I often browse xda-developers forum on my smartphone using Internet Explorer. It's ok but I cannot use keys 2 (for page up), 4 (page left), 6 (page right)... Only 8 (for page down) works fine. The others bring me to the top of the page and redirect me to one of the menu items (User CP, FAQ...).
Any chance this will be changed?

Hi there,
It was my understanding that if I use IE on my Touch HD then it will be detected as a mobile by some websites and therefore load a different version of the website. I was also of the understanding that this wasn't the case when using Opera and infact the sites would just see a normal browser and load the "real" page.
My understandings above may or may not be correct however now I've noticed that Opera is sometimes being diverted to mobile sites where it wasn't before. I think I may have upgraded the stock version in the past and I'm currently running build 15316.
Is there anything I can do to force "real" pages?
Thanks for any help/info
Justin
The solution!
Hi,
Just follow the next step.. open opera->click on left down corner -> settings -> advanced -> at the bottom select "indentify as"-> from the drop down menu select "Desktop computer"-> restart Opera
That's all !

In Opera 9.5 build 15613 i believe it is like that:
click on RIGHT down corner -> settings -> display -> verify that "mobile view" is NOT checked-> restart Opera
Thanks for the responses.
I don't have the menu options as mentioned in the first post. Maybe a different build?
And I do indeed have mobile view unchecked from the second post..

I too am interested to know the answer to this... For the most part it brings up full web pages, but BBC and Google sites always seem to bring up their mobile content.
Does someone have an answer? As stated above mobile view is unchecked in the options...

It probably depends on the website.
Some websites will have "sniffer" code built in that will query your device and get information out (eg OS/browser version/browser name etc etc). Nothing sinister - they're just trying to either collate user stats (eg to prove FireFox is gaining in popularity), or tweaking the look of the file slightly to improve the user experience / make sure the site renders correctly in different browsers.
I'm a web developer myself and use simple versions of these scripts to tweak CSS styling because different browsers follow the standards set in different ways.
So even if you've set your Opera to identify itself as "not" mobile version, the website you're looking at might well be looking at the actual OS (or something else entirely) to define how it presents the site to you.
Incidentally if you want to see the "User-Agent" information that a simple php browser sniffer gathers - see this link: It's basically the same sort of code that some people put links to in their forum signature bar.

Thanks Riceburner, this makes a bit more sense now and understand all of what you are saying...

Has anyone ever considered adding some re-directs to the xda domain, to allow quick access to whichever forum is relevant to the user?
As a Nexus user, I have to wait several seconds (even on 8mb connection) for the entire entrance page to download and render (using xda's bandwidth), and then rapidly scroll to a point about 4/5 of the way down.
Bookmarks are all very well, but most people use more than one computer on a regular basis...

A new 'jump to' option has just been implemented allowing users to be able to jump to specific device forums. Located under menu buttons at top of page

Free & useful apps for Windows 8.
There are a couple of small apps for W8 on a few sites around the Web. I stress they are not my work, any credit needs to go to their authors.
But you can hit the thanks button for putting them all in one place for you!
.zips attached at the bottom
1. Metro UI Tweaker
Add apps to Start Menu, Power Settings
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/metro-ui-tweaker-windows-8-released
2. Start Menu Tweaker
Switch between 7 and Metro start menus.

3. Blue Poison
Themes, downloads & activation, including a new Office build (development).
http://www.windows8italia.com/2011/05/windows-8-bluepoison-official-download.html
If downloading and activating the Office development, through Blue Poison, it may be password protected.
PWord = windows8italia
.zips at the bottom.
They all work well.
Oh, and hit the thanks button, Ta.
Problems / Praise?
Anyone else know of available tools that can go on here?
Post below.
Very useful
Thank you man
i can't seem to make the office 15 installer in windows 8...
There is a 32/64 bit requirement for the Office, not sure which though. Head on to windows8italia for further info.
Whenever I download it directly to my tablet it takes three hours to get to 70% and then finishes soon after that.
Then when I try to open it, it says something is corrupted.
Has anyone else had a similar issue?
No, there's a Problem with Office 15 on Windows 8 only - on my Windows 7 (32 + 64 Bit) it's working.
thank you

Please, update the link for BluePoison --> http://www.windowsblogitalia.com/2011/05/windows-8-bluepoison-official-download.html
Guys, I cannot seem to properly RUN Blue Poison, It actually Runs, and identifies my Win8 CP version correctly, but THEMES Tab, has all themes washed out, and nothing happens when I click any of them.
Do I have to enable the HACKS first?

Does XDA support Chromium-based browsers such as Vivaldi? For the last few weeks, every time I attempt to access XDA with Vivaldi, I keep getting redirected to the mobile page.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Vivaldi from vivaldi.com.
2. Start Vivaldi by clicking on its desktop icon.
3. Navigate to http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6 (or any other forum on XDA.)
Expected result: The information on the left side of the page regarding the features of the Nexus 6 as well as the XDA Portal threads beneath it should display. When reading a thread, avatars and signature graphics should be displayed. In addition, it should be possible to view who has thanked a given post.
Actual result: The information on the left side of the page is replaced by a large black space. When reading a thread, avatars and signature graphics do not appear, and it is not possible to see who thanked a given post.
Currently I have a user agent switcher in place so that Vivaldi functions correctly on the site. But if it is possible to fix things, please do so.
Using the same browser, have the same problem. XDA is displayed as mobile website until I change the user agent.
xda runs fine on vivaldi on my computer. i don't see any problems.
XDA uses the https://github.com/serbanghita/Mobile-Detect library for detecting mobile browsers. If you are having an issue with your browser being detected as mobile, you should request that your user agent be added so that it can be properly recognized as a desktop browser.
Can confirm this issue happening on the latest stable and developer releases of Vivaldi (1.3+ 64-bit). Oddly enough, this doesn't happen on any other Chromium-based browser I've tried. Will send a request to the developer of that PHP class.
EDIT: Thanks for mentioning the User-Agent switcher extension. Fixes the problem entirely!

In this Ramadan, I started to develop update for this app. I worked on it throughout Ramadan but later my college started, so I didn't got time to work in it.
It was raining heavily in Mumbai at the start of this week, so on Monday, I got a day off from my college and I thought to resume this app's development. From Monday till today ( Saturday ) I worked for few hours each day in this app and got it completed, hope you'll like it.
This app is built from scratch again, so if you have installed the previous version, Installing the new one will not affect the previous one.
CHANGELOG:
1. Open an keep multiple books in the app. [MAJOR]
2. Faster startup.
3. bug fixes.
4. Open pdf files from anywhere directly in this app.
What does this app do?
This app is intended to make better reading experience in Windows 10 devices. It automatically saves the books you have opened, the book you are reading, the page you are reading, and you can also save the line that you are reading at. The next time you open the app, all the opened books will be loaded, the book which you were reading will be opened and the page you were reading will be dispayed along with a small element on the right edge of the screen, reminding you the line you were reading.
How to use?
Opening a book:
Method 1. swipe up and click on "+" button
Method 2. swipe down and click on "open" button
Method 3. Locate to pdf file from file explorer or any where and click on it.
Closing a book:
Click on the "x" button located at the right edge of every tab of every book opened.
Navigate through pages:
Swipe left to go to next page, and right to go to previous page.
Navigate through books:
Swipe up and slide the tab bar located at the top of the menu appeared, click on your desired book.
Changing height, width and rendering quality of page:
Swipe up, and change the range slider of each parameters as per you requirement.
Set reminder of line:

Change background image of app:
Swipe down and click on the "Change wallpaper" button, chose your desired image.

Previous post:

- swipe up or press up arrow key (in pc), to open a menu with information and options for the current page.
