soft or hard reset on orbit? - P3300, MDA Compact III General

just bought a second hand 02 orbit with co pilot on it, it has a picture on the today screen (a baby) from the previous owner.
if I do a soft reset will it give me the original screen display or will the picture still be there?
if I do a hard reset will it change the screen and will I need to reinstall co pilot?
not sure wether to do the hard or soft reset, any idea?

A soft reset will not wipe any settings, a hard reset will take the device back to the same state it was in when new (assuming the ROM hasn't been altered), if its just the today screen image you want to alter go to Start/ Settings/ Today and on the Apperance tab you can select a different picture or the O2 default - Mike

thanks, changed the pic.
I will have a good look at the manual and try a few other settings to get used to it,
cheers

re:
It's freeze while i'm backing up.
Update: Maybe it's cause by i restore all program from my old Pocketpc Backup, and they have a bad conflication between program and hardware. Now i send my ppc to service for frashing rom and i will try to install it manually one by one.and less program i will use. So, After finished i'll tell you all the result.
Thank you for all you guys reading my topic.
Hard Reset
You dont need to remove the battery to do a hard reset. Just press and hold the power button on the top, and then use the stylus to press the 'soft reset' button on the bottem. That will hard reset the device. It should then power up and re-install its software.
Restoring a backup from an old device aint a good idea (same model, and operator required for sensible results). The backup will contain the windows dir, registry, as well as the operator unique progs that they put on the device to personalize it to them. Result will likely be not being able to boot, or device working incorrectly once started.
If the hard reset does not work, then you'll have to return it for a replacement.
Best bet will be to re-install all the progs from your own device and resync your email, contacts, blah from a PC.

I have the same problem after I upgraded my MDA II to WM2003SE and did a restore from backup.
If the device is in the cradle I can turn it on an also if I receive a phonecall it switches on. A soft reset works also. But if I just press the button nothing happens .........
Will do a hard reset and restore everything manually, see if that helps.....
Update: My board was broke. Services will change it for free but i take a little long times. Because spare parts wasn't avaible.
Have to wait few week.

PDA2k softresets itself

I had noticed this a few days. The PDA2k softresets itself... The proofs are...
1. I removed the "Run_BTTrayCE_10.lnk" from the \Windows\StartUp\ folder. But the BT already is in the system tray. After a few hours (I was NOT looking at the screen all the time), when I open the device, I cannot find the BT icon in the bottom. Which means the device has done a soft reset.
2. The same as above, I added the link back in the \Windows\StartUp\ folder. Now, after few hours the BT icon appears on the tray. Which means the device has done a soft reset.
3. I did some registry modifications (to display the date&time on the top). I didnt do a soft reset. After some time, the registry comes into effect itself, which should happen only on a soft reset.
Pls help.... I am afraid if something is wrong in my device..
I am not sure about that.
How about you put a sim password on your device.
If it has reset itself you will find the enter pin under phone application. This I feel is a more sound way of testing it.
A device that resets itsself has in most cases a bad battery. (found this out buy buying a china made one)
ok, will give this a try then

Where's my assign Photos gone

orange spvm200
Just had to do a hard reset then. Now have lost photo caller id and assign photo in contacts have gone. How do i get them back...
If you have hard reset you will have lost all data apart from that in the storage folder if I rem right.
S hard reset is basicly factory defaults you need to load up your back up presuming you have one if you havent like i didnt do first time you will do in future ;-) saves hours

O2 xda exec

Hi all my old 2I got ran over so now have the xda exec. What software is there to get rid of the 02 stuff?
Also need to know exactly what buttons to do a hard reset if needed also is the code the same as the 2i? Ie 5306 or whatever it is?
Much appreciated John
hi great Phones not to sure on all your answers but for reset press both the buttons on top of keyboard marked with a "-" and push the reset then press 0 to hard reset or x to exit also get the vga hack its amazing makes it the best Phone/pda ive ever had i love mine
After you do a hard reset, when it gets to the "Wait 3 seconds" part, soft reset again. That prevents anything from O2 from being installed. You will basically have a clean, fresh ROM of whatever ROM version you have.

after software update weird color screen.

Sorry if there is an answer on the forum, but I couldn find it...
I bought XDA EXEC from O2 Ireland. Everything worked ok, but anyway I done upgrade of software.
After upgrading, the screen changed into weird coloured noise screen. And keep like this for half hour. I'v done hard reset, restored factory settings, after few second screen comes again with coloured noise screen. Another reset didnt change sittuation...
Im not advanced in pocketPC stuff, so please help
