Microsoft has just unveiled a bunch of updates and bug fixes for the Windows CE 5.0, 6.0, and NavReady operating systems. The Windows CE 5.0 July 2008 update will do the following :-
Fixes a problem that occurred with DHCP when a device has more than one network adapter (KB954904)
Fixes problems with mounting certain SD cards, and with corruption of the transaction-safe FAT (TFAT) file system when power is turned off while writing
Fixes a problem with the flash adaptive layer (FAL), wherein it sometimes incorrectly reported that a flash device was full even though some free sectors are still available
Provides SQL Compact 3.5 SP1 functionality as a "catalog item" in Platform Builder, for potential addition to devices
As for the Windows CE 6.0 July 2008 updates, it will perform the following :-
Fixes a rounding operation in the software clock that sometimes caused system time to randomly jump forward by several seconds
Adds a "check for NULL pointer to resolve some issues"
Allows limiting resource calls on kernel threads in a PSL (program static library) context
Fixes a DEBUGCHK in DEBUG KERNEL that could cause a device to halt during booting if a USB hard disk was attached
Addresses a memory leak in the Windows CE 6.0 shell
Provides SQL Compact 3.5 SP1 functionality as a "catalog item" in Platform Builder, for potential addition to devices.

Windows Mobile 6.1 is based on CE 5, so, some will apply to us.
at my opinion we can achive this update only via coocking rom's from newer devices.......windows update in windows mobile usless

hi guys
i understand the wm2005 released here is the beta ver.
googling seems to suggest the final should have been released already.
do we have the final available on the forum anywhere?
cheers
aslan
There is not and probably will not be an "official" release for the Blueangel. Our copy is being worked on by mamaich and buzz and others, and has come a long way since it's early version. It is almost de-bugged and works well. I would not hold my breath waiting for a "finished" release....it's probably not coming.
Later....... 8)

i dont mean an official version, but more like a rom dump off a ppc which is sold with wm2005 final.
or are they not making a final? or is what we've got thy final?
PPCs and their software are so much together that you can't really take a ROM dump from another unit and get it to work on a BA. Bits and pieces have been taken out from the Himalaya, but a full ROM can't be used.
All WM (2002, 2003, 2003SE, 5 etc) are compiled SPECIFICALLY for each device which includes drivers ONLY for that particular device and the ROM contains a large number of XIP modules (eXecute In Place) which can only run at a specified memory address (Think back to when you could only compile code that did not have relocatable code addressing...)
If you can manage to remove a module from one version of WM5 the chances are:
1) It is incompatible with the device you are trying to move it to (Hardware is different / at different memory locations)
2) The module will be loaded at the wrong memory location causing it to fail when executed.
So although the base WM5 might be the same code wise the above problems will prevent moving the vast majority of items between devices using simple file transfer - we need the original code, compilers and device drivers to be able to create our own - very, very unlikely!!!

As far as I know most GPS devices are based on Microsoft Windows CE 5.0 Core it's like a small Windows with Start Menu, Desktop and so on, but this feature is locked down only to Navigation Software and Simple file browsing.
There is no final Windows CE6, only some RC versions.
Windows Mobile is also based on Windows CE, but that's a different OS tree.
Basically there is nothing You can do with the dump.
P.S. I think You mean Acer P610

Hi All,
Since I upgraded my Diamond 2 (Topaz) with windows mobile 6.5 (build 21854 French) and seing so many more recent windows mobile 6.5 build (latest 23081 looks amazing), I wonder what is the Microsoft windows mobile 6.5 upgrade policy.
Will we ever be able to upgrade our devices WITHOUT flashing ROM ? I mean, will it be possible to have something like desktop windows update that will allow us to upgrade our build without the need of a hard reset ?
I clearly understand the need of upgrading whole ROM to go from one major version to another (6.0->6.1->6.5), but I don't see the point of flashing to go through 6.5 updates.
Thanks for your answers
Thomas
Hello.
With the growing sizes of SD and microSD Cards it is (or will become) more important to have a good and reliable filesystem to store the big amounts of data.
Well, on Windows Mobile there is only support for FAT and FAT32, and as commonly known, they don't belog into categories like reliable.
Microsoft just introduced a new Filesystem called exFAT, which has quite a lot of advantages. Sadly, it is not supported in the latest Version of Windows Mobile.
When I searched the internet, I found that Windows CE6.0 R2 came out, which contains support for exFAT. There are also a lot of resources free to download, which should help porting exFAT to Windows Mobile 6.5
Windows CE 6.0 Evaluation Toolkit:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=7e286847-6e06-4a0c-8cac-ca7d4c09cb56
Windows CE 6.0 R2
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=f41fc7c1-f0f4-4fd6-9366-b61e0ab59565
Windows CE 6.0 R3
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=bc247d88-ddb6-4d4a-a595-8eee3556fe46
Maybe it is possible to port, maybe not. I can't tell, but maybe a developer here finds that interesting enough to take a look at it.
The drivers written for Windows CE 6.0 are written for running on CE 6.0 kernel that has a completely new architecture, as it is much more optimized for speed etc etc etc.....
Our devices are running CE 5.2 Kernel.
We'll have support for exFAT when Windows Mobile 7 will be released.
Windows Mobile 7 will run on 6.x or 7.x CE Kernel, where the exFAT FS drivers are / will be available.
*sigh* ... ok
Hello to all the xda community.
I'm happy to have find out this place, where is possible to find interesting discussion and useful things for my mobile phone ( htc hd2 ).
Really thanks to all.
i was reading some post in these days about personalized themes and other stuff and often i read that most of this things works for windows mobile 6.5 or 6.5.x
Well, my htc hd2 ( buyed here in italy ) mount the 6.5 wm but i read something different on my phone: in my Info Software panel i can read the os version that is 5.2.21869 (21869.5.0.82 ).
I'm pretty confused now....
Maybe i can update the os?
Thanks for your support again.
i must say sorry....
i found something interesting about the various windows mobile version.
here the list:
3.0.9348 Pocket PC 2000
3.0.11171 Pocket PC 2002
4.20.xxxx Windows Mobile 2003
4.21.xxxx Windows Mobile 2003 SE
5.1.xxxx Windows Mobile 5
5.2.xxxx Windows Mobile 6
maybe this can be useful for someone here
anyway i didn't understand yet why in most post it's mentioned 6.5.x or 6.5 if the wm version are the only that i posted up here...
can someone help me just to understand?
for example, in a thread it's write that the a kind of task manager can work for WM6.5.X (28205/23518) ROM ( i dont know why the site don't allow me to insert the link ).
How i can check out what kind of WM version i have installed?
As i wrote already, i can read that i have installed 5.2.21869 (21869.5.0.82 )
So...may i upgrade my windows mobile or i'm misunderstanding something?
Thanks
What exactly are you asking? You're running Windows Mobile 6.5, if that's your question. You are NOT running 6.5.x, though if you search you will find plenty of 6.5.x ROMs for your Leo. The numbers you're seeing on the info panel are simply the Windows CE kernel version and the Windows Mobile build number, both of which are irrelevant for most people.

5.2 is the Windows CE Version
21869 is the build number
5.0.82 is the AKU
There's a list somewhere stating that 5.0.x AKUs are WM 6.5
The newest 6.5.x builds have a higher AKU i.e. 5.5.x
They also have a higher build number like i.e. 23534
There's also a list somewhere stating which range of build numbers belong to which version of 6.x
I agree it's a bit confusing in the beginning.

Exactly.
I was asking if the phone has installed wm 6.5, cause i was read in the info panel that number that you explain now that is the kernel version

Ok.
So, the phone have installed the wm 6.5 until i use the official ROM released from HTC support.
It change only if i install, for example, a different rom donwloadble from here.
Am i right?

I think that you already understand that i'm new in this kind of things.
Thanks for your answer.
