Imate / Dopod 900 / Universal in Australia

Hi,
I recently bought a Dopod 900 from Taiwan and having read the entire upgrade forum I am still slightly unsure about the best way to switch to English. From my reading I see that O2 has issues with the extended ROM (although I'm unclear what extended ROM really means, my best guess so far is that its preloaded applications) and that the Jasjar suffers from system hangs and performance (speed).
I understand that there are two options readily available to me;
1) Use the O2 ROM located at http://www.my-xda.com/xdaexec_soft.html (since I'm in Australia I just copied their sample phone number into their form to continue on from page 2).
2) Or use the JasJar ROM located at ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/../Uploads/Universal/Shipped ROM/JASJAR_WWE_11353_137_10301/
And if I'm correct, unzip and copy the modified ROM installer (located at ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/../BlueAngel/Tools/) into the folder containing the un-zipped contents of the ROM archive and use MaUpgradeUt_noID to perform the ROM upgrade.
However, I've noticed in the signatures that people have all sorts of different versions of;
a) The OS ROM
b) The extended ROM
c) The radio ROM
I've found out that my Dopod has;
CE Image: 1.13.36
Ext Image: 1.13.134
Radio: 1.04.02
And that the Jasjar ROM image (JASJAR_WWE_11353_137_10301 - which has a filename of JASJAR WWE 11353 137 10402) located on this site is;
CE Image: 1.13.53
Ext Image: 1.13.137
Radio: 1.04.02
I guess the following questions are really targeted towards Australians, since the Jasjar has been available now for a short time and there would be some users downunder, I would like to know;
1) what versions are they running?
2) what provider/plan they are using?
3) what applications are they using (skype, pdf reader etc).
(I noticed on my Dopod, which still has the chinese OS on it, it is installed with KKBox, Pocket MSN, ClearVue PDF, Zip, and Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc).
I do not know what KKBox is. And what's funny is that with the Voice Commander, I happen to know that "saigen" is see-you-later in madarin which stops the Voice Commander application. However I'm not too keen on learning madarin just to run my PDA.
So before I take the plunge and convert to English I would like to get some feedback from locals as to what they are running.
One last point, I got quoted from PDA King in Taiwan (I used a phone card to call) NT$1200 to switch my PDA to English. When I asked them about getting a copy of the OS on CDROM for furture restores I was advised they don't use a CDROM before its burned onto the ROMs. I think they are having me on, considering the talk in these forums, but I'm curious if anyone in Taiwan has had an english conversion done for them by a retailer?

I found a Dopod site at www.dopodasia.com that stated "In addition, new ROM can be downloaded in “Member” section if you subscribed as a Dopod member"
The membership registration page is located at http://210.64.124.195/Dopod_en/member/right.aspx
Unforuntately the registration page is rejecting my serial number, I'm at this moment calling them for help to login. In the meantime, has anyone sucessfully logged on, and what ROMs are available?

Did you manage to register on the Dopod site? My Serial # was accepted but the next page with more detail got stuck on the Account field right after Nickname field. Any idea what you need to enter there?

Not yet, we caught them at the end of the business day. They advised us they would reply via email, but we're gunna call again tommorrow morning as a little reminder.
Are you able to paste a screen shot of the next page, that way I can see what's coming up and maybe ask them direct what they need (save me trying to work it out).

I got in, this is what I did...
1) Selected "have not yet purchased" - this takes me directly to the account details page and bypasses the request for a valid serial number.
2) I thought "Account" was something to do with your provider, it isn't it is the name you want to call your membership account. You use the "account" name and "password" to login. So account can be anything.
3) Then you get sent an email confirmation with an activation link, just click the link and login.
I'm in at the moment the only thing I can see that can be downloaded is the user's manual, the "home page" in the member's area says...

...I think I will still call them and ask them about where the ROMs can be downloaded from as stated in this quote, "In addition, new ROM can be downloaded in “Member” section if you subscribed as a Dopod member." and where the applications and games reside (or a timeline of when they are due).

First one kkbox is music box same as ipod,only can use in Taiwan others
place are useless.
2nd I don't think PDA king in Taiwan can give you any copy of ROM ,
because Dopod don't have any English ROM , they just flush I-mate
or O2 ROM for you,you can get ROM from here as you mention
before.
3th Dopod Taiwan didn't post any ROM upgrade for Dopod 900, I will try
to login Dopod Asia and post here.

I've recieved the following response from Dopod Singapore (www.dopodasia.com). By the way I'm hoping that since the Singapore branch of Dopod is english speaking, that they will have an english version of the Dopod ROM.

Currently we don’t have any new ROMs for Dopod 838 and 900. if we release a ROM code, you will see it.

Help me please find International Roms

I'm a noob in WM5 devices ... somebody help me find ROMs in EMEA languages for my devices based on WM5. T-mobile MDA, Qtec 8310, MDA Vario, T-mobile XDA pro, iPaq 1955
And please answer on my qestions....
1. As i understand if i have universal phone - i can install any universal rom on my device?
2. If I install on my device language support (from Paragon for examle) ... is it normal practice? Does localized applications will work normaly?
As a result I'll collect all roms and made library for newbises like me ... I have some roms now and begining to cre8 library

English ROM for Samsung i780?

I have managed to get hold of a Samsung i780 but from Italy ... problem is it obviously is operating in Italian rather than English and I understand now I can't change the language as you can on Smartphone verus Professional.
Does anyone have an English ROM / firmware I can install? Even Orange branded would be better at this point!
Help much appreciated.

Spoke to Samsung today .... and it would appear that the rumours are true and that no -one including Samsung know how to perform hard reset !!
They also confirmed they would not be able to flash update the ROM to UK version for me .... GREAT !!!
I have located a friendly forum member who has a UK working version and is happy to dump the ROM .... but we don't know how to ....
Can anyone help in a step by step approach to dumping ROM and then creating a flashable version I can use?
Any help from anyone Really gratefully received ....

Stephen, you are not alone. Although I have succeeded in switching mine as I have told you before from korean to English but today a poor friend of mine bought 3 units …. Unlike mine they came in Italian …… none of our attempts came thru with an English interface. Lets us know what to do case you succeed in anything.

Windows Mobile Professional is only ever delivered in 1 language unlike the standard versions. Your only change is to load a English rom onto the device.

has anyone snatched the nice today screen from the preview youtube video a while ago? i have a UK Orange i780 but would love the cool today page they showed off.

I now have another now UK i780 ...can someone provide me a step by step guide to dump the ROM and create a flashable version?

I have numbered your statements... would be easier for me to answer:
1. BULL****! - Hard Reset is done with the code, not with the keypress as in HTC devices and the code is all over the web... it is the same code as for older SS devices i.e. *2767*3855# You type this in from the main screen and voila... device restarts after hard resetting. Be careful though... the code activates as soon as you press #... no confirmation question or prompt.
2. Bull**** again... they definitely can reflash your device to any ROM version they wish... the question is if they are willing to

I extracted the 4 raw files of the english rom.
I extracted the the files from part.002 in a dump file and used pkgtools to rebuild the OS to SYS and OEM.
Now what follows? Any help?

i downloaded the files but how can i install the new ROM.

p.s how can i extract the actual ROM in german, cz i belive some one maybe will need it.

Use the tools on this site. It was made for hermes, but it works for the i780 too. I extracted mine with these tools.

I have managed to extract the rom to Part00.raw, part01.raw, part02.raw and part03.raw.
I have managed to extract part02.raw to a dump file.
I have managed to rebuild the dump file with "pkgtools.exe" to get to files in the dump file, SYS and OEM
Tonight when I get home, I am going to take some quick lessons on a program called PERL found on this page:

now i will extract the german one witch is default in my i780.
i will speak today even with a friend from Romania, he's tehnical on Orange,maybe he can "steel" for me an Orange english version for i780.

Are better yet, maybe he can explain to you, how to rebuild the rom and make it into a .bin file, so we can flash the rom using the Mirageloader.

this is my first time flash my rom in english......
after flash..i found that it is a very good rom that run fast and smooth..
however,i found that it is not available that install ce-star or monstar chinese with the UC package with M2D....
i like this rom and thank spocky12 very much
after i try more than 20 methods...i find several software is available for type and read chinese with M2D and run smooth....
i suppose all of you have this rom

I am a HK user, and i have searched this great job for 6 months, but I still cannot find any posts except this post that teach traditional chinese's user to flash UC rom and make it to read and type traditional chinese.

I remember to have installed Ce-star after flashing spocky's rom. But after many bugs I simply removed Ce-star. Then I preferred installing a single font with respective registry modifications. By the way I'll try your method to see if it will give any different result. Thank you

You can put your font in the windows directory of your phone and then modify the registry values. I have msyh.ttf (font name YaHei) for example, so I need to modify the registry values under
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink]
as
"YaHei"="\\Windows\\tahoma.ttf,Tahoma"
"Tahoma"="\\Windows\\msyh.ttf,Yahei"

Main disadvantage of this method is that non-unicode Chinese characters become gibberish. Also China will still be unavailable in the regional settings.
Your method is superior to mine as it can truly enable Chinese support

The cab file in following link will install a font and modifies the respective registries. You can install it on top of Spocky's rom. It was made by someone named samau, so all credits should go to him.

i tested on my ks20 with KisS20.4 Rom already.
it can be read and write/type chinese perfectly, write chinese meaning it support handwriting input But, the problem is cannot use PlumSIP6 after that. Can anyone solve it??
finally, i havn't test the chinese interface, if anyone interest, go try and report.
Here, I hope someone can develop a perfect T.chinese version rom for HK ppl, the original rom in HK was very very weak...

HAY GUY...the file i uploaded is the full version of MSJH.TTF
the file you find in KUMA is good but not function on kiss 20
because it will reload the wince back to your ppc
it will lead many many problems there
for example...you have to reset your ks20 successful more than 10 times

after upgrade WM6.1 KisS20.4 Rom, this rom is fastest and stable one that I try in my KS20, after upgrade all sim card cannot work. I use this phone in Hong Kong and had tried 3 Hong Kong (3G), PCCW (3G), People and China mobile sim card also. All have same problem - cannot register the network.
I also copy the xml from HK10a rom of HK telecom provider in /windows/networkprofile, can select my telecom provider name but also the same.
After I flash back HK 10a.rom (http://rapidshare.com/files/12754205...2008_.rar.html), now the phone still the same cannot register any network, but can search its own network.
I use LGMDP_EURO to flash the rom in emergency mode with unbranded rom (since I heard all HK LG ks20 is unbranded) KisS20.4Rom
Now even I flash other rom still get the same problem.

i think 1BB is your code...if not right...you can change the 2nd B from 1-Z for test...but one of the russia version G810 has successful update by using code 1BB
