Email, yes. I'm not so sure about IE (I'd use Opera Mini if I was you anyway):
#####################################################################
# How to store your Outlook email/attachments onto your Storage Card:
#####################################################################
Use something like Resco Registry editor:
Navigate to: HKLM > system > Inbox > Settings
click values
menu > new > string value
you are going to create 2 new values here:
value name: PropertyPath
value data: \Storage Card\Mail
value name: AttachPath
value data: \Storage Card\Mail\Attachments
Reset you phone and you should only have the Mail folder along with the attachments folder in mail folder on your storage card.
I then moved, with file explorer, all *.att to attachment folder and all *.mpb to Mail folder from \Windows\Messaging to \Storage Card\Mail.

of you run the 6.1 rom go to settings > IE Settings > Temporary File Paths.
if you arent running 6.1 you can probably search this forum and find the registry path that needs to be changed. you can also do it pretty easily through sktools if you have it.

Download, this.
This will solve all of your problems as far as the ie cache and email is concerned.

Install this, it will send your files to your storage card. That's it, that easy!!

SD storage : MOVE My documents ?

Hello,
I've bought a storage SD card.
I wish to move the "My documents" folder to this card.
I 've created a "My documents" folder on the SD card, and moved the files BUT the new folder does not replace the original one, and exploring My Pocket PC/My documents leads me to the empty old folder.
Is there a way to improve ?
More generally, what's the best practices when equiped with a SD Card ?
Thanks,
Jean-Jacques
You can create a shortcut on the root of your device's memory ( \ ) and make that shortcut point to "\Storage card\My Documents"
Most programs require you to point the path to your SD card yourself under options. i.e. Notes, you'll need to choose Tools>Options and pick "save to storage card". And in your storage card, make sure there's no file with name like ignore_my_doc or similar, or it will save to your SD's root instead of your 'my documents' folder.
How do you create the shortcut on \ to point to the storage card?
I have moved my documents to the storage card, but I still have an empty my documents on the \ .
Can't seem to figure out how to create the shortcut link.
In Notes, I have set it under options to point to the SD card.
Use Resco Explorer or Total Commander to create the shortcut.
Total Commander is great & its free. Get it from here (http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm)
Turns out I had Total Commander and just didn't know how to make a shortcut. Figured that out.
Now I have a file My Documents.lnk in \, and a My Documents on \ that is empty (I delete it and reboot and it keeps coming back), and a file called Old My Documents in \ that only has a dir called Templates in it. I can't delete the Old dir or the Template dir, no matter how I try. (I had renamed the orignal My Documents to Old My Documents after copying the folder to the storage card).
Is this making sense? Thanks for your help.
Using Total Commander, click on the folder you want to create the shortcut for, then from the File menu, choose >>>>> then Create shortcut.. It will ask you for the destination location of the shortcut. Click ok.
I really don't know what's that Old My Documents folder.
Anyone knows a solution for this plz ?
Maybe you need a registry hack.
Thanks, I did figure out how to make the shortcut, but I just can't get rid of the old docs directory and it keeps creating a new my docs dir at \.
And although there is a shortcut in \ to \Storage Card\My Documents, the Notes don't sync with the SD card.
I have changed the option in Notes to look at \Storage Card\My Documents
Very Weird.
The built-in notes program is very dummy!
I stopped using it; because I found a much better one : PhatPad
By the way, storing notes on the storage card is really risky!
Did you hear about the well know SD card wipe problem?
It happens to a lot of people here in this forum..!
I had experienced that SD issue...but it was always backed up so it was just a pain in the arse. Once I upgraded to 2003SE, knock on my wooden head, it hasn't happened again.
I'll try the subsitute program. Thanks...this is all very strange.
PhatPad is really the best notes program ever 8)
Same Question
* bump *
Sorry about that...but I would also like to move My Documents...I'd like to put mine in 'Storage' (the built in Storage on the BA)
I've tried exporting the reg and replacing \My Documents with \Storage\My Documents...and then reimporting.
Some things now save in \Storage\My Documents...but...
* I can't get rid of the templates folder
* My Documents keeps comming back!
I have moved My Documents to the SD card.
I made the registry change pointing it to the SD card as well.
But I still get the My Documents dir coming back to the Main Memory every reset.
After reading more on this, and seeing the risks involved, I am now rethinking whether moving the docs to the storage card is such a good idea.
Malicious Microsoft?
Given the ability of some people to easily hack our computers, the only safe way of having documents on our PCs would be to create them on removeable media while off-line and remove it before going on-line again. Does Microsoft have a vested interest in making it so hard for users to do this and so easy for people to hack its products?
It is not rocket science (or even computer science) to request insertion of a "Documents" SD card if not present. It could also optionally automatically eject the SD card when all files on it were closed.

Word docs default save place

Does anyone know how to force Pocket Word to save new docs into \Storage Card\My Documents folder?
I can make Word save the files in Storage Cards using Options, but only in root folder, although there is a 'My Documents' folder created in the card.
Quite interestingly
1. I resolved it with Excel (since it has a registry key for 'save to' folder), but I cannot with Word and Notes (because they have'nt -- or I cannot find)
2. My previous PDA (Magician) did it without any problem.
Thank in advance for the solution or any hint.
ctibor
Perhaps this will do:
Go to menu/file/save as
Then:
name, map, type, location (main memory or storagecard)
The map can be selected.
psldev
Yes, thanks, I know I can save the file everywhere I want. The question is about the DEFAULT save folder.
In case of Pocket Word (and Excel and Notes) the default folder is '\My Documents'. If you choose in Options Storage Card, the default folder changes to the ROOT folder of the card. But I would like to have '\Storage Card\My documents' as the defauld save folder.
Am I clear now?
Changing the default folder for saving Notes
I'm having this exact problem with the Notes program, and I found a registry entry that SHOULD fix it, but it doesn't.
When I select the option in the Notes program in WM 6.1 on my Touch to save files to my storage card, it saves them in the root folder of the storage card, which I definitely don't want. I want it to save by default in the My Documents folder on the storage card. What's strange is that the list of files that Notes shows when I open it up includes files saved in the \Storage Card\My Documents folder, I just can't get it to save there by default. So, I poked around in the registry and found the following key:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Notes\FileDest which was set to \Storage Card. I changed that to \Storage Card\My Documents and that should have done the trick. Unfortunately, that didn't work, even after a restart. Notes continues to save new files in the root directory of the storage card. In fact, it appears that the registry entry changed back to the root folder after the restart.
Anybody know why this registry change isn't doing what you would expect it to do, or how to get the change to stick through a restart?

For myself, I solved this issue the following way:
When you open the Notes program, in the upper left corner you'll see a drop-down menu to select different folders. Choose the folder you want (I chose /My Documents/Notes), and that's it! After choosing it, all the new notes that you make are saved in that folder.

WM6 Registry Hacks (Different to WM5)

Hi guys,
I've been scouring the net and these forums for about 3 days trying to find the registry hack to change the default location of the 'My Documents' folder to my storage card as the reg key normally used (as per the wiki) under WM5 doesnt exist. I also want to do the same with the default ringtone location, changing it to 'My Ringtones' located in the 'My Documents' folder instead of '/windows/rings'.
Maybe we could use this thread to post known WM6 reg hacks that are different to the method used for WM5 which could be of some use to members, including myself, and hoping I get the answer to the ones I mentioned above,
Feel free to add reg hack queries, and any hacks you know of that are WM6 specific.
Enjoy your day,
Neil.
Nobody?
I noticed the same a while back, but since WM6 is not technically even out there, and if it is in very little numbers. Us here included, it might take a little while before we start seeing a load of hacks.

Has anyone found a solution for this yet. My Documents sync path to Storage card
Why don't you just try creating the registry key referenced for WM5? If it doesn't work, you can always delete it...
Guys,
just creating the keys work like a charm
TyTn with black 2.0 was used to test.
Doesn't work for me
I tried creating the hacks as per this thread:

But it doesn't work for me - anyone have any ideas?
Found a way to move My Documents ... BUT ...

Change the location of My Documents to the SD Card.
This one is complicated but possible. I had to play around with this one for a while trying and failing with several methods, succeeding with this one. The order in which you do this is essential.
Please ensure that your SD card and My Documents are backed up. It is recommended that you do this on a fresh install of your ROM. This cleared out my “My Documents” folder but I was able to restore it.
1. Reset your device
2. Synchronise your device with your PC
3. Navigate to
“HKLM\System\StorageManager\Profiles\SDMemory“
4. Change the “Folder” key to “My Documents”
5. Rename your original “My Documents” folder to “My Docs”. This is a crucial step, but it does not matter what you name it.
6. Power off and reset your device.
7. Sync your Device
You should see in “File Explorer that your “My Documents” folder has an SD card icon next to it.
Copy your files back into your My Documents.

Only problem with doing this on an already set up system is that if you have anything installed to your Storage Card, then all the links become invalid - you can resolve this by using Resco Explorer / Total Commander to reset all of the links.
Haven't tried to install any apps after doing this, would be interested in hearing if it still installs there like normal - decided to reset the name to Storage Card, rather than have to remake 200+ links to all the apps / games that are on there - think I'll wait until I remake the system next time!

Update
Worth doing ... but only on a new install
Backed up my system, then had a go at this - spent an hour in front of the telly changing all the links over to the new addresses, etc.
All seems to work, but a load of little bugs started to occur - all related to where certain software is located, and files that have been installed, and where, etc.
No issues related to the system in general, but I think this method would be best used if you are doing a brand new install - don't even install the EXTROM before you do it and you'll have no problems at all, and no more issuses with the build up of crap on your system. Just don't think it's feasible on an existing build, to many hidden links and file misplacements can occur.
Still - if you backup first, it's worth a try!

Sorry for digging this up but... will this workaround let you sync with the 'my documents' on the storage card? I'm trying to get this to work but numerous threads say that wm6 can only sync to the my documents on the phone memory.
It can just manage its own my documents. Not the My Documents folder of M$ Windows. So what ever you want to add or update do it there as well.
When you will select the settings for Sync, select files and it will make a shortcut on your desktop for the folder of my documents of your device that is available on your PC also.
I found a simple solution on the net
I found this simple solution on the net:
1. Create a subfolder called "My Documents" in your Storage Card folder.
2. Copy the contents of \My Documents to \Storage Card\My Documents
3. Delete \My Documents
4. Open a text editor and paste the following text into a new document: 33#"\Storage Card\My Documents"
5. Save this as "My Documents.lnk"
6. Copy this to the root of your WM6 device

Relocation of Pocket IE cache to storage card

I am running the LVSW 3.30.2.1 version of WM6. The hack for WM5 in the wiki (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...ermes_Registry) does not work in this version. Does anyone know how to relocate the IE cache to a storage card in WM6?
Thanks!
try sktools or pocketmechenic. it works for universal running wm6
This hack from http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Registry (1/2 way down the page) does work for Hermes variants on WM5/WM6 such as Cingular/The New AT&T/AT&T 8525 (my backup phone) and Softbank X01HT (my primary phone) (I made a registry entry for it but of course, I use my login name such as \Storage Card\LoginName\Profiles\Temporary Internet Files, etc).:
PocketIE Cache in storage card
Create these folders:
\Storage Card\Pocket IE\Temporary Internet Files
\Storage Card\Pocket IE\Cookies
\Storage Card\Pocket IE\History
Add the following registry keys, string data type:
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders]
"Cache"="\Storage Card\Pocket IE\Temporary Internet Files"
"Cookies"="\Storage Card\Pocket IE\Cookies"
"History"="\Storage Card\Pocket IE\History"
You then would need to do soft-reset to get the new folders to work.

PIE on Storage Card
Custel's WM6 has HTCustom (and other's like Pimp My Black) have options to change the location of PIE cache to the MicroSD card.
Just run HTCustom
Select the Pocket IE tab
and choose SD Card (or Main Memory)
Save will SoftReset your device
Be careful with the D-Pad option on the same screen. Some people don't like the way that changes the behavior of PIE as well as message reading.

Thanks, crazynut. The trick is in the registry string. This ROM includes reg strings as in the wiki and your reply, with the default path "\windows\Profiles\guest\*" I verified that that is the location where the cache files were stored and then tried changing that to "storage card\Profiles\guest\*" and modifying folder names on the storage card to match followed with a soft reboot. It didn't work, either. Could you spell out what you did in more detail?

N00b download one of the tweak tools either pimp my black V2.0 or Htcusom 1.4 and it will set the reg for you and your done.... no reg hacks no nothing just some clicking on the screen...
It works as in the wiki. I am not sure what Registry Editor you are using. You should be able to use Total Commander or a similiar product. I think a lot of people like PHM Registry Editor. I use Kilmist Registry Editor since I got my company to pay for it.
That being said, AustinSync said in another post that you can use one of the tweaking tools to click the location to the storage card (my experiencde with doing that tells me that they just do not let you choose which folder on the storage card).
Good luck.

How to change camera folder in WM6?

Hi there,Evertime I take a picture, my hermes always save the picture to
\Storage Card\My Doctments\
If I would like to specified the destination folder to
\Storage Card\My Doctments\My Pictures
What should I do?
I edited my registry settings under
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\Camera\image\SaveFolder_0804
or
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\Camera\image\P1\SaveFolder
but it was no use.
I'm not having that issue. My pics are saved to Storage Card/My Documents/My Pictures with no problem. That's weird.
hmm, interresting, never had this before... try remove card from phone, run camera application, insert card and wait for message window with yes/no choice - uif you want to save your newly taken images to card insted of phone memory. Before that remove My Documents folder on card. Hope it help.

anyone help?
bumpety-bump
I had something like that here. It says if i want to save do storage card, but it still saves in the main memory. I just can't save to storage card, even if i say "yes" to the option "save in the memory card". Any answer for it?
This worked for me;
Hi, I had almost the same problem as described.
This is how i solved my issue:
1. Download MyMobiler (w/ MExplorer.exe) to do this a lot easier with touch mobiles.
2. Download Advanced Configuration Tool v.3.3 to change the directing folder to DCIM (default), just to be sure...
3. Download PHM RegEdit to tweak Windows Mobile Registry.
4. Use Advanced Configuration Tool v.3.3. Go to the Camera section and change "Save location:" to "DCIM (default)". It might already be correct. But just to make sure it is not wrong set.
5. Use PHM RegEdit to change all the "SaveFolder"-keys under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Camera\...
The following Registry folders contain save paths:
Image, P1, P2, P3, P4, P5, P6, P7, P8, P9, P10, Video
The "Image" folder contains two keys with languagecodes. The codes are in hexadecimal.
GpsSaveFolder_<languagecode> (languagecode = 0809 hex for English UK)
SaveFolder_<languagecode>
In all the keys you should change the value to your preferred destination. For instance this value was my choice:
\Storage Card\DCIM\100MEDIA\
Remember the backslashes! With MyMobiler it is easy to copy and paste the value fast and simple throughout the Registry keys... In case you are not sure which folderpath you should use. Use the MExplorer.exe that followed the MYMobiler app. On the right-pane you can browse the mobile just how it looks like for Windows Mobile OS. Theres no drive destinations...
Local memory could be like:
\My Documents\DCIM\100MEDIA\
6. Now for the keydifference that did the trick; Softreset your phone. When WM is up and running, take out the memorycard and start Camera app. Insert memorycard again. You might have to do it a couple of times before it works. But it worked for me in the end. Thanks to all tips and tricks!
/Finally a happy owner of a HTC HD2 WM 6.5
/Soon working with the Android ported version
