WM6 Roms - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Hi.
A while ago I upgraded my WM5 Rom on my "I-Mate JasJam" to "Shamanix Grass"
As I've had several issues with this Rom I'd just like to start fresh with a new one.
However, I need it to do the following
* Stream Video and Audio from websites (such as planet 3)
* Have only the essential tools (No games etc)
* Operate fast
* Have the GPS console
So I've heard. The best cooked Rom is "Black Satin". Is this correct?
I also read a while ago there was a program you can install to prevent "bricking" your PDA whilst re-flashing the OS. May I also have the link for that.
A few months ago I did see a thread with Every single WM6 Cooked Rom Build, But I can't seem to find it now (not in the stickies)
Anyway, Help is much appreciated.
Thanks

1) You want to install HardSPL.
2) the "best" ROM will differ by anyones standards, likes and tastes. Good luck trialling lots of ROMs and see which one you like the best.

Read the Wiki and go through Mr. Vanx'z guides first. That helped me out alot when I first got started with this stuff.

Ok cheers.
So HardSPL is the program that prevents "bricking" my PDA?
And in that case what rom would you recomend providing it can do what I've stated?

Yes to u'r hardspl question!
Only u can choose the rom thats right for u'r exspectations, device, etc... But if u don't want to study, then try CRC's (non big storage) which he puts' a lot of quality control in! good luck...

why not ? there are lots of roms out there, check the wiki-pages
Choose your favourite, don't forget to run USPL before flashing and there should be no problem
....and please don't ask which rom is the best one - there are lots of threads about that and imo it's inadequate the say which one is the best.
All the cooks are trying to create great roms - it's up to you which one you like the most....
Yes you can upgrade or degrade
You can always upgrade to WM6 and downgrade to WM5 if you intend to change later. I have done it before many time installed different ROM's.
You only need to run USPL before any new ROM install.
I did this myself just the other day. You can get the official ROM from here for the UK XDA Orbit.

This one does'nt need USPL since it is the official ROM.

I think I'm going to go this route. That site says I need Activesync 4.5 - however I'm on Vista and using the Sync Centre application - will this do?
Have a look at this thread Anjow
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317589&highlight=vista
I think it has everything you need.
Thanks. Given how complex that looks I think I'll just use my XP machine to do it.
Am I right in thinking that upgrading like this will hard reset the device? That I'll need to reinstall all my programs and reinstate my appointments/contacts etc.? If so, can I create an SPB self-extracting backup on WM5 then run it on WM6 to get my config back?
I know there are lots of ROMs out there but I was just careful and used the standard O2 release:
http://xda.o2.co.uk/xdaOrbitSoftware.html
And yes, it clears out your machine unless you have installed the software on the SD card in which case it just gets confused.
But it is worth it.

Odd, that site won't accept my serial number... I have tried many different combinations of what it could be (swapping 0 for O etc.) but it keeps telling me it isn't valid.
Just use the link I provided, it is the same ROM. Using the other link you have to make sure that you use Internet Explorer, other brwsers don't work.
Will do then, cheers.
slow downloads
could someone please up the official O2 UK WM6 ROM for me please?
i've tried downloading from the aforementioned official websites. it starts out at a fine speed, then gets slower and slower until it eventually times out.
really want to upgrade, so if someone could upload the official rom to megaupload/rapidshare i would be much appreciative.
thanks
Here you go, fortunatly I still had it on my HD from when I upgraded mine.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WOEXBYKO
thanks!
cheers for that much appreciated. however it seemed to download fine this time, but i'll get urs as a back up too!
this is the official ROM right?
thanks again
Yes it is the official ROM, I got it from the link I posted earlier in the thread.

New to all this custom rom stuff whats the best 8525 WM6 rom to use?

currently i have the official ATT WM6 rom installed and idk if its just me or not but it seems slow as hell roughly the same speed that my old wing was and the 8525 is double the speed
can i just install a custom rom ontop of the att one or how does this all work exactly? I already cid and sim unlocked my 8525
In your guys opinion whats the best 8525 rom to use? thanks for your time and help
You can check the ROM benchmarks thread (link is in my signature). Safe bets are Schap's, TNT, VP3G, these guys were around for long time - if you are more adventurous soul you can try other ROMs as well. Do not be lazy and search about these ROMs advantages/disadvantages in their threads. It will pay off (my own experience). Welcome to Hermes forum!
I'll second KarhU's welcome...
I'll also second his choice of Roms....
I'll also second his advice not to be lazy.....
Which Rom works for one person doesn't always work for someone else... VP3G's Roms are great, but not so good for me - my choice is Schaps - before his (her?) great Roms I loved the Black Roms which were a toss up with Custel's... before that I waited up all night for Kyphur's creations... See the pattern? The only way to get the best Rom for you is to try them.
And remember - the latest isn't always the best so try some earlier roms, read the threads and apply the patches/fixes - most recent Roms are good (I have a few more to try such as TNT etc)
BUT no one will tell you which is best for you - it's kind of like choosing a woman - right speed, wrong colour
where can i find all of these roms exactly?

ROM for bricked hermes?

Hi,
Are there any Roms out here whice are made specifically for a hermes with no GSM?
i.e. Without the radio (and settings/ programs for the phone section).
FYI - I some how bricked my radio and have no way of restoring GSM so i want to make the best of a bad situation and turn it into a stable PDA!
Thx

Most cooked roms don't come with a radio anyway, and tbh, just pick any rom and flash it, because I dont think there's is one with all the settings removed.
Check the stick for active chefs, PDAcorner and CRC's are my personal recommendations, CRC's being more vanilla.

Thanks for the advice but unfortunately normal flavours do not help me. I've tried Schnaps 4.30, Crc 12.9 and MRH 9.0 but all of them still leave me with a slow, unresponsive, crash prone device (they were all fantastic ROMS before my radio went kaput).
Idealy; I would like to Rip out parts of a CRC ROM which are causing my device to crash but don't know what they are... I will have a look at some cooking posts for clues unless someone can point me in the right direction?

N00b-Hardspl/Radio/Rom compatible? Right idea?

hi i am new to this scene although i have been hacking devices for several years so am not a complete N00b. I just want to know if i have got the right idea here:
I follow this guide: http://modmydiamond.info/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=26
With this hardspl (v1.24): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408621
This Radio Rom (v1.00.25.05): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407956
And this rom: http://www.duttythroy.net/download-area.html?task=view.download&cid=149
Is this right? Will this upgrade run smoothly with these options? Also i have not yet recieved my fone, will do in the next few days, it is an Upgrade from Orange UK. Will all this run smoothly on my fone? Or does it depend upon product versions etc of the software/hardware on my fone? Its just that i have been reading around all the info and have noticed that sometimes it does matter.
Thanks for any help,
James
once u hard-spl u can flash any radio and rom. not necessarily just those two.

Yep i know that but i think those are the recommended radio and hardspl for the dutty rom i have chosen.

If you just want to flash Dutty's ROM, those choices are OK and will work.
I tested/used a lot of Dutty's ROM's and I can say that they are solid and decent ROM's but not the fastest (fast enough though )
Read the WIKI
There's alot of Topics on radio rom's posted in the wiki
Peace
Mike
Maybe my experience helps:

Hi, i dont mean to sound stupid and annoy you but can a few of you tell me which are the best roms for performance/features? I have read the wikis and guides, however there are too many different roms, and the guides do not fully explain the benefits of each one.
Thanks, i was gonna go with dutty's as i thought it was the most popular?

Information overload :(

Ok, i must say you guys really have a great community here! It's booming with thread, updates, tweaks, fixes etc. for everything. I've browsed the forums, searched it and i always find several thread concerning the topic i need.
My problem though, is that i can't seem to put all the information i get together! I have been flashing my Diamond a couple times and fallen in love with WM6.5. Currently i have a small rom that i fight with when it comes to sms'ing and dialing/useing the phone. That's a big problem for me.
What i need is a advice really. I need a ROM on my phone that satisfies the following points (in prioritized order):
1. Phone working with number(only) keyboard when i enter a number (this is only a problem with my current rom l3v5y , 25. december). Also when i call one of them "press 1 for bla, 2 for blabla" i need to be able to enter keys, which i can't atm)
2. Texting (email, sms) working with a nice keyboard (ezinput) - not working atm.
3. Danish T9 (i'm really having problems getting this to work => i'm stuck with english dictionary atm)
4. Fast (i'd much rather have fast than fancy!) I don't need touchflo to slow me down.
5. Small (i like to have a lot of free memory) - i really don't need touchflo to hog it all
6. WM 6.5 is nice - it replaces touchflo for me (mostly because of leaving more ram)
I currently have a WM 6.5 version that has the start button and other small icons on the bottom - is that the 6.5.x versions? It seems nice, but definately not a must.
Please, do you have any input? I don't mind doing some work, but i'll probably mess it up if it's too complicated
Revolution
Ok i think i settled for Revolution Titanium
I still need to have T9 with danish working and i'm still a bit confused about changing radio, misc fixes/tweaks etc. It's a jungle!

LOL, that's how I felt when I got starting but the trick is...don't do anything until you have read for days.
You are past a decent hump at your stage but you still have ways to go. Reading all the stickies is step 1.
Flashing a Radio: Same as flashing a ROM. Just put the both files in the same folder and start the process by going to the RUU_exe. file.
There is also an internal method but I don't want to overwhelm you at this point.

With the Radios, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, try them all out for a day or week at a time to see which gives you the best battery consumption to performance ratio.
As for the HARD SPL, definitely upgrade. Everyone should have Hard SPL 1.93 (located in my signature). The problem is that 1.40 is write protected and upgrading won't be easy. Try first on your own to see if a simple upgrade will work. If it doesn't work, jot down the error number and get back to me.
Enjoy..
Thanks for the input I can't seem to figure out if a ROM can contain a radio as well? It seems i have the v1.09.25.23 radio and i'm not sure if the titanium ROM installed that - or perhaps a previous ROM that was prepacked with an installer (ack, i know...) - or if it's default from the factory?
Anyways WiFi doesn't seem to work anymore, could that be because of the radio change or the titanium or perhaps my hardware suddenly faulting? I haven't been using wifi untill now for the last two ROM tryouts - i only need it now for connecting to the local (home)network...

When downloading a chefs rom, they most like give you the ROM only. Titanium is basically the default interface and is always included as it's part of microsofts interface but most chefs shut it off and use manila (either 2.1 or 2.5 versions).
It's possible that something is interferring with the wifi and it's possible that it could be hardware related but the only way to really find out is to flash another rom to rule out the Rom Variable or perhaps it's a app that you installed. Play around with it.
Ah yeah i ment revolution - i'm using the titanium version (not using manila) - i'll probably try and flash to the recommended radio (the one recommended in the revolution thread).
Thanks again for the feedback
