Need help for my Dell Axim x50v recovery - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi, My Dell Axim x50v which installed with WM5 A01 is hang around 80% when booting up. It is working fine for few months before it is hang like that. So I decide to use the SD bootloader to downgrade it to WM2003.
Both bootloader and the image updater was running successfully after modify the CRC checksum. However, after perform the hard reset after image update, my Dell Axim x50v is just hang at the dell logo (since WM2003 doesn't have the booting progress bar, so not sure how is the booting progress).
I'm also tried to use the IMG2NB0F.exe to convert the WM2003.img file form Dell update. However it only create a 0byte .nb0 file.
What I should do next to recover my Dell Axim x50v?
Appreciate for your help and advice!!!

since you had WM5 (if you still can get there), it may be still possible to reflash to WM6 using sd-flash-method. (if you have the wm5 bootloader.), if not (and you have the wm2003se bootloader), search around here , tsomewhere was a post, how to reflash wm2003se and/or directly flash wm5/6 using wm2003se-bootloader. - search around.

As mention in my first post, I'm already successfully downgrade my Dell Axim x50v to WM2003 bootloader and rom.
However it's go hang at the dell logo after hard reset.
I'm still looking for the clue to recver it. so far not seen the post that you mention.

Any help there?

still no luck.
it is even worst now because when I'm boot to SD Image Update (Wireless+Power+Reset) there is no image (nb0) shown!!!!!
I already tried to format my SD card to FAT32 again, tried with another SD cards also the same thing. No image shown....
However if I pull out my SD card and then boot to SD Image Update, it tell that no SD card detected. so my SD card slot should be healthy for the moment.
I'm also tried different nb0 file prefix "DiMa", "DiAd" and "WM50", all didn't show up.
Please help!!!!
Update:
Just called Dell Support, they said there is no repair service for the Dell Axim x50v. I Can't send it to Dell for repair. They said this problem is cause by faulty RAM/ROM of my Dell Axim x50v. However when I run the "Diagnostic Tool" (Record+Power+Reset) there is no problem, all result pass!!!!

any solutions or suggestion?

please advice. I willing to try anything if there is posibility to recover my axim.

OK, after testing and browsing for solutions for few days, I think my Axim bootloader maybe somehow corrupted already.
It doesn't cause a full brick because I still can run the Diagnostic, SD Image Update, and it still able to boot but hang at the Dell logo.
However, the SD Image Update can't detect what my Axim bootloader is. Normally the SD Image Update will scan the bootloader and then show the image file which the prefix (DiMa, WM50, or DiAk) match with the bootloader.
I wonder is it any prefix which is compatible to all bootloader version, or anyway to reflash the bootloader, or any bootloader ipl which can run from the SD card?

Upgrade to WM6 fails ERROR [260]: CONNECTION

Hi everybody,
I'm stuck trying to upgrade my TyTn to WWE WM6 (HTC_TyTN_WWE_3.54.255.3_6275_1.48.00.10_108.exe).
After following all the steps of the upgrade wizard, the screen of the Tytn goes black and subsequently the ActiveSync connection is lost. After a while i then get the dreaded "ERROR [260]: CONNECTION".
I am running the original ROM (ROM 1.18.255.3) , and active sync 4.5 on Windows XP SP2. I downloaded the WM6 upgrade directly from HTC website after properly registering my device.
I even tried upgrading to SPL version is 2.10.olipro, but i still get the same behaviour.
[EDIT] Another thing i noticed is that when launching the upgrade executable, when it "veryfies informationj on my computer", if the TyTn is already connection via ActiveSync, it automatically resets into bootloader (4 colors window) and i am forced to perform a soft reset before re-trying the upgrade.
Could anybody help me out here?
Thx!
few people have seen this - no solution as yet.
Best workaround is to use the SD Card update method. No USB connection required.
todd_jg, could you please point me out to a procedure for upgrading to WM6 via SD card?
Thank you in advance.
dondobert
There is a description in the WIKI, just go HERE for instructions on how to flash from SD card.
Best wishes
I'm having the same exact problem....
I'll try the SD card method I guess. I'm suspecting it has something to do with how activesync recognizes my phone, because when I just sync normally it doesn't do it as well as previous phones, for example when I plug in the phone it wont auto recognize, I hafta manually start active sync on my computer before it starts.
this is because the usb port in the device is crap...it gets worn and then the cable gets lose....im having the same problem ,it is a nitemare...new usb cable sometime fixes the problem.i have tried 7 new cables the same happens. it gets so bad tha you will be unabled to charge the device,im afraid we got to send the device to htc for repair.
Still nothing...
Just tried for a few hours to perform the upgrade via SD card... but no way!
After reading various threads on the forum i think i tried every tweak and twist in order to have the upgrade via SD card method work (made sure the SD card is formatted as FAT32, not corrupted and with only the HERMING.nbh on it; tried also with SSPL-HERM.exe; etc.) but still no success at all.
Like other users i read of, after entering bootloader, my TyTn just sits there and the only way to proceed is to perform a soft reset.
Any idea?
Has anybody who has the USB upgrade problem been able to succesfully upgrade with the SD card method, or does there seem to be some kind of connection between the two failures?
Thx
@dondobert -
i assumed, you have already tried to uninstall and re-install ActiveSych 4.5 and recreate the synch profile.
OR
try this -
#1. on your phone device goto start-settings-connections-USB to PC
and set the tick mark to Enable advanced network.
#2. synch your device via ActiveSync
#3. do your upgrade OS or Radio
#4. once you are completed the install, undo #1.
Note 1: only do the above steps if you are having continously encountered the lost connectivity to ActiveSynch during the OS or Radio upgrade.
Note 2: your device must has either HardSPL Olipro method or SuperCID
The best way I have found to work around error 260 is
First disable Antivirus software
Next Go into Windows Firewall then exception tab, and search for "Windows Mobile-based Device Connectivity". Check it as an exception.
For the people who use Microsoft Live OneCare,
Go to "Change OneCare Settings" then go to the "Firewall" tab then click the "Firewall Connection Tool" . Make sure the Active Sync/Windows Mobile Device Center is checked on
Good luck
Let me know if this works

I had this problem, and managed to upgrade with my SD card just fine. In fact, my upgrade died and the device was stuck on bootloader mode.
The SD upgrade method is so reliable I may just do it now for every upgrade.
@dondobert -
on your reply post #8, you have mispelled on the HERMING.nbh file name. it should be HERMIMG.nbh
please verify the file name on your SD card, and rerun the SD procedure.
I had the same 260-error. Fixed:
- Did a "Clear Storage" (factory settings)
- Did all the "settings up your new device"-stuff.
- Did new active sync to computer (vista)
- Flashed just fine from original exe. (And i do have olipro SPL)
I have problem and resolved
Hi I have a same problem but, i just try to upgrade with mobile in boot mode and appears the error, but when connect normally mobile to pc and start upgrade error dissapear, and upgrade full, schap's spanish and radio 1.50 try this method cheers
Had the same problem and got it working
You need to set you TyTn in bootloader (4 color screen) mode and then connect it to the computer. then start loading the WM6 and you should be fine. I had done it using Schaps wm6 and it worked fine...
good luck.
Hi there ...
I had the same Prob with error 260 ...
- After i disabled the "USB-TO-PC" extendet function
- Reboot the PC
- Soft Reset my Vario II
ist works, but i don't know why
I hope it will work on yout decive to ... CU No.Trace !!!
Successful!!!
Thank you all for the great support!
For all of those out there still struggling with the problem, for me it finally worked following hellomotto's suggestion.
Regarding otoro_315 remark: yes, my mispelling int he post, file name on SD card was indeed HERMIMG.nbh.
Thank you all again!
Cheers
Had exactly the same problem. Resorted to SD upgrade - went very smoothly (Official Cingular WM6). However, will keep these suggestions in mind for the future.
I think the SD upgrade probably also eliminates some possible points of failure. According to wiki instructions, SD must be erased except for the img file - takes a bit to transfer 2G to/from SD. Don't know if this is a must - but didn't want to take a chance. Might just buy a cheapie SD just for upgrades.
One more for the SD card method. Extremely quick too ...I was really amazed that a 45MB ROM would flash in less than 5 minutes.
And it worked fine for me WITHOUT even formatting the SD Card first, I just pasted the extracted .nbh file to the root folder and loaded the SSPL file.
You mean the SD card was not erased and there were other files on it? (You don't say that explicitly).
I too was amazed at the speed - the wiki said it takes about 30 minutes - when it indicated complete in less than 10 min, I let it alone for about 15 min. because I thought it was going to do something else!

How to flash x50v from wm2003se GER to wm2003se ENG (SD loader method)?

Hello!
I've got this kind of problem: I would like to change the language in my Dell x50v, that has got a German wm2003se into English one. My final aim is to use English wm6, but I've read that first of all I should flash with the SD loader method that German ROM into English wm2003se. Does anyone has the proper files (e.g. the English wm2003se ROM?) and could someone tell me, how to do it step by step?
Thank You in advance.
If you want to upgrade to WM6 from your 2003 SE GER you don't need to change the language to english, install directly WM6. Take a look the first post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330748 there is how you can make this, you only need to install first the WM5 A02 bootloader and after that install the OS. You can get the OS in that post and for the WM5 A02 bootloader just made a search in that thread or in my profile, in my posts.
If you still need more help just ask me.
Regards
Thanks for the answer. I've downloaded WM5_A02_EN_X50v_Dell.rar found in one of Your posts and placed the four files on the SD card, as the instruction said. Unfortunately, no image rom was detected after SD Image Loader version was shown. My SD card was of course formated and empty, before I've copied that four files.

maybe this is due to the bootloader version. go to aximsite.com and look for some instructions. there are also guides how to flash and how to change a rom-language.
I've tried that methods from aximsite.com, but everything didn't help (cracked AximUpdate.exe didn't react with proper ROMs). But I did something quite stupid: I've tried to flash from SD with DiMa_B_A01_X50v_WM5_ENG.nb0 - SD loader found it and installed without problems, but after hard reset Dell don't react to anything, I cant hard reset or even turn it on, it seems to be bricked. Only the orange light is on when I connect Dell with the usb cable to the computer. Is there any chance to revive it, or it's totally bricked?

Good news, you're near to get it, as I said in many posts, if you've wm2003se the wm5 prefix must be called DiMa, when you've installed the bootloader and make the hard reset, the device cant boot, its normal. repeat the last step (wifi+power+reset) as you did when you installed the bootloader, but this time, put the wm6 image in the SD and install it.
Regards
Guys, You rock Not only I've managed to revive x50v, but I also changed language from German to English and, at the same time, flashed it with fast and stable WM6 ROM Thank You and thanks also to binmm, whose instruction I've followed. Noob's life is full of stress I've used before only HTC devices, where changing ROMs was very simple.

Help with Axim Upgrade to WM6

A couple of questions about upgrading to WM6 on my Axim. I am currently running 2003ce on my Axim, Vista on my computer.
Is the upgrade to WM5 done by the flash method on a SD card as described for WM6?
Can my current programs be restored from a backup or must they be reinstalled?
I'm rather a newbie at this, so thanks for the help so I don't turn my PDA into a brick.
You put the Rom onto a SD Card then go into the bootloader and install it. I dont think you can backup your programs unless you save the .cab's to another SD card or a CF card. Bricking doesnt mean that your Axim will never work again you just have to flash it back using the official rom. Only if the bootloader is tampered with will not work what so ever which shouldnt happen with most roms plus i made the silly mistake of trying to install WM6 on my X51 mid and it bricked but its working fine now after flashing back with the orginal rom.
The contents of the WM5 archive is very different from the WM6 archive. I'm guessing WM5 is applied differently than WM6. There are 3 exe files in the archive. Aximupdate.exe, Fullscreen.exe, and Enterbootloader.exe as well as other dll''s and img files.
If it applied through activesync, I may have a problem with vista. Vista would hang when I tried to update the 2003se Rom. I had to use my laptop which is running XP.
Any help with this is appreciated. I searched for this topic, but have not found anything.
Can someone tell me can i upgrade my axim x30 wit wm6?
Now i have wm 2003
Links download A12 (WM5) for X51 ?
Can anyone tell me how to use the WM5 archive to upgrade from 2003?
Thanks
Edit: I see that I dl'd a different image file than the one in this thread. The one in this thread contains the flash files for WM5. I think the only thing is I have to rename the bootloader files, from reading other messages in this thread.

Problem Halting my phone

Hi
I HardSPL my phone with Hard-SPL-V7 then I have update wm6.1 (OS+5.2.19209+(Build+19209.1.0.2+PV+DVH)+(B&C)+8MB+PP.rar) but
my phone is continuous halting after 5 to 6 hours as well as 1 to 2 days then after halting i have to hard rest the phone to run again. I have change many roms but the halting problem remains same.
Please anybody help me
Regards
you need to flash a stock windows mobile rom. the best seems to be the ATT rom.
Do this before you flash any rom and it is sure to fix your problems.
You are able to find the rom in the WIKI.
thanks for ur reply
i have download rom from wiki but not installing in my phone
actually i have imate jasjam radio version 1.07.03.10. problem is
when i install rom in my phone error occur the rom version problem or cable not connect.
note that i already install hard spl v7. ipl 2.01 olipro
what should i do. may i downgrade radio version before install wiki rom?
please help me
You could try flashing the ROM from the SD Card, I had the same problem and that worked for me. Instructions on how to do so in the wiki.
Thanks hamster, I have successfully install wiki ROM with following steps.
1 - Download wiki rom for my mobile
2 - Download Dutty's Good NBH Tool
3 - Extract .nbh file from wiki rom
4 - Create new .nbh file from Dutty's Good NBH tool
5 - Install new rom from RUUWrapper.exe.
Please tell me now what to do? am i install wm6.1 now?
ialwaywanted, you are using the wrong instructions... What you need to do is format an sd card fat 32. copy the .nbh file onto the sd card and rename it to "hermimg.nbh". Put the sd card back into you phone and go into bootloader(hold ok button above flywheel, power button and use stylus to soft reset. hold all three buttns in until you get to tri-colour screen). It should automatically detect the os upgrade and ask you to push power button to upgrade os. After it finishes soft reset and you will have successfully upgraded os with sd card. I find this safer than using the pc as ther will be no "accidents" with power, usb cable being yanked or resetting of the pc.
Hope this helps..... Cheers...
Yes i have successfully install rom in phone from SD card. Greart its working thanks a lot.
But my actual problem is when i install wm6.1 its stuck my phone on any screen then i hardrest the phone which cause all my installed progam and data was removed from phone.
Please suggest.
I seem to have success with Pdaviet 19900 and 19581. These were very stable for me when others weren't. You might need to experiment with different series of 6.1.
As for backing up everything on my phone, I use SPB backup. Please note however it is a commercial program. Also, you have to be restoring the backup on the same version and series of wm6.1 otherwise you will have problems.
It puts EVERY file back exactly as found so upgrading then running the restore is pointless. You have to find the right rom then backup. Make sure you back up regularly though or else you will find things missing. Cheers....

Help Upgrading blues

Hi all
I have been trying to get my hermes upgraded and got as far as upgrading the SPL etc even one new ROM but now every time I try to upgrade a new ROM the hermes syncs then tries to start the ROM upgrade and then reports a connection error - BUT it has already synched so it must be connecting fine
Please help I do so want some of these nice new toys
John
Go to bootloader. Check your SPL is 2.10 oli. If its not, go here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
page 116, post 1160 to install using the sd card method.
If it is you can use the sd card method and cut the PC out of the upgrade process. Its slightly different to flash roms using the sd card method, look below.
1. Format a 2Gb or less sd card FAT32. Copy the .nbh file of the rom you want on to it and rename hermimg.nbh.
2. Insert sd card and go to bootloader.
3 If all is right then follow the prompts otherwise check name of flash file and reformat sd card FAT32. Make sure its 2Gb or less.
Cheers...

You are a gem
Thanks so much
John
I just hope I haven't created a new flashing junkie like myself Everytime a new ROM comes out, I feel a compulsion to flash and test it, even if I don't think I'll keep it. And I've done it over and over and over again......
Hermes upgrade problems
Firstly my apologies for hijacking this thread and for the length of this posting but I am really stumped with upgrading my Hermes and I am really hoping that someone here will be able to point me in the right direction.
I have a T-Mobile MDA VARIO II (Hermes300) and about a year ago successfully upgraded the rom from WM5 to 6 (not the official one but an earlier version downloaded from someone on this site). I would now really like to try upgrading it to one of the 6.5 versions and I have been trying to do this for the past few days with absolutely no luck. The phone is working perfectly and I can sync with ActivSync 4.5 on an XP machine and also with WMDC on both a Vista PC and Windows 7 PC -luckily, working in IT I have quite a lot of kit about.
If I manually go into the bootloader screen it tells me I am running IPL-1.01 and SPL-1.04. From various postings on this site I have downloaded,
Hard-SPL-V7 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
Josh's WM6.5 Test v.8 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=461490
And also SSPL from somewhere but the filename is SSPL-HERM so I am assuming that this is the right version.
The procedures I have followed and results I have gotten are these.
Vista and W7 PC, connect the Hermes via USB, WMDC detects and installs the standard driver 'HTC USB Sync' Phone syncs contacts etc. successfully. Run the RUUWrapper utility from the Hard-SPL-v7 directory (running as administrator). All seems ok, it detects the current version and asks if I want to update. Hit Next button, it says it is Verifying the information on your Hermes... Please wait.... It then fails with a 260 error, but WMDC remains connected. The phone appears to do nothing.
Did a bit more research and discovered the trick of downgrading the drivers to the older XP version, did that and checked the properties of the HTC USB Sync driver and found that the date was 2004. Now WMDC will not connect at all, tried running the RUUWrapper utility, the phone repeatedly says 'Connecting to Host' but fails and eventually I get the same 260 error. At no time does the phone go into the bootloader or show any signs of doing anything else.
As an experiment, I tried first getting the phone into the bootloader and then trying with the same result. Reboot the phone and back to square one.
XP SP3 laptop, all .net framework components installed, Connected the phone, ActiveSync 4.5 (fresh download and install) connects fine and I can sync perfectly. Start the RUU utility, it goes through all the screens, gets to the Verifying the information on your Hermes... Please wait screen, then ActiveSync quits itself and the phone disconnects. The phone then tries to reconnect, which it manages once, then Activesync quits again, the phone disconnects and tries and fails to reconnect. If I try to manually restart Activesync it loads, fails to connect and quits again. Eventually RUU reports a 260 error and when I close it it throws up a .net framework error and doesn't properly clean up after itself. I have made sure that .net has been upgraded to 3.5 and nothing else produces errors. If I try to repeat this with the phone it bootloader mode, it fails with a 262 error while the phone itself is showing 0% upgrade image completed. I can soft reset the phone to get it back to working order.
Lastly I tried the direct upgrade from SD card method. Clean format a 128 Meg SD card as FAT32. Copied the RUU_signed.nbh file from the Hard-SPL-V7 directory onto it. Renamed the file to HERMIMG.nbh, inserted the card and restarted the phone into the bootloader. It seems to detect the image and starts to install but immediately displays a 00068002 message and hangs. Soft rebooting the phone brings it back to working order ok. Tried copying the SSPL-HERM file onto the internal phone memory and running it but it won't run saying that the file isn't signed properly or one of its components cannot be found.
So as to can see I'm completely stumped, unless there is something up with the phone itself although as I said I did manage to upgrade from WM5 to 6 some time ago. Am I just doing something really stupid here or is something odd going on? Any suggestions gratefully received.
Many thanks in advance.
John
Check post 1160, page 116 of this thread to install Hard SPL via sd card - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
You need a 2Gb or less sd card formated sd card.
Then to install the ROM check out my post 3 above yours.
Don't need the PC except to format the sd card and copy the .nbh file onto it.
Cheers...
Hi Ultramag
thanks for the quick reply but I have already tried this method and it just doesn't work. Just to be sure though, I re-downloaded all the components and gave it another go.
I have copied the file SSPL-HERM.exe to the internal phone memory, when I try to run it I get the error message The file SSPL-HERM cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found. I have installed this file using Activesync on an XP machine, WMDC on Vista and also using Missing Sync for Windows Mobile on my Mac with the same result. Does it matter where on the phone it is copied and run from as long as it is int he internal memory.
I have freshly formatted a SanDisk 128 Meg SD card with FAT32 and copied the nbh file from the HARD-SPL-v7 directory onto it and also renamed it to HERMIMG.nbh. If I insert this card and reboot the phone directly into the bootloader screen it shows the tri-colour screen, it briefy changes white and says loading, then shows the number 00068002 in red at the top of the screen then goes back to the tri-colour screen, which says that it is still running SPL-1.04.
I fully agree that doing upgrades this way is far more elegant than using a PC if only I could get it to work.
Is there anything else which needs to be done on the phone first before this method will work.
Many thanks
John
OK here's an update on this situation, what it needed was a hard-reset first. No reason I can think of why this should be so but as soon as I reset it, I was able to upgrade the bootloader via the SD card method the OS rom via an Windows XP PC.
I was hoping not to have to hard reset until I came to upgrade the rom as I wanted to be sure I had a list of all the software to reinstall first but whatever.
So for anyone else having upgrade issues, try a hard reset first.
John
Mate, its safer to use the SD card method to upgrade your os too. No chance of an accidental usb disconnection, reset or power outage.
I would suggest you try the sd card method to install the os next time as well. You don't need to run sspl.exe from the Hermes now as you have Hard SPL installed.
Cheers...
