i hope it is ok to post for help with the axim, i noticed others have so i figured i would, since i am getting desperate.
ok obviously i am a newb at this or i probably would not have this problem so please bear with me.
i downloaded the Dell_Axim_X50_X50v_wm2005_A01 99mb file and then went threw the install process. the first problem was that since i am using vista it does not seem to work with windows mobile center v6... when it tries to install i get bast the "update rom" and the warning to backup, then it verifies the device and cautions about clearing all the data, then when i click continue it freezes and my axim says "wait for usb to be ready...", then a few seconds later the installer says "ROMUpdateUTILITY MFC application has stopped working" and i have to close the program. I then have to hard reset my axim.
i then tried to flash the rom by putting the files on the sd card like it says in this forum but when i do that i get to the "SD Image A01 update" and then it says "no suitable image found" and then "image update failed, please try again"
I have tried it with both the following images that were in the zip cause i was not sure which one was the correct one.... niether one works.
AximX50_A_WM5_A01EN
AximX50_B_WM5_A01EN
is this a vista compatability issue? a mobile center v6.1 issue? or is it my stupidy?
any advice.
all i want to do is update from wm2003se to wm 5
ok must have been vista cause i went to a friends house and upgraded fine on xp
wm5 update roms
Where do I find such rom updates? apparently Dell disavows their existence.
and how can i tell which romset to use.. low or high..?
b
can someone who has this file Dell_Axim_X50_X50v_wm2005_A01.rar upload it somewhere else please???
Hello,
Recently I got Axim X50v, mostly used it with GPS but had constant problems with IGO freezing, so had to reboot it every few minutes which makes it almost useless. I've installed MS ActiveSync and updated 2003SE with official Dell update, but it didn't solve problems with igo. My friend told me to try upgrade from WM 2003SE to some recent version (like WM6).
I followed this thread in order to make upgrade to WM6, specifically this part:
Attention! If you have Windows Mobile 2003SE ROM on your device, FIRST, please download THIS ARCHIVE (RAR 32.4 MB), and update your PDA to A01 Windows Mobile 5 ROM.
After that, please download official WM5 A02 ROM and update your PDA to WM5 A02 ROM.

First update went just fine, but after doing 2nd one (WM5 A02) after hard reset I didn't get even blue dell boot logo, and it looks completely death. Is there anything that should be done which I missed?
Thanks in advance for your help
Pull the battery out for a few minutes and try booting it with the reset button.
Nope that didn't help, so I've decided to follow other steps from this tutorial (copying wm6 image files to sd card and restart), but pushing wireless+power+restart simple didn't work. Finally on some thread some guy mentioned you should keep on pushing restart button (while keeping power and wireless pushed of course), and after I pressed it like 10 times it finally came alive.
After it came alive again I followed procedure and upgrade to WM6 was smooth. Still haven't try IGO though, but WM6 so far works great
what to do with archive
I downloaded the "archive" that was mentioned for AO1 5. There are muliple files in the folder. How do I update to A01 5 from these files?
I decided to tell something about my experience today about these Error numbers while Upgrading my Hermes (T-Mobile MDA VARIO II) .
Dear friends….i read Upgrading instuguidances again and again but there is a gold issue I did not notice untill today.
whenever I put my PPC into Boot Loader Mode and connect it to PC to upgrading these Errors appear immediately and I was in trouble what those errors are.
It checked the cable or some different Official ROMs but in fact I noticed all growth from Windows.
Yeah…
I am in winder why Microsoft does not make it possible upgrading PPC over Windows XPSP3 !!!
Whenever I run RUUWarpper on Windows XP Service Pack 3 these errors shown while I was sure about correct cable and correct ROM and ….
Sooo I want to share it to all peoples this gold notice :
Upgrading PPC is just possible on Windows XP Service Pack 2.
not Windows XPSP3 nor Windows Vista.
I think it is good for someone else that search and find these Topic in database of this nice/great Forum if same problem has appeared to him.
Here is some pictures of those errors & some proof if is required.
Mate, there has been a heap of threads on how to upgrade with Vista. It Works.
I have, on occasion, upgraded my Hermes on Win XP SP3 successfully. If it doesn't work for you, try the sd card method, you have to install Hard SPL V7 first, I tend to use this method more as it seems safer to me... Especially for the radio rom.
All you need to do is search and you should find the answers you seek...
Cheers...
So really can you Upgrade your Hermes on Win XP SP3 successfully?
you mentioned some keywords but could you please show me those links exactly how to upgrade our Hermes on XP SP3 too?
I think this forum is so noisy i can not find it myself.
I really need Upgrade HERM300 (T-Mobile MDA Vario II) on XP SP3 on my Laptop.
its boot loader shows IPL-1.04 & SPL-2.10.olipro
is it enough or not?
about 1 hours after reading your post I tried again upgrading on XP SP3 and put it on Boot Loader but nothing. (above Errors had shown again and again)
i would be appreciate if you show us that useful links (upgrading over XP SP3 normaly like XP SP2 successfuly)
Mate, as you have Hard SPL installed (SPL 2.10) try this instead...
1. Format a 2Gb or less sd card FAT32. Copy the .nbh file of the rom you want onto it and rename to "hermimg.nbh".
2. Put sd card into Hermes and reset to bootloader - power, OK and reset with stylus.
3. When prompted hit the power button to flash new rom.
Just make sure you have 50% or more battery though.
I find this method the easiest way of flashing roms as there is no real involvement of the PC except to format sd card and copy the .nbh file across. You'll get no sync errors, have no worries about resets/blackouts ar the usb cable being pulled. About the only ways to stuff this up is to reset in the middle of a flash or to have a flat battery.
Cheers...

Yes you can upgrade it in XP SP3. Do you have .net installed in the pc? If you dont, then you will be getting errors too.

I am sure.

dear friends ,Thanks for your communion.
What you experienced was what I just did went thru
Had the same thoughts with the problem, I get Error [264], I also thought the CID-unlock issue. Tried many ways to get thru but fail in the end. Well yea, your piece of notes enlighten me. I will try on XP SP 2 and below, gotta find the machine some where first

dear ferioz...
after those days passed what about your siuation?
has your problem solved using Windows XP Service Pack 2 ?
did you find any System running XP SP2 and try upgrading your PPC ?
If you have trouble with the pc, try the SD card method. Easier and I believe safer too as no-one accidently resets the pc in the middle of a flash. This method is a MUST when upgrading Radio ROMs...
For the PC though, you might need to update your .net framework to 3.5.
Cheers...
dear ultramag69...
You recommened this safely nice upgrading method and wrote a how to on this post and I love it and thank for suggest it.
I did not have enough time to upgrade and change my Hermes ROM recently from December 2008 so I did not try this method still cause PPC will go to Factory Default settings and programms installed will be ununstalled and I hate installing again and again.
anyway...
so Thanks for your nice answer and remind.
I suggest others try this method too instead of using PC running XPSP 2 specially this days mostly use Vista running Windows Mobile Device Center instead of XP running ActivSync.
So i have tried everywhere to find this answer but have come to the point where i finally need to ask.
I have a Dell Axmin x50v running WM 2003 SE A5. I have downloaded the Dell_Axim_x50v_A01_ROM.rar and extracted it.
I run the AximUpdate and it runs, copies the image to the device. AximUpdate then tells me to perform a hard reset, cancel activesync when prompted to create a relationship, and return to the update utility to continue.
The problem i am having is that the update never continues after this point. I've tried everything i can think of. The axim is still working fine but i can't seem to get this thing upgraded.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Yes I know the Axim is really old but I never found a PDA I liked better. I am trying to update my wm2003 A03 rom to A05 so I can then update to WM5 A01 and then Wm6.0 on my Axim x50v. For some reason when I try to use the official utility that I download from dells website to update to the A05 rom I am having a problem. I connect to active sync 4.5 on a computer with win xp sp3 using my cradle and usb. Then I run the utility but the minute it starts to update (says 0%) I hear a noise, and then my x50v resets automatically and then the dell utility has an error message. I tried this on a another computer also running same operating system and got same error. Does anyone know how to fix this? I have searched an nod not found and answer.
Understand I still have A03 so the wifi+power+reset won't even allow me to get into the bootloader, because I think the A03 rom had a different type of loader than A05.
Thanks
