MDA III trackball - P3300, MDA Compact III General

Hi guys
Just got my second replacement unit from T-Mobile but I have a weird problem with the trackball. I can use the trackball to navigate but usually as before, by pressing it you could select, this one does nothing. I've had a look at the settings and even tried enabling mouse mode but still nothing.
Any ideas ?
Thanks

I have same problem with trackball, but I that was my guilty-I used alchocol for cleaning ,trackwheel (put a little inborders of trackwheel-silly me?!) and now, trackwheel is only for navigating not for selecting application.

Start bar on keyboard

hi guys , i know this might seem a strange question but like most my stylus is loose in the holder and i sometimes need to use the keyboard to do most things on the unit and i cant find anywhere that activates the start option on the screen. I have done it by accident once but nothing since. i have checked the manual and it mentions it no where all operations seem to be around the stylus?
does anyone know what key combination it is ?
I have a 02 phone and unlike tmobile which has a one of the 4 buttons on front setup to do this as one of the defaults.
cheers in advance
It should be ctrl+escape on a full keyboard. It might also be enabled by the windows or context menu keys, not sure what your keyboard looks like.
You can use my VJKeypress to get this as well. I think it's keycode 91, not sure, check my website.

Why not assign one of the hardware buttons to do this, each one can have a duel function assigned either a tap or hold, according to the phone, in reality this doesn't work (unless anyone knows different - latest O2 ROM - not messed around with), whatever you set for a tap is also carried accross to the hold function, go to settings and locate the power buttons icon select it, then select the button you want (ok for example) then assign the <Start Menu> from the drop down box, press OK, the device might want a soft reset (mine did when I just tried this), when it comes back up hit the assigned button, and use the four way thumb control to navigate through the menus, it saves sliding out the keyboard and it becoming loose - Mike
cheers for this when i tried to reassign buttons before like the camera it wouldnt let me change them ..i hate the camera button getting accidently caught same as the record one as well.
cheers for the advance will do that would just like to know for my own peace of mind as well how to use the keyboard to do it, it should be possible.

Front Face Button issue.

Hi Everyone,
Just wondering if any has this issue?
Ive got a HTC Branded TyTN and I've installed various ROMs on the phone, included the standard rom. The buttons on the front of the phone seem to stop responding after 5 inputs.
For example, I activate the start menu with the Windows Button. I use the D-Pad to scroll down the list, i press it 4 times, the keys stop responding.
The slide out keyboard works fine.
Whats weird is, if i press the Ok button below the track wheel twice, I can then press the front face buttons 5 more times.
Any suggestions. I've done hardresets, Rom updates, im leaning toward a hardware issue. i'd like your input though.
Thanks

text entry options don't work with Touch HD (on Orange UK)

Hi all,
I apologise if this is not the right place to pose this question, but I just got a Touch HD on an Orange contract a couple of days ago, and I can't seem to be able to change the text entry method on my handset. It always stays as 'Phone Keypad', no matter which method I select, from the several methods listed: Block Recognizer, Compact QWERTY, Full QWERTY, Keyboard, etc. It's the same whether I try to make the selection by pressing the "OPTIONS" button on the phone keypad, or whether I go through Start->Settings->Input
All the software/hardware configuration on my handset is exactly as it was when I received it from Orange, so far I haven't even installed a single new program.
Any help? TIA
Hi.
Can't offer any advice as such, but can tell you that I got my HD from Orange just over a week ago, and I can change the keyboard without any problems.
I originally had a Touch Diamond, so I knew how I wanted it set up. I just brought up the menu from the keyboard at the bottom of the screen when it first popped up and did it from there.
Sorry I can't be any help, other than to tell you that you should be able to do it!
Good luck mate.
Hi,
I had the exact same problem but i wasnt too bothered but then I installed Gyrator and everything started to work.
Hi,
I had the exact same problem but i wasnt too bothered but then I installed HD Tweak and Gyrator and everything started to work. I have no idea how it worked though.
I got this phone yesterday, and I too was confused as to how I selected the different input method. Then I worked it out
It must be a bug with their firmware. You have to HOLD DOWN the centre button, keep your finger pressed and slide it up the screen to select the preferred input method. I think I did this when I was in the Compose SMS screen.
Since then, mine's stayed as I selected it - on Full QWERTY.
Hope this helps!

Same happened with mine. If you click on the options then you cant change it, however if you click on the box in the middle of the screen at the bottom, you can change them.. Bizarre!
Click to collapse
Thanks for the replies and suggestions, guys. I've got it working for me too: by pressing the 4x4 grid-like icon at the bottom centre of the screen to bring up the keyboard, and then pressing the small upward-pointing arrowhead that brings up keyboard options. I guess that's what ultrazonixe probably means... although I couldn't get it work by sliding my finger upwards off the centre button as langauld suggested (except if incidently I did it from the arrowhead icon).
Thanks for the help!
Yes this is quite tricky till you get the idea.
Press the bottom middle button (icon of keypad) to get the keypad up, if its not already up.
Then the bottom icon changes and adds a small up arrow just to the right of the keypad icon. (nothing to do with the four arrows just below the keypad)
you have to press this small up arrow just to the right of the keypad icon and a menu pops labled "touch input settings".
its not the same one that comes up when you press the options tab which does not work.
Press the right choice eg full qwerty or whatever, and hey presto the keypad changes instantly.
same here
Yes I could change it .. via selecting the arrow next to the mini keyboard on the bottom ... but it used to reset it self every time I starsted the phone...
Now I have TouchPal.. I have never looked back.

Menu area

I apologize if this is in the incorrect area, but I was able to put 2.1 eclair on my HTC Fuze with no problem and have been searching around trying to resolve an issue.
Basically I was trying to import contacts from the sim card and couldn't figure it out. On another forum they said I was to press the "menu" button and it would bring up a selection box to give some options to allow an import.
So I go to the phone and get to the contact page, but there is no way to pull up the "menu" as far as I can tell. I tried all the physical buttons and holding on many spots on the screen with no luck.
Does anyone have any ideas or is this something I should be avoiding since this is so new?

The menu button is the HOME button on htc fuze just the little house sometimes u have to press it twice or trice because the capacitive drivers arent working properly
Apologies!
Right after I wrote the response I figured that out. Thanks for the quick reply.

[Q] {PRO} Troubleshooting Hardware buttons not working properly

Hey there!
I recently bought a used MK16i Xperia Pro. The problem is that the keys of the phone are not working correctly.
The following buttons always work: BACK, MENU, POWER, SHIFT, W
Sometimes (i couldn't reproduce it) most buttons react, but a lot of them in a weird way.
When i hit VOLUME_UP for example, i see the volume bar appearing and the adjusted volume (normal) and additionally the phone types "AD," and scrolls one letter to the left (A, D, COMMA, DPAD_LEFT). Similar problem for most other keys/buttons.
I already tried Stock-GB, Stock-ICS, CM10, CM10.1 ROMs.
I also ran CWM keytest and a keynumber track app. For BACK, MENU, POWER, SHIFT, W it gave me the correct Key-ID and i found out that HOME and SHIFT pressed simultaneously resulted in UP+CONFIRM in CWM.
When the other keys were responding, keytest showed a lot of Key-IDs one after the other.
I hope you get what I'm trying to explain.
Anybody ever heard of a problem like that? I couldn't find anything.
What do you think is wrong with the phone? Hardware problem, e.g. flex cable?
Software problem, e.g. kernel?? Already tried a bunch of kernels though...
Warranty is void as i opened the bootloader and sim-unlocked the phone via Wotan/Testpoint. Should i maybe open and reassemble the phone?
Thanks in advance for any hints & suggestions. Cheers
