EDIT: Nevermind, I extracted the RUUInside file and now i see the nbh i need, which is called RUU_signed.nbh. I will rename this and flash via SD.
When i extract the Ship version of the cingular ROM I need to flash (RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_3.62.502.3_6275_1.54.07.00_108_UOOS_SVN05_Ship), the large file I think i need is called "RUUInside," and it's about 60 megs and listed as an application. I can't tell for sure if that is the .nbh file i need to rename and put on my card to install the stock ROM via SD card. I am going to have to send my phone back to warranty and can't sync to flash, so i wanted to make sure everything will work right before i have them send me a replacement handset cause i want to wait till i have the new one before i clear the old cause i don't want to lose all my contacts and everything since i can't sync. Thanks in advance
welcome!
nice story!
yep, happy ending! flash away!!
What version of Activesync you running? Should upgrade 4.5 if you haven't already...
Cheers...

Hi all
From some research i've been doing i think i need to create a ROM image but i'll tell you my problem and let you recomend me a solution.
Basically i need to setup 30 PDA's (XDA Argon's running WM5.0) These PDA's will be running a program called service director and also have TOMTOM installed. What i need to be able to do is be able to create an "image" that i can just copy to each PDA to speed up deployment. It would also be useful should there be any problems in the field with the PDA's that they could just be hard reset back to their modified state after deployment. E.g with Service Director and TomTom installed. I have found out that if i create a folder on a memory card with a directory name of 2577 and put my .cabs in there that they will automatically be installed on insertion of the card. This could also be beneficial to me, but i don't think that it would be robust enough, especially if they drop the device and put their memory card back in after its popped out.
So what do you think my best options would be?
Thanks for any help in advance and if you need any info, just let me know.
Thanks
Andy

do the 2577 option but create an autorun program that installs the cab files and then deletes the 2577 folder, thus it wont re-install when the cab is re-inserted
That's ok, but then the engineer would then have to send the card back to us so that we could set it up again. E.g the card would only allow them to set the software back up once and then they would have to send the PDA back to us for us to reconfigure it should it go wrong again. We can't really afford to do this as they need the PDA to find their next job/update jobs etc and can't really afford to have it sent back to us everytime it goes wrong.
well there is currently no way flashing custom ROM's to the xda argon (HTC Panda?) and wont be until one or more devs get thier hands on one so burining it into the rom isnt an option. the only thing I can think of is to have it ask if you want to install the software when it is inserted rather than doing it automatically.
I didnt think it wouldve been available yet. Oh well, looks like i'll have to make it do it via the memory card for the moment. Like all brilliant companies mine just told me, here's what we want, now go and make it happen! Haha!
I take it the card will need to have some kind of .inf file on it to ask you whether you want to install it or not. I would try it, but my company havent even given me the PDA to play with yet.
All i have is an SPV M500(My own old phone) and knowing my luck, they won't work the same with the software we're using.
In that case, why dont you have the autorun RENAME the folder instead of delete it. Your users should then be able to rename it back in case of need (they should be able to do that!), and do the insert sd card thing.

Why not on original installation have it delete the file from the folder and also have in the same folder a IE web shortcut to the original file on a Company server that would allow them to download the file again into the same folder, assuming they would have an internet connection and the file is not too large to download and you can direct the download to that particular folder?
They could then take out the card and re-insert it to automatically install the program again.
Maybe a poopoo idea, but I guess worth a thought?
Good luck
C
the autorun folder is the same for all devices with wm5/6 so thats fine and you would haev to write a progra to do it, not an inf.
if you cant do it yourself im sure someone else on the forum wouldnt mind for a modest donation (myself included)

A software called SPB Clone was specifically designed to meet this need:

I don't think you can flash the ROM via bluetooth, but I could be wrong. One thing you can do is flash the ROM/unlocker directly from the memory card in the phone. From what I understand it needs to be a non-HD card (usually 2gb or less) and also needs to be formatted FAT32. Then you can download the 'imcokeman' unlocker, decompress it and pull out the *.nbh file. You will have to rename this to VOGUIMG.nbh and put it in the root folder of the card. Then when you activate the bootloader, by POWER>CAMERA>SOFT RESET it will load the NBH. Then you can also put a custom ROM on this way too...just pull the nbh file from what you get, and follow same procedures after the phone is unlocked. I've never done this before, but I have read where people have done it successfully. If you need more info reference this thread http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=20370&highlight=memory+card.
You can also d/l the unlocker there. The area where they are talking about using memory cards is like post 260 or so...good luck. Let me know if you're still stuck.
Also there's a great write up on the process here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=17473.
I tried that it just gets stuck in bootloader, it says "loading..." and nothing happends. what am i doing wrong?

1. Format your MicroSD card to FAT32 (YES - FAT 32 32 32!! not just plain old FAT) (again, this is not required if your card is already fat32; it is ok to have other data on the card). I have read that the card needs to be 2gb or smaller, though I'm not sure how much truth, if any, there is to that...
2. Extract the .NBH you desire to flash from the exe or zip or w/e put it on the microsd card rename it from RUU_signed.nbh to VOGUIMG.NBH
3.Put the MicroSD card in your phone and Get To the BOOTLOADER screen (camer+power+reset) it should then start updating with the .NBH on the SD card and the procedure should begin automatically.
you can also use this procedure to unlock your phone by flashing the .nbh from Cokemans unlocker just extract it and rename it VOGUIMG.NBH or if your stuck at that HTC screen and cant sync because your phone wont boot up.
---This really the best info I can give you...just double check everything you are doing to make sure that you are doing it right. As I said I have never done the unlock process this way, but many people have. Check the second link I gave you in my original post if you need more help...they'll be able to help you I'm sure.
I have done all of that but my phone just gets stuck at the loading grey screen and nothing happends. my phone has the latest rom from sprint. its the 6.1 and I installed it by the bootloader mode with the micro sd card. anything else I can do? if not I found a guy who can repair my mini usb port, but hes about an hour away.
You'll probably waist more time trying to figure this out. I would just drive the hour and get it fixed. It would be more of an investment really especially once you re-sale it for a new phone.
Plus re-programming the phone becomes a whole lot easir 8p
Yeah, that was my Idea, either replace it or fix it. maybe sale it as is and replace it for the touch pro.hmmm, lifes hard choices. what to do...what to do? 8 (

still waiting for someone to answer this please
hello, really need help upgrading my MDA Vario II (Hermes 300) from WM5 to WM6. Can't seem to make a ROM work, have tried the SD way and it just doesn't seem to pick anything up.
I am running
HERM300
IPL-1.04
HERM300
SPL-2.10. Olipro
Am I just using the wrong ROMs or am I doing something wrong?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Make sure your sd card is:
1. Smaller than 2 gig (non sdhc)
2. Formatted fat32 (not fat)
Then make sure the file is named hermimg.nbh (as in hermes image) and you should be good to go.
I've got a 2GB Micro SD card, formatted FAT32
well I've got no .nbh file with the rom, the rom is just an .exe that I cannot change. I'm guessing thats where I am going wrong is it? I need to put a .nbh file with the rom?
Many Thanks
Ahh, ok, your trying to install the stock shipped rom (upgrade), it sounds like.
You can use something like 7zip (I use 7zip, but it's just personal Preference) or winrar to extract the exe, the stock rom will need to have the 2nd exe extracted as well (there is another exe inside the original exe). Then the nbh file will appear that can be renamed and put on the sd card.
Also, what rom are you trying to install? Just to be sure.
If it's one of the ones from this section of the wiki you should be good to go.
Or if it's one of the "custom" roms found here in the hermes section of the forums, you should also be all set.
thanks very much for your help, followed what you said and it worked perfectly.
Thanks again!
Glad it worked!
Thanks for helping out boog. Closing thread.
Ive seen the program OpenRUU but can anyone tell me how to use it?
i want to flash from software 2.09 to 2.10 or above? is this possible? im rooted thru unrevoked but running a stock rom. Other than a gold card do i need anything else to use this program? and even if the ruu fails, it will not damage my phone?
thanks, adbird
EDIT: Actually do i need a gold card, my phone used to be branded under telus, but then i flashed a couple roms and eventually flashed the stock WWE rom, so do i need a gold card?
I have no experience with Mac but if you can't use a RUU, there is the PB99IMG.zip(which you can find using windows when the RUU is extracted) method which functions pretty much the same.
As for the gold card, you do need one, - debranding a branded handset doesn't make it unbranded .
Some people confuse "debranded" and "unbranded".
k thanks i guess i gotta go buy another sd card :/
There is no problem in making your regular card in the device, your goldcard, i.e., you don't need a dedicated microSD for gold card use exclusively .
but isnt clockworkmod kept on the sd? what if you format it
If I understand you correctly, you want to flash "2.10 or above".
Make a your card a goldcard ;
Put the ROM you want to install in the root of the memory card (/sdcard/ - in other words it should not be in any folder);
Make sure that the rom is renamed from something like "PB99IMG_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.zip" to "PB99IMG.zip" (zip is the extension, not part of the name);
Turn off the phone;
Turn on the phone while holding volume down, it should be recognized and you'll be asked to apply it.
will that unroot the device?
This might work for you
It helps flashing RUU's
WAIT, BEFORE YOU START, CREATE A GOLDCARD. IT IS VERY NECESSARY. THINGS WILL GO WRONG IF YOU DONT.
EDIT: YOU MUST BE ABLE TO BOOT GO TO THE BOOTLOADER MENU.
Firstly, download this file. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13240777/Desire Downgrade.ZIP
Extract the files.
Transfer the file PB99IMG to the root of your SD card (It is located in the extracted files)
Secondly, disconnect your phone and turn it off.
After that boot up your phone while pressing the volume down button and the power button.
The bootloader should be checking for files after awhile and once it found the file that is supposed to be in the root of your sd card, press the volume up button (NOT EXACTLY SURE, SHOULD BE THE ONE THAT SAYS YES AND CONTINUE)
It should be writing files to your phone. and replaces everything. E.G: HBOOT, RECOVERY,RADIO and such.
It should be writing files successfully and then it would ask you to reboot. Continue with the reboot and you should be having your Desire back to stock. Perfect.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THERE ARE RISKS INVOLVED LIKE FAILURE OF WRITING TO THE HBOOT. PLEASE REMEMBER TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. MAINLY, DO NOT BLAME ME FOR ANYTHING THAT GOES WRONG.
FINALLY, YOU SHOULD BE READING EVERYTHING UP TO HERE AND THAT YOU MUST HAVE A GOLDCARD (A GOLD SD CARD)
Hope this helps you and please ask if you have further questions. PM me if the questions cannot be answered here. Good Luck

Yes, flashing a RUU unroots the phone.
But rooting again is easy.
Feeling a noob to ask, even after flashing almost daily a new rom.
I want to clean some files from my sdcard. I backed up some importand files like Nand backup files from the folder clockworkmod.
I would like to know if it's save to remove the file "update.zip" or should i leave it or put it back after a reformat of my sdcard?
(If it's important to know. . . I'm running clockworkmod recovery 3.1.0.1 with s-off.)

I would copy it to your PC for safe keeping just in case.
You shouldn't need it. Once you flash a zip, the contents are unzipped and written somewhere e.g. /system for a rom. The zip is just the storage method.
Also, you downloaded it from somewhere, right? Just download again!
Still you never know. Unless you have zero space in your hard drive it can't do any harm!
I didn't download it, I think it comes from using the app clockworkmod (does someone know this?).
But you're right, It's a small file and I can put it back on the sdcard after I reformatted it.

Is this the file?
/sdcard/clockworkmod/recovery-update.zip
I think that recovery would rebuild this folder, including the zip, after a complete reformat if your sd, same as the other folders would get rebuilt by the rom.
I'm not 100% on that though, hope someone will confirm!
No, it's /sdcard/update.zip (but it's the same size as recovery-update.zip)
Oh, something complete offtopic, I see a lot of abbreviations here on the forum but I don't know what FC means.
Can someone tell me what it means?
FC=Force Close. Good you don't know it, means you don't get them?
I think your update.zip is seperate from recovery then. First advice still stands, you shouldn't need it but no harm to keep the copy. I guess you could unzip on PC to see what's in there?!
hi,
i think you are using rom manager, it should comes from this app.
if right, you should have got a folder ingherited from RM (rom manager) with another update.zip (but to be confirmed since long time a don't use anymore RM)
atm (at the moment)
Thnx for your reply's. It was usefull for me.
Can I close this topic myself and mark it as solved?
yes you can marked as solved by edit the title but yiu can t close this post
