I'm having a problem, when I send a text to someone and they reply, their message goes above my message instead of below.my message. So instead of in order like my message and then theirs and then mine and then theirs stand and etc i have to keep scrolling above all my messages to read theirs, and the time on text says like 6pm when it is 10pm . i dont know whats wrong i just bought it 2 days ago and have problems with it

Can I suggest that you solve this the simplest way -- which is by using one of the highest recommended APPS out there? Handcent SMS --- It gives you complete and total customization control over every aspect of the interface of both the text entry/ conversation space -- as well as the list of conversations -- including:
control over the issue you want: inverted order
But also: background color (or image), sender text bubble color background, sender font type, font color, font size; receiver text bubble background, font type, color, size -- and DATE font, color, size, as well as spacing between items.
As well as overall theme/skin --- such as "HTC HERO" style or IPHONE style or ANDROID style or HANDCENT style or custom.
And all of the above font and color controls are settable for the CONVERSATION LIST as well...
Hope that helps. I actually don't know if the native app or HTC app has that inverted flow control or not.
First thing to check is your time/timezone. If it's wrong, the phone will think you sent the message later than the reply and put the reply before your outgoing text.
I had this myself so I know it can happen.
the time and time zone is correct i checked . its wierd cuz in normal phones messages goes down and on my desire i have to scroll up to see it
I have a same problem here, but not for all messages. Only for those coming from specific network(s). I think the problem is in their SMS server time settings. It's annoying sometimes, but I can live with it ...
When someone sends me a message from my provider, it's all fine...
EDIT: There's some fix here on XDA for those from USA (if that's the case). Try searching the forums...

Its really because HTC have coded their messaging app to read the time-stamp of the SMS. The time-stamp that was assigned by the server that it came from, which could be hours different from your time. Its been a known problem since the beginning of sense UI back on WinMo! Most other phones/apps just use the phones time as a time-stamp. When the message comes in, its stamped with whatever time is currently on your phone.
Take quicksites recommendation and get Hancent, its an awesome messaging app.

MissedIt (at least in the latest version 1.4.0) works with all email clients which support notification, e.g K9.
Every app that uses notifications can be displayed (now).

I use the widget "SMS Unread Count", the thing for calls, mails and sms. works perfectly, but also miss the notification for gtalk...
when dragging the widget to homescreen, you'll have the possibility to change the icon, to give them a title... decide which "notification" size to choose–there are two options, small and large. zero's could also be displayed by choice.
a app called "missed it!" is what you looking for

Not that it only kills your battery but it severely speeds up the degradation on the screen even if its just black. A lit screen will degrade faster than a totally off screen.
Thanks brendo.
I assume this could be done for Facebook and Twitter???
yeah, anything with a notification (a number that dispays on the icon). ive seen it done with facebook, wish i could do it with ebay

[Q] Developer request.....

I was a Inc 1 user and asked a few times for this but it was like no one understood what i was asking for. i was wondering if its possible or if a developer would take the challenge of altering the stock sms/mms apk so that a preview of the message doesnt show up in the notification bar. I know Go SMS and Handcent have the option of showing "new message recieved" instead of showing the text contents in a privacy setting but i would like to keep the stock messaging app. puhlease someone. it would be greatly appreciated....

not so sure what u mean, or if it's possible, why not try handcent or go sms? I know u want stock, but may be the only way,
If you go under Settings>Privacy, it gives you 1 or 2 options. I'm not so sure since I'm using newtoroot's Sense 3.5 ROM and that may or may not be different from what you're using. (yes, I'm advertising a Rom, and yes, you should totally go for this rom.)
Handcent SMS does this. You can disable the preview per contact or just in general. You would disable the notifications in your normal SMS app and then set it so that Handcent is the only app that does notifications for SMS and if you disable the preview feature, it will just say "XXX-XXX-XXXX text you" or something like that
I've used handcent and am currently go sms. Was just curious if there was a way to do it for the stock. Guess it cant be done.

GO SMS Issue

Anyone else's GO SMS not showing the sender's name for text messages, just the #? No issues until ICS.
To add to that ive got a gosms notification in my top bar to say ive got a new message. I can see the first few words of the message but when i click on it i cant see the text (i just get the text box to reply) and it doesnt exist in the stock sms app either.
I have this problem as well, also custom themes do not work at all. I've abandoned gosms for handcent for now at least. It's too bad the ICS theme for gosms looks so great too!
i have this aswell, i thought it was just me. Hopefully it will be updated soon.
Yeah - I had the same problem. I've switched to stock Messaging app and SMS Popup out of necessity, but now that I know Handcent works I might try that.
Newbie question, but what advantages do 3rd party SMS apps over the stock app.

Different themes, pop-up notifications with the ability to reply, just far more control in general.

Think iPhone vs. Android in terms of the amount of control one has.

The big feature is SMS pop up - it's super nice. SMS pop up doesn't remove the text from the notification bar, but it does mark it read, which is annoying. Handcent works alright.

Hi,
Same issue here (French, 4.0.1).
Also sometimes having unkown failure trying to send mail, after closing Go contacts...
An update may come soon...

yea... and themes dont work for me... period...
no themes, no pictures and names, no fun ...
GO SMS
Developer is working on update for GO SMS to be compatible with ICS - I have found Chomp to work the best in the mean time
GO SMS for ICS released this morning! Fixed...kind of.
Some of the messages have been linked to the contact, but not all. Can't see the pattern either. Again, only occurs within the app. Quick Reply is fine.
Edit: Just did a clear data. Will see what happens.
Edit: Just received a few SMS. Some are finding the name, some arent'. No pattern that I can see.

Notification bar tweaks?

One thing I dearly wish for is for my notification windowshade to show me individual emails and text messages. I don't receive massive amounts of email/sms, maybe 50 a day in total. But if I don't immediately check my email or sms before another one comes in then all the windowshade does is tell me I have 2 new sms or 3 new emails. YOU DON'T SAY!! I knew that as soon as I turned the screen on cos of the icons on the notification bar.
Is there a way to have the OS separate out all the messages individually, so I can read the first few lines (just the way I can if I just have one message)?
Ideally I would also like a way to delete (not just dismiss) emails directly from the windowshade, without having to go into the GMail app. And no, I don't want to use a widget.
Any suggestions?
I'm still running Gingerbread, btw. I gave up on testing ICS roms a couple weeks ago (will probably just wait until there's a fully functional CM9 ready).
I don't think this is possible without modifying the specific Google apps, and even then it is something Google specifically wants to avoid... see here, ICS Design http://developer.android.com/design/patterns/notifications.html
scroll down to "Stack your notifications"
If your app creates a notification while another of the same type is still pending, avoid creating an altogether new notification object. Instead, stack the notification.

Click to collapse
Well that's a real bummer
So theoretically a dev could implement notifications that don't stack. I wonder if someone would be interested in modding the GMail app in this way?
