Confused - Which ROM to use? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

Hi, I have changed 2 ROMS already and new ones are coming out every day. I'm getting confused! How can I tell whether I should replace my existing ROM or not?
Could anybody please make a list of all (or some) ROMS that are available and next to each version write why should anyone use THAT rom rather than the others...
For example :
version X.XX build XXXX - "If you want speed, don't need mind missing Opera, and your phone sleeps right after you answer a call, use this ROM"
Dunno if it makes sense... But I'm just confused now.
(btw i now have the 1.93.456.2 WWE rom with 1.00.25.05 radio, whatever it means. Should I update it and if so, why?)
Thanks in advance and forgive me if this question is not in the right thread, im kind of new here...

ok......
only way to find out whats best for "you" is read the forums
take time...its all here...just read and learn
good luck and have fun

Please help!!

Hi everyone,
I'm very new to the world of cooking or flashing roms etc. I appreciate this will be quite boring to most of you, but I was hoping someone could help me understand the basics. I'm from the UK and have just brought a HTC Touch Diamond on Orange network which I am very happy with. I am however keen on the idea of trying a new, potentially faster ROM. I currently have 1.37.405.1WWE. I have read a lot of good things about Manila and some others on here (elite) but I'm unsure whether to try one or not. My first question is how hard or easy is it to install a new ROM and what could go wrong? Could a newbie potentially ruin my new phone? Can I re-install the old ROM if I don't like the new one? I have read a lot about people doing manual changes etc , but I don't know any coding. Do I need to? I have searched the forum, but couldn't find any answers to such basic questions. Please could someone help me?!?!?
Thanks
It is not very hard to flash your phone with the ROM of your choice and usually it's quite safe as long as you follow the recommended procedure. Installing HardSPL is the first step which will ensure that a cooked ROM will not "brick" your phone. This is flashed as per the normal flashing procedure. Following this, you can choose the ROM you fancy ( I use Bepe's and I am very happy with it) and flash, again using the same procedure. The cooked ROMS are much faster than the stock ROM and usually very stable. Bepe produces 2 version of his ROM, Basic and Premium, whose major difference is that Basic does not include TF3D. Finally you can also flash a Radio ROM if for whatever reason you are not happy with the connectivity features and stability provided by your current ROM.
No coding required to do any of the above.
there is a nice guide here which shows you step by step how to flash a ROM:
http://modmydiamond.info/
direct link to upgrading ROM:
http://modmydiamond.info/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=26
I reckon the "flashing" part of your question has been answered.
Regarding the "cooking" part, what can I say... You won't learn till you do it yourself.
There are a few excellent guides out there (you can start with the xda-dev wiki)
And remember - search is your best friend. Both questions could have been answered if you'd have searched the forum.

What is the latest HardSPL and ROM in this forum? Thanks

I just bought a touch diamond (US 3G version), and would like to try some customized ROM released here.
One simple question, what is the latest or best HardSPL we can find now? I know there are a lot of threads about hardspl in the forum. But just too many. After 2 hours of reading, I still do not know which one is the newest one and the best one? Could you guys point me the direction and give me the link of that particular thread? Thanks a million.
Also, about the ROM, I am looking for a ROM with original HTC looking (basically black today screen and black touchflo 3D, though blue is probably fine with me), but faster, with all the tweaks applied. And if possible with latest OS builds. Any suggestions?
I did search and reading a lot. Just confused with so many different HardSPLs and ROMs. Hope someone more familiar with this forum can help me out. Thanks!
SPL's & ROM's...
Unfortunately, like so many things, ROM's are based on personal opinion, so there is no 'best' or 'worst', just one's you like and one's you don't.
Try here for your SPL - both GSM and CDMA versions covered. You must do this first or you'll end up bricking your device.
Next, just try the ROM's until you find one you like. The one I'm currently using is pretty much standard (as you would like), but with all the latest versions of applications / software and the latest drivers, etc. I think you'll like it! Try here.
Don't ask me how to tell if you have CDMA or GSM device because I've no idea how to tell the difference !
Have fun
AFAIK there is a sticky thread about HardSPL !
AFAIK in forum rulez the question whats the last / best rom are disallowed !
just read some threads please !
In the HardSPL thread the first and second post Oli explains everything Who should use what HARDSPL ... so dont think thats complicated.
Please UTFSE and flash some so you will know what u like best !!

One more question, I am working in a high building, and my desk is in the 3rd floor. I am getting very poor cell phone (GSM, T-mobile USA) here. I am wondering if anyone can suggest a better radio ROM for T-mobile USA? I really want a better signal reception. Thanks in advance!

a question i cant seem to find the answer is touch flow and minila the same thing and what is highest of that software that can be installed and working properly on the 8525?

what ROM should i put? standard or modded? pls

heya there,
i am kinda new around here, i know a little about themes, programs and stuff, but now i want to change my rom, i have the original one:
ROM: 1.93.479.3 WWE
DATE: 07/25/08
RADIO: 1.00.25.05
my question is, what rom should i install, the official one, which come from the producer site, or a modded one found around here on xda?
i searched the forum, dont get me wrong, but my problem is, if i put a modded rom, which one, which one is working well and without many errors.
i know that all of them r made by enthusiast ppl who dedicate their time to make such a great job, but i am kinda stuck in the fields, i dont know which one to pick, realy.
if anyone tryed some of them and can share some experience i'll be very glad.
i sow that the radio version is very importat, some of the roms arond here have some apps missing and some apps new comparing with the original ROM realise.
duno realy what to pick.
About TF3D thems i read some and used some, at this very moment i use the Dirty Paper Theme By Zitoun, awsome theme, and now i think i gona try the Copton GoliaX, i'll be thinking about.
all the best, teo.
PS: if u guys realy think that i shoud search and try it myself without any help just shoot, i dont mind. but i dont want some savant asistance, some main ideeas, maybe what to search, or what to look at when i search for a modded ROM.
Hi,
I had the same question, when I just got my phone and find out about this great site!
I was told to try myself, and find out whitch is best for me! I was mad at first, but now I get it. Everyone has theys opinion about the best ROM, one likes stock, other moded. Another likes this aplication, for someone that aplication is useless!
So try yourself!
What I like and worked for me, and many other people, you can see in my signature! Fast, stable, with aplications that you might find usefull! Also upgrade your Radio, also I like one in my signature!
If you want stock ROM with performance upgrades try AZTOR X2 Ultimate!
thanks a lot for your reply, i will try them, and i know what u said, i usualy search and after ask for directios, but now i searched and there are too many, or semes to me that are too many thats why i asked here, for some ppl to share some minimum experience with some ROMs.
i found VIPER rom ,althow and some others. i will look after yours, maybe it will be good.
oh, btw, is there a diference between 6 or 8 MB roms, read something about that.
the old rom will be completly erased, yeah? it will be replaced by the new one? and after a hard reset it will be still the new one?
thanks, teo.

I don't know what you mean by 6 or 8 mb roms, but there is such thing as pagepool that you can set to 6-8-10-12 mb etc. I don't know much about that, I know more is better! There is sticky about pagepool!
Yes, the old rom will be erased, and yes it will be replaced by the new one! And yes after hard reset it will be the new one!
There is a sticky about rom flashing, in the biginning it looks like it's conplicated task, but aqtualy is very easy! Just read the sticky!
oky, i am going to read more intensive about this matter, and hopefully, in the end i will find a good, stable and well done rom.
thanks againg for the advices.
teo.

what do I need to do?

Hi guys
I have a totally stock phone atm and I want to mod the UI. To be honest Im not sure where to start! I want to get a few things running such as the analogue clock and a custom theme. My questions are pretty noobie so please bear with me:
1)DO I need to flash the ROM and what benifits does this give?
2)I have read about there being an old and new manilla. How can I tell which I have and do I need to upgrade if I get a new one?
3)what are the chances of me bricking my phone if I mess with this stuff? (especially the ROM flash)
4)I have experience modding phone UI's but I have never done a smartphone before. Is there anything specific I should know regarding the differences before I start going too in-depth?
any and all advice would be great, cheers

If you follow crackwhores guide, you cant go wrong. You wont be sorry if you flash a cooked rom. Flash NRG28's latest Rom, or one of Dutty's or Miri's, just check out the Rom Development Forum and see which one takes your fancy. I have found NRG28's to be best for me, but they all have something to offer, for me, the biggest benefit is the difference in speed, i couldnt believe how much faster my HD was the first time I flashed it. If you get stuck with anything, just ask and someone will be able to help.

1. No, there is no NEED to. But a non-exhaustive list of benefits include updated applications, faster response times, less bugs, etc.
2. If you go to the settings tab in TouchFlo and look down at the About section, it tells you what Manila version you have.
3. Most flashing issues are completely recoverable these days. However, there is always that miniscule chance that you muck up your device completely . However, if you follow my guide you really can't go wrong.
4. There are some tutorials on skinning and Manila modding in this forum. I would suggest reading through them!
thanks guys, that's put my mind at rest a bit! Time to get flashing
