Alt-locked in Contacts - HTC Excalibur

When in the Contacts view, typing a person's name usually navigates to their contact entry. Some how, my T-mobile Dash has the alt key locked when on that screen so that I get numbers instead of letters. When in other text entry modes such as composing a text message the defaults are correct and I can switch between the various alt and caps modes. This problem seems to only affect the Contacts view and the alt key seems to have no effect. Any ideas? Thanks,

Can’t Select Names When Saving Number to Contacts.

Here is my problem: let’s say that I want to save a new number to an existing Contact. And let’s assume that that new number is in my Call History (i.e., the usual give me a missed call so that I have your new number thing that we all do). Now, if I select the number from my Call History, right click on “Save to Contacts”, the keyboard does not seem to work properly. Other than the keys that have numbers on them (i.e., the keypad letters), the remaining keys do not seem to respond to enable me to find the existing contact. I have to scroll through my contacts to find that person, which is a pain.
For example, let’s say that the contact’s name begins with the letter H. I won’t be able to find her by pressing the “H” key because there would not be any response. However, when I press the letters “W, E, R, S, D, F, X, C, V, Z, or A, I am able to select contacts with such letters appearing in their name. The rest of the keys do not work.
Any tips on where to go in the registry to get this fixed?

BIG problem!!, Text message to contact's secondary number

I have this problem.
I have a contact. He has two mobile numbers. I add both numbers to this contact.
I cannot seem to be able to send a message to the secondary number . It just will not show up when I type the "Name" in the to: field when writing a new SMS.
It only displays numbers marked as "Mobile"
The secondary one is marked as "Home"
I have options for: home, company, work, car.. etc, none of them work.
I cannot send a message even from the contacts screen..,,
How do I resolve this???
I just checked. It totally works fine. Send a new sms. put your cursor where you would type the name and press enter. you get the contact list. select contact and number voila.
next time, it is already in your messages.
yes, saved my day, just checked myself, never thought of pressing enter with the "to:" field empty.
still it should have had an option for setting a secondary mobile.... maybe some registry hacking????
I also noticed this barf today. If you type in the beginning of a person's name to the "TO:" field, it autofills it nicely, but automatically assumes the "Mobile Phone" number field will be used and there's NO way to change it.
The alternative way (press ENTER in the empty TO:-field) works, but again is an extra step too far.
The Windows UI guys really need to get their act together (maybe a bit those TF3D guys too). I'd expect this from a designer temp for his summer job, but not in a mass-market v.6 release in 2009!
I always have this problem,
Pressing ENTER works fine I see. I usually started up a new SMS, then went to "Menu > Add Recipient" and then the contact list is openend too ...
I have the same problem with two persons with alike names:
For example:
Tom Vaan
and
Tom Vaander
In the To: field I type Tom and only get the "Tom Vaan", no way to change it to "Tom Vaander"

Click to collapse
You can also tap on the "TO:" text.

Adding additional email field in contacts?

I've always understood that you could add or change contact fields to accomodate more than 3 email fields. So far I can't seem to figure out how to do that, anyone care to share?
Thanks.
Cyph
I don't think it is possible with Contacts - even Microsoft Outlook supports only 3 email entries.
I wish you could have more than 1 Mobile/Cell Phone number listed for someone. When will M$ change this? Now people do have more than 1 cell phone.
You can use other redundant fields for additional numbers, e.g., I use the Pager field for the 2nd mobile number - not many ppl have a pager where I live these days
i know you can do that, but if you want to text someone, you can only text to numbers listed as mobile (without having to pull up the contact list & manually selecting the number). i type the name of the person i want to text in the "to" field, & only mobile numbers show up when you do that.
Sadly that is a limitation of a lot of the software - they presume you can only text to mobile numbers
I want to text my home number too (where I live you can sms to landlines, provided they have a phone with text capability) but I bypassed the problem using a separate Contacts entry with the home number stored as a mobile number - not convenient I know.
Thanks all.
Someone noted a nice lil work around for convenience, it you add a note to the contact with mailto: in front of it, when you tap on it, it'll launch a new email. Nice.

Contact with multiple numbers -> Easier call

Hey there,
is there any app to do the following:
When tapping a contact from "my contacts" or from my call list without tapping the green call image (I'm using DialerOne) -> Show the numbers of this contact so I can faster change which number to change instead having to open the contacts page and than select the no to call...
Thanks!
Is there any app or flash addon?
Not sure if this will help...
Using the default dialer, if you use the trackpad to highlight the contact, you can swipe left/right with the trackpad to toggle between the contact's different numbers.

Erasing call history on phone dial pad to re-enable auto complete feature?

Hi All,
I am a big fan of the auto complete feature of the numerical pad on my M9.
For those that are not familiar with the feature you simply start pressing the key pad numbers that correspond with a contacts name.
Each character has letters associated with it, e.g.: 2 - ABC, 3 - DEF, etc; so if I want to call 'Adam' I start by typing 232...
The only pain point with this excellent feature is if I accidentally press on the CALL button, rather than the contact details then the literal number that I have typed will be called, i.e.: in the case of the 'Adam' example above the number 232 will be called.
This fact unto itself is not a game changer, however every time that I accidentally click on CALL, and a literal number is called it makes it harder to bring a contact up. So once again using the 'Adam' example; when I type 232 - instead of seeing contact details for Adam I instead see 232! The only way around this is to type the fourth character for the contact, e.g.: instead of 232 I now need to type 2326.
And of course if I accidentally click on CALL when 2326 is entered then it is even harder again to bring up my 'Adam' contact; I then have to start typing a surname as well as a given name!!!
This has made it impossible to use the handy feature on some of my contacts. I have tried deleting the cache for the 'Phone' app in the hope of clearing the call history / memory, but this didn't work.
Is there any way to completely erase the key pads history?
Any help would be fantastic.
Kind Regards,
Davo
There's a tab called "call history" in the dialer app (unless you disabled it). There you can tap onto the three dot menu and choose "delete call history". The phone lets you chose which entries you want to delete, then.
Flippy498,
Your a CHAMPION!! Thanks so much
Kind Regards,
