Imate / Dopod 900 / Universal in Australia

Hi,
I recently bought a Dopod 900 from Taiwan and having read the entire upgrade forum I am still slightly unsure about the best way to switch to English. From my reading I see that O2 has issues with the extended ROM (although I'm unclear what extended ROM really means, my best guess so far is that its preloaded applications) and that the Jasjar suffers from system hangs and performance (speed).
I understand that there are two options readily available to me;
1) Use the O2 ROM located at http://www.my-xda.com/xdaexec_soft.html (since I'm in Australia I just copied their sample phone number into their form to continue on from page 2).
2) Or use the JasJar ROM located at ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/../Uploads/Universal/Shipped ROM/JASJAR_WWE_11353_137_10301/
And if I'm correct, unzip and copy the modified ROM installer (located at ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/../BlueAngel/Tools/) into the folder containing the un-zipped contents of the ROM archive and use MaUpgradeUt_noID to perform the ROM upgrade.
However, I've noticed in the signatures that people have all sorts of different versions of;
a) The OS ROM
b) The extended ROM
c) The radio ROM
I've found out that my Dopod has;
CE Image: 1.13.36
Ext Image: 1.13.134
Radio: 1.04.02
And that the Jasjar ROM image (JASJAR_WWE_11353_137_10301 - which has a filename of JASJAR WWE 11353 137 10402) located on this site is;
CE Image: 1.13.53
Ext Image: 1.13.137
Radio: 1.04.02
I guess the following questions are really targeted towards Australians, since the Jasjar has been available now for a short time and there would be some users downunder, I would like to know;
1) what versions are they running?
2) what provider/plan they are using?
3) what applications are they using (skype, pdf reader etc).
(I noticed on my Dopod, which still has the chinese OS on it, it is installed with KKBox, Pocket MSN, ClearVue PDF, Zip, and Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc).
I do not know what KKBox is. And what's funny is that with the Voice Commander, I happen to know that "saigen" is see-you-later in madarin which stops the Voice Commander application. However I'm not too keen on learning madarin just to run my PDA.
So before I take the plunge and convert to English I would like to get some feedback from locals as to what they are running.
One last point, I got quoted from PDA King in Taiwan (I used a phone card to call) NT$1200 to switch my PDA to English. When I asked them about getting a copy of the OS on CDROM for furture restores I was advised they don't use a CDROM before its burned onto the ROMs. I think they are having me on, considering the talk in these forums, but I'm curious if anyone in Taiwan has had an english conversion done for them by a retailer?

I found a Dopod site at www.dopodasia.com that stated "In addition, new ROM can be downloaded in “Member” section if you subscribed as a Dopod member"
The membership registration page is located at http://210.64.124.195/Dopod_en/member/right.aspx
Unforuntately the registration page is rejecting my serial number, I'm at this moment calling them for help to login. In the meantime, has anyone sucessfully logged on, and what ROMs are available?

Did you manage to register on the Dopod site? My Serial # was accepted but the next page with more detail got stuck on the Account field right after Nickname field. Any idea what you need to enter there?

Not yet, we caught them at the end of the business day. They advised us they would reply via email, but we're gunna call again tommorrow morning as a little reminder.
Are you able to paste a screen shot of the next page, that way I can see what's coming up and maybe ask them direct what they need (save me trying to work it out).

I got in, this is what I did...
1) Selected "have not yet purchased" - this takes me directly to the account details page and bypasses the request for a valid serial number.
2) I thought "Account" was something to do with your provider, it isn't it is the name you want to call your membership account. You use the "account" name and "password" to login. So account can be anything.
3) Then you get sent an email confirmation with an activation link, just click the link and login.
I'm in at the moment the only thing I can see that can be downloaded is the user's manual, the "home page" in the member's area says...

...I think I will still call them and ask them about where the ROMs can be downloaded from as stated in this quote, "In addition, new ROM can be downloaded in “Member” section if you subscribed as a Dopod member." and where the applications and games reside (or a timeline of when they are due).

First one kkbox is music box same as ipod,only can use in Taiwan others
place are useless.
2nd I don't think PDA king in Taiwan can give you any copy of ROM ,
because Dopod don't have any English ROM , they just flush I-mate
or O2 ROM for you,you can get ROM from here as you mention
before.
3th Dopod Taiwan didn't post any ROM upgrade for Dopod 900, I will try
to login Dopod Asia and post here.

I've recieved the following response from Dopod Singapore (www.dopodasia.com). By the way I'm hoping that since the Singapore branch of Dopod is english speaking, that they will have an english version of the Dopod ROM.

Currently we don’t have any new ROMs for Dopod 838 and 900. if we release a ROM code, you will see it.

Chars-switching when pushing SYM on WWE ROMs

Hey folks,
I live in Germany and bought a german MDA Pro from T-Mobile. Now I usually use english-software on any device I have, Windows, Mobile Phone and my HTC Universal. The only problem I have with any other ROM than a German one is the Keyboard-Symbol-Support.
With the German OS I can type an o and hit one time the "SYM" Key and get an ö which for example is very often used in Germany.
With international versions I have to hit SYM 3 to 4 times. :x
Or is there a way to change that?
I read somewhere her in the Forum where I can change the Keyboard-Layout, so that Z is Z and not Y and vice versa, but the problem with the german "Umlaute" is still there.
So typing with the Keyboard is really anoying. That's the reason why I'm stuck with the german T-Mobile 1.20 ROM although I would love to use a newer one from QTEK or IMATE...
Can anyone help me?

same for me, bought the device in Germany as VPA-IV, changed to english ROM from iMate asap. Using latest iMate now also.
I asked about this before and understood it is in the Softkeyboard, but I have no solution until now.

ere is a file 'sym.txt' in the windows folder. You can edit this (best way to copy it to your desktop/laptop computer, adit and copy back to the xda) and you will be able to change the order of the different character as you wish.

Now I can use whatever english ROM comes up
Nevertheless my MDA Pro with the newest Orange Firmware is still VERY slow with NO extra program installed...

How did you get around the "invalid model ID"?
Did the trick with pof's SPL 1.11 work as suggested by johnnylavah?
Or did you just spend money to IMEI check?

It certailnly worked on my non-supercided HTC S620. If your device is HTC S620 regardles or the OS language it will likely accept update.no supercidding is required. DASH handsets would likely require CID unlocking for this upgrade to work.
1. run bootloader upgrade ( well, downgrade) first
2. run rom updater
This is "IU BUILD. TEST ONLY!" ROM.
Anyways...to get your English back after the ROM is upgraded:
Start --> Settings (Настройка) --> press 7 --> press5:
now, in the top most combo box (Кодировка) :
select UK or US English and press left soft button to confirm
in the next combo box select 3rd from the top entry: English Australia (Английский Австралия) and press left soft button to confirm
now, press left soft button 4 times to confrim that changes will become effective after soft reset.
At this stage you may power cycle you Excalibur
CE OS 5.2.1238 (Build 17745.0.2.3)
Radio: 4.1.13.44_02.94.90
Model Name HTC-S620
P.S. You do not need to do anything about QWERTY keyboard layout. It's just plain standard QWERTY after the language settings are applied.
And just in case if you do not like default green colour of the home screen, there is one called WIndows Default available that looks a bit more attractive to me

Nevertheless it's good to know that HTC is still working/testing WM6 for S620! Hope the final version will appear soon!

Are there many differences to the T-Mobile WM6 (exept for the branding)?

Yes, original HTC, no extra branding. no extra bloatware. This ROM is very different to T-Mo DASH WM6 ROM. Much, much better this one. Great improvements accross the board.

Is it possible to go back to the WM5 ROM if the WM6 doesn't work out? If so how do you do that?

Hi all.
I have just upgraded from from WM5 on a CID unlocked S620 and all seems to be working fine.
Getting out of Russian is a little tricky, but following the steps in this thread worked fine.
TomTom works (as well as it ever has on WM5/6), UK Vodafone GPRS works, Hotmail and Exchange email working, Google Maps runs OK.
No obvious issues or bugs so far.
General performance seems to be comparable to the last WM5 ROM.

ahhh ! i tried it too - i have a htc s621 from rogers so i'm guessing it's because it's not CID unlocked? it says ERROR [294] Invalid Vender ID -any fix to this?

securegsm, can you help us out - the ones who are getting the error, my phone's app unlocked but it's locked to rogers. i tried 2 times but i keep getting the same error. how did you get around this? is your phone unlocked already or it's locked to some provider - if it is, how'd you get around the invalid id? i tried it - it didn't work for me

I remember to have installed Ce-star after flashing spocky's rom. But after many bugs I simply removed Ce-star. Then I preferred installing a single font with respective registry modifications. By the way I'll try your method to see if it will give any different result. Thank you

You can put your font in the windows directory of your phone and then modify the registry values. I have msyh.ttf (font name YaHei) for example, so I need to modify the registry values under
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink]
as

Main disadvantage of this method is that non-unicode Chinese characters become gibberish. Also China will still be unavailable in the regional settings.
Your method is superior to mine as it can truly enable Chinese support

The cab file in following link will install a font and modifies the respective registries. You can install it on top of Spocky's rom. It was made by someone named samau, so all credits should go to him.

it can be read and write/type chinese perfectly, write chinese meaning it support handwriting input But, the problem is cannot use PlumSIP6 after that. Can anyone solve it??

Here, I hope someone can develop a perfect T.chinese version rom for HK ppl, the original rom in HK was very very weak...

HAY GUY...the file i uploaded is the full version of MSJH.TTF
the file you find in KUMA is good but not function on kiss 20
because it will reload the wince back to your ppc
it will lead many many problems there
for example...you have to reset your ks20 successful more than 10 times

I also copy the xml from HK10a rom of HK telecom provider in /windows/networkprofile, can select my telecom provider name but also the same.
After I flash back HK 10a.rom (http://rapidshare.com/files/12754205...2008_.rar.html), now the phone still the same cannot register any network, but can search its own network.
I use LGMDP_EURO to flash the rom in emergency mode with unbranded rom (since I heard all HK LG ks20 is unbranded) KisS20.4Rom
Now even I flash other rom still get the same problem.

[Q] Adding italian language on AT&T Lumia 900?

I have bought a Nokia Lumia 900 AT&T branded from USA and I have unlocked it for work with my carrier "Wind" here in Italy. I have a problem with the language settings. I have only english and spanish! No other language available! I have searched in this Forum a lot of threads about the issue and I have seen there some other people who like to add various languge pack on their Lumia but I must to have an high-level techonolgy capabilities to make this!
I have seen there is a lot of unlock level for sending language packs in cab format and I'm boring reading pages and pages without solving this problem.
This is the question: I like to know how to add italian language to my Lumia 900 and unlock Internet Thetering. I'm not interested to operating system development because I'm not a technology expert. I don't any ATF box I don't know if it exist here in Italy. My phone is original, just unlocked with a code provied from Ebay and the Operating System version is 7.10.8779.8 and the firmware is 2175.2301.8779.12223.
I don't have upgraded the OS because I prefer wait some info about the language update. I have only downloaded the Windows Phone 7 BackupV1.6 but it doesn't work (it's very boring!) because an error appear: the installed ZuneWMDU (4.8.2345.0) version doesn't match with the tool version (4.8.2134.0). I have Zune 4.8 the last version available from his website.
I think every guide provided from you can help all people who have bought a Lumia from AT&T (I think 80% of people registered in this forum).

Hi, thank you for your reply. Are you sure this is the only simple precedure? And how do I do for unlock the internet thetering?
Edit: I have added the italian laguage .cab from the website in step by step from the first Operating System to my version. But nothing appear on the setting language section. I don't know if I must to reset the phone for working, I don't have maked any modify and the cabsender write the updates are sent to the phone! Any idea?

You must put all Italian language cabs to cabsender folder, all cabs 8779 and earlier. I added Russian and French language files with this method and all works fine.

Hi haikkk, thank you for your answer. I confirm you I have added all Italian .cabs up to 8779 to my phone but nothing is changed. There is not the italian language in the language settings! I don't understand if I must to reset the phone after updating for to see the new features!

I just tried and Italian language added in system local menu. I just copied this 6 files to cabsender folder, run "WP7 Update Cab Sender.bat" and press B.
(For my OS version i added 8858 cab too)

I confirm you I have sent the cabs in this order and the cabsender program confirm me all the updates are ok. But I don't understand why the Italian don't appear into setting under "display language". Where is my error?

Maybe you need to reset phone then try again? But first backup your data.

I don't any data in this phone and I have reset the phone but nothing changed. I think it's impossible to add language pack on all AT&T Lumia 900 devices!

Hi hace to format the phone but nothing change. There are only English and Spanish. I have tryed to resend the cabs to the phone but I confirm you they survive to format because the Cabsender give an error when I try. Any idea?

What error code you receive?

Hi, the error who appear into cab sender is 801800011 and the error who appear into the phone after updating is "Update unsuccesfull! Unfortunatly , we anren't unable to update your phone. Refer to Zune software..." etc.

I have bought a Nokia Lumia 900 AT&T branded from USA and I have unlocked it for work with my carrier "Wind" here in Italy. I have a problem with the language settings. I have only english and spanish! No other language available! I have searched in this Forum a lot of threads about the issue and I have seen there some other people who like to add various languge pack on their Lumia but I must to have an high-level techonolgy capabilities to make this!
I have seen there is a lot of unlock level for sending language packs in cab format and I'm boring reading pages and pages without solving this problem.
This is the question: I like to know how to add italian language to my Lumia 900 and unlock Internet Thetering. I'm not interested to operating system development because I'm not a technology expert. I don't any ATF box I don't know if it exist here in Italy. My phone is original, just unlocked with a code provied from Ebay and the Operating System version is 7.10.8779.8 and the firmware is 2175.2301.8779.12223.
I don't have upgraded the OS because I prefer wait some info about the language update. I have only downloaded the Windows Phone 7 BackupV1.6 but it doesn't work (it's very boring!) because an error appear: the installed ZuneWMDU (4.8.2345.0) version doesn't match with the tool version (4.8.2134.0). I have Zune 4.8 the last version available from his website.
I think every guide provided from you can help all people who have bought a Lumia from AT&T (I think 80% of people registered in this forum).

I tryed to install the greek language on my lumia 900 att and i am getting an error messege update unsaccesfull i have tryed before with my htc mozart and it worked fine !

Have you found anything wi the greek? I have to sell this and the buyer wants greek menu !
