Hello guys,
there is a question I think nobody has raised before. After ditching T-Mobile UK MDA Compact IV ROM for
SPL-1.40.OliNex
Radio 1.00.25.05
SwiftBL-WWE-Diamond-ROM-v6.0
I've lost the most important feature for me - reliable email push. Even though MS Direct Push is enabled and Active Sync is configure to check items as they arrived, in reality this happens every 8-9 minutes or so, which is a bit annoying. After searching newsgroups I discovered that this could be down to heartbeat parameters. I know how to play with them on Exchange server by changing the following registry keys MinHeartbeatInterval and MaxHeartbeatInterval but is there anything I can change on my device to get emails instantly otherwise what's the point of having direct push?
a have a few more devices i.e. MDA Mail that work perfectly, so I don't think it's my exchange / firewall or anything else on my network
is there an rom that would be ideal for T-Mobile direct push?
thanks!
one other thing I forgot to mention - after flashing rom the signal strength is weaker than before used to be 4 bars now only 2
try emoze, it worked great for me (I used it via imap4) and it's free. emoze.com
The original HTC-Rom has no issues with Pushmail.
Have you had a look whether the rom which you are using does in any way close activesync in order to optimize the amount of free ram? For Direct Push to work, activesync must stay active in the background. You simply can't do Direct Push without as running continuously in the background.
If AS works in the background, you should set the AS-loglevel to maximum and post the newest logfile from windows\activesync. It is a simple textfile.
Using tools like Hibernate or "Freeup Ram" from SK Tools will close AS, resulting in the loss of the heartbeat.
Have fun!

I've just loaded RUU_Diamond_HTC_WWE-ME_1.93.456.2 - no difference whatsoever :-( direct push on T-Mobile MDA Compact IV doesn't work properly. same sim card works OK in MDA Mail
Sorry, but if this file is complete, then there is definitely something that stops AS.
Since Activesync starts with a Ping of 8 minutes, the server answers after 8 minutes that no item in the mailbox has changed. So, the full process starts again after 8 minutes, and increases the Ping to 13 minutes, after which the server must answer again that nothing has changed, increasing to 18 and so on up to 28 minutes max.
If there is no further log activity after 8 minutes, either the logging or the programm is off.
Have fun!
*edit: Now I see that AS logs again after 8 minutes. However, the log entries are somehow mixed: 09-06 15:33, then 09-04 18:28, then 09-06 15:41. When I ignore the entries from 09-04, they are consistent. Activesync gets a Ping after 8 minutes.
What is confusing me, is the line "delaying heartbeat" - this is typical when AS believes that there is currently no GPRS-connection.
Have you attached your Touch Diamond to the PC in the timespan or changed anything to the GPRS-settings, like some inactivity timer which terminates GPRS after x minutes? AUTD works only with GPRS/UMTS, but not over WLAN or a PC-connection.
Regards,
Detlev
OK, now it's getting even more interesting. It appears that this problem occurs when you used another Windows Mobile device with your mailbox before. I've configured my Diamond to work with another mailbox on the same Exchange 2003. The other user has never used AS before. Direct Push worked straight away as it should.
I opened IE, ticked a box Open as a Web folder and entered:
https://server/exchange-oma/working..._SUBTREE/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync/PocketPC
There were subscription files for each mailbox folder I needed to sync. Every time a new item arrives it changes Modified Time which means Diamond was watching it. ISS log contained signs of subscription as well.
2008-09-07 22:21:29 192.168.5.2 SUBSCRIBE /exchange-oma/[email protected]/Inbox/ - 80 - 192.168.5.2 Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync/6.5.7638.1 401 2 2148074254
Then I switched back to my mailbox and Direct Push refused to work!
I went to:
https://server/exchange-oma/non-wor..._SUBTREE/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync/PocketPC
the subscription files were there but modified time was changing only every 8 minutes.
I attach logs for working and nonworing users
Talk to your Exchange admin. There is a webpage on the front-end mailserver which allows the administration of mobile devices, particularly the remote-wiping of a device. There is an option to delete an exchange partnership for an account. MS advises to use this function if you have problems after swapping devices.
Have fun!
Same problem with HTC HC2 and Exchange 2003
I have the same problem now. My Exchange 2003 worked for years with push eMail to several mailboxes and devices. But now my HD2 does not get its mails by push but only with the next ping, i. e. after several minutes.
Deleting all other devices using
https://localhost/mobileadmin/
did not help.
Did you find a solution for this (obviously old) issue?

I'm expierencing the same problem, lately I'm not able to log in. It isn't problem of settings because earlier everything worked and I haven'y changed anything. I thought my passive connection is problem but I tried to connect at friend's house with public IP - the result was the same

Sorry, I couldn't find your ipaddr. from the PM in any of the logfiles. Not of the ftp, not in the firewall... nothing. As if the connection never happened :-(
Could you describe what happened exactly and how the problem manifested?
Please... solution FTP server, dont work, I can't connet.
Well I connected over SmartFTP with no problem
We need logs.
Is there a program that I can schedule send and recieve. Ie have on auto except between certain hours when im in bed. I use the phone as an alarm clock as well. And junk mail coming in at 3 in the morning aint gonna be too good
Have you tried the schedule that is built into activesync?
It gives the options of peak and off peak time downloading, at the bottom is the option to adjust the peak times to suit your needs, here are my settings....
All Programs > Activesync > Menu > Schedule
Peak Times - As items arrive
Off-Peak Times - Manually
Use above settings whilst roaming - not ticked
Send/receive when I click send - ticked
Adjust Peak Times
Mon 7:30 - 20:00
Tue 7:30 - 20:00
Wed 7:30 - 20:00
Thu 7:30 - 20:00
Fri 7:30 - 20:00
Sat 7:30 - 15:30
Sun -------------
This means that I only get emails when I want to receive them.
I hope this is helpful.
My schedule seems to be greyed out any ideas. Alternatively is there any way of scheduling differant sound profiles
Problem Solved found g-profile a great piece of software.

You have to configure your mail accounts over mobile network not with wifi. And whatever yahoo.... is the settings are same.
It has to be through network? no way to do it through wifi?
Don't Yahoo charge for the privilege of using imap?
I need to use these settings for @yahoo.com email

I have a HTC desire with CM7.1.0-RC1.
My phone, exactly at 12.16 noon and again at 5.16 PM daily, it keeps on vibrating and goes into vibrates mode. To stop the vibrating, i need to press any of the keys.
My wife's mobile is a HTC desire with the same CM7 version and it also behaves this way.
Would appreciate if anybody could help me resolve this problem.
Can anyone help me ? Now the no. of vibrations per day has increased to 4 times....
do you have installed a schedule app like Tasker?
Hi thanks for your reply. I do not have any task scheduler application.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
ok thats really weird. I think the final version of CM7.1 is now out so i would try to install the newest CM7.1 version. Maybe there are some bugs in the RC.

here is the download link of the cyanogenmod stable versions
Hi. many thanks to you once again for your time to answer me.
i donot think that the final version makes any difference to my problem. Reason because, i upgraded my wife's wildfire (yes my wife's mobile is a wildfire, i wrongly mentioned as "desire" in my first post...sorry for the mistake) from RC1 to the final CM7 version 2 days ago, but the problem still exists....
Log pasted
I have pasted the log at the exact minute during which this happened in my htc desire (cm7 RC1). I would appreciate if somebody can help me:
I suspect AUDIOMANAGER shouldVibrate as the cause. But i do not know beyond this technically.
thank you
Sethu.

i donot think that the final version makes any difference to my problem. Reason because, i upgraded my wife's wildfire (yes my wife's mobile is a wildfire, i wrongly mentioned as "desire" in my first post...sorry for the mistake) from RC1 to the final CM7 version 2 days ago, but the problem still exists....

The Wildfire is not the same phone as the Desire. So please update to CM7.1 on your Desire. If problem persits, run a full wipe. If problem still persits, check another rom. If that's not helping, go back on stock. And as a last resort sent to HTC to repair.
I noticed about a week ago that my battery life was diminishing rapidly. I wasn't sure what was causing it up until today when I noticed on my battery meter that the exchange services was on top of the list of battery usage. I'm pretty sure that shouldn't be that way from looking at other people's battery usage diagrams. Can someone confirm what your exchange services is listed in the battery usage list?
Also, does anyone know what may be going on with my exchange services and why it is draining so much of my battery juice. I am using it to check my Hotmail email.

I'd check the incoming and outgoing settings to make sure they're configured properly. If sync is broken it'll keep trying to send/receive over and over again.
Just a guess. I've had no issues with it taking up battery. Syncing an IMAP outlook account and a POP account from my ISP.

People have had exchange wakelocks because of either contacts or calender sync failing. Go into accounts and sync and check if all parts of the sync is successfully completed.

i found changing the sync setting to never will be back to normal battery drain.
but u just dont get push emails, however better battery life.
dial
*#*#36245#*#* (36245 spells "EMAIL")
Select "Debug" from the menu that pops up.
Select "Enable extra debug logging" and "Enable exchange sd card logging". This will start a log in the /sdcard/ root folder and the log will tell you if your phone is connecting with your exchange host. If you don't understand the log, post it here and I'll help.
I was only syncing email, I was not sinking calendar or anything else. I had it set to push for a month and a half and had no problems with it. Something change with in the past 2 weeks And it looks like I'm not the only one.

Just enabled the logging. How long should I let it run?
Not sure what to make of this log. There are two files. One is called "emaillog.txt" and the other is "c360_debug.txt".
Here is the latest entry in the "emaillog.txt"

I can't help with your issue but my question is could it be your ROM or kernel? I run exchange sync with calendar contacts etc and receive around 150 emails a day. Exchange services dont even register on the power usage screen...
I removed the account and then re added it and it seems to have solved the problem for now. I will check on it throughout the next 24 hours and see if it stays working properly.

I am on the stock ROM and kernel. Not even rooted yet.

I have had the same problem but the even bigger concern was the 3g data usage.....it was sky high even with sync only 3 days selected and also with check email Every hour enabled instead of push. I ended up disabling it all together....what a silly slip up by Google.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Not just with the data usage on some phones, but also he permissions.
Removing and re-adding the hotmail account didnt help in my case.
I am syncing just emails. No Contacts or calendar(which for some was the cause of this issue).
Even with just emails, I drain my stock nexus s running ICS in 6 hours flat.
I tried readding Exchange, but it was always a power sucker. A good impetus for me to personally scoot my very small company over to Google Apps. After screwing around with Exchange and the client's extreme power usage, it was nice to go down to 1% per hour drain.
One of my friends works at a larger company and they all got GNexs and use Exchange and he said that their battery life has been totally untenable across the board. Not sure if Exchange is totally to blame, but I do wonder.
I started out with really good battery life and then after about 2 weeks, Exchange started sucking battery. Strangely, all went back to "normal" after the phone was off for about an hour while I flew to DC. Unfortunately, that only lasted for 3 days and Exchange went right back to keeping the phone awake and sucking battery like crazy unless I was on WiFi.
Yesterday, I got sick of it and deleted my account and re-added it. So far, so good today but it's been less than 24 hours. My fingers are crossed that I had some random event that caused the issue but given it's already come back once, I am not holding my breath.
I saw on another forum that users had the same issue with K9 so it's not just in the stock email client - something is going on behind the scenes with something that drives both apps but I'm no where near techie enough to know what it is. I'm hoping one of you gurus that post here will have an "ah-ha" moment while reading this and be able to help us out!
Samsung Galaxy S2 with ICS has the same problem!
