I can't stress enough how good screen protectors are. HTC should think about putting them in the box with new phones if you ask me.

That is actually a very good idea, should be a standard accessory for any touchscreen PDA/Phone.
LCD Replacement.
The biggest issue with DIY LCD replacement is that some of the panels vary within the same model.. eg Dopod 838Pro panels seem to be different within the one model!
We've been selling the LCD / Touchscreen kits now for a while (with tools)
http://store.pressdigital.com.au/dopod-838pro-imate-jasjam-replacement-touchscreen-p-4715.html
but find they only work on the newer units.
.. Make sure you get an LCD WITH touchscreen if you're going to DIY it.. They're too hard to get the alignment perfect otherwise..
Good luck

I agree with you guys entirely that screen protectors are great, though I don't think that you'd get something much better than a cheapy from the manufacturer, which is not much better than gladwrap (tm). Dopod ones aren't too bad, but still. Most of your "buy 20 Belkin (or similar) ones for $20" aren't much better. If you're looking, buy Martin Fields screen protectors - they are GOLD!! Sure, $40 for 2 is more expensive, but they'll EASILY outlast your PDA!! The MF ones are made from some NASA-developed rubber or something and are awesome. We've been selling them for ages - http://store.pressdigital.com.au/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=martin+fields&osCsid=6f1194088498df6629265ce05a116c08&x=0&y=0 - and, if you're wanting to not have to worry about major upgrades, this is the key. But, as Andy said, if you're going to buy a screen, you'd be some kind of fool not to get one with the touch attached, 'cause it's just way too much stuffing around- if you get it right at all, which few do!
Hope it gets sorted out quickly for you!

This has happened to me with my orbit 3 times now (broke it in my pocket each time). I just bought a new digitiser off eBay and fitted it myself.
search on ebay:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200150415506
Screen protector
Hi guys
When I bought my Tytn, I had a screen protector with it, but please don’t use it, I will not use it to protect a nokia 3310 screen , it’s a verrrrrrrrrrrry bad quality of screen protector.
Eboo
I damaged my brand new HTC Eris digitizer, and got a replacement from RepairsUniverse.com
They do all the HTC replacements here - RepairsUniverse.com/htc-replacement-parts.html
My new Eris touch screen arrived in quick time with instructions and only took me around 15 minutes to repair my phone.
This may be the wrong forum because my phone doesn't look like the icon for this board - if so, please could someone direct me towards the correct forum? My phone is an XDA Orbit.
Anyway, it came with a screen protector - which was a nice touch. The only problem is it's pretty poor (still better than nothing, mind). Can anyone suggest where, in the UK, to get a good one? I think I've used a Martin Fields one before and a Writeshield, but I can't remember how I liked either one since I don't remember which was which!
So, where can I get a good screen protector for an XDA Orbit in the UK?
I ordered mine over the net from Brando. It takes a while to arrive but the quality is good. I've got one each for my Charmer and Wizard, they ought to have one for your Orbit. It cost approx £7 (I think) including P&P.
Seach for the forum topic on screen protector and you'll get lovely recommendation from other members. There is another brand of srn pro that is heavily recommended by the members as well, not sure if you can get it in UK.
You can try eBay also if you want it fast. Just make sure you get the brand name right.
So Brando is an okay place for buying stuff in the UK then? Also, I suppose my main worry is that the XDA Orbit is the same screen dimensions the Artemis - I don't really understand, are they the same phone with a different shell? Is the Orbit a P3300?
The orbit is the HTC P3300 and you can also find screen protectors at gpsforless.co.uk

Well, I haven't really bought 1,000 stuff from Brando yet, but from my 2 experience with them, they are good in terms of speed (considering the process of it getting from HK to UK), packaging and quality of their product. I dont have an Orbit, but if you (and epmulligan) can confirmed that an Orbit is a P3300, then this ought to do the job . Dont worry about the picture showing you the Palm PPC. Check the words under the description on the compatible devices when ordering.
ANYWAY, chances are, if you were to buy a screen protector for a 240x320 device made by the same company, chances are, the size should be alright (e.g. chances are, the manufacturer will be using the same screen all over).
BTW, did you search the forum for other advises. There are some other brand which the members here also recommended. See if they have Orbit specific ones and probably UK delivery.
UPDATE: I had a look at the screen protector offered at gpsforless for Orbit, which is a 12 pack for £5.99. I've tried some similar 3 pack set from someone from ebay and the quality is REALLY different. Hence, I would advise you not to get it from there.
Thanks for the advice guys, very helpful.
If you don't mind waiting a few days for delivery from the USA the Boxwave Cleartouch Crystal is second to none. I used these on my XDA2i and now on my Orbit.
http://www.boxwave.com/products/cle...h-crystal-screen-protector-htc-p3300_2421.htm
I got mine from this ebay seller dx_accessories
He sells the multi layer stuff and I can confirm it does work. Two main differences from the O2 supplied protector. 1, the top layer is much harder and much more resistant to scratch. It is also smooth (glossy finish) and the stylus glides over it with ease (not the case with the O2 protector). 2, the so-called 'gel' layer that adheres itself to the screen works brilliantly. It left zero air bubble with very small effort. I spent 15 mins getting dust and air bubble out of the O2, this I spent 1 min getting the screen squeaky clean and it sticks on to it perfectly. The size is also perfect, leaving no more than 0.3 mm to any side.
The only problem I have is the glossy finish, making the screen a bit more difficult to see under strong light. I own a Wizard and had a similar protector for similar price but with a matte finish like a normal LCD monitor.
It comes with a screen wipe which is handy. I won't complain for GBP4 all in.

Looked for him and it apears he has nothing at all on sale at all at the moment.
I remembered where I got my writeshield from - globalpositioningsystems.co.uk so I spoke to them on the phone, found the one for the Orbit and ordered it. I just figured I'd stick with what I know because I was satisfied with it before. The main reason I chose this was because the guy on the phone could guarantee me it would fit the device.
I bought mine at http://search.stores.ebay.es/DuraSe...sooZ1QQfsopZ1QQftsZ2QQsaselZ136025443QQsofpZ0
Very quick and impressive quality.
Regards
It turns out the person I spoke to at globalpositioningsystems.co.uk was wrong. The writeshield they told me to get is too big...
Hi, I'm from Portugal and I have an O2 Orbit and I need a new housing cover, but since the O2 isn't on sale in Portugal I was wondering if it is possible to use an HTC P3300 cover instead??? Anyone tried this already???
I might be able to help.
is the cover your after for the battery.. if so pm me and i can send you one out. its an old one i had from my old uk 02 Orbit. Im not sure if the p3300 will fit. maybe some one else can help you, but I dont mind sending it out ya,it's just sat here doing nothing, its is a little worn on the silver bits but better than nothing
mavisdavis - Actually I was thinking about the whole cover, battery front and back, but in fact the worst part is the battery cover... If you say you have a battery cover that you don't use and it isn't any trouble to you to send it to me, I'll sure be thankful!!! I'll pay for the ports of course... If so PM me, ok???
Nevertheless my question remains, is it possible to use a P3300 cover in a O2 Orbit???
Thanks in advance
Hugo Costa
The answer to your question is YES, the P3300 housing does fit the xda Orbit, I had one on mine, I still have it and can sell it to you ?
Again thank you very much for your reply, Think I'll be trying one then...
Jester01 - Also thank you very much for your offer but I think the postal costs will be too high to make it worth sending the cover from UK to Portugal...
Nevertheless PM me with your offer, we never know...
Regards

Can't imagine postage to be that much, as these are very light, I would accept £30.00 gbp for it, it is in very good condition and I will include 3 stili as they are different to the orbit one's.

How can you that? XDA Orbit have a locker for the Battery cover, and the p3300 doesnt have, so the extUSB is not in the same position

Sorry to say, but it's the same mother board, so check before you post !
And I've had a p3300 oem HTC housing on my orbit for the past few months, yes you are correct with the battery lock, but that's an addition 02 have added.
does it work vise-versa too? will a xda orbit housing fit with no-hassle on a p3300??

Couldn't say for definate, but logic states it should as I said I have an Orbit, and used a p3300 housing on it, so there is no reason why it shouldn't work the other way round.
You are just using the components inside and none of the phones original plastics, i.e. you only swap the motherboard, lcd, vibration motor, front earpiece and rear speaker.
You have to also use a different stilus, as they are shaped on the end different.
Hope this helps.

Jester01: Thank You pal! Now I would buy XDA's one, 'cause I like it better ^^
I tried fitting the p3300 housing (bought from ebay) on my o2 xda and i couldn't do it, i don't know how but it just wouldn't fit and i could see the housing was bulging unnaturally in various places. I got a replacement xda housing set which fit perfectly.
the version i bought from ebay didn't have the side buttons and there are various bits in the back plate - speaker, vibrate device etc which you need to remember to take out and put in the new one.
also, i seem to be getting very poor reception now, i don't know if this is because i've changed the rom (tried oops, touch 4.02 and rolled back the radio version) or perhaps I damaged the antenna somehow by changing the housing?? - anyone with experience?
thanks.

May I ask how much did you pay for that new housing?
For your question, I "guess" that because the housing doesn't fit perfectly, the antenna parts (a metal plate that stick with the body part of the housing) are not attached well to the connector of the phone board. So the signal would be bad.
I said "guess", because I have an experience like this before with my Siemens M55
Oh, one more question which I need to know a lot. Does the front plate (not the battery cover or antenna cover - which of course I knew it's made of plastic) made of Aluminum or plastic?

Thanks, I'll open it up and take a look at the connections - maybe the screws need a bit more tightening.
They both cost around £25 and it's all made of plastic - painted plastic although the XDA case is certainly better quality than the htc design.
I still have the HTC housing which is 'as new'. I'll sell it for £20 if anyone's interested.
How to open the XDA Orbit
Hi,
I would like to change the housing of my XDA Orbit too. But I only found disassembly instructions for HTC P3300 and this instructions did not work. I cant remove the plastic part which covers the gps, gsm and wlan antenna.
Can someone give me a hint or provide disassembly instructions.
Kind regards,

I did find some instructions by googling, I think the trick is to peel off the rear part by levering the stylus in it's port.
I dropped my Rhodium on asphalt.....its operational but there are scratches on the right edge of the digitizer and housing. Anyone knows where I can buy a digitizer and housing parts for a T-Mobile US Touch Pro 2? The housing and digitizer is a little different from the other Touch Pro 2s
Am another one
Well,
I have exactly same problem. But inspite of that guy i bought a damaged piece of that phone from ebay.
Its got completely destroyed Housing and the Digitizer seems to be bad to.
I would like to kick myself that I didnt knew, that the T-Mobile version is different...
I knew that ATT mades different housing, but T-Mobile...
So guys, is there a chance to get a housing and specificaly for the T.-Mobile HTC TP2 and If there is not, is it possible to convert the T-Mobile version into standard one? Using stanard housing and digitizer... ??
Thanks alot for your reply
The button layout and the shape is a little different between the T-Mobile US version and the HTC gsm version.....I already did my research.
But where to get that housing...
It seems that I have found a guy on ebay who is able to get me the Digitizer, but not the housing...
You found a digitizer? PM me the name of the seller if he has more.
As for the housing, how about using a T-Mobile TP2 display housing since there is none available yet? I saw a couple of Ebay sellers with dummy displays

Only one seller right now.
I have been buying some parts off eBay for my original Tilt and some from another website www.fonlogix.us
FonLogix also has instructional videos of how to dismantle the phone but I think those are the Wiki's here too.
I have not checked to see whether fonlogix has parts for the TP2, as modified by Tmo. I have to order parts for a BB Curve later so I will check but you can check them out. You can also google it. There are a number of companies that are selling the parts for phones.

Well am awaiting the photos of that digitizer first. If he will send me those, then am gonna give you his contact on eBay..
Do you think that those dummy phones uses the real Housing? If so, than its a awesome idea, but am raelly not sure about it...
And the second problem is, that they do not ship outside US
If you are getting both the Digitizer & Housing you should be able to use any one that doesn't have the headphone jack hole. The internal guts "should be the same. The main difference is the T-Mobile one has a different digitizer & bezel. Just my thought on this.

Well, the housing is a actual problem, as long as I cant find it anywhere.
As what I have heard, the backplate and battery cover should hass the same dimensions and the only thing that is different is the front bezel and the digitizer, that has got different buttons position. ( at least the Tmobile version looks nicer to me

Anyone have ideas on where to find parts for a Aria? I understand HTC is notoriously slow about releasing aftermarket parts. The repair guy I took my phone to encouraged me to help him find the part.

I used to order all my blackberry parts from here. Very good reveiws. There across the seas but shipping is usually quick and even faster if you bump it up.http://cnn.cn/shop/htc-aria-c-277_1068.html
Thanks Kudvu002! You saved the day!
I found one on ebay, but the shipping's not as quick.
Have you tried taking it apart yet? I'm trying to get a little insight on the disassembly. It seems like you can pop off the top yellow cover but I wasn't able to get it off and didn't want to force it.
anyone knows where to buy the digitizer for the Aria? cnn.cn shows the digitizer in stock,, but when you go to checkout it says it is not....

So I followed the tutorial found on android forums, it was relatively easy, i forgot to take pictures of the steps but i can write a tutorial if anyone wants it, because the tutorial on A.F. is a little vague. But I have found a solution to the cracked screen problem, I went to Best Buy to see if they had the Zagg shield (which they do, it's for the Intruder/Aria/Liberty) but they also had a new case which looks a little more resilient against dropping. The case is made by Superior Communications (BB item number 35307BBR) and is pretty rugged looking, anyways let me know if you want a tutorial written up, i will try to get some pics to do it with.
so I'm about to replace mine.. any tutorial with pics available?
for those of you that have ordered and recieved their replacement digitizers, are they AT&T branded still?

Yes they are.. and they are not original part... there are some differences... and after the installation you will have the light that turns on the -home- menu-back-search buttons to filter into the screen. I finished up adding the insurance and getting a brand new for $50.00 and sold the old one for 200

I can have a tutorial up by tomorrow, unfortunately with pics of the full install but close enough to get you there. The screen I bought was an HTC oem screen and ATT branded, there aren't any that aren't branded so far. Lemme get the tutorial together and ill post it tomorrow.

I've seen this phone shown off a few times withut the AT&T branding and with just the HTC logo at the top/middle and would prefer that digitizer.
(and no I wasn't mistaking the HD Mini for the Aria lol) Wonder how long before those are available. Probably will have to wait until another carrier gets the phone IF anyone else decides to even pick it up.
The button light issue is quite a drag tho. Sucks. You could try to add some sort of tiny strip above the capacitive buttons area to shield the light from leaking into the viewable screen area.
here is a good video showing a Disassembly of the phone, it might help.
