Extracting CAB from ROM - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

Sorry for this NOOB-Question... I really tried it by myself!
Didnt find the solution i was looking for,....
I simply want to have certain CAB out of different ROMs.
There are many nice ROMs here in the Forum... and all are a little different ...
Now i like to have one cab from ROM "A","B", "C"..and install it on together with ROM"X".
But how do I get the CABs out of the ROM?
For Example HTC Connetction Setup out of the Bepe 0.99d or Duttys_Diamond V1.8 to install it in the DIAMOND ROM V3.3
I found some "How to Cook"- Guidelines.. but none of them helped me getting the Cabs?! Did i make a mistake?? Or isnt it that easy?
Would be nice if you could help me out with that?!
And no.... the HTC ConnectionSetup_CAB you can find here in the Forum isnt working on my device... but the one in Bepes Rom is doing his job.
Thank.. and again sorry..
Bobo

Use CeCmd (attachment).
Copy it to your device, run it, adjust the file properties (show hidden and ROM files).
Choose the files you want (search the windows folder) and copy it to a (in advance created!) folder of your choice.

Thanks...
..it worked... Now I can pick out the CABs I like from the ROMs I like and install it into my favorite ROM! GREATING THE BEST ROM IN THE MILKYWAY!! UUUAAAHH!!
Thanks again!!

Ripping .cabs from other ROMS

I have searched for the last 2 hours and cannot come up with a good answer.
I have a collection of various ROMS that people have cooked up, for instance Blinky and others. There are some items I would like to grab from these ROM sets and either make my own or install a ROM and install these other file individually from the .cab files.
I guess the question is how would I go about tearing apart the .nbh file so I could get what I wanted from it?
ThanX in advance.
Use ROMDonalds kitchen to extract whatever you want out a ROM. Use the signature link before to search for the Kitchen!

how to take out theme from a rom?

i really like theme by CRC but MRH software is the 1 installed in my dopod currently.. so would like to ask is it posibble for me to take out the theme embedded in the CRC rom?
Maybe
I think you can just change your theme and then search the device for the .tsk and delete it.. But on the cooking side... I'm not sure, I've been trying to figure this out.. I believe u need to edit a xml file in the oemversion folder... Still looking into it though.
You can use this tool to extract what you want!
thank you very much!
Not really, That just extracts to nb files so you can swap portions of a rom around, much like the old "rom Koch" did (rom Koch also allowed you to break apart the roms into ther windows directories and such but I've had no success with the newer 6.1 roms).
I think the OP was trying to get the theme not the windows directory. Not sure how you'd do that as I'm no chef. I myself like the icons and things used in one rom but prefer the performance of another rom. Unfortunately I haven't got the patience or the right kitchen tools to rip apart the roms then recook them to my liking... Thats why I REALLY appreciate the time and effort put in by the chefs.. They rock.
Cheers...

The theme is just a .tsk file and you can use the aforementioned app to copy the .tsk file from any ROM and the use the same app to add it to whatever ROM you want.

Create one cab file of many different cab files

Hey guys.
I am not very into the topic cabs, but is it possible to create one cab that installs all the cabs of my favourite applications ? This would make the post-flashing process much much easier.
Thanks in advance
Tobi
Cant be done man, sorry. You cant mass install like 5 cabs in one hit. All you can do is create a cab to extract 5 cabs to a location
You can get a program to install them consecutively after one another (like Sashimi), however as luckyluke1137, that's probably not possible. If it were, WIN CE CAB Manager would be your best bet for manipulating/playing with CABs.

What's the story with Sashimi? It looks like it's been pulled whenever it gets posted (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=392983) and I can't find a developer's website (Google failed me). Any ideas? I presume it's a paid app and the developer is prohibiting distribution...
okay thank you for your answers...unpacking the cabs to one folder is not nessecary because they are all in one folder on my sd card. Just thought if there was an easy opputunity to install all of them "one-click". but seems this is not possible.
Most rom are UC compliant and it's very easy to write a quick script to install all your favourite apps as part of the customising process just after the flash takes place.
I've a script to install a few apps and also to setup my email account. You can also do loads of other stuff to if you want to such as setting power settings etc.
Take a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366337
thank you very much crankshaft. i will have a look at it. only have to find out if the roms i use (leos) are UC compatible. but this would be exaxtly what i was looking for !!!

No worries mate. Most roms are UC compliant, having said that though I've just seen that Dutty's forthcoming rom will not be but I'm sure he'll get round that eventually.
Hello,
its possible with commercial software or trialware. but it's time consuming because you have to extract each cab merge the install setting files merge the registry settings file then rebuild the cab test the cab etc... i have done it one but with uc it's not important enimore.
i suse this method only to incorporate custom settings in cabs file.
@ tylwith okay sounds very hard to do. i think i will stay with UC then. Even if i will test dutty´s new rom because it looks great

I780 important please...

I'd made a tool to automate this. Attached here....i think ironeagle is using this to generate input.txt using this for his roms, so should work

editing registry
hi dreamtheather93;
my 12mb pp size untouched pdxbi1 rom is ready i will upload here soon.however i wanna learn how can i delete unnecesarry programs from rom like cnn or rss reader? how can i delete registry of these programs from rom? and last one, i knwo cab extractor and it produces everything when u extract cab file like nitflashfiles.txt, option.xml, .dsm and .rgu for the kitchen ROM. but how can i add these settings to rom? i know too much questions but i like rom cooking and i wanna learn it
once you've dumped your rom and segregated them into OEM/SYS folders, you'll see most of your packages in your OEM folder, sometimes some cooks put them into SYS folders too!
So, find the proggie, and just get rid of the whole folder with the app.
To edit registry, open the corresponding .rgu file in the folder in notepad and edit it.
I use PackageCreator2.7 by ervius to create packages, pretty nice and simple to use...search for it!
To build the OS/rom, I use PkgToolsBuildOS-5.3
I'm still stuck at a problem myself and i haven't found the time yet to get it working....
good luck m8, looking forward to your roms! cheers

Customize/edit cooked rom?

Hi all.
I have a Touch Diamond (bought in Denmark).
I have tried many cooked roms now and the best I have found than runs blazing fast is this one: httpREMOVE://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=483539 - with danish language (hurray).. (cannot post links yet)
But, I find the apps that are preinstalled quite old and I would really like to update them (and maybe completely remove some apps).
Is this possible? I don't know anything about cooking roms. I downloaded Gen.Y's kitchen but with this I can't open a .nbh fil - only .erv can be opened.
I hope someone can help me. I have finally found a rom that suit my needs (well almost), but it is just a bit outdated..
Best regards from Denmark.

Thank you very much for your reply.
I can open the nbh file with htcRIE.
I have found some programs in OS>IMGFS>SYS> and in OS>IMGFS>OEM that I would like to remove/update.
But that doesn't seem possible in htcRIE? I cannot delete any files..
Maybe this is harder to do than I thought?
Best regards from Denmark
Some .nbh files (roms ) are protected for delete ,change some files ; others no .
I am so close (I guess)..
I downloaded "Surface Kitchen" and got the rom file extracted.
I removed som apps.
I build a new rom - but here it goes wrong. Under the process it reports missing "boot.rgu" and something with XIP?
It builds the rom but it doesn't boot up on my phone, guess the boot.rgu file is some crucial
How can I extract the boot.rgu from the rom? Or can I use a boot.rgu from another rom??
Best regards from Denmark
