I am new on the forum and I am French. I heard a lot about you so I come to join has you.
I have a problem with my DELL AXIM X50 (520 Mhz, 64 RAM, 128 ROM). I have many article on WM6 for X50V but for mine...
So, I would like to know if it is possible to instal a ROM WM6 for my X50 or possibly if it is not possible, the upgrader with a ROM more successful than the 2003.

hey steven, can you provide some links and instructions on how to do a rom dump?
I, myself can't give good instructions on doing a rom dump but the download threads can. You can use the Grab_it program to dump the rom, fount at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=238945. The instructions are on the download page too. If those instructions don't work try the ones from aximsite found at http://www.mobilitysite.com/boards/x50-x51-forums/112267-tutorial-how-create-your-own-flash-images-your-axim.html. Try the 128mb version first with both instructions (2nd set of instructions only if the first one doesn't work). If you do have to you use the aximsite instructions, only follow the steps that pertain to the rom dump. If it gives you errors both times, use the 1st set of instructions again and check the sd card for a dump file. When you get the dump, upload it somewhere on the internet and give me the link. This is open to anyone with an X50(mid first) running the WM5 A02 rom image. Just do a hard reset first and then do the dump (dumping the rom will not hurt your axim). If you have any questions, feel free to post back.
Axim X50(mid) ROM
I have an Axim X50(mid) with WM5 A02 rom on it now. I will have the opportunity in a week or two to hard reset it and dump the stock ROM. I have just downloaded the grab-it 128MB version. If I get a good dump, how can I get it to you? If I get it to you can you roll a WM6 or better WM6.1 ROM for the X50(mid)? I am willing to use my device as a test platform (I have bricked it and unbricked it twice so development doesn't scare me).

The Qtek 9000 is sold in Germany with a ROM dated middle October 2005.
Is this ROM also available for download somewhere?

Maybe, we can have it a little easier, because I think, ROM dumping is very difficult and could also be hard to flash on other devices. For MDA compact (HTC Magician) for example, you had to edit the dumped ROM with a binary editor before it worked on other devices. Also, there often were problems with some SD card readers/writers, etc.
The best way would be getting a ROM update from the vendor (e.g Qtek) as a complete EXE-File. This could be flashed on other devices with the maupgrade_noid-Tool from xda developers FTP server.
So, it would be nice of you Qtek users, if you could write an e-mail to Qtek.ch!
They offer updates for Qtek users, but you need to mail your IMEI number. So MDA Pro users are not able to get Qtek updates this way.

Im wondering if its possible to create a rom for an x50 using WM6. Im new to this crowd but i dont have a problem getting my hands dirty. I have some experiance creating and hacking non WM phones so i figure i can probably keep myself from drownding.
I know almost all of the new PPC's and Smartphones are VGA, does WM6 only run on VGA phones? also it seems the only roms out there for WM6 are for VGA devices, is that the reason?. Im also wondering how hard it would be to modify an existing WM6 rom for the x50v so that it would work with the x50(if thats possible).
my PPC is 520mhz with 128mb ram QVGA

The process is probably the same as building a rom for a x50v, which is easier than doing it for an x51v as there is an issue for creating/modifying xip. However You can check if you can directly re-use x50v xip.

The thread helped alittle, pointed me to the tools. However, i still dont know if its possible and i dont want to try it and have the result of a bricked PDA.
I don't see why it would not be possible. You need to extract your nb0 to start, since you have it, you can always recover from a corrupted rom. I had already extract file from a x51 rom with success using those tools. I don't have any x50, x51 device to try it. But I already modified several x51v rom using those tools to be able to fix the CF bug on Football A17 rom.

Ill try some more but i think it's just waist of time. U really need a good coder like football to do this...

Hi, I tried flashing my x51 with the x51v ROM and it got bricked!!! Then I desparately tried for an SD bootloader image for my axim and after a few days time, a dear member, Larik, helped me by uploading both .nb0 file and the image file, so I got back my axim. Then, my word is that, never try it!

I completely agree with emk8314, why doesn't anybody create a ROM for x51? There are many able people here to make that ROM, and I am sure many people expecting that. So , please somebody do that!!!
I don't know about you, but I'm working on a WM5 aku 3.5 A03 rom for X50(mid) right now (almost finished, but need testers). I will try to work on a WM6 rom for X50(mid) after I am done with the first rom. As for your statement on someone making a WM6 rom for X51, why don't you make the rom yourself? After all, all the tools you need can be found here.

Yes, there is a way to make a rom for the axim X51. No, there is no kitchen that exists for the axim X51. You have to do all the dirty work manually. I will, however, give you the tools to work and a place to get started.
Most of the stuff you need can be found right here on Xda-Developers. You need the latest rom that Dell made (I think it's A12), the rom that has the os or aku you want, Xipport, and M'Relloc. A good place to start would be http://www.pda4x.com/read.php?tid=40125&fpage=3.

I tryed doing it today but failed lol my Axim is bricked theres no point in me un bricking it now i cant stand WM5 just gives me errors all the time where both my Wizard and Niki hardly ever.
Is there a tutorial anywhere that could help me on doing it?

This might help you get the X51 nb0 you are looking for. What rom are you getting WM6 from anyway? Do you have Xipport and M'Relloc yet?

Ive unbricked my Axim i converted the file to .nb0 i tryed to use Xipport but im not sure if im using it correctly. I dont understand what M'relloc does i tryed to use it but was confused. what i did try was to take the XIP from the Dell A12 Rom and insert it into footballs WM6 for the X51v i would prefer to use a different rom but cannot find one.

I forgot to mention you also need a hex editor. I say that you use HxD, found at http://www.mh-nexus.de/hxd/. Now in HxD, search (choose "find next") for the hex value "FE 03 00 EA" and go to the 2nd instance of it. Have Mammich's imgfs tools handy. Run the axim nb0 file through prepare_imgfs.exe and get the hex value that the imgfs starts at. Use the "find next" option again and search for the starting value of the imgfs. Choose "next" for a few times and then choose "select block". Change the starting value to "140000" and save the highlighted bunch as "xip.bin" to get your axim's xip.

Hi, everybody. I wonder why not anybody prepare some wm6 ROM for x51? Is it so difficult or the device not worth it???
Probably no one has the time and expertise to do it. It also takes time to test the rom builds for errors. It's already a pain for me since my X50(mid) broke and I have to rely on beta testers to test for me.
Ive stopped trying now. Would be great to have it though. I need some1 who can tell me excatly what to do other than that theres no point.

I`ve tried searching, but as the search only allows more than 3 character searches, I can`t search for X50 , I only get the message "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms. " when searching for X50.
I have found some guides for the X50V, but that is a different ROM.
What I`m after is the WM5 A01 Rom, so I can upgrade my X50 from WM2003 to WM5, I can then flash that with the A02 ROM for the increased stability that one offers.
If there are any threads that already answer this, please, just put the link here and I`ll follow the info on the relevant thread.
I have tried searching before posting.
If there are any custom ROM`s that are better than the A02 one, I`d be grateful if someone could let me know?
