Does any one out there know how to edit the .exe files so that I can turn them into VGA (96dpi) for the Uni?
I have tried with the Camera and WLanMgr modules and neither of them seem to work so I don't know what I am doing wrong.
I have tried PE Explorer, XN Resource Editor and Resource Hacker but none of them seem to work. Is there any sort of builtin checksum or protection.
Thanks in advance,
Pug
I think Visual Studio is the best resource editor for this job.
However, examine Azhad's work on fixed VGA apps, he did great work.
From memory, you have to create a new resource dll and sign it. But I'm not sure, I got for less direct routes personally.

I am using Tweaks2k2 always, the VGA hack is built in there. You just have to browse for the .exe file and click a button to apply "VGA brute force".

DPI aware applications just check in the registry which DPI is used.
QVGA Pocket Pc, 176 x 220 Smartphone & 240x240 Pocket PC have a resolution of 96 dpi.
VGA Pocket Pc & 480x480 Pocket Pc have a resolution of 192 dpi.
QVGA Smartphone has a resolution of 131 dpi.
This info can be found in MSDN (Windows Mobile Version 5.0 SDK, High DPI Display)
Windows Mobile Version 5.0 SDK, User Interface layout:
UI elements whose positions and sizes are specified in pixel coordinates that assume 96-DPI will be incorrect in high DPI. In general, all UI elements should be laid out using scaled positions and sizes, or relative to controls, fonts, or system metrics.
The GetDeviceCaps Windows CE-based function can be used to obtain a display's DPI by passing in either LOGPIXELSX or LOGPIXELSY as the second parameter. The CrosswordSample demonstrates how you can define SCALEX and SCALEY macros to apply a scaling factor based on information from GetDeviceCaps.
You can continue to work in pixels but remove assumptions about the DPI by:
Using the SCALEX and SCALEY macros to scale 96-DPI pixel coordinates, or using the metrics returned by GetSystemMetrics.
Expressing sizes or positions relative to other controls.
Expressing sizes or positions relative to a font.
Dialog boxes already use font sizes to determine their layout, so typically they need no special modification to work on high-DPI devices.
Here is an example of positioning a window with DPI awareness, where x, y, dx, and dy are pixel coordinates in 96-DPI:
SetWindowPos(hwnd, NULL, SCALEX(x), SCALEY, SCALEX(dx), SCALEY(dy), SWP_NOZORDER);
If you choose to scale 96-DPI pixel metrics, be aware of rounding problems when using integers. For example, SCALEX(a + b) may not equal (SCALEX(a) + SCALEX(b)) because of rounding issues.
For drawing lines or images and icons, the same should be applied.
So even if you change the size of the resources, the application will try to find and scale the image with the dpi found in the registry.
The dpi values are stored under:
HKLM/System/GWE/Display
Cheers,
.Fred
Thanks for the info guys,
Just read it so will shoot off and have a look at all the info and see which works best for me.
Once again, thanks.

Battery
I'm 200% sure the battery is gone, b'coz i faced the same problem with my Dopod 900. Strange, it was just 4 months old and the battery just gone.
I replaced it by warranty, but I was privately told there was a problem in some deliveris with battery
i was browsing aroud the net today and seen this

surely if they do it we can
im no developers but id love tpo see this working. couldnt it be made in a similar language to ifonz
It would be cool if anyone launch some idea about theme..
I had in my A701 something similar. Only is a wallpaper but i liked it. Take note about links in down taskbar

theres various ways it could be done wad and rltoday being two choices,Throttle launcher being another...
Star Trek is pretty awesome. I wish my HD could be like a Tricorder lol.
It already exists, but not completely functional in WVGA.
Take a look at http://www.pocketlcars.com/
It's a rather extensive theme for the Wisbar applications and looks awesome on the big HD. Problem is the high resolution, which causes some fonts to look quite small and others look huge.

i have noticed anything being odd
mind you i did remember to use the vga version and normally im the tit who normally forgets
I see the last posting here is several months old, so I thought I'd update with new information:
The newest version is now available in four native resolutions:
• QVGA - 240 x 320
• VGA - 480 x 640
• WQVGA - 240 x 400
• WVGA - 480 x 800
and its worth the money to buy it... i use it last time with my Touch 3G...
I downloaded this myself a couple of days ago, worked great on the HTC HD.

Hello Everyone. I'm probably going to regret this, but I'm finally going to post a few ROMs and Kitchens that I've assembled. I say assembled because I have not created anything except for some of the packages. Everything else is from other people and I've just put it together the way I wanted it. I say regret, because I will probably not be able to answer many questions as I really am barely getting this concept myself.
The main Kitchens are a mix of Chanvi/Oggi, and Tomme45i. I've taken the parts that I wanted from each and put them into one. I then added Sys/Xip of 23053, some Mega Packages, Iolite Packages, Jade Packages, some of My Own Packages, and whatever else I could get my hands on.
The First ROM will be a Super Ultra Lite WM6.5 23053. I've tried to strip it down as much as possible and still be able to run. It's as close to Vanilla MS as I could do.
Next ones will vary from 23017 light to M2D to Titanium to 23053 M2D etc... I may even try to create a specific one for SPB Mobile Shell 3 that will have SPB Shell and Weather Cooked in. Of course, it will be the Trial versions of SPBMS3 & Weather, so you will have to own SPBMS3 & Weather and have a valid serial number to use the ROM beyond the trial period. Who knows this might get people to actually purchase them when they see how nice they are.
I'm going to try to add a bunch of Packages and Cabs that people might find useful. Feel free to use them in your own Kitchens, of course!
One nice thing about this Super Lite Rom is that I noticed it connects to WMDC in Windows 7 REALLY Quickly and Easily.
As an added bonus, I'm going to post a video showing how to use the Kitchen to Cook your personal ROM preference. This will update as I get further along.
Watch Cooking and Flashing Video Here
More Coming Soon!!!! Well, as soon as I physically can.
PS: These ROMs are for the Trinity, P3600, D810 (NOT P3600i). PLEASE backup all your data before flashing any ROM from anybody. Also, keep in mind that these ROMs work well for me before I upload them, but I cannot guarantee that they will work on your phone, or that they will not cause harm to your phone. I'm guessing all will be well, but you've been warned...
Thanks to Chanvi/Oggi, Tomme45i, tnyynt, Ervius, and Many Others here.

This is the Latest 3D Mega M2Dv2 Home Screen running on a Trinity. The base Kitchen is from Tomme45i and then it was modified a bit. Mega M2Dv2 packages are from conflipper at this post: Thanks Bud! Kitchen includes both WM6.5 and WM6.1. I cooked a WM6.1, but did not keep it. It does work though.
Now I have to admit, it's sort of like a Blonde; It's Slow, and Short on Memory, BUT, it's Really Nice to Look at, and it is a lot of fun! (Note to Blondes: "Just Kidding! I'm a HUGE fan and a blonde myself.")
Is it usable? Probably not on a daily basis, but start deleting items and see how fast you can get it to run.
The idea behind this one was to see if I could actually get it to work. I know there are bugs, and it's slow as molasas, but it's running. I spent all night trying different packages to see which ones I could get to run in this, swapping out others, etc...

Download: The Kitchen is a Self Extracting File in Three Parts (Due to Server Restrictions). Download all three parts to a directory of your choice, and then Double Click the EXE file to start the Extraction.
Download Updated Version. Camera, Internet Tab, CommManager all working. Now includes Haptic Feedback when Typing or selecting Tabs. Much smaller Kitchen Download.
Download Updated Version 3. Changed Dialer to Diamond Style. Xtra Comm Manager Link Removed From Tools. Task Manager now Working but Moved to Utility. Phone Settings now Save. Added Bing Search to GPS Folder. This ROM is beginning to be a usable ROM. It's slow compared to some, but if you want a bit if eye candy, it works well. Seems to be stable.
thank you so much!

Thank you VERY much for your input. I Highly respect your opinion.
I'm re-upping the files now that are corrupt, thank you for the notice.
Oggi, I noticed something strange.
I copied over all the individual files to the Sys and Xip folders and when I go to "About", it shows 23053. But, when I go to "Device Information", it still shows 6.5.23017. Any idea what I've missed? Am I not truly converted over? Is there a file I need to modify or replace?

VERY good job to start with a clean empty ROM...
But, could you:
1) Leave the start menu at the top ? (Why on Earth not leaving the default settings if your ROM is meant to be a starting point for further personal customization ?)
2) Remove the Fancy Top Taskbar as well as ArcSoft MMS ? (Why adding 2 software that are storage-consuming (even if not much), and perhaps unwanted by end-users ? If your ROM is meant to be as empty as possible, there should really be nothing more than the OS itself - but the OS itself should have all the features available (such as HSDPA icons/feature activated, video talk and so on), of course !)
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I make my first steps for Windows Mobile dev.
I'm using Visual Studio 2008 with 3.5 .NET Framework and Windows Mobile 6 SDK.
I'm using a HTC HD2.
I have two Questions:
1:
The resolution of my HTC HD2 ist 480x800px. When I enter 480;800 as Form-size and select "none" for AutoScaleMode, my controls and everything gets messed up. The controls get resized, the form is too large etc...
Why does this happen?
2:
How can I apply the HTC HD2 skin for the "skin" in the Visual Studio 2008 Desig-Window?

You can't as far as I'm aware. This skin you see in the designer is just a made up one by Microsoft.
1: Download and install Windows Mobile 6.5 Developer Tool Kit
for a WVGA emulator!
2: Search this forum there are some Sense SDKs (e.g. Sense Interface SDK by eboelzner)
not the skin in the designer but in the app
If you examine the ClientSize property of a .NET standard form, on such a device, you will find that the system by default treats the area as 240x400 not 480x800, and smooths/renders objects to fit it.
The client area is the 'white' area of the screen. The 'Height' of the client area reported in the ClientSize object is just less than 400 as the Start Bar and the Menu Bar have been excluded.
When the orientation changes, so will these values.
THanks that helped a lot. I'm just trying it.
Hey,
this is my first contribution here on xda-developers and I hope you like it.
Overview
I've created a new skin for Microsoft Device Emulator and the designer view of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 (2005). It is based on the HTC HD2 device and it looks so much more appealing than the outdated Pocket PC skin that the emulator / vs uses by default.
In addition to the improved looks, the skin offers more advantages:
The WVGA Emulator window now vertically fits on your desktop when using FullHD (1920x1080) resolution (or higher).
You have most of the buttons that modern devices use available: Send, Home, Start Menu, Back, End.
Modernized Windows Mobile application development/debugging experience.
(I know of the imminent release of the first Windows Phone devices, but I'm sure development for WM will continue for quite a while, especially on xda-developers. )
Screenshots (Click for full size)
HTC HD2 skin (left)
Default old Pocket PC skin (right)
Visual Studio Designer
Installation
The archive should be extracted to Program Files\Windows Mobile 6.5.3 DTK\PocketPC\Deviceemulation [Program Files (x86) on 64 bit operating systems]
Changing the emulator skin ist easy: Just click File->Configure...->Display and point the Skin textbox to the newly installed skin xml file.
For changing the Visual Studio Designer please refer to the instructions posted here: Form Factor 800 x 480
Notes
You can rotate the device by clicking the first of the two icons on the upper right hand corner. The other icon lets you reset the emulator.
Skin was tested with Windows Mobile 6.5.3 Developer Tool Kit and Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition.
Known Issues
The hardware "Home" Button on the device does not always function as expected. According to this posting the hardware "Home" button is mapped to the Windows key (Smartphone Device Emulator table). However, when using the Pocket PC Device Emulator, the Windows key opens up the start menu, that's just how my emulator behaves. I couldn't figure out the key code for the hardware Home key - so if anyone knows the code, please send me a message.
I would like to thank:

I thought that image looked like mine... (you can tell by the corners!) Glad you found the image useful - would try yours out if I developed apps using Visual Studio Designer but if I ever start I will be sure to check it out!
Looks good. should be better than what i had to do which was manually adjust the old look which sucked.
Simply Exxellent ! Thanks !
Thank's a lot for you work.
It's wonderful ...
how to change the resolution of this skin cause on my laptop with screen size 1440x900 this skin is quite... big ' but standard Windows Mobile 6 Professional skin looks normal... Or there is maybe something messed in my VS config. If yes, then how to fix this ?
Because its WVGA the height of it is 800 therefore including the window around the skin would probably be more than 900 (your screen height) and not fit on the screen properly..
Thanks! I was looking for this.
