The path is too deep (T Mobile compact 4) - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

hi.
i just got this phone. it is fav, but i am having a problem.
when i connect the phone to my Windows XP, i get 2 choice's on the phone.
Active SYNC or Disk Drive
i select disk drive so i can transfer files, but eveytime i try transfer a file, it takes too long for the windows pop up files transfer window to come on, and after few minutes i got a error message saying, " Cannot copy pioneer: the path is too deep".
Pioneer is the name of the file.
the file that i am trying to copy is a picture, and the name of the file is pioneer which is only 7 letters long.
Please help.
Kibria

Have you tried placing the file on your desktop first?
Not really a rom development question, but who cares?

I had the same problem. And pathtoolongtool.com helped me.

Having trouble with Rom

Hi, first off, I have used the search button to find a solution and have not been able to find one. I have a T mobile Dash and a SanDisk 8BG micro SD. I flashed the device with the 080314 rom and I am able to see the large SD. At first I was able to drag mp3s to the SD through file explorer and they copied to the SD. Now when I try to drag a file I get a circle with a diagonal line indicating that the drag n drop is not allowed. I cannot drag a file to any location of the device not just the SD. Any help would be appreciated.

First of all, are you using ActiveSync (for Windows XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center (for Windows Vista)? I'm only familiar with ActiveSync... On ActiveSync you should make sure that your USB connection is not disabled. Go to File -> Connections -> then click the appropriate button to enable USB connectivity. Hope this helps.
Hey Rip, I am using ActiveSync 4.5 in XP. I found that if I use the Shortcut that ActiveSync created on the desktop I can copy the files. I will let you know if the problem returns. Thanks for the fast reply.

run an exe/msi file from sd card

hello guys! do you have any idea on how to run .exe/.msi files using an sd card? i cant synchronize my ba for the reason that i still dont have a usb cable for it. i do update my ba using cab files only.
i have many useful utilities but some of them are in exe format. how will i be able to run these files on my sd card?
AFAIK msi files are exclusively for the pc, if a mobile app is provided as a msi file, it needs to be installed through activesync or wmdc.
exe files are executables for windows pcs and windows phones, but if a program comes in a single exe file, it looks like a pc setup as well. but you can try copying it to the sd card and simply click it in the file explorer. if you get an error message, it is a pc program.
what you can do, is install activesync or wmdc (depending on your desktop os) on your pc and install the apps you want, on your pc. normally that would install them, the next time you connect to your cradle/cable. since you don't have one, you should track down the cab files. on windows 7 they are located somewhere in c:\windows\windowsmobile\. i believe on xp it would be program files\active sync\
usually those installer routines extract a cab file in one of those paths and copy it to the device to be installed then.
also, if you don't have the possibility to sync, you should make regular backups of your pim data, best done with:
dotFred's PimBackup V2.8 for WM5 and above Download (Mirror)
thanks sir. that would probably help me installing those exe files.
i really have a hard time maintaining ang pimping my ba without the usb cable. still waiting for my cable to arrive here.
but then again, thank you for the information you have shared with me sir..

MTP Problems? Can't transfer files? Try this

If you've had this annoying problem, do the following:
Unplug your phone.
Reboot your machine.
Plug your phone back in.
Browse to the folder on your phone you would like to put you files in.
Switch Windows Explorer to "Details View" in the folder you just opened.
Then copy your files into the folder.
The lockup issue appears to be with Windows Explorer trying to build thumbnails as files are being copied to the phone. I spent hours messing around today with this and noticed the process stops as soon as explorer starts building thumbnails.
I've verified this fix to be working on 2 problematic phones with 2 separate Windows 7 x64 installs.

Help! Cannot copy some files from PC to Phone

So i was copying some flac music [overall it's more than 10GB] but the end result some files are not copied.
Even when i was trying to just copy one folder at a time, there will be files not being copied, and the copy process window just ended.
There was no error message on the PC [Windows 10], Just some sound but nothing was displayed.
Have been using two different cables [connected to USB 3.0 HUB] same results.
Help me, anyone experiencing this?
have you tried using adb push to copy your files to your phone? i connect my phone to a laptop running windows 10 and i use adb push and pull to copy files to and from my phone. i don't use the windows gui for this anymore. i've seen flaky behavior with using windows to manipulate files on android phones so i don't trust it anymore. it's not just with my pixel xl and windows 10 but also with other phones and earlier versions of windows.

How to transfer files from Phone to PC with Dex?

Ok so in the description of dex website it talks about easily dragging and drooping files between the pc and phone. But i can only seem to drag files from PC to phone and not the other way around. How do you transfer files from the phone to the PC?
I have the same question ...
windows shared folder using es explorer or total commander with plugin

Yeah I'm also curious as to how to get this to work on my MacBook.
[Pasting text from Samsung DeX to a PC]
1. Using a mouse, click and hold then drag to select the text that you'd like to copy from the Samsung DeX screen on a PC. Then, press the keyboard shortcut for copy or right-click the text and select Copy.
2. Place the mouse cursor in the area on the PC where you want to paste the copied text. Then, press the keyboard shortcut for paste or right-click the area and select Paste.
[Transferring files saved on your smartphone to a PC]
1. Open the My Files or Gallery app on the Samsung DeX screen of your PC, then select the files that you want to transfer.
Click and hold files with your mouse to select them. Then, click and hold them one more time and you will be able to drag the files to a different directory. (If you update the My Files or Gallery app to the latest version, you can select and move files just like you would on a PC.)
2. Drop the selected files on the desktop of your PC or its File Explorer.
※ If you drag and drop an image on a Microsoft Office document, you can insert the image into that document.
.
You can copy from most Dex folders i tried from Dex to PC . Open files tick file or folder then click and hold down on the same file or folder until it shows as floating from the original position then drag it out of the DEX Window and place it in your PC folder Done.
Neither of the solutions above worked for me. I thought the bottom solution was working but it only put a temp file in my Pc. then when i tried again it said the file already existed. I cancelled out and now my pictures are gone.
Use a usb cable and transfer directly.
Keep it simple.
Always copy, then verify, then delete; not cut and paste if files are important.
Best to use a SD microcard as a data drive in the 10+ as well as backing up those files on a PC.
If not in the trash bin those files are most likely lost.
Easiest way I found is open PC and phone in Dex...then open file explorer on PC... In file explorer you should find your phone...should be under This PC /phone mine says This PC / S20 when I open the S20 it is just like using explorer on any drive. I cut and paste the files I need from there.
Okay after being totally frustrated, IT DOES WORK!!! You can't copy files to all locations on you windows PC like network drives but it definitely works dragging to desktop and root level hard drives, I did C: and E:, both direct attached to PC. I also did USB connected external hard drives at the root level.
Also, aholic_2, you've ALWAYS been able to transfer files the way you mentioned, for 10 years or more, you don't need DeX to do that either.
Cheers
