I've just got an MDA3. Is the battery life really that bad? With wifi/bluetooth off, radio on, backlight on maximum, writing for 25 minutes constantly to SD-card (making a backup), it went down from 100% to 88%. Also, does anyone have experiences with the mugen extended batteries?...
usually lst a bit longer if u turn the backlight down to lowest without turning it completly off. only use things when u relly have to. and if u travel get a car charger, its a real lifesaver. dont use vibrate cos that uses a lot of power, its the screen that uses the power the most,i find that if i turn the battery meter off that my battery also lasts a little longer. the other day i used wifi for a minute, and i forgot to turn it off, within an hour i lost 60% of battery power.
and id like to har more about extended batteries!
I always turn off WiFI and BT when not in use, stanby mode ( phone on unit off) I get all day out of one charge. But start playing games or internet with WiFI and I'm lucky to get 2hrs out of 1 charge. I also use an auto charger and have a seperate USB sinc/charge cable with power connector to recharge at work.
1 of the downsides of the Qtek, but it is better than the iPAQ 2210 that I had before.

I purchsed an Mugen extended battery from Lion Battery http://etxquc.simplyonline.com/
I got a version 2 2200mAmp battery and it works fantastic. There are a subset of people that have had problems with the battery, but Lion has been great about exchanging them without complaint.
There's a version 3 coming out thats 2400.
I say well worth the cost myself. Its taken my Sprint 6600 from a recharge once a day minimum to a 2-day pda.

got problem iv upgrade my phone to black 2.5 and upgrade the radio to 1.41
now my battery finish after 8 houres(always after 3 days)
i dont use mach the phone so the battery not good now
i want to konw is this can be cause the upgrade to black or because i upgrade the radio freom 1.38 to 1.41
what can cause it?
It would be helpful to know which operator you have...
But, try different radios. It seems that radios have a more significant impact on battery life in general.
Ok Thanks I Had Black 2.0 Was Very Good
And I Had Radio 1.30
Iv Got Spl 2.10 And Jasjam
I Guess Ill Put Back Radio 1.38
Was Best For Me
Great. Let us know if that sorts your problem.
I had the same problem with my battery after flashing Black 2.0, and subsequently 2.5
It was because when i flashed the Hermes to WM6 it was only at 50% battery life. WM6 must recalculate the battery at 50% battery life to 100%. Hence my battery was screwed only ever charging to 50%, but WM6 assumed it was 100%
ended up getting a 2400mAh replacement of ebay
Sweet. Nice info skip. Did you have to get a case for that phone with the new battery? I was looking into getting one but I didnt know what phone case supports the bigger battery. Any suggestions?
I had the same problem only after flashing to Black 2.5. The phone would be dead after about 8 hrs using pushmail all day.
Anyway, my "fix" was to pull the battery, then pop it back in and charge without turning the phone on. That way, the OS wasn't running, and only the internal phone charger was in charge of regulating the power, at least that is my guess.
Anyway, after one session of that, it has been fine. Give that a try and see if that fixes the half charges you're getting.

I tried "resetting" the battery like that but left out a step...will try that and see. Did you run it dead or can you start the process when the battery is at say 50%?

hmm. I have same problem with battery. my battery barely lasts one full day and before the upgrade i used to charge once in 2 days. Do you guys really think the battery level matters when flashing?

Thanks. My battery was still pretty good, but not "great". I assumed some settings changes effected it. I did this and it is lasting longer. With all the "HELP!!! ROM KILLED MY BATTERY" type posts, this is a GREAT find. Thanks.

Im not convinced, would be a VERY weird way of calculating battery levels and would totally rely on the user having 100% when the OS is flashed.
My bet would be that the new Radio is causing some problems, or even further the problem might be caused by 3rd party software (which ive seen MANY times).
Maybe you could solve that issue by using an external charger. Get the battery up to 100% again. This might persuade the Tytn to recalibrate.

I have had the same problem with Battery life after upgrading to Black 2.5 and radio 1.41. Unfortunately I upgraded both the ROM and the Radio at the same time, so I could not identify where the problem came from.
From reading comments on radio 1.41, most users seem to report improved battery life over earlier radios.
My battery was approximately 60% when I upgraded the Radio and ROM. I am going to try the battery charging trick mentioned above tonight and see if it helps.
yep, will pop the original battery in and try charging it without turning on
The ROM doesn't matter. Most all lithium powered devices with a batter meter use smart chips to monitor current into and out from the battery to give battery status. They all get slowly out of calibration over time with many partial charge/discharge cycles typical to phones and light duty use. The best way to calibrate them in a phone would be to pull the battery, then re-insert it and charge it fully. Much of the commercial gear (medical) that I use is calibrated by running fully down, then recharge to full to re-set the meter calculator. These batteries do have the smart chips in the pack.
Lithiums are very specific on charge voltage as well, 4.2v per cell at full charge and 3.0 considered fully discharged (any lower and the battery is toast, most devices shutdown to prevent over discharge).
A simpler device might just measure the battery voltage alone, then scaling the 3.0 to 4.2v output of the battery to a 0 to 100% reading. This type is most likely used in phones which have little to no active electronics in the packs themselves. PDA's use a mix I believe, as some software can be used to calculate runtimes based on realtime current drain.
Last but not least, lithiums simply have a shelf life of only a couple of years. In a phone, I'd say a year and they are already showing noticeably lower capacity.

Interesting theory and very educational. I would say that most people should come back saying the trick worked. I am actually going to try it myself because of the logic.
Thanks,
OK, just a little update:
It must be either Black 2.5 or the radio, i've tried default fresh installs with 3 differnet fully charged batteries, my original, the 2400mAh ebay one and a borrowed battery from a friends vario.
Im still getting major battery drain - a few hours in standby mode ?
gonna try upgrading to black 3.0 today
Same problem here, severe battery drain with Black 2.5 and radio 1.41. Tried the battery trick, doesn't seem to work for me.
Have tried multiple settings to preserve battery life, but no results yet. Started this morning, fully loaded, did about 30 phonecalls this morning and already 60% battery. Battery won't last till the end of the day.
I will install Black 3 tonight.
after upgrading to Black 3.0 im still getting this dreaded battery drain, Gonna try the radio
currently running 1.40.30.00 on T-mobile UK
goin to try upgrade to 1.41.00.10 and see if that helps
Can other users who suffer the battery drain please let me know what radio they are running?
Cheers
Hi All,
Ever since i've upgraded to WM6.1 on my HX4700 I get a battery drain while PDA is off. Charged the battery to 100% and during the night (~11 hours) the battery has only 70% charge left. With WM2003SE it would be ~99% or so.
Does anybody know if this is normal for WM6.1 or that my battery is dying? Battery is about 2 to 3 years old.
GPS, WiFI, BT all is off.
Any way of measuring if the batt still OK? When idle i have about 200mA drain.
Any good replacement batteries available, price/quality ?
Thanks in advance!
I'd say your batter is on the way out, there should be practically zero [less than 1% of total capacity per day] drain at room tempreture and even less the colder it gets.
Getting 2-3 years out of a battery is pretty good.

you should have a look on the processes runing in Background. Per example SK-Tools or the integrated Taskmanager can show you how much cpu-usage a process causes. It should be around 0-2% when no program is started in Background. If there is a higher cpu-usage something is wrong. Perhaps some Software that doesn´t fit to WM6.1
I had a Ipaq H6340 and after 5years of daily usage the battery was still able to hold on for 5days(with some usage). So the HP batterys are not as bad as many other batterys put in some devices.

Try to recalibrate your battery, you can found it in the Wiki, I have my original battery since Aug 05 and with an extensive use (WI-FI, bluetooth, a lot of calls and internet) it last for 28hours form 100% till recharge
Hope this helps
Cheers

I come from a different device camp (Loox) but you may be experiencing the same issue that our community has with the WM5, WM6 and WM6.1 (much the same MS code as your HP) ? The culprit is probably ActiveSync on the PPC. It seems to come alive for notifications or "silent" alarms/tasks or appointments set by the Calendar application. It then leaves the device on for as long as the time before switch off on battery power is reached! I agree that soemthing like SK-Tools should detect it, but you have to be around to see it. It is amazing how much power is taken by these events.
Worth checking? The Loox solution was to create a dummy or Fake server in ActiveSync and make sure it only ever wakes under manual control not automatically and to make the on time with no activity on battery very short.
You might also like to try the freeware acbPowerMeter application? A search on this site or Google will find it. It shows you current consumption in any PPC device when on battery. It is quite revealing and you can find out just what current is taken by each setting (e.g. scrren brightness) and application. I have had it installed on 3 generations of PDAs including an old HP Jornada.
Thanks for the replies!

Wondering if the batt is bad as yesterday it ran about 7 hours from 100% to 2%, pda was on and idle.
y17dt
CPU usage is only 0-2% or so when idle. Don't have much running in the background. Notestoday and Wisbar Advance 3.
orb3000
I did a recharge last night after letting it drain to 2%. So let's see if that did the recalibration. Read on other topics that indeed after installing WM6.1 it's best to drain the bad and recharge as it needs to calibrate again.
fingerstoo
When the PDA is on and idle, it consumes about 180mA with now and again a peak around 400mA, so nothing big.
Will check the activesync out as maybe that is what is activated when PDA is off. Yet via SK tools I set AS auto connect to OFF.
Thanks!

Hi,
Seems to be fixed now that I drained the batt to 2% and recharged it to 100%.
Overnight the drain was 1% only
Cheers!
Hello,
I've read the threads about battery in the desire, BATT FIX with new kernels etc but can't really find a definite answer for my problem.
I bought my phone 18 months old and from the beginning it has shut down at about 20%. Tried the battery thing with charging, on/off, charing again etc, wiping battery stats etc but it doesn't seem to matter. So, I thought I'd just buy a new battery and be done with it.
The new battery arrived yesterday (actually, it's a used battery from customer returns but seller tells me it's been tested to be in mint condition). So this battery shows 3% when I first start up with it, "good, this seems to work" I think. But when at 75% the charger indicator (LED light) all of a sudden turns green and battery % jumps straight to 100%. I do the battery calibration trick with on/off charge and wipe battery stats. Stuck at 100% for some time as reported by others trying this "trick", have been using it all day and it shuts down at 25% even worse than the other battery...
The best voltages I've seen on this supposedly new battery is 4,144 and somewhere above 3.5 (nowhere near 3.2 and 4.2). What strikes me as odd is that I get very close to the same values with my old battery so I'm starting to think that maybee both battery are good but the phone reports way wrong values...is this possible?
Battery life with phone and data connection on, 1 gmail account but disabled backup feature (no GPS, BT etc) gives me -5% after 10 hours standby and I can use the phone for browising, light gaming for about 3 hours and 40 minutes before it dies (more or less constant usage at very low autobrightness levels and Turbo 3G enabled).
If someone has some insight into this it would be really helpful before I contact the eBay seller for this particular battery.
Regards, Olle
Same thing
My phone shuts down at 35% now... Is that a problem with the chipset or what? Only with Alex-V's calibrated kernels my phone shuts down at 0%, and sometimes it decalibrates too, but after calibration is Okay. I wonder if i need a new battery or my chipset has issues.
I'll try to change ROMs and battery and I change cable and battery keeps falling. And when to my brother drain 3% and to me drain 2x or more. What I need to do? Now I have Xeon ROM, before this I'll try fulmics ROM and stock ROM. And battery drain faster Always. And the problem with the charger started just a few days ago. And sometimes it works out, but it has reached the level that it charges 11% in half an hour(The Phone is Turn off) !!! Then I changed cable and it improved a bit, but still makes trouble
