Is it possible to use PTT button instead of Power button - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

I hate the way power button is positioned on Hermes. I have trouble finding it plus each time I try to use it I accidentally slide keyboard open.
Is there any way to use PTT button as power button instead? I might be able to figure out how to use it to power unit down but is it possible to use it to power unit up while other buttons will still be locked?

Making PTT shut 'er down or suspend it is really easy, but I've never seen a way to make it power on with any button besides power.

Mapping Power button

Hi,
does anybody know a program to map the power button to a different button lik the OK-button to switch an MDA III on and off as the power button is broken?
Greetings
Peter
VJKeypress can do this. Also VJEschaton I think...

Power button mapping
I've tried Vijay 555 to assign power on/off to another button, but it has not worked. I need to map on/off elsewhere, whilst having the button lock option, as my normal Blue Angel power button is broken.
Have I used the software correctly? Is there a way of re-mapping power button AND having button lock still not allow any other button to power the device up?
Any help would be great - whilst I carry on searching the site!!

[Q] Is it possible to use Vol-Down button for Power on/off?

The power button on HD is in an inconvenient position and hard to press.
Is it possible to use any other button (like Vol-Down) to power off and on?
I tried AEButton, but it does not seem to have an option to "power-on".
Thanks
Power Off would be possible, however to Power On the device you always need to press the configured power button. This is since AEButton is a software solution and does not alter the hardware settings. Thus making it only run while Windows Mobile is on (by altering the Windows Settings), and since when the device is off WinMo isn't running, so it won't work while the device is off.

It's supposed to be somewhat difficult ...
If you don't already know, virtually ALL power buttons are somewhat hard to press/use. It's supposed to be that way. If they were easier to press, you could easily power off your phone while it's in your pocket by accidentally hitting the volume up or down keys, or any other accidental push.

I actually meant the state into which the device goes when you press the power button once (Sleep, suspend ... whatever that is called, although this state is sometimes called power-off), and not complete power-off (by holding the power button).
In this Sleep/Suspend, is it not possible to remap the button?
I mean that it is still able to receive calls in this state, so something is running. But not WinMo?

You are right for accidental presses. However that can be taken care by assigning (if possible) a double press instead of single.
Oh, and I am sorry, I did not mean full power off, only sleep/suspend.
For PDAs, such a button placement may be ok, as you anyway have to use both hands to hold the PDA and take out/use the stylus.
But for this phone, single hand use is important. I dont use the stylus most of the time.

to power on with up/down control, change DefaultKeyLock to 0 in registry.

Thanks!! That's almost does it, but for the double press.
I added single press of Vol-Dn in AEB to Today Screen, and double press to a MortScript with PowerOff command.
Now to see if it accidentally comes on in the pouch...

Remap Hardware Buttons

Hey,
The power button on my TP2 doesn't work anymore (bad contacts) and I'm able to get around this using WinMo with a simple keyboard remapper to move the functionality to another key. Obviously this isn't a HUGE issue, but I don't have a dedicated home button.
Just wondering if there is any way to do it - even if I had to remap one of the keys on my kb to home would be nice.

In Android your power button is actually the end call button, just like on Android devices.
thanks for the reply reefer. Maybe I didn't make myself clear enough then.
The end call button does indeed turn the phone on/off, but the power button that turns the screen on and off in WinMO is the home button in Android, and it doesn't work on my phone (due to me dropping it a few times...)

Remapping the power and optical keys

Basically, my power button is screwed. It is constantly held down, so I cannot lock/unlock my phone and everything else you use the button for. I realised the other day that I don't press the optical sense button down...at all. So I wonder, is it possible to turn that button into my power button? and just disable the power button all together.

Can the volume buttons become a power button?

The volume "rocker" isn't actually a rocker but just two buttons with a bridge over them. Is there a way to make it so that pressing both at approximately the same time functions like a power button? I find the double tapping isn't always reliable and the real power button is hard to reach.
I think it is possible to replicate the power button (including hold to show power menu) by modifying some system files but I did not try it. I have the same thought like you, the power button is hard to reach. I use dt2w to wake my device.
If you are comfortable with xposed, use GravityBox. There is an option to use volume rocker to wake your device. In addition you can also modify the recent key so that double tapping the recent key you can sleep the device. With combination of both you can wake and sleep the device without the use of the power key.
I have always wondered about this too. I mean, the camera is accessible from sleep using the volume buttons, why can't we just use the volume buttons to only wake up the device?
