How do I get programs that are installed on my device to find files on my storage card? eg. I have Ms Pocket Streets installed on the device, but when it starts it opens a page which has a drop down menu for "All Folders". "All Folders" shows only folders on the device and not my SD card. This happens with all programs. As you can imagine my 1 Gig SD card is badly under utilized as I have to store all files in the device. I use to have a Nokia 9210, which occasionally suffered this problem, but a reset fixed it. Is there an undocumented reset to fix this? Or is it a problem with SD cards? Could I set up a shortcut to the storage card and if so, how do I do it?
I assume you can "see" the MMC card from File Explorer
I have an XDAIIs which refuses to recognise any SD cards at all, but will work happily with MMC cards
in file explorer, go to root....i.e. "My Device"
then you should see "storage card".....tap it and you should be off...
BAM!!!
good luck....

yeah, I know that SD is faster than MMC, but my XDA simply refuses to read any SD cards - and I've tried 6 or so
Damm, never should have wrote that message. My SD card just dissapered and had to do a Soft Reset to get it back........................
DAMM i'm getting tired of constantly having to reset it to use SD
Rejoice - My SD_Card has come back
My 1 Gig SD Card is now recognized by ALL my programs. I'm not sure which changes caused it to come back, but here's what I remember I did.
1. I found a zero length file on the device called ignore_my_docs & I copied it to the root directory on my SD_Card.
2. I remapped my SD_Card & renamed it in Pocket Mechanic (Storage Folders - view & configure the storage card mount folders name)
and
3. I installed & uninstalled MVP movie player & "voila" everything was fixed.
You might think step 2 was the answer but I checked after this and the card still wasn't recognized. I have noticed that another 4k file has appeared in the SD Card root directory simply named dummy. I don't know if my PPC is trying to tell me something.
I'm guessing what actually fixed it is that the movie player had a playlist generator & I'm thinking that fixed the problem of the device finding the card, but your guess is as good as mine.
I'd certainly be interested in peoples view and if what I've done works on anyone elses PPC.
PS. Tried to FTP both v small files but FTP keeps rejecting :-(

What do you mean "remapped" the SD card, simply rename the moint point in pocket mechanic?
I'm sure I've tried renaming the moint point but pocket mechanic doesn't even recognise my Sd storage card. I'll play around some more
ANOTHER UPDATE
A colleague at work had the same problem. We transfered a powerpoint presentation to his storage card (1gig SD Card) and when we loaded ClearVue PPT viewer on O2 XDA IIs it didn't list in all folders.
I created a folder on the storage card called My Powerpoint and beamed "dummy" & "ignore_my_docs" to him we tried to transfer both to the root directory on his device, but it reported that "ignore_my _docs" already existed. I think it might be a hidden file.
So after transferring dummy into the root directory we reloaded ClearVue PPT viewer and My Powerpoint appeared in the All Folders list. We selected it and there was the presentation.
It works for me......
Hmmmm...
Well my problem has got worse...
I bought a new 1Gb MMC card since I thought my machine was not reading SD cards and it doesn't work!!!!!. My 128Mb card is fine, but I've reformatted the new card, sowrn at it, pleaded with it etc, but pocket mechanic doesn't even see it.
So I can not read any SD cards and only one of my two MMC cards, but all the cards read fine in my PC
GRRRR!!!!!
anybody got any ideas?

You may have already sorted this but...
I had exactly the same problem with my 1GB PNY SD card it read fine in my pc but not in my mda. I compared it to my old 256 MMC and noticed the card was a bit warped and the bit where the metal contacts are was a bit thinner. So (I know this sounds drastic :? ) I bent the card slightly  (not too much pressure) which made all the contacts touch the relevent bits in the slot and it's worked ok since.
Hope this helps
I'll try anything - which way did you bend it? I presume convex with the connectors on the outside radius
Thanks
Chris
yes that was the way... But just try it both ways and stick it in.. Not too much though, just till you feel a bit of resistance.
i have used the micro SD card to install Copilot and although the installation was done to the phone rather than the storage card it still requires the storage card to run.
Is there a way around this and run copilot without having the micro sd card in as i want to be able to have CoPilot and also get a new micro sd to store music etc on.
Thanks,
Chris
I dont use copilot myslef I use tomtom. However I would suggest that the program and maps voices etc will be to large to fit on the device, why not get a 2 gig micro sd card and have your music on it aswell.
As I said I dont use co pilot but I cant see you getting everything on the device. I did read somewhere that you can get a 4 gig card but never seen one myself or indeed have never had confirmation it will work.
Hope this helps
Never thought of transferring the Copilot SD data to a new bigger card through the PC as i thought it was too small but with the adapter will obviously fit in the card reader no problem. Thanks alot
hey guys, i'm trying to figure out the best way to transfer a big file (~200mbs) to my storage card... it takes a very long time if i just drag and drop it into my storage card while i'm in active sync... any other ideas? thanks
omar
take out the storage card and put it into your computer's card reader. get an external usb model if necessary.
Bluetooth file transfers are more reliable than mounting it via activesync (or markspace missing sync for mac people), but both are vastly inferior to physical card readers.
Looking to get a 4gb sd card for my IIs, I heard that the transcend 4gb sd works fine.. I also heard that I need a card reader to format it..
Doing a search I found that there is software that can turn the IIs into a card reader, which would save me buying one, but I can't find the name of the software.
Can someone give me the name of a piece of software which turns the IIs into a card reader...
Thx.
Found one called Card Export II.. basically turns the pda in to mass storage device via usb..
It finds my storage folder and sd card as separate removable drives.. it's the mutts nuts.
i have a SanDisk 16gb micro SD card and recently it has been making file explorer crawl and crash when im trying to navigate my data. i tried using total commander to access the memory card hoping that it was just file explorer giving me a hard time and it is doing almost the same thing in total commander (it is slightly more manageable in total commander) this did not start happening untill a few weeks ago. is there a chance that a corrupted file would be causing this issue or possibly i just have the card too full up? (its not at capacity yet but it is about 1 gig away)
is anybody else having this problem or does anyone have some insight for me? any help is much appreciated.
Chances are it's only a Class 2 card. Those are extremely sllllllooooooowwwww.

correct, it is class 2, but it used to be no problem whatsoever untill a week or so ago, anyone else got any clues?
It could be a combination of the fact that it's Class 2 and you loaded it to near capacity. I wouldn't think a corrupted file could do that, although I might be wrong. It could also just be a bad card. I've gotten a few that work fine for a couple days and then stop working completely. I would go with a higher class in the future (or a lower capacity Class 2 card).
Perform a CheckDisk/Scandisk(equivalent for your OS) on the card either via a Card Reader w/ an adapter, or connecting your phone to your PC in Disk Mode. Kind of fishy that it would happen all of a sudden. Flash media doesn't have noticeable file fragmentation issues.
You could also back up everything you have on the card, reformat the card, and reload everything back to it.
Hopefully this may help.
thanks for your responses, i will definately buy a higher class card in the future. how exactly do i perform that scan on my card though? i have an sd adapter so i can plug it directly into my computer. i use vista for my OS

Plug the card into the adapter, and in file explorer on your PC, right-click on the drive that is the SD card. Choose "properties", then the "tools" tab. There you will see the option to "check this drive for errors"
And for future reference, this is the same procedure you would use to do a "chkdsk" on any drive connected to your pc. It will check for signs of defects to the physical media.
