SMS / Texting Sounds - using mp3's - HTC Excalibur

Hey guys - I recently put an mp3 on the phone and wanted to use it as a text message alert. But it won't recognize it in mp3 format - just wav file.
Is there a way to bypass that setting so i can use mp3 vs wav format for text alerts?

It should recognize the .mp3... I just added some .mp3s myself, and they all were recognized as text sounds as well. Where do you place the file once you transfer it over to your phone?

Hi Rip - I had placed it in the Windows Root Diretory. Should I have placed it in another folder?
Where did you place your files?

If you have put the .mp3 on the memory card it has to go on the root dir.

I always place mine in the first screen after you've clicked 'Explore' in ActiveSync. I believe it's called "Mobile Device Center". Afterwards, it should allow you to select the file for texts.

??? Cant Change Ringtone ???

right i had my ringtone set as something personal that i wanted - though i cant even remember how i did that as it was an option somewhere that moved the song its self anyway for some reason i cant use my own ringtones any more - every time that i try to select one it saves but then i open it again and its selected the last ringtone there is some windowsmobile one which i dont want
is it something that i have done?
how do i fix it?
could it be an application that i have used? i added the media player "Nitrogen" could that have affected it?
the apps i have installed:
TomTom Navigator
Southampton Navigator Map
Spb Mobile Shell 3, Weather, Keyboard, time, TV
Dusk comm mgr & misc
VolDeus MS3Config
Fingerkeyboard
HDTweak
changescreen
Nigrogen
could any of these affected it?
Right it seems that Nitrogen isnt the culprit as i uninstalled it and i still cant change ringtone back to what i had it as. i am also missing the option when holding down on a music file to set that as the ringtone i have no idea what i have done but im desperate need of some help
right i might be getting a bit closer - the Touch HD seems to think that all my audio files that i have on my memory card are windows files could this have something to do with it? and i keep coming back to Nitrogen i remember during the installation that it gave me a box to tick for MP3 now, which i ticked could that have something to do with this?
Not sure what you've done to lose the option in file explorer but a workaround is to copy the song/sound you want to the 'My Ringtones' folder which is located in the 'My Documents' folder.
You should then be able to go to the sounds settings and choose your song as a ringtone.
Good luck...

nope i have tried that as well. it wont let me use it from there either - i have them there i can select them it just wont use that song when the phone rings. i just copied a song over from my computer and even that didnt work - still goes back to one from the computer - im running out of ideas maybe im going to be forced to do a hard reset as a soft reset didnt do anything
right its fixed - it took a hard reset though
it happened to me as well
open nitrogen mp3 player
click options--- then settings---- then file associations
and clear the box for use nitrogen to open mp3 files
that causes the problem, i hope it works for you too.

Help - Can't Find Music

I used Windows media player to sync music to the default storage card location which is "my device\storage card\music". When I go to the HTC music Icon it starts searching for music and never finds any. The songs are mp3.
When I first got the TP2, I transfered a few files to the phone prior to getting a microSD card. When I went to the HTC music icon at that time it didn't have any problem finding the music.
What is the solution?
Thanks.
Anybody - need help on this.
Try delete everything (files and folders) under this folder
My Device\Application data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\
(if you have trouble removing the content, reboot your device first)

Thanks for the reply. I tried the following and it worked:
I used Advanced Configuration Manager to change the default location to "\Storage Card\Music".
I deleted the music in the Music folder on my main storage and when I touched the touchflo Audio tab it said searching. I opened up library and when I clicked all songs they started to appear. After I did that, all was good.
yeah i don't like the sync option with windows media player.
i have a question though: how do you keep the music playing when the screen is off? i like to keep my phone in the case & i want to play music thru the speaker but i don't want the screen on.
wtf? double post? how?
my question is: How do you get it to change the artwork? I have the same picture appearing for every song, even though it is a different artist. Why does that happen?

Glad to know that works too
I recently changed my music folder's location (also to Storage card\Music) and Audio Manager refused to refresh. Deleting the content of AudioManager_Eng resolved the issue very well for me without resorting to Advanced Configuration (which I haven't installed)

Do you have to do this step every time you add new music to the phone so TF3D knows to re-index the music folder?

tilt 2 can't find my mp3 file?

Hi, I want to change my tilt 2's sms notification sound into a MP3 file on my TF card. I copied it to my documents- my ringtone, and windows- rings, and even set up a folder called my ringtone on TF card. However, when I select new text message- there is no new file in the drop list. What should I do?
It wont work that way, unfortunately.
WAV format dropped directly in windows folder will though.
sorry for short answer but Christmas morn.
also will work out of root directory on storage card--

Open your music program and after playing the mp3, the menu will have "set as ringtone" as an option.

Did you play the ringtone first?
I use ringo lite to attach mp3 as a ringtone to contacts. I think you can set a default ringtone to a mp3 as well.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
How come ringo needs all these permissions ?

Help Please?!

I hope I am posting this in the right place... if not, can a Mod put it where it needs to be ? Thanks!
I was in a business meeting and wanted to record it. I downloaded the app Tape-A-Talk to record the meeting. I constantly checked to make sure it was recording.(and it was) At the end of the meeting it showed that it recorded over an hour and 10 minutes. I guess the native format is 3gp. I saw in the settings that it could also be saved as a .wav file. So I save it as a wav file. (I guess that is where my troubles begin) The wav file shows up in the listing but I cant find it on the nexus. Also when I hit play... nothing!
The app also gives the option of emailing the wav file, so I tried that and a day later my phone and gmail show that it is still sending. I really need this recording and I would love to revert it back to the native file format. (I have since recorded several other test files in the 3gp fomat and they show up in the app listing with the wav file and they play when i hit the play button.) When I hit the play button on the wav file....NOTHING! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
pretty sure that wav file is uhh... massive. you'll never get that sent via email. ever.
hook the phone up to your computer? http://www.android.com/filetransfer/
either way, prepare for the worst. sounds like that file is corrupted (or you aren't giving it enough time to load).
Also maybe try playing it with the app called power amp
1. Send the wav from your phone to your computer.
2. Convert it to 3gp http://www.ojosoft.com/download/download-audio-converter.html
3. Do the free download
4. Send back to phone
5. Hopefully that works!
I finally got the file off of my Nexus. It is 212 megabytes, and is in WAV format. Now the problem is nothing will play the file ie. windows media player or even VLC .
I was thinking maybe if I convert it back to its native format, I might get the audio back. Does anyone know of a wav to 3gp conversion program that is free? Thanks again for all the help!
