Hi all,
I just installed the 4.02 Touch ROM on my Artemis. I also installed PhoneAlarm 1.67 to handle profile changes.
Now I have a problem that is driving me nuts!
The screen is set to go to sleep in 2 minutes in the settings.
The screen DOES go to sleep after two minutes but wakes up by itself almost immediately thereafter.
The flashing on and off of the bright screen at night is driving me crazy, not to mention the battery drain.
How do I KEEP the screen off permanently till I press the power key and not until then as was happening with WM5 which I had earlier before upgrading to this Touch ROM?

Apologies!
But as I said, I am going crazy!
Any Help anyone?
I really am breaking my head over this.
Hope I do not have to dispose of the phone.
I'd rather have a good night's sleep.
I can't turn the phone off since my profession is such that I may get important calls at any time.

Hello!
When I owned the Raphael I used the Smartlock or S2U2 (tested) to autlock the device!
I was wondering what you use to that purpose!
Thanks
Am actually not using any screen lock software at all. When I want to lock the screen I just put the device to sleep using the power button. This has worked very well for me in the past.
I use Throttlelock. Works nice!

A long press on the hangup key (most right hardware button) also locks the screen.
smartlock has been known to cause some problems in the past..I was using TPC's 6.5 ROM and it had smartlock, and when I tried to use a PIN to unlock the phone, (which was requested after the initial sliding-to-unlock motion) the phone froze up. a softreset fixed it, but after that whenever I tried to disable the PIN, the phone would freeze. I'm using S2U2 v2.02 with my tilt, and when I get the TP2 I'll continue using it. (unless smartlock gets those bugs ironed out.)
ok I know this thread is a couple months old, but my question relates to it.
Regarding Throttle Lock, does it have any issues like S2U2 some users are having such as draining the battery?
Is there any configuration for Smartlock? I've been using S2U2 for so long I forgot about it.

I am noticing a mysterious battery drain since installing S2U2 on my TP2. I'm also noticing that the "Device Usage" in the power information screen is a lot higher than the amount of time I've actually had the device powered on. I am also now looking for a good alternative to S2U2. I don't like Throttle Lock (just personal preference).

I'm using pocketshield now, light and low power consumption + it's cheap ! And one more thing there is an unlock with light wich is great ! and many other features....
after several seconds,pro2 will automatically turn off screen and locked, why you still need a auto-lock??? he can walk, why you buy him a walking cane?

The screen goes off and your device goes into standby, but it's not locked. If your phone rings but you missed the call, your screen will be on and will be susceptible to accidental screen taps.
My personal favorite is DeviceLock. It uses zero resources and utilizes the default locking mechanism.

My friend told me of one which scans your eye to unlock it...
Is he telling me prokies

Thanks, ohyeahar. After spending two days trying to get Touchlock Pro to work reliably I installed this and it just works. It's a simple app but it just may be the best find for my TP2 yet.

I tried pocketshield 3.0, but it drains battery and I don't see anything being locked (though it is locked sometimes)
Uninstalled the program but still my battery drains rapidly, using 450mA all the time

What do you use t show current usage?
Can you explain exactly how you are measuring battery drain with PocketShield. I am MUCH happier with PocketShield than the other locking mechanisms that I have tried (S2U2, Devicelock, etc)
But I have noticed that I have pretty fast battery drain - just didn't associate it with PocketShield. With other locking programs I notice that my screen is often on when I take the device out of my holster so I just assumed that they were allowing for increased battery usage. With PocketShield I don;t notice the screen coming on so much.
Why was this phone introduced by Verizon or Sprint (or even HTC for that matter without this issue being fixed better?
I use Battery Log to see the current used.
After 12 hours just stand by the battery power is less than half the full power! So this phone now is useless!!
I will have to start all over again
All, i'm having a huge problem. beginning last weekend, whenever I wake up I find my phone clock has become nearly 5 minutes slower.
Because of my sleep schedule on the weekdays, its always 5 minutes late by the time i wake up. strange thing is, within 10-15 min of my phone being "awake" I assume the auto clock sync corrects the wrong time and by the time i'm i'm driving to work the clock's time is right.
i tried turning off wifi one night i think a couple days ago to see if it was some type of strange wifi issue and i found that with wifi turned off, my phone was almost 20 minutes off on the time.
This has affected strangely my alarm clock as well and sometimes it doesn't even go off and i naturally wake up and check and it shows the screen where the alarm clock is running, asking me to "dismiss" or "snooze"
This is super cumbersome, is ANYONE else having this issue with the hox? my only conclusion is while i am sleeping and my phone is on standby for many hours something isn't quite doing its job. maybe something like the phone time being off, i don't know, like 30 seconds an hour or something. I'm still on 1.73.
during the day while my phone is turned on every 30 min to an hour, my clock is perfectly sync'ed.
please help.
turn off auto updating and manually set it - does it still happen?
it could be a conflict between phone time and network time, and the phone stops checking when asleep?

Are you using a custom kernel? Some kernels can have time slew issues. Most people don't notice it. I use Clocksync from the market to keep synced.

i've only rooted it for titanium back up. kernel is factory. i am definitely going to look into clocksync as well after tonight's test. thank you.
i can confirm after i turned off network clock sync that it indeed was not the problem and that there is something inherent in the software that is slowing down my clock on my phone overnight. thing is i don't have any crazy apps. this is so strange.
anyways i have downloaded ClockSync and seeing if this will fix the problem. thanks
My problem is simple, my HTC One X wakes up on his own. It acts as if I had pressed the power button to get to the locker screen.
It's very random. It can go hours without doing it and then it wakes up several times in a row.
What can cause this ?
No one else experiencing this? I had this problem for awhile too.
last time my acer iconia a500 gt tis issue due to wifi sleep policy, may u try google a500 wake/sleep issue...hope tis help
I asked the same question as my HOX would wake up over night whilst being charged.....
What I was told is that HTC built in something that means if the phone is put on charge with less than 50% battery left it will turn itself back on once fully charged!
More than 50% and it won't...
Dunno whether that helps or not?

Which ROM are you using?
I'm on ViperX for the time being and I'm pretty sure it's related to my ROM...but only happens during charging...
In some messages I have seen that if "System Tuner App" is installed it causes something like that... I don't know if it is really related with our issue cause I did not uninstall System Tuner to check it out...

I guess you are talking about HoX's getting on while charging AND when you leave the device OFF...
But the situation here is when you turn off the screen only and leave it like that while charging...
Anyone notice problems with the NY Times app recently? I noticed some high network activity out of my Note Pro over the last few days, and dug into it last night. Turned out, my tablet never went to deep sleep, and looking at battery usage, the NY Times app was behind only the OS and System.
I can't uninstall the NY Times, but I can revert to the factory image, and that seems to have put a halt to the network activity, and also the tablet is now going into deep sleep again. So it looks like it was an app update, somewhere along the way?
What's deep sleep as opposed to sleep as opposed to going into airplane mode?? Your posting about the ny times and sleep is difficult to understand.

Not difficult to understand at all, this is apparently a wake lock issue with the application.
Tapping the power button to turn off the screen puts the device in sleep mode but CPU speed still varies as background activity continues. Application processes can place wake locks on the CPU to keep it from going into deep sleep which is the lowest power consumption setting. A device that never goes into deep sleep will experience higher battery drain with the screen off for extended periods than one that does go into deep sleep. Sleep has nothing to do with airplane mode, which turns off all radios and has no direct impact on CPU.
First thing I would try with the NY Times app is turn off all notifications for it. Personally I don't use it and have it frozen so I can't verify the wake lock issue on my device.

Much better explanation than I could have given, thanks! So wish I could root my tablet (a Verizon...), feel like I'm trying to debug things with both hands tied behind my back!
So far, the NYT problem hasn't come back - can't freeze or uninstall it without root, but have removed it from Magazine UI and basically backed out all updates by restoring it to its factory image and clearing its data. BTW, it was set to only get updates every 4 hours. Obviously it had a different idea.
Yeah I hate it when apps get like that.
It's times like that where I'll use Greenify sparingly to push the misbehaving app into hibernation. Otherwise I'll just let android do it's thing.
A few days ago, I noticed the NY Times app only it's you view 10 articles for free every month. I was going to say, why not trash that garbage? It requires root, though, since it's actually a system app. That is just profoundly stupid.
At least Samsung didn't pick CNN as it's news app, amirite?
Hi all just want to share my experience with the screen locking issue (won't wake from sleep).
It has been a real pain in my ass and lately was getting worse.
So I'm happy to say after 7 days I have not had the dreaded screen freezing at all, all i did was turn off the keep screen awake while charging. i turned it off and no more not waking while hitting the power button. I'm not saying this was the cause for every user a fix everyone. For whatever reason it did work for me and I figured I'd share and maybe help someone else.
Just wanted to update, after 2 weeks my screen has not frozen once.
My device exhibited the same behaviour on stock 4.4.4. Meaning, it did not wake up from sleep upon power button press. It eventually woke up, after a couple seconds or maybe up to 30 seconds.
I have not had the option ticked you had, for me it was a custom kernel I used. I am back on the stock kernel and have not had any spontaneous reboots I had before nor does my device not properly wake up from sleep. All perfect.
As the user above, I am simply sharing my experience. Your mileage may vary.
