I have no problem to connect to the internet (to update weather, news etc) when I connect my P3300 to my desktop (which connect to the internet through a hardwire modem and a hardwire router). When I connect the P3300 to my laptop (the laptop is connect to internet through the WIFI rounter), I then cannot update those weather or news in my P3300. What setup do I need to change in the P3300 in order to be able to get to the internet through the laptop's WIFI connection? Thank you for any help.
Should happen automatically if you have a standing ActiveSync connection. No special settings needed. On the other hand - Check your firewall. Maybe some soft on the laptop is preventing your PDA from getting access to the internet!
Thanks Theonly1....one other thing though, I am using Vista ultimate x32....
not tried this yet but....just plug in and it will recognise the phone as a modem or GSM connection for internet surfing on the laptop?
Thanks again
Thanks for the feedback
Hi,
Thanks for the feedback. I have try to disable the firewall, but it still cannot connect to the internet. By the way, the laptop us window XT. If I enable the WIFI on the P3300, then it can connect to the internet by it's own WIFI. But if I disable it's own WIFI, then it did not connect to the internet throught the laptop's WIFI connection. I think there must be some setting in the network connection, so that it will be able to use the laptops WIFI and get information through it. But I do not know how. Any help is appreciated. Thanks again
Dear All
I cannot find the original CD, therefore I cannot install the modem drivers onto my WinXP laptop. The modem drivers are necessary to use my PDA (Orange SPV 3100 - Hermes 100) to connect to Internet via UMTS - HSDPA
Can somebody help me by emailing these drivers ([email protected]) or posting here or attaching somewhere on Internet?
Thanks a lot
Saulo
I was told that modem drivers are the same for different brands, I mean Orange SPV M3100, or HTC TyTN / XDA trion / MDA Vario II / VPA Compact III / Dopod CHT 9000 / Dopod 838 Pro
Thanks and please help

You shouldn't need modem drivers if using a WM6 rom. Am I understanding the problem? The Internet sharing app uses a virtual network driver that works much better than the old modem drivers. And if you aren't using WM6, upgrade to it. The Internet sharing piece alone is worth the trouble.
I belief installing Activesync 4.5 should be sufficient.
Dear All
On PDA side I have an Orange SPV M3100 (Hermes 100) with WM 2006 Professional: CE OS 5.2.1413 build 17741.0.2.1
I am not sure whether this is a cooked rom or shipped one. I am inclined to believe it is a cooker WM06 rom
On laptop side I have
- ActiveSync 4.5.0 build 5096: it works greatly
- winXP SP2
Now my question is: WinXP does not see my Hermes as a 3G UMTS or HSDPA modem. Therefore I am unable to use my Hermes to connect to Internet.
My APN is set correctly, on the Hermes side: I called my UMTS-HSDPA operator and set my device accordingly. But the 3G operator also told me to contact HTC or Orange to download the modem driver to make it accessible by my laptop. ActiveSync 4.5 alone does not suffice, since it is only for sync purposes. In other word currently:
- If my laptop is already connected to Internet (e.g. via LAN or WiFi) then my Hermes can ALSO connect to Internet, via ActiveSync 4.5
- Viceversa, if my Hermes establishes a 3G connection, or GPRS connection, my laptop CANNOT use it to access internet.
If you know how to solve this problem I would greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Saulo
i have winxp pro with AS 4.5 ... and all i have to do is turn on internet sharing on my phone, plug in the cable and im done.. the computer will automatically recognize the phone as a network connection.. and i have tried this on a computer without AS and the computer wouldnt recognize the phone, so it appears that activesync is necessary for sharing (it doesnt sync with internet sharing on, but i believe AS has the drivers that are needed)
By the way I have 2 Italian GSM-UMTS-HSDPA operators: Vodafone and Tim
I have tried. I have set correctly their APN settings: (for tim is ibox.tim.it)
While on Hermes side everything seems fine, (for example Pocket Internet Explorer can open web pages) my laptop cannot use Hermes to access internet, even if ActiveSync connections is established and working (hermes synchronized)
Please help
On Phone goto:
Start ~> Programs ~> Internet Sharing
you should have no problems.

on laptop clik activesync icon in the bar and from "setting connections" disable "allow uSB connection"
then do on ppc what Custel abowe wrote
Thanks to all of you!
Following your suggestions now I can connect using my USB link, between Hermes 100 and my laptop, running WinXP.
I did it by first upgrading to Schap WM06 3.3c
Then making the few steps outlined above
My next question is: was anyone succesfull in using Bluetooth, instead of USB link?
I mean, is it possible to access Internet, via Hermes 100 3G-UMTS-HSDPA connection, by connecting laptop and Hermes via Bluetooth?
Thanks again

By the way I noticed that if you use activesync USB link (you do not need to disable USB connection!) that what happens is:
- if you browse internet in your laptop by using Hermes 100 as a UMTS/HSDPA modem the syncing between laptop and Hermes goes down, stops: the device works as a modem but any synchronization stops working. In other words you cannot perform any synchronization (via activesync) or any other operation, like file transfer, while using activesync as a usb-type-link between laptop and Hermes.
Am I right?
Why is that? I mean why cannot I sync my device (or transfer files) and at the same time use my hermes as a 3g-modem for my laptop?
Thanks
Saulo
any clue why this happens? I mean why you cannot sync and browse internet at the same time?
After connecting to the internet via internet sharing, I re-enabled "Allow USB connections" in AS4.5 nut it still wouldn't sync. I guess at the moment we have to be contented with internet sharing w/o being able to sync Hermes and our computer.
A bit OT but has anyone successfully connected to the internet via internet sharing in Vista?
Yes
Yes I have been using Internet Sharing with windows vista successfully. Once it connects there are no problems BUT it doesn always readily connect and often requires a software reset .
I have WM6 Schap's 3.57 on my hermes 300. The internet sharing works great but when I've disconnected my GSM connection while I'm connected to a Wi-Fi network and I try to use "Internet Sharing" I get the message on my phone: "Cannot connect. Ensure that your phone is correctly configured, service is available, and that flight mode is turned off before trying again."
Probably WM thinks I'm in flight mode altough Wi-Fi is connected.
Is there a way around this?
How can you tell if the phone is using the WiFi connection instead of HSPDA/GPRS/EDGE? (Roaming is a bit expensive)
The USB-modem driver worked with WM5. When I start the "Modem Link" program, windows says it found new hardware. I've installed the driver I used with WM5. I tried using it by calling *99# but it didln't work. Should I call a different number with WM6?
Anyone the same problems and/or solutions?
It does work great indeed.. Internet connection sharing..
Except.. when you want to connect to a VPN.
I never had issues with using WM5/Black as modem. But now.. in the HTC Wm6 (official one) only Internet Sharing is left.
Does anyone have a solution for the VPN connection?
Thanks all!

I have successfully connected to the interrnet via the blutetooth connection.
In your Hermes, select "Bluetooth PAN' instead of USB under the "Internet Sharing" "PC Connection".
In your PC, click on the "Join a Persoonal Area Network" under the bluetooth option and slect your device and you are done.
PS: Your device must be paired first.
I've had the same issue when connecting to my companies VPN, I had to connect to the Tytn via Internet Sharing via Bluetooth to use the VPN.

I am trying to access the internet from my laptop using my O2 PDA as the modem with no success. I can access the internet on the phone OK. I link the phone to the laptop using the usb cable but I'm unable to access the internet.
I am running Vista Home Premium and Windows mobile 6.
Any suggestions?
Hi,
Enable Internet Connection Sharing option found in the Setting of the Mobile. This is a add on from WM 6 onwards.
/Raj
Whre abouts exactly. I have looked through the settings and can't find it
Start>Settings>Connections Tab>Internet Sharing.
Should be there
I purchased a laptop today and DID NOT install active sync on it...when i attempt to tether it with my touch pro2, the internet connection breaks after about 2 mins constantly...im using the internet sharing app to connect...
what can i do to get a longer lasting connection...do i need to install active sync on the laptop??? little help...???
Thanks
Do you have the stock Tmo USA rom on your phone? Or, have you done any major tweaks, etc., that might have messed with some connection setting?
Are you using a T-Mobile "smartphone" data plan and is the data connection APN set to epc.tmobile.com (or internet2.voicestream.com)?
Why not install Activesync (or Windows Mobile Device Center if you're using a Vista or W7)? Is your laptop a Mac?
If not a Mac, then yes, install Activesync or WMDC. That's the standard way for a Windows Mobile device to connect to a Windows PC.
It does seem strange that you can connect for a brief time, then lose it -- seems like it would either work or not...??
THANKS FOR THE REPLY...!!!
yes i have the stock rom...havent done any major changes other than install sbp mobile shell...my apn is epc.tmobile.com...i am using a pc with vista...
I found the solution...!!! In the internet sharing app, my default network connection was "T-Mobile Internet". Once I switched it to "T-Mobile Data", I got a constant connection...Surfed the net for over 3hrs last night....!!! Thank God for HTC, WM & bittorrent

Google for an app called "Connectify". That should work. I don't know how far it supports Windows XP (The page says it does support XP, but for Ad Hoc mode only), but I guess it shouldn't hurt to give it a try.
