Hi Guy,
After I updated to LSVW when I connect my VGP-BRM1 BT Headphone using the PocketPlayer 3.01. The sound was not good in WM5, and somtimes lag. Could anyone can tell me how to improve or fix it.
Thx
zxeat
Using a registry editor, I tweak the following keys under
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP
UseJointStereo=0 (DWORD)
BitPool=48 (DWORD)
MaxSupportedBitPool = 48 (DWORD)
After making changes, power cycle device.
This setting alone sounds great on my HBHDS970's using pocketplayer 3.01. I also set pocketplayer playback settings to FileCaching =4096kb, Audio Buffer = 2000ms. Set equilizer to 'headphones'.
I can take calls during playback -- pocketplayer pauses until I hang-up, then pocketplayer resumes as it should. No problems.
Haven't applied Sleuth's A2DP fix... unfortunately, still have an occasional 'skip' so WM6 (at this stage) still hasn't completely fixed the A2DP stereo problem playback skipping problem.
Cheers

Thanks for your advance, I've changed the setting which u're mentioned. But the background sound also not clear, seems "sa sa" sound in background.
Anyway, thx for your help
the only way to have crystalclear sound in wm5 or wm6 (according to me) is to use the widcomm bluetooth stack. it is not perfect (i must restyart my phone to gewt my headset to connect, but once connected it works flawless
perfect sound
ROM Chefs: any chance to splice the Widcomm bluetooth stack into a future WM6 release?
Thank you for all those superb WM6 upgrades.
I have one prob with all of them though. The Bluetooth A2DP gives a hissing sound. Using the Widdcom drivers or any of the registry improvements does not fix it. Downgrading to WM5 instantly solves the sound probs.
In WM5 changing from joint stereo to dual mono (in the registry) created the same problem, but changing the same entry in the registry does not work for me in WM6 (HTLM/software/microsoft/bluetooth/ad2p/settings/UseJointStereo).
Does WM6 always use dual mono or could something else be the problem?
Any suggestions are very welcome!
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx
Throw away your A2DP stuff buy a USB to 3.5mm converter with microphone and a good pair of wired stereo head phones.
I will definatly buy a converter as soon as I can find one that allows me to charge my phone and use the headphones at the same time.
Still, A2DP was working reasonably well for me on WM5, but it would be a shame to downgrade just for that.

Something like this maybe?
I'm using this one myself. With the longer wire to the 3.5mm plug it allows me to use my excellent SonyEricsson HPM-70 earplugs and HPM-85 cans.
the hissing sound has been mentioned many many times, search the forum for it.
There are no great solution to it, it depends on the headset, most headsets are not compatible with MS BT-stack
The solution : There are two ways to fix this, and it depends on which headset you are having,
1. You can try changing in the registry (find sleuths (?) post about a2dp fix )
you can also try my reg-fixes: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=278778
2. You can install the Widcomm stack, (it can go along the ms btstack just fine) but it is not 100% stable and so on, it has absolutly stunning audio quality though.
I did search a lot before posting. It is not easy to find much about it.
Well there is 1 solution, WM5. That is what makes it so strange. WM5 sounds much better than WM6 and/or the Widcomm stack.
I don't understand how everyone keeps talking about the stunning quality of the Widcomm drivers. They sound much worse than the WM5 microsoft BT stack.
I think most of the talk about drop-outs has to do with the headsets. I've tried many of them and only the HTC has a good range and no dropouts (even when connected to my laptop).

well, that is because the widcomm stack is far superier in soundquality than ms. BUT it depends on the headset!
Different headset works better with different stacks!
one must try it out for himself!
What kind of headset do you have?
and wm6 (and ms) is not known for having a good a2dp stack at all. if it works in wm5 then maybe you should stick with wm5 instead of switching. I mean AKU 3.3.1 (or 3.3) is pretty good it is fast and stable, while wm6 is considered "beta"
I can't really think of any specifik features that wm6 offers that I MUST have. But I use it to try it, and I don't mind loosing data or so, and btw. I have a plantronic 260 headset and it is great with Widcomm but one can't stand listenening on it in wm5 or wm6 because of hissing and bad quality (even after all tweaks)
With Sleuths A2DP fix and the manual registry tweaking (HTCtweaker doesn't do it fully), I set bitpool etc to 52 and it sounds pretty nice on the HBH-DS970.
[HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth/A2DP/Settings]
Value name=BitPool; Value data=52 (Decimal)
Value name=MaxSupportedBitPool; Value data=52 (Decimal)
Modify, Value name=UseJointStereo; Value data=0 (Decimal, Originally 1)
I tried almost all headsets. I can't remember that the results depended on the headset. All headsets had the same problem with WM6.
I do realize that my standards are probably too high and that no bluetooth will never do it. The Plantronics 260 is one of the few headsets that I didn't try. The 290 was a shock to me. Even wired the sound was absolutly awfull.
Even if the bluetooth is worse than WM5, WM6 has a number of features that are important to me. It is faster and definatly more stable on my phone. Most important however is that it has Voip built-in.
BTW the only headset that does a good job seems to be the HTC headset. It has a very good connection (up to a few meters), no drop-outs and you can connect your own headset to it, so it sounds reasonable. The difference in connection is not just with the HTC phones, but also on my laptop. A huge difference with any other headset I've tried.

Have you tried using the audio enhancement feature of htweakc_2.0?
Also, the htc headset is based on the itech clip r35 and itech clip radio, I have the clip radio and it works wonders for a2dp on my TyTn and laptop. The secret is that they both use bluetooth 2.0 class 2 which is a perfect match for the hermes. although I can still hear that hissing on wm5 and 6. I thought they upgraded the bt stack in wm6?
also a good 3.5 mm/usb converter that is coming soon is the one for the p4350 which is a wired remote control/3.5 mm jack
http://www.expansys.com/htc/p_htc_item.aspx?i=145157
or tocharge and listen at the same time you just need a y cable
http://www.expansys.com/htc/p_htc_item.aspx?i=145068
I think I've tried every tweak here, including htweakc. I do not hear any difference. Is the hissing for you the same on WM5 and WM6? For me it is a huge difference (WM5 sounds much much better than any reg. hack or even the Widcomm drivers).
I did also try the itech clip (don't remember the type number) and that had the same great reception as the HTC. The advantage of the HTC is the 3.5 connector for you own headphone. Unfortunately both of them are bluetooth 1.2, which is a slight disadvantage.
The convertor is nice(and I'll probably get one), but I like to listen to music in bed and do not like having the phone under my pillow

Did you read my previous post? Did you try to manually edit registry as I wrote? Htweakc doesn't do it correctly.
Yes I did try those tweaks, but they do not change anything at all
As far as I can tell the A2DPfix is aimed at fixing the skipping problem. However when using the HTC headset I have no skipping at all. Not 1 single skip in over an hour listening! I did try the A2DP fix anyway with no result.
On WM5 changing the jointStereo setting to 0 would introduce the same hissing that I hear in WM6. Unfortunatly in WM6 changing from 0 to 1 and back doesn't make any difference.

you know, if you are not changing jointstereo in wm5 then you are not using stereo, then you could just use any monoheadset (as the sound would be the same)
jointstereo = 1 = mono (there are hissing, but it is hidden in low quality audio)
jointstereo = 0 = stereo (hissing is more "bad" because it uses twice as much bandwidth )
and all the other tweaks that are out there they work on wm5 ! (remember you have to soft reset your phone after regedit...(and before that you must wait around 15 minutes for wm5/6 to save your changes to rom before reset)
most of the fixes don't make so much changes in wm6 .
but widcomm should give you a real boost, are you sure you are pairing with the widcomm stack (high quality audio setting???)
Jointstereo is definatly not mono. It is the default setting in WM5 and it is indeed different from Dual mono (setting it to 1), but it is not mono.
You can hard reset your device (hold the power button a while) to have the settings written instantly to the rom.
I am sure that I am pairing with the Widcomm stack (high quality audio). It is indeed better, but defiantly not worth all the problems that come with it.

Just my two cents, I had hissing problem before and it was nothing to do with the Hermes but my headphones needed flashing. It's only for the Motorola HT820...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=276406&highlight=ht820+update
But as you say you have tried other headsets I guess this is not the problem
Also there is a guide that might be usefull...

To be honest I think the sound is great in WM6!
I've tried the Widcomm stack again. The sound improves a bit, though it still sounds like Beyonce has a speaking disorder
Unfortunately there is no hands-free (which is more important to me than audio) and occasional skipping is now introduced

I say damn! This worked totally perfect! At last I can use my Jabra bt620s for music as well.
Earlier I had the skipping prob., later (under WM6) the hissing prob - and now it's just clear pleasure.
Thanks a lot.

Have you (or anyone else in here) used the Jabra BT320s?? Its the same kind of thing as the HTC clip.?
Im looking for something along them lines but not sure if i want to spend as much on the HTC clip version.
A couple nights ago, I was intent on getting my A2DP to work perfectly. I wanted clear, crisp, skip free music coming from my phone. Using this method, I have done just that. I'm not 100% sure all of the steps I'm including are necessary, but I've done this twice and it worked perfectly both times. Here goes!
Short way, But I'm not 100% sure it will work as well
1. Navigate to "LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth/A2DP/Settings" in the registry.
2. Set BitPool to 48, MaxSupportedBitPool to 56, and Use Joint Stereo to 0.
3. Exit, soft reset
4. Tell me if it works well for you or not...
Long but guaranteed way
1. Download HTweakC, install
2. Go to bluetooth tweaks, set audio quality as "Excellent"
3. Install Sleuth255's A2DP Fix cab then soft reset
[By this point, the A2DP is crackly and may skip...so continue]
4. With the registry editor of your choice, navigate to the following:
LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth/A2DP/Settings
5. Change the value of "Bitpool" to 56
6. Change the value of MaxsupportedBitPool to 56
7. Change "Use Joint Stereo" to 1
8. Soft Reset
9. Uninstall Slueth's A2DP fix
10. Soft Reset
11. Once again, open HTweakC
12. Change the A2DP quality to "High"
13. Soft reset
14. Enjoy crystal clear, skip free streaming music.
Also, if anyone can help me with an issue I've been having...Is there a quick way to set a pair of bluetooth headphones to automatically set itself as as wireless stereo without applying it each time in bluetooth options? I have a pair of BT620's if that makes any difference.
And
Is there a way to have WMP startup with my storage card's library by default? If not, is there a way to delete the library from My device?
Thanks! Hope this helps!
Has this technique eliminated the hissing aswell dude?
(No A2DP hardware to test sorry )
I have now done exactly as the "long" way said, and it did not take away the hizzing sound, (not with my plantronics pulsar 260 anyway)
so it is back to the drawing board!
thanks for sharing this Centurion, it is always nice to hear success stories..
but I would believe that the last step is the only one neccessary (htweakC)
too bad it didn't work for me.
The hissing on mine is definitely gone...I wish I could share it with you.
Hi, I just got my X01HT last week. May I ask which Windows Media/MP3 player program are you using to listen with stereo bluetooth?? I can't find the function in Windows media Player.
Thank you very much!
Hi, Pingubest
You can not use the function of stereo bluetooth on the default OS of X01HT.
In this case, you must apply cab files for the A2DP function or install WM6.
Using WMP...I've tested this 3 times on my phone now after 3 different flashes and it worked each time.

I don't see any logic for the steps 9-14?? Maby you soft reset to quickly or didn't save registry values properly. I usually wait a little the use the powerbutton to close down phone.
Step 5-6 I set to 52 (decimal!) and sound is great on HBH-SD970 and skipping never happens as long as there's not an object between the phone and headset. I'm running Black 2.5 on a Tytn.
Regarding the problem with the BT620, this seem to be ralated to that headset, I don't have that problem with HBH-SD970. Maby there is some firmware upgrade for your headset?

I think the stereo thing has to do with your headset also since my BT8010 works correctly also..
I concur Jompao, no problems with HBH-DS970's... no hiss and clicks nearly eliminated with Custel's latest 1236 build v1.2. Also sound with this latest release seems louder than the previous 968 builds. Save some battery power on my DS970's... sweet!

A2DP
I followed the "long steps" and it doesn't work for me. I am using Samsung WEP200.
doesn't work on mt 8525. It just makes the skips worst!!!!!!
the new lwsv rom is quite intresting seen from a a2dp level, it made my headset work almost as good as widcomm stack, although with the advantages of ms stack !

I have perfect stereo sound! It's all in the BT headsets you use.
I use the Nokia HS-12W and HTC BH S100 and the sound is as good as it gets. NO BACKGROUND NOISE AT ALL.
It's about matching the A2DP specs of the headsets to the M$ software, and not the other way around.
My opinion only, for what it's worth.
Can anyone explain what the values of MaxsupportedBitPool and BitPool stand for? Are they kbps or decibles or something else? I understand changing the UseJointStereo to 0 turns off Joint Stereo, but i want to know what the BitPool stands for.
I have a Motorola HT820 and can play music through it with no problems. I changed the 2 bitpool settings to 48. This definately improved the quality, but occasionally it skips (very rarely). So are these higher numbers causing too much data to stream and you get a "buffer" type pause.
Also if I convert back to Joint Stereo, will that cause 1/2 of the data stream, since its basically mono. If I could stream at 96 kbps in mono, compared to 48 kbps in stereo, I would choose the mono. Mainly because of the sounds of the high frequencies. The bass and mids sounds great.
On a side note I found that turning my phone's and windows media players volume all the way up improves the sound. I use the volume controls on the HT820 to control volume.
Ok, I didn't get very far with this fix...
I downloaded and installed HTweakC, but when I run it I get an error; HTweakC.exe "Argument out of range Exception". I am assuming that the bluetooth tweaks are in this proggy?
I also tried the shortcut way, but I don't have "LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth/A2DP/Settings" in the registry.
WTF did I do wrong here??
Any ideas?
I have
Cingular 8125 Wizard
G3 CID/SIM Unlocked
Rom Version: WM5SE rev 4.0 - WM5 without stylus but style!
2.26.10.2 WWE
IPL: 3.08
SPL: 3.08
Ok, One more thing...
I just went to my vehicle to play around some more and I found that when I have the BT stereo playing and a call comes in, the stereo is paused until the call is done and when it starts back up I either have no sound at all or it's skipping badly, but I went to the bluetooth device settings and held the click for the sub menu and then selected Set as wireless stereo, the audio straightened out and started playing fine again.
Could this mean the processor is too slow in the Wizard? Maybe if I overclocked it a bit that might help or am I just doomed to never have this work correctly?
Thanks again!
Can NO ONE answer my question above?
It looks like this thread is dead??
I really want to solve this audio skipping problem if posible!
Thanks

Magic!!!!
I have been battling with this for weeks. Finally something that works.
Many thanks for sharing that.
Anyone know of a way to get a bluetooth headphone paired up and ready to listen with a single click? Currently I have to activate BT via Comm manager, then enter BT settings, select the headphones and "Set as wireless stereo" all before I actually start any music playing. Ideally it would be good to be able to chain those commands into a macro which also launched the music player - kind a music mode button.
Maybe this is a feature of later roms? I'm currently still using Black 2.5, waiting for compelling reasons to move on.
Cheers

You can write a script but you must have MortScript installed (available here http://www.sto-helit.de/index.php?module=page&entry=ms_overview&action=view)
Basically you can get it to check the registry and if the Headphone profile has been detected (i.e. when you switch on your headphones), a series of keystokes can then set the 'wireless setreo' mode by opening the Bluetoock devieces screen ect, then your favorites music player can be launched.
You can also get it to close your music player when you switch off your headphones by checking the registry fir when headset profile is disabled.
Downsides are that Bluetooth must already be actived on the handset (so 2click solution ) before headphones are switched on. Also, the keystrokes will fail to start wireless stereo if you add/remove bluetooth devices because the relative positions of the listed devices will change...
Here is an example that works on my device - may need changes for yours;
RunCheck = 0
While (1)
HandsFreeState = RegRead("HKLM", "System\State\Hardware", "Handsfree")
If (HandsFreeState = 1 && RunCheck = 0)
ToggleDisplay(1)
Run "Windows\Bluetooth Shortcut.lnk"
Sleep 2000
MouseDown 25, 286
Sleep 1000
MouseUp 25,286
Sleep 500
SendDown
SendDown
SendCR
SendDown
SendCR
MouseDown 196, 309
Sleep 1000
MouseUp 196,309
Sleep 1000
SendCR
SendDown
SendCR
MouseDown 196, 309
Sleep 1000
MouseUp 196,309
Sleep 2000
Close "Settings"
Sleep 2000
RunCheck = 1
EndIf
If (HandsFreeState = 0 && RunCheck = 1)
# - Enter any code you wish to execute on disconnect here.
ToggleDisplay(0)
RunCheck = 0
EndIf
Sleep (1000)
EndWhile
Thanks for that. Do you find it's stable - I used to do similar things with the old Windows 3 macro recorder, but it often used to screw up when a window didn't open in time. It would be nice if there was a program to do it, I imagine one day the music app will do a quick poll to see if a device is available.
Yes its stable -I have it run on startup so it constantly running in the background. There maybe some battery usage whilst it is doing this.
I heard some BT stereo headphones automatically connect properly once you update to the latest drivers for the headphones.

I dont understand. Why do you need to constantly re-pair your headset?
With mine (iclip r35) it was only a 5 click job anyway.
1 click on Comm Mgr
2 Click on BT
1 Click switch on Headset
2 Click pair headset
3 click play music button on headset.
Takes less time to do than it does to write it!
That was with Black 2.5 too. only one problem I noticed was that B2.5 absolutely having the h/s powered off before activating bt via com mgr.
Black Majik is the same but seems slight better range and quality than B2.5

I don't have to re-pair. I have to:
1. click on CommMgr
2. click on BT
3. turn on phones
4. Settings, Bluetooth to bring up the BT settings window
5. click-hold on Bluephone entry under paired devices
6. select "Set as wireless audio" - phones are now active and linked
7. close BT dialog
8. close CommMgr
9. start music software
Your setup seems less fiddly, somehow your headphones are doing some of the work.

Have your enabled the (Make this device visible to other devices?) Under Start/Settings/Connections/Bluetooth then select Mode. If that doesn't work there might be another fix if you check out:

I have asked this question in several other threads and have not recieved a response. I have also searched all threads within 1 week history for A2DP content and cant find my question answered anywhere... so here goes!!
Can people confirm their experiences with A2DP on the official Wm6 roms.
Does the skipping still occur with default rom settings?
Do you still have to install sleuths a2dp patch to get things anywhere near stable?
Is default sound quality good?
Is tweaking the bitpool and other reg settings still needed?
I have battled with all other roms and my Motorola Ht820 headset to get skip free good quality audio and never managed to get it working consitently and was waiting for the official WM6 roms to see if they would crack the issue?
All feedback appreciated.

I've had no problems with A2DP in the official Dopod WM6. it works great straight after install with no tweaks at all. It seems to be skip free and with good sound quality.
The only problem I still have (and had with every version & tweak) is playing m4a files with WMP. When playing these files, the phone goes back to the speaker...

Big A2DP User Here
I'm a big A2DP headset user when working out, so I have been keeping a close eye on the sound quality with the different WM6 ROM versions here. As posted before, the version from Sleuth was GREAT in sound quality.
The "official" WM6 ROM from HTC for Cingular/AT&T (US) does have the registry entry for UseJointStereo set to 1, so that is great. However, I did see that the MatBitRate and SampleRate were also there and set to 30. So, following the "best" settings on this forum, I deleted these two registry entries and added the increased rate entry of SampleRate at 48000.
The workout this morning sounded as sweet as with Sleuth's ROM.

Sounds promising, just gonna try my headset now with official dopod rom. Fingers crossed. What head set are you using?
I have a parrot hands free car kit and I find the quality is best when I just leave all settings as is. I think the a2dp on this rom sounds exceptionally weel.
I'm using the Motorola S9 headset.
I still have the skipping issue with Dopod SEA version and SE HBH-DS970. Before that I had one of LSVW's ROMs installed and AD2P used to work just fine in that rom.
yup, the dopod release does not seem to have all the fixes done here. i have tried LSVW and black and no more skipping issue with my DS970.

Apply Sleuth's patch...
Did you apply Sleuth's patch? I wasn't sure if it would work on WM6 (official), but, thank goodness, it does! After 9 months I can listen to music!

Hi, Was hoping that the patch that sleuth did (to fix the looping code error) would have been incorporated by M$ into the release. Looks as if it has not, which is a real shame. Just about to flash Black Satin and will try with and without Sleuths patch and post the results. Thanks for all the feedback guys, much appreciated.
on a whim i knew what a2dp was but i just wanted to wiki it..
check out the LAST LINE...
Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP)
This profile defines how high quality audio (stereo or mono) can be streamed from one device to another over a Bluetooth connection[1] - for example, music streamed from a mobile phone to a wireless headset.
A2DP was initially used in conjunction with an intermediate Bluetooth transceiver that connects to a standard output audio jack, encodes the incoming audio to a Bluetooth-friendly format, and sends the signal wirelessly to Bluetooth headphones that decode and play the audio. However, many Bluetooth 1.1, 1.2, and 2.0 mobile phones and portable media players natively support A2DP, and most newer Bluetooth 2.0 headphones support it as well.[2] Bluetooth headphones, especially the more advanced models, often come with a microphone and support for the Audio/Video Remote Control (AVRCP), Headset (HSP) and Hands-Free (HFP) profiles.
A2DP[3] is designed to transfer a 2-channel stereo audio stream, like music from an MP3 player, to a headset or car radio. This profile relies on AVDTP and GAVDP. It includes mandatory support for low complexity Sub Band Codec (SBC) and supports optionally: MPEG-1,2 Audio, MPEG-2,4 AAC and ATRAC, and is extensible to support manufacturer-defined codecs. Most bluetooth stacks implement the SCMS-T copyright protection. In these cases it is not possible to connect the A2DP headphones for high quality audio. E.g. the Motorola HT820 can be used for high quality audio only with certain versions of the Toshiba bluetooth stack.
HOPE THIS HELPS!!!!
Offical SEA WM6 ROM fixed all my A2DP issues with my BlueAnt X5 headsets. (No tweaks at all required)
One problem remainds... it pauses/skips if Wifi is left enabled. Not sure if that is a software or a hardware issue (both protocols use the same frequency)

Hi, thanks for the article, but dont think this is the problem as I am now getting a lot better A2DP support, no problem with playing the audio or the quality just the skipping. Nothing really has changed, it is a bit more stable but needs sleuths A2DP patch to make it usable. My point is that is sleuth could fix this with a bit of code at home (no offence sleuth) then could M4 not have used the might of their developmental skillset to fix this most annoying problem.
No Problems
I have been running the newest WM6 v3 rom from VP3G:

And I've been using A2DP without any skipping. I've been using an iTech clip headphone and it works great.

Same for me. With v3 of this ROM from VP3G, I get crystal clear STEREO sound thru my Motorola S9 headset.

1. Yes, I still got skipping after installing vp3G's v3.61 ROM.
2. So, yes, I installed Sleuth's A2DP patch.
3. That is all I did, and the sound is pretty good on my Motorola S805.
4. I haven't dome any registry tweaks, though I may to see if it makes any difference in sound quality.
