Collection of Applications for WM6.1? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

I was curious is there is a place to find all the available applications for the hermes? I know I can find many of them in the Hacking and Development section but sometimes even when I know what Im looking for its hard to find the most current or stable version, is there anywhere or a thread or anything that has them all in one place or do I just have to root through all the threads and use google with a prayer and some luck? Without a new release of Schaps I have been playing with some lite versions of ROMs but they all seem to be missing something and I wish I had a list to browse through to find what I need.
I created this in the past as a collection of apps but its pretty outdated, especially with wm6.1 out.

unfortunately i think the best thing to do is to weed through the forum. i suggest you look in other device subforums too, some of them have a nice list of app collection, but unfortunately a lot of them are not updated regularly. Also look at rom from older devices, those with less storage and extended roms. sometimes the cooks include cabs as addons to their roms

misunderstanding
your link leads to a collection of programs that prepared for one of Schap's Lite ROMs which is a 6.0 ROM
well anyway, all programs designed for 6.0 work very well on 6.1

[Idea!]So many wm6 roms..Im getting confused...!

Pff..as we all noticed; there are so many wm6 (cooked) ROMs that we dont know what ROM is better than the other cooked rom, what version etc..If I look in de wm6 hermes section I get crazy of all the Roms I see.
Why not make a special section for (cooked) roms and who made it, what version. If you look at JJ, he makes so manny cooked roms, that you dont even know anymore what rom is newer..
So admins, please o please..a little bit of structure in the forums PLEASE!
The place you seek is called the Wiki...
Users can help by making sure the pages therein are kept up to date by editing them when new Roms are available.
Admins/Moderators are here to keep things running smoothly, they count on users to help with the housecleaning...
Just one small problem:
While it is good to know which file is what ROM with what attributes there is no way of telling which is best because this is a personal preference.
Some like lean clean ROM, others like one with many apps built in.
Some sacrifice memory to a bigger pool size to gain speed, other don't mind the speed but like to save RAM. Stable vs. functions and so on.

Which ROM should I go for?

I'm a little confused on which ROM to go for. Ideally I need it for the following purposes:
1. IT Management/Networking - For my employment
2. University Purposes
3. General purposes as I also work freelance.
I would also hopefully like it to be fully loaded with apps as I'm not going to install anything else and also fast and stable. I have a 1GB Card for storage if that helps.
If anyone can suggest something I would appreciate it.
try all roms if you hav time
im using t-mobile beta but duttys supa dupa rom is great
schps 3.60a great but just wait till 3.60b few isues now
TNT V2 is loaded. But so are some others. U need to read the COOKS rom threads / posts for information and see which one U want for yourself. Also, their are a number of rom POLL treads around.
hello friend! I already used lots of roms,, I like Shaps roms!

There will never be a "perfect" ROM; each chef has their own favourite base applications that they cook in to the ROM, but these don't always suit everyone.
You're not giving too much away, are you??? What device do you have, what country are you in, what provider do you use, etc.....
As for "purposes", they're pretty nondescript - IT Management/Networking is my job too, but there are countless add-on applications you might need over and above the standard issue WM6 apps (like RDP client - and there are several versions of that!!). University purposes; does that mean you need Word or OneNote for lectures, or what? Similarly, Freelance covers a multitude of sins......so you're a freelance what?? Hitman, photographer, journalist, the list goes on.......
Everyone you ask will recommend their own personal (current) favourite ROM, but their favourite may not suit you at all. As for my personal recommendation, it would go something like this....I use JJ's Black ROMs - currently Black Satin, but I have also heard good reports of Schaps 3.57x series of ROMs (the 3.60 series is still being developed and there are one or two oddities still being ironed out).
Honestly, your best bet would be to start with a "Lite" ROM (one without all the extra crap built in) and then add the things you want; networking utils, productivity tools, etc....oh, and the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT thing to do before you start on your ROM flashing expedition is to READ - the guide(s) written by MrVanx (http://www.mrvanx.org) and the XDA Wiki for the Hermes (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes) are essential reading material.
Everyone who has replied to your post has given good advice - it's up to you the route you take, but there are plenty of willing people ready to help if you get stuck along the way.
Enjoy!!!
Mark.
for the time being tnt v2 is the most fastest and stable one...
I had this dilemma, I eventually went for Schaps or whatever it's called as it seems the most popular all rounder. I'm loving it and I think I'll keep it on. I get extremely nervous flashing ROMs so once a year sounds good to me, can't afford to be indesicive and brick it.
would suggest any ROM with LITE versions then you can just look around for applications that you need and install them..
hi, there are so many roms out there, quite a few have lots of added apps, some useful some not, but if you using your phone just for specific things, get a 'LITE' rom and add what you need, search for the new supa duper lite rom, its got loads of space, very nippy... then just fill up what you need.
Actually Scrub that, Supa Dupa Lite Rom is the Dogs, But in all Fairness, You want a 'all rounder', a rom with a good selection of apps, very very nice and very stable, my friend, i think that ANY schaps roms will fit the bill
i dont know why but 3g and hsdpa data works with tmobil based roms, htc one wont work just gprs and edge. is there any tmobil patches to make it work?
And to throw another option out...there are several very neat kitchens out there, if you look around. Using one (or more) of them will enable you to whip up exactly what you need/want.
Of course, learning that process is somewhat involved.

ROM Fiesta? Confused!

Hi there!
Kudos to all of the ROM developers out there. I'm getting a hard time to get along with all those new ROMs: which one suits my needs? which one based on what original ROM version? Known issues, startup memory sizes, additional apps, reg tweaks, SPL needed/tested, etc.
So I have an idea of a pinned thread where registered ROM developers can detail some predefined params of their releases for an easy way of comparability for all of us, especially for beginners. Also official ROMs could be included for "milestones". And some trusted reviews should be included in links for each ROMs. And of course discussion should be placed in a separate thread.
Is this possible?
i know what you mean, im following the forum every day on the possibility i will get a diamond, and im even struggling to keep up to date with what is available.
I agree the selection is great, and im sure the different versions of roms available will really make the diamond an even greater smartphone.
What i would advise is a thread with a simple vote on what rom they use on their diamond. This would give a rough estimate of what rom a noobie should try which will give them the most advantages
there's already a vote thread in existence, and most (i think all) of the ROMs posted list which version they are based on, as well as any apps removed/added.. shouldn't be that hard to nail down
Right now there's not alot of difference between the roms. The basic differences to look for:
1) Have any tweaks been applied already? You can apply these yourself or edit them by reading the tweaks post in the diamond general forum. If you'd like a clean untweaked ROM - with useless stuff removed, then the diamond surface rom is probably for you.
2) What applications have been removed, and do you need them? So far the roms posted only removed useless programs, that wont work (windows update) or are superceeded (MSN by windows live). BUT keep an eye out here, you may see roms WITH and WITHOUT touchflo for example. TLR v2 rom may be for you, you can uninstall touchflo if you want to use another UI like SPB Mobile Shell.
3) Upgradability and current version. What rom is it based on? All roms list this. Also can you upgrade any aspects of the rom without having to hard reset and loose anything. EG TLR roms use app2date to update applications that may have been updated in a new rom. (This is probably why the TLR rom is the most popular)
4) Reputation. Cooked roms rely on the 'cooker' making some decisions on your behalf. What tweaks to use and what not to. What values to set for the tweaks (eg fatfs). If you've had a device before and liked how a certain person works then right now there's so little difference in the cooked roms, you should stick with their work! Eg Elite rom, alot of people are using this rom.
Hope that helps. Me? I'm using TLR v2 with SPB Mobile shell.
Your asking chefs to try all kinds of different apps for compatibility... this is a lot to ask. What you need to do is read the threads, listen to what other users have to say, this will be your best feedback for bugs, compatibility, stability, etc...
Most importantly, just READ instead of polluting with useless threads in the development section

My experience with all those ROMs and idea about an ideal ROM

Hi,
Last few days I've been trying a bunch of unofficial ROMs.
Here are my experience and ideas about this whole situation.
* There should be a "TIDY" ROM thread, or a wiki page, (including comparison if possible). I'm willing to start the initial work, if needed.
* More sticky threads needed, so that each team/individual can post in those threads, and that only.
What I liked best was the Diamond Project and then Dutty's "hybrid" ROM. But neither was error-free. Then I've been through totally messed-up ROMs, hardly reverted back, to the stock ROM and tweaked myself.
IMO, Those ROMs should be more "generic", so that more people can use em, and they should be avoiding "geeky, cute" graphics (salut, Diamond Project's beating-hearts ). ROMs should also be looking more "professional" (see 1.93.456.2's boot screen).
Anyway, keeping on MY ideal ROM idea, it would be great if it had these:
* OTA updates (AppToDate) looks very promising
* No personal applications (tomtom, skype, other BS games) should be included.
* Opera 9.5 b1 is out, AND AWESOME should be included.
* No TouchFlo3d Themes, PLEASE
* Should be tweaked well. (And applying whole set in the tweaks thread is not "tweaking well")
* All unnecessary stuff should be removed (incl. bunch of wavs, images)
* And yea, should be based on the latest official ROM :b
Anyway, this is my two-cents
Nice thread, thanks maybe it can help cookers to bring up what really the needs are.
So I'd like a modulable ROM, as the GM360D Lite edition. I'd like the latest core and as an Elive distro ("beta" docet ) all the last-minute nightly builds of each component.
I would be useful for developers as well as for those want check the last miiles of any package.
Anyway I guess Opera is a must have, as well as a registry editor, a PDF viewer and player (VLC or CorePlayer).
I use also SyncMate for Mac (I have a MBP) and it could be insert as default (driver is less than 40kb).
I'd like also a touchable Calendar (XDA docet ) and a VNC Client.
I can't forget the wonderful display of my Diamond then I want a stunning GUI.
Makes sense, there is a wiki page already and anyone can edit it I guess ..
Personally I would prefer Skype and Tomtom to Opera, it is not really usable on such compact device regardless of what version it is ..
Good idea....imo, it should be a thread with all the "slang" for ROM flashing....for some newcomers (like me) words like SPL or RUU sound scary...
You are the first, (wanted to write the similar
Absolutely agree!
By me, I prefer "lite" line. More choice for user's fantasy
Impossible to make "universal" image.
Duttys_Diamond_HybridV1 my choice at last moment. The fastest & stable enough. Very smart programs list. But... not ideal, of course.
May the best way - this scheme, aka "modular":
"kernel" - the minimalist image;
"modules" - list of optimized programs for this image.
"tweaks" - .regs for image or program.
So....
i like CLEAN ROMS without any Additional programms (like youtube, googlemaps...) and NO TF3D , and provide all them in CAB files so u can instal any 1 u like manually or per UC!
The thing is, every single person wants something different from the roms, thats why theres so many different cooks who make different roms and even different versions of those roms but you can never satisfy everyone.
I do a lot of work on Vista Sidebar gadgets, i start off making a gadget for myself, then i decide to release it purely so the wider community can enjoy it too. Then I get a few people who want an odd feature or two so I put it in because it'll make them happy. Then by the time everything is said and done people are moaning at you because you put in too many things and it's bloated and doesn't do EXACTLY what every user wants. I imagine this is a similar scenario to what the cooks here go through.
I don't really have a point, but I guess I'm trying to say is be grateful of the Devs, it's not easy trying to please everyone and what you want isn't necessarily what others will want.
I do agree with the idea of basic and lite roms though, they allow the devs to make optimised roms and the user to install whatever apps they want.

Well, actually what I meant was that applications like Skype, Tomtom, or other installable applications should not be included
Btw, I wasn't expecting this much "good" replies.
I hope cooks -especially Diamond Project members- will hear those comments.
I completely agree. It's like building your own computer and catering it to however you see fits vs. buying a pre-built computers with a bunch of unneeded software taking up spaces (im not discrediting cookers with their own unique ROM! They did a fantastic job!). If someone could baked a fast, barebone ROM and give users the choices of installing their own programs, that'll be fantastic.
i think all of us agree to have a stable ROM with biggest Storage and RAM, and that can be reached only with CLEAN ROMs.
I have 1 question, is it Possible to have a ROM Package which ask u before Flashing starts, which Softwares do u want to include? an Interface with a list of programms to un/check? just a thought!

Clean 6.5 Manila 2.5 rom ???

Guys i'm looking for clean wwe rom with wm 6.5 and manilla 3d 2.5 .I'm looking for some few day already and I couldn't find one. Please recomend me one . tnks in advance
me too, .
I am also looking for a ROM that isn't loaded with unwanted applications. I have tried four so far and each one has an app that I can't update or remove. I just want to be able to pick what I want and just what I want. So far my searches have come up with nothing, are there any roms either out there or in development that are just the OS and nothing else?
I agree. What I seek is a straight and clean stable build of 6.5 with no frills or HTC customizations.
so , i see i'm the only one who wants to use clean roms. Is there somebody who can cook already cooked rom but without odd programs. Just the programs which are included in original HTC roms and may some with help the devices to work proper with new manila 2.5.
6.5
Hello,
As far as I can see, there are some modern, clean 6.5 builds without HTC customizations, see the forums.
What we are looking for here is a 6.5 build with Manila 2.5 and its associated HTC apps just if It was a recently bought new terminal.
If the HTC pictures seen those days are real, I think they have RTMed with 6.5 builds and not with 6.5.1 buils (see start at the top and thick bottom bar). I think this is more convenient for Manila...
Regards
I think if its possible to make something like categories witch separates different rom types. For example clean, with one kind of nesasary programs and another kind witch are custom made like where are added different themes and additional programs. May be somebody can add a new post where they are discribed and add links to the post where the roms are added. So , if somebody wonders witch one to choose will have them in one place and will not be forced to search several pages.
Many clean ROMs have "CLEAN" in their thread name. So... does it ring any bells? If you search the "Diamond ROM developement" for, um, lets say the phrase "CLEAN 6.5", and check the "search only in title" (or sth like that), it should be enough to find clean 6.5 roms.
As for the manila 2.5, as i know, it's still in developement (which you should know, if you bothered to dedicate 30 minutes to reading the only two threads including "manila 2.5" in their title), and there are ONLY TWO (2) roms with manila 2.5. One is 6.1(Sun.Y) and the other is 6.5(Sun.X).
Oh...and yes..there is a search function on this forum Did i point that out already?
EDIT: Oh...and there is Eugenia rom, which actualy uses work from the Sun project...as far as i know. Correct me if needed..
I'm sure not only me and the others used search and read the forum for nice rom . But the most roms even clean ones have program witch are not useful for some of us and use additional memory. Otherwise I totally agree with you - there is still i think a lot of time until we see proper manilla 2.5 working on our diamonds. cheers
Well. My advice on searching roms is: Look only in the first two or three pages, beacuse those roms are actively updated. When it says [FINAL] in the rom topic title, that's even better. If you are looking for a stable and fast rom, try to avoid BETA releases (altough, some work pretty well). As for ram consumption... 6.1 roms are (from my experience) more ram friendly than 6.5 rom. BUT a 6.5 rom with titanium enabled is more ram efficient than a 6.1 rom with Manila 2.1. Also, big ram consumera are non-WM default dialers. They can take up to 10-12mb of RAM. You can disable them, and enable the default WM dialer (search the threads...it can be done via CAB or AdvancedConfig), but that brings problems while using manila 2.1 (and 2.5 i think). Don't worry too much about "unuseful" preinstalled software on [CLEAN] roms, beacuse well they can take up some space on your phone memory, but usualy don't eat RAM, unless you run them.
I actually don't use CLEAN roms, beacuse i find some medium loaded roms more usefull (see my signature). With my rom i have no problem running IGO8 or listening to mp3(s2p) while surfing the net with opera. And that is while i get around 74% used RAM after a day of usage (62-65% on clean boot). RAM is meant to be used, and don't get frightened if it sometimes jumps up to 80% (a friend of mine has 11mb of free ram on an Ipgone 3g, and that thing still flies...beacuse it actuall uses ram (efficiently!!)).
My 2 cents. I hope it helps you find the right rom.
EDIT: oh, and CleanRam is a pretty useful app... (on level 2 or 3)
thanks a lot for this full answer mate I hope it will be useful not only for me, but for everyone who needs help about looking for new rom.
I've settled for BsB for the moment (the 6.5 variant).
