Hi All,
does anybody know if it is possible to write a ROM to a XDA that was extracted of a similar XDA ? ... what are the implications of that ?
Take the examples below that describes where is the difference between two XDAs. The rest is equal as buttons, storage, processor type, etc.
1) one XDA has 300 MHz and the other 400 MHz.
2) One has the internal storage of 64 Mb. The other 128 Mb. I am not considering the Sd-Card / MMC-Card.
3) One XDA is developed by brand / manufacturer ABC, the other XDA is developed by brand / manufacturer XYZ.
4) The quantity of buttons are different. For example, there is no camera button, because the XDA has no camera. The other XDA has camera.
5) All differences above.
Best regards,
Jocafi Brazil
No. ROMs are very device specific.
Any one of the differences you describe would make the ROM image unusable.
Also you have to keep in mind that info printed on the box such as processor speed or storage amount or visible number of buttons does not signify the real difference between two devices.
The real difference, the one that makes the ROM unusable is inside. It is the type and model of internal components, memory mapping etc.
The external differences are only indicators and even two devices whose official specs (the ones the consumers sees on the box) may appear the same are likely to be different on the inside.
Hi again !
In the XDA Wiki pages the devices are grouped by series and similarities.
Let us take for example the HTC P Series (PocketPC Phones). The device is Wizard.
Similarities:
Wizard: HTC P4300 / Qtek 9100 / Qtek A9100 / Dopod 838 / i-mate K-JAM / T-Mobile MDA Vario / O2 Xda Mini Pro / O2 Xda Mini S / Orange SPV M3000 / Orange SPV M6000 / Cingular 8125 / Vodafone VPA Compact II / E-Plus Pocket PDA
A person of the thread below believe that a ROM is compatible to similar Wizard devices.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?agename=Wizard_Compatible_ROMS
What do you think ? Should I try one of the ROMs below on my VPA Compact II?

I am considering upgrading from XDA II to IIs and since the price is steep because it's new, can i have some suggestion from previous Himalaya owners who upgraded to Blue Angel? Is it worthwhile to upgrade or should i wait?
Pros and Cons would be good.
Thanks in advance
Cheers!

Shame you cant buy it here in the UK as a new contract moving your number with you as I only paid £49.99 here http://www.scancom.co.uk/customer/product.php?productid=17024
And although we were only XDA I owners I do think its well worth the upgrade so much better I find than an XDA I
if you need :
1. WIFI
2. Keyboard
3. a BLACK PDA PHONE
Then upgrade to IIs.
I won't upgrade to IIs because
1. It's even heavier than II
2. The larger capacity battery don't help much
3. WM2003SE not really as great as you think
4. I don't need WIFI.
5. Why upgrade to a device with the SAME CPU, SAME AMOUNT OF RAM, SAME SIZE, SAME SCREEN ?
I will upgrade to HTC Magician / XDA II Mini / Qtek S100 / T-Mobile MDA Compact / Dopod 818 / Imate Jam / whatever you like ..

1) Don't really need WiFi now cause Macau doesn't have WiFi spots at all.
2) Keyboard will help me a lot in replying my e-mails and once Blackberry is available.
3) Not too concern with the color.
I know the rest is the same but i believe the internal RAM now is 96MB instead of 64mb in XDA II?
Nope
Hi,
Just sold my new MDAIII (same HTC Blue Angel as XDAIIs), and will continue to use MDAII. This is why:
1. The screen on MDAII is dreadful (yellowish, lower contrast, tiny viewing angle, must be used at full brightness (I use MDAII at lowest level) to achieve barely acceptable picture which nullifies the advantage of the higher capacity battery)
2. Wifi will not connect to Wifi networks with hidden SSID (SANDISK sd wifi on MDAII does this without problem (using newest socket driver)- which incidentally also has marginally longer range).
3. Keyboard is much slower to use than on-screen one, not to mention SPB full screen keyboard
4. BT radio has about 20% shorter range than on MDAII (using BTGPS for network access)
5. Needs very frequent resets. Particularily when connecting to different wifi APs and when switching between BT Network access and wifi access(BluetoothGPS works much better on the MDAII)
Given that the industrious contibutors to this site have provided us with screen rotation functionality (SRS) (as well as BT network access), the MDAII is still my choice by a long shot.
BTW 1.7 rom upgrade also offers FAX support.
The only thing that I miss is the "single column" IE browsing mode, but I'm hoping that someone will solve that too.
Cheers,
Martin
Should have read: The screen on MDAIII is dreadful
Im a little shock with what people are saying here.
I have a Imate PDA2K and I must say it is perfect! I had a P800 before and the things the P800 didnt have was:
Wifi
Keyboard
and these two things make a big difference for me. I have wifi at home and checking email on that is just perfect. Download attachments without worries of GPRS prices. The Keyboard means I can ride a bike and type and email at the same time with one hand where you could not do that on a PDA without a keyboard.
Screen I thought is perfect, well on mine is.
BT works fine for me.
Much of a muchness!

xdaII have 128
xdaI's came first in a 32MB later a 64MB version
not sure if xdaIIs only have 96MB but i'm pretty sure it have 128 like the xdaII[/quote]
I've had an MDAIII for a few weeks now and I can honestly say that I prefer my XDAII - The XDAII was a giant leap from the XDA. The MDAIII is a very small step, has many bugs and a yellow screen - wifi and bluetooth don't work properly and the keyboard is nowhere near as good as my original Nokia communicator. I got my MDAIII for FREE - I would definately not be happy if I paid a lot of money for it. My advice to anyone thinking of 'upgrading' would be to wait for whatever replaces this model. Hopefully the next generation of these phones will be 3G and have faster processors and really get the benefit of being truly portable wireless machines.
That exactly reasons why I am not going XDA 3. Plus, I think design is just ugly. I am looking forward to see Magician in person
I know it's a mtter of personal taste, but I think that the look of the MDAIII is not as 'sexy' as the XDAII.

It's the ROM , not the RAM!
XDA II and IIs got 128M RAM.
However XDA IIs has more ROM then XDA II.
You'll have arround 15m ususable ROM STORAGE for XDA II, and 40m for XDA IIs.
With a XDA IIs, If you set 64m ram for storage , you'll have totally 100m for storage (64M Ram + 40M Rom).
The total rom size for XDA II is 64M, XDA IIs is 96M.
Spend time looking through the various issues posted here that are specific to the BlueAngel.

Poor screen, random soft resets...for me, problems with the microphone while phoning force me to recommend another device. It was something not mentioned in any of the hardware reviews I read (1 such being http://www.infosyncworld.com/reviews/n/5530.html), begging the question do these guys actually use the device before writing their remarks?
Personally I am going to wait for the XDA IIi due out early next year. Faster processor, better camera are a couple of things that are worth waiting for. However, I won't know until its out and some feedback (such as this here) is available .
I'm definitely in the UPGRADE camp, running my II side by side with the matt black wonder that is the IIs. BT & WiFi (I used sandisk sd on II) work so much better on the IIs & BT finally works properly with car kits.
The screens on the ones we have are fine & the software is far more intuitive.
the IIi will simply be the IIs functionality in a II case, yawn! I can't get my head around the idea that the II is better looking either, mine looks as old fashioned to me now as the Xda did when the II came out.
just swapped to using the keyboard and not its biggest fan so can't recommend it for that (couldn't get shift to work, I might actually have read the manual) so back to stylus/soft keyboard.
The IIs is also a bit heavier but I'm prepared to get my trouser pockets reinforced! I honestly wouldn't be happy going back to the II
was able to try out the xda3 for a month; hated it and switched back to my xda2...whew good thing i didn't sell her. for my reasons; same as mentioned by the dudes in this thread with emphasis on the useless keyboard...among other things (no offense to those who did get an xda3)
for the xda2s; definitely i won't get this unit. i was in hong kong last week and i was able to play around it with it. sure wm se is great but other than that i didn't see much improvements as compared to the present xda2...which didn't really justify the price it came with (6980 HKD). i'd rather wait for the xda2i (which is rumored to have a faster processor and a 1.3 mp camera). or even better; i'd wait for the xda4 since it's rumored to come out next year around june / july...or end of the year.
cheers
As i noticed the Xda IIi doesn't have keyboard, which i need the most. What i need the most is Keyboard and Wifi what i don't need is the camera (stupid thing for me) and processor doesn't matter.
So it's up to each one of you, buy what you need. You can't say something bad when you don't need them. That's why O2 releases 2 models IIs and IIi, is for me and for you ...
i just sold my xda ii and got a xda iis last week
personally i feel that iis is stable than ii as i experienced "blank screen"+"hard reset" many times with ii, but i haven't got this problem so far with iis for almost a week now (installed same software).
i really feel wifi is good and battery consumption is much lower than what i expected when using wifi, minimum it is much better than the sony ux50 pda.
don't xda 2 s. suck's
after using xda2,
i found xda 2s,
verry bad like the screen its i think 50% dull than the xda2, I mean when u tilt the phone side way or up and down u can see the colour change from yellow to white, this never use to happen in xda2 and the colour quality is also bad am curseing my self why did I upgrade???T
he jabra bluetooth which worked fine with xda2 dosen't work well with 2s lot of hissing,
i am really unhappy with the screen quality,
so guy's and gal's stick to xda2 and pray that xda3 will have a crisp and clear screen and the bluetooth will work fine,
hi, All

I think my device is still the best PDA phone and no need to change with XDA IIs

Hello
I'm new to this forum and found it really excellent. I was just wondering, whats the difference between XDA 2s and XDA 2i?
So far i've found that XDA2i has 520MHz processor and 1.3MPixel camera. Do you know of anything else?
http://handhelds.engadget.com/entry/0635432553253854/
http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/index.php?action=expand,33305
And does anyone know when is it Releasing in the market?
There is another thing i noticed in the O2 web site. On one spec it says that XDA2s has 64MB ROM.
http://www.my-xda.com/xda2s_spec.html
and in the same web space it says it has 96MB ROM.
http://www.my-xda.com/comp.html
Any ideas guys?
Also found another website claiming that T-mobile is going to release MDA IV. Check this out....

The XDA IIs uses the "Blue Angel" chassis with the slide out keyboard and extra buttons. It has the same processor speed as the XDA II but a newer generation of processor, and the same camera hardware. It also has WiFi and a 4 band phone radio
The XDA IIi uses the same chassis as the XDA II, so no slide out keyboard or extra buttons, but it has more memory, a faster processor (524MHz) and a 1.3 Megapixel camera. It also has WiFi and 4 band phone, and an improved Bluetooth system.
The MDA IV (=XDA III or IV?) is just rumour at present, but quite strong rumour. Likely to be a beefed up XDA IIs with fast processor, VGA screen and 1.3MPix camera. Might also have 3G capability (interesting that O2 have bought into the DoCoMo system!). Not expected till late 2005; XDA IIi expected Q1 2005.
hi guys. need some help!! time to upgrade frm mda vario. looking at 3600 aka orange m700 and 3300 aka tmobile compact 3/ o2 orbit. if we leave out the 3g function of the 3600 which would you choose. if the advice is 3300 would it be tmobile without wifi or o2 orbit, although tmobile web and walk tariffs are good. please heeelp. thanks in advance.
The 3600 has a better CPU and a much worse casing. The question is: Do you really need the fast CPU? If you want to play a lot of games (mainly 3D or action), go for the 3600. Otherwise the 3300 is the better choice!
I'd get the 3600. It now also has GPS, is only slightly more expensive and has 3G which might make it easier to sell in a year or so.
I use both the HTC P3300 and the T-Mobile MDA-C-III and to be honest I cannot remember when I last bothered using the WiFi on the P3300 - the T-Mobile GPRS is great (even better at the price when compared to O2 tariffis).
OK 3G would be a bonus, but in my experiance it hammers the battery so as yet I still don't like it as a useable asset, valid point about future value but I don't sell my units after replacement so not relevant. With HTC announcing WM2006 for the Artemis perhaps this is the way forwards (not sure about the 3600 as I have yet to see anything about WM2006) - Mke
Think you should go with the 3300. I've had the M700 (3 times actually) and even though its a beautiful machine, the casing put me off.Looks and feels so fragile. The GPS is good but the 3300 has it as well in a much smaller package.Speed on the 3300 (mine is the xda Orbit version) is pretty good especially for everyday use.I use mine for watching medical lecture video's constantly and have had no need to overclock it (poss if you wanted to but not a necessity) so the 400 cpu of the 3600 is not that necessary - good but not necessary. Also with all my 3600 I had the ring delay issue where someone would call you and it would ring over their side about 5X before ringing on the actual phone.Missed calls a lot because of that . Also not that its restricted to the 3600,but I had my first ever total SD card corruption with a ppc on it. I know its also been documented in the 3300 (there seems to be some fixes eg sentry) but that really biased me against the 3600 variants. As for the type of 3300 you should go for,I reckon the Xda Orbit is the better one. Xda O2 phones come regularly unlocked and the Orbit so far has not been an exception.Hence you can use a T-mobile sim on it. Have your cake and eat it too. In the UK, data usage is generally expensive or not as good as what you get in the states so its always good to have your WIFI options open and use if YOU want and not if your service provider wants you to!
EDIT: Found it.
Hi, What Mod/Add-on changes the interface of the HTC Blue Angel (Siemens SX66) to where it looks like this --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiLRVLrOJdw&feature=related ?
I'm buying one of these soon. Could someone also list the Pro's and Con's, and tell me some information about it, experiences, etc.
Thanks.
Also, I heard there's different "versions" of it. How can I distinguish them from each other and which one is better?
Edit: Alright, I compared all of them and it appears that the Siemens one I'm getting has no camera, and the Vodafone v1620 is the "newest" version.
Why does the XDA III cost more than the Siemens, and why are there so many different versions?
Here's a comparison link if anyone's interested.
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacom...3=111&id4=109&id5=360&id6=110&id7=112&id8=108
hi
1. the interface on the video is called SPB Mobile Shell, you can purchase it here: http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/ for 29.95$
skins and themes for personalization are found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=380103 or
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2239209&postcount=1245
2. Pros and Cons of the device itself:
+ highly upgradable (to wm5, wm6, wm6.1, even wm6.5)
+ huge display 3.5"
+ wlan
+ expandable memory with cheep sd cards, not microsd
+ 400Mhz is rather fast, and still overclockable to 527Mhz
+ comes with charger/sync cradle as a stand-up station, not just stupid usb cable
+ camera makes pretty good mp4 videos
+ extremely good support by this community
- mixed experiences in battery drainage
- no wpa2
- no sdhc, just sd up to 4gb (transcend)
- sometimes on wm6.1 it's a little slow
- camera makes crappy pictures
- because of the age, lousy support by retailers and service points
but that's just my 2 cents and how i experienced it, the rest of the specifications and what may be important to you, you can find on the page, you linked yourself.
3. there are different versions, that come with slightly different components, but in general, it's all the same HTC Blueangel, just:
- sx66 and sometimes mda3 come without camera
- pda2k appears to have less built-in ROM
- the xv6600 has a cam,but no wlan
the rest of the differences you can read here:
different mainboards: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BlueangelBoardIDs
the different models worldwide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=231913
the different displays (just for repair, in use they are the same): http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BlueangelLCD
and now, when you read that and all the links included, i suggest you go off, buy yourself a nice blueangel
then, when you have it, you surely need help upgrading to wm6.1, as of course, the interface you posted and want, does not run on wm2003se.

Manila or TouchFlo 3d is HTC's Sense user interface for windows mobile.
But in chinese clones it is heavily modified.

Yes. What should I do?
I was told that he needed the driver worked well.
If you buy it as HTC made Desire you were fooled. Maybe you cant get it back and get back you money?
If not you will have to live with what you got. No Android. Little chance of upgrades. Why?
No comunity like XDA. Chinese phones look the same outside, but different inside.
Desire clones can have different processors, different memory size, different camera and so on.

Why do you want to know. Its not much use of knowledge that inside. Unless you are very gifted in mobile software development.
I want to know what's inside. Is there support for 3G, memory, processor
Извини. Мы можем говорить по русски?

That is a problem with chinese phones. You cant rely on internal software to show correct hardware. Cant rely on chinese websites specs. I googled for few minutes and find it can be 3 different processors, ram/rom from 256 to 576, camera 2, 3, 3.2, 5 mpix., gps, no gps, screen Wvga, hga, amoled, led, lcd, capacitive, resistant. What inside yours?
Maybe search Windows Mobile Development and Hacking forum for some hardware showing software.

Hi jmrojas, i have the same phone, and the same problem with de optical trackpad.
I cannot believe that this phone has the hardware button (optical trackball) but that it does not work. I believe that it is a problem of the ROM.
If you find a solution, please tell me. Thanks!!
