I'm trying to connect a laptop and a desktop with bluetooth to the internet via my HTC-S620. I have no problems connecting to the internet via Bluetooth or USB but I want a solution for 2 devices to connect.
Even though Bluetooth and PAN seem to be all the rave, especially with support for mobile devices and USB dongles, I much prefer the flexibility and configurability of WIFI. Under XP, and I assume Vista, Internet Connection Sharing easily supports multiple clients. Under WM6 this does not seem possible even though it apparently provides a DHCP server.
If it were possible to somehow to access the internet from the desktop via the laptops Bluetooth that would be OK since the laptop would be gettig internet via USB but XP auto assigns the same IP as WM6 for ICS. Ideally, both the desktop and the laptop would connect to the internet via bluetooth directly.
Anyone know of any free solutions, hacks or applications that might help?
EDIT: Ok I saw a thread over in the Hermes forum where they were able to successfully connect 2 devices to Bluetooth internet sharing by hacking the registry keys HKLM\Comm\BTPAN1\Parms
AcceptConnections 0x1(1) to 0x2(2)
MaxConnections 0xA(10) to 0x2(2)
However this hack does not appear to work on the HTC-S620 WM61.

Find my old thread on bluetooth dunn, but did you know that the bluetooth dunn codes are already in the Excalibur 6.1 ROM by Kavana and Ricky. You can connect your laptop and PC via bluetooth dunn to the Internet. I now use Kavana's latest 6.1 ROM because of the new Microsoft bluetooth stack. I now have stereo music with surround sound on my Excalibur's. Another thing, you can make phone calls via your BT headset using Microsoft's voice command..............!

I was using Bluetooth on a Windows 2003 Server for Small Business Server. I finally got tired of it disconnecting every few minutes so I use USB and all is ok there. BT PAN works just fine on my XP boxes. When on the road I often would like to have two or more computers share the BT internet. I will look into your suggestion of using DUN instead. Thanks.

Just go to your Communications Manager and select Internet Sharing and follow the prompts from there. Assuming you have BT and drivers on your PC, you should be prompted to pair the devices and establish a BT PAN.
Technology - I tried to find your BT DUN thread by doing a forum search for threads started by "technology" with keywords "bluetooth" and "dun" without success. Can you point my to the thread? Perhaps it was started by someone else.
I was unsuccessful in my attempt to have two clients connect via DUN to my HTC-S620, however, the search for a solution lead to enabling DUN on both my HTC-S620 (T-Mobile Dash with cooked ROM) and my Samsung T409. Both have EDGE data and with the connection teaming capabilites of the Intergate 8.5 software I am able to use both phone modems simultaneously. I have experienced burst speeds of 50.1KB/Sec or 501kB/sec so far.
The Samsung connects to DUN via USB cable and the HTC connects via Bluetooth DUN. Fortunately, I was able to configure the HTC USB Activesync connection as the internal network. I used a laptop that was disconnected from an ethernet or internal network so using the HTC Activesync connection was a work around. The Intergate software configures two connections for the internal network. One for the Intergate and the other for the Microsoft TCP/IP to access the intergate from the server PC. You can have other PCs use this teamed connection as well when connected and configured for a network setup. This was the final step in getting intergate to work properly. So the HTC is connected both via BT and USB.
Now here is the good part. The HTC has T-mobile Total Internet $19.99 but the Samsung has only T-mobile Web $5.99. I was able to configure the DUN settings and initialization strings on both modems for the T-mobile Web proxy (wap.voicestream.com) and (216.155.165.50:8080). The trick here was to configure Intergate to use the T-Mobile Total Internet connection as the primary or default connection. Subsequently, the Intergate connection teaming software is able to team both and where possible utilize both connections. The T-Mobile web connections can only use unblocked ports but it kicks in for port 80 and the other unblocked ports.
Connection teaming will only increase your available bandwidth with when there are multiple connections. So streaming and the like will see no improvement but surfing, downloading and other applications will see better overall performance.

This can be done by connecting to the PC using ActiveSync over your Bluetooth connection.
You can easily add this in the Bluetooth manager if you do not already have one.
As long as ActiveSync has the passthrough connection enabled (see Options -> Rules in ActiveSync) you will now be able to connect to the internet on your BA.

Bluetooth surfing via Linux
you don't even need ActiveSync - it also works via a BT connection to a Linux PC! You just need dund and sdpd on the Linux side. I also had to write a one liner script making pppd ignore modem commands sent by my Wizard. Now it works perfectly - fast connection and more than 4 hours online already - on battery power!!!

I recently got a good quality bluetooth dongle for my laptop (msi star key) so I could increase my functionality with my audiovox harrier ppc6600 PH20A2
It's a great little unit, lots of fun, and I even added wifi via a wifi sdI0 card.
I find, however, that it has a great deal of trouble doing the bluetooth with my computer. I did have activesync and file sharing running one night, but it wouldn't browse the LAN or Internet via bluetooth so I mucked with internet connection sharing, blew out the laptop wifi connection, mucked about some more till it was fixed, checking, unchecking, and reconfiguring sharing here and there, and since then, the blue tooth just doesn't satisfy. I can only get activesync to work after establishing it via usb, then I can remove from cradle and get a bluetooth session. Pretty useless that way though, as the usb is what I'm trying to escape from!
I'd really love to access the mp3 folder on my server computer.
LAN configuration: dsl modem to wifi/router, wired to server (delilah w2kpro), wireless to Dan(workstation) sam (laptop), wii, and sometimes wired to experimental linux workstation (not really working yet. )
I can access wifi when sd adapter is in the pda, but most of the time a favorite sd card is in there stocked with music, books, and videos.
Laptop browses the network just fine, server has 47G of tunes I'd like to be able to play on the pda out in the garden using the bluetooth on the laptop to serve it up (if it reaches that far from the kitchen)
Anyway, generally I'd just like to be able to add the pda to my network, do file sharing, browsing, and activesync, via the bluetooth dongle. Dongle integrates nearly seamlessly with the OS (winXP tablet) on the laptop.
Anyone out there messed with this stuff? Got suggestions on how to rebuild the bluetooth stack and get it working smoothly again? Maybe I need to completely uninstall the laptop bluetooth?

i see the simplicity in PAN but for me it seems to be limited to just the use with one pc.
i have done some searches on the these subject.
i have seen some hacks to get PAN to work with multiple pc using bluetooth.
i want to see if Pan could be set up to share the internet with multiple pcs using the usb cable.
i would really like to find a way to have both DUN + PAN on the tytn running wm6.
i want to see if i could install DUN back on to a my tytn running wm6.
from what i have read it seems microsoft did not remove DUN and left it as an option.
other than that note it seems there is no install file available to the public to install DUN
if it has never been included in the rom.
i guess i would not worry about DUN if PAN could do everything i want.
i have shared multiple pcs before to connect to the internet using DUN.
i have had no luck with PAN.
in the end i really want to use the tytn as router to connect a handful of device to the internet.
is Pan really that limited or do i just nut understand it enough to maxims its benefits?
if PAN is that limited is there any real chance to get DUN back on wm6?

I did a search and didnt find much, I also checked on Wiki and they explain how to use it as a modem via bluetooth dial up networking. I would like to use the bluetooth PAN feature in Internet Sharing but cant get it to work.
Firstly, I got the bluetooth dongle connected with the Bluetooth PAN. It tells me that they are connected and communicating with each other, the bluetooth software (bluesoleil) even provides me with an ip address, however when I try browsing on my laptop I get the message page cannot be displayed...
Can anyone please shed some light as to why it does not work?

Seems like when the connection is established it gives the windows bluetooth adapter a weird ip address
like: 169.254.6.198
but I checked in network adapters of the 8525 everything is set for ip addresses to be assigned automatically .. strange..
in windows xp its also set to assign the ip address automatically :S
im not sure what else to do..
Launch Internet Sharing on your Hermes & set the PC connection to bleutooth PAN. Now, make sure the Network Connection is set to your correct data connectiion and press connect. It should say "Waiting for connection" Next, connect your PC & Internet Sharing should show "Connected". If you still can't surf then its a bluetooth driver issue on your PC. The built in M$ bluetooth stack (XP SP2 & >)works correctly with bluetooth PAN for sure. YMMV on others. The latest Toshiba BT stack definitely works too (based on pesonal experience).

Thats exactly what I did, and it gets connected on both ends..assigns a weird ip address.
I tried a few Roms, but now I am using urs the latest one dev 3.2
Always was a fan of your roms, but I cant get that bluetooth pan to work.
I also tried with WIDCOMM and Bluesoleil...
I get no where..

Ok, guys, got the problem resolved..it was the sucky bluetooth adapter from ebay "ISSC bluetooth adapter", piece of crap.. went to walmart got a usb 2.0 device for 25$ and all is well now.
When I'm in the car I have the TP2 connected using bluetooth:
-with the car as a car kit
-with my laptop to share my internet connection
-with my laptop to synchronize my outlook items
This all works, but not at the same time. So if I get in the car the head set mode is switched on and I can share my internet connection. As soon as I startup ActiveSync to synchronize the bluetooth connection for internet sharing is closed.
If I want to start internet sharing again I get the message that ActiveSync needs to be closed before I can share my internet connection.
At work (obviously I don't have headset mode for the carkit switched on) it is possible to have both ActiveSync and the internet connection over blue tooth at the same time.
Any idea to why this is happening? I would think perhaps 3 bluetooth devices can not be active at the same time.
With sharing internet you mean internet to your phone, or internet from phone to your laptop? Makes a diffrence, because internet to your phone and synching is the same bluetooth connection.
I mean sharing my internet connection off the phone to the laptop. This has been working fine on my mda vario III (Tytn II)
And again something new: if the phone is just lying on my desk it is impossible to have internet shared and Active Sync connected at the same time.
As soon as I connect the device to a mini USB (either another computer or the charger) it is able to have both connections over bluetooth.
With my device I can connect to max 2 connections. one i use for my mbw-150 watch exclusive and the other data connection with my notebook. If i activate a third for example to another phone the connection with my watch is seperated.
