filename?
Sorry for (possibly repeated) questions - I just want to be sure, and no one has replied as concisely as you before
Ok.. please ignore my previous post.
My Orange UK Touch Diamond would not update with that latest HTC Rom without installing HardSPL 1.93 Unsigned.
I couldn't find 1.40 unsigned anywhere, and the ROM *wouldn't* update with any other version (1.37unsigned, 1.38 signed or 1.24mfg)
Using DiamondCustomRUU that came with 1.37, I copied the 1.93 HardSPL into its folder (this updated the SPL via a hard reset), and then used the RUU that came with the Official Update.
Hello all,
I looked at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=413910
If I want to perform Hard Rest (In order to return to clean default ROM 1.37) and then upgrade to ROM 1.93 (WWE_1.93).
Do I only have to download "RUU_Diamond_hTC_Asia_HK_WWE_1.93.831.1.exe" from rapidshare, backup, charge device, connect cable and active "RUU_Diamond_hTC_Asia_HK_WWE_1.93.831.1.exe"?
Or do I have to do something else before (i.e. install hard spl...)?
because it is not "signed" rom from HTC site?
Thanks,
You need to use a Hard SPL if you do not have a original HTC Diamond and want to flash a new ROM.
if you have a HTC Diamond (not CID locked, either by region or carrier) then you can flash official ROMs from HTC.
If it is locked, then you need to flash a Hard SPL, either a developers edition (which means you can flash any ROM) or a signed SPL, which means the ROMs you flash must be signed by the Diamond Team here to say it is ok.
Personally i have the Developer edition SPL, so i can Flash any ROM.
Cheers,
I do I know if I have CID locked ROM

Where did you buy ur phone from?
For example i bought mine from Expansys, just as a handset, so it is not Carrier locked. so therefore i can flash offical HTC ROMs.
But to flash a 'custom' ROM, or a T-Mobile ROM for example, i'd have to flash Hard SPL (which i have )
I bought it from private store...

yeh thats a Hard SPL that doesnt require the ROM to be signed, so you can flash any ROM from this site, and any HTC Official ROMs.
Let me know if u need help with anything else
Help guys, I have a Sprint vogue that was flashed before. It was CID unlocked and has custom ROM on it. My cousin was the one using it then he returned it to me at this state. Problem is the phone does not have any radio. So i tried to bootload it and flash it with a radio but it does not accept it . It's now CID locked.
VOGU100 MFG
SPL-2.01.1000

I tried to flash it with an OEM ROM, Sprint, USC, Alltel, telus, Bell, VZW nothing seems to work. is there any way to ICD unlock this? so i could flash it with an OEM rom. Thanks.
